My old computer crashed, so I bought a new computer. How can I get my IPOD music in the new computer
my old computer crashed. I bought a new one. I installed Itunes, with a new account. I cannot get my music from my ipod touch to the new computer. It is all music I had downloaded from cd's I have purchased through the years. Every time I try to authorize the new computer, it wants a credit card number for the ITunes store. I don't want to buy more music now, I just want to be able to get my songs in my new computer. This is driving me crazy. any help, since the phone support is not available when I am. Thanks.
The music sync is one wa - copmputer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer. Use your backup to put everything back

Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.

Your media is only where you put it.
If you have failed to maintain a backup, then you may seriously be out of luck.
Apps can be redownloaded as many times as you like.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, then it is possible to redownloaded music via iCloud from the purchase history in iTunes.
Outside the US, you can try contacting iTunes customer support. Just keep in mind they are under no obligation to assist simply because the customer failed to maintain backups of the customers purchased content. -

About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:

You have to sign out completely and then sign back in.
On a Mac, System Preferences>iCloud and click 'Sign out'.
On an iOS device, Settings>iCloud and click 'Delete account' (this will not delete the account from the server).
Your synced data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in (give it time). -

If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay. -

Since we downloaded the latest version of iOS on our iPad and iPhone, and synchronized our music collection in the Cloud, we can no longer see on our iPad and iPhone the music from our CD's that we have on our home computer's iTunes library. We can only see music in the iPhone and iPad library that have been purchased on iTunes. How can we get all our music from our computer's iTunes librbary visible on the iPhone and iPad? My iTunes downloads were made using my old gmail address. I had to quit using this address as it got hacked. How do I get my iTunes downloads into my new iTunes account that was created with a new gmail address? In my old iTunes account (with the old gmail address, I can't 'update' my email address or even 'add an alternate address' as I had already created this gmail account and inputting the new address into iTunes gives me the 'pop-up' that 'this account is already in use.' Good luck. It took me weeks to fix this when I had to do it. Your old ID branches out in lots of places. You may have to delete app and get them again, at least that is what Apple told me. Plus, all of your settings on your iPad that required any ID, will have to be changed. My old ID kept showing up in different places for weeks. Changing it on Apple.com is just the beginning.

I am trying to install an app in my iphone. When I click Install, my old gmail account comes up for verification and it asks for my password etc. I dont use this account anymore and have a new gmail account that is associated with my apple account. How can I get the new gmail to default when I am trying to install apps?
Did you create a NEW Apple ID or did you change the email address for your OLD Apple ID? This will affect how you update apps in the future.
Anyway, go to Settings/iTunes&App Stores, log out, then log in with the new ID. -
Sorry the question was in the title. A new laptop for christmas...I thought by downloading itunes to it when I plugged in the ipod it would just download the music to het itunes library as they are on the same apple id. does not seem to be the case....is there an easy way or not? It is a compaq CQ58 and has all the itunes up to date.
Connect the new iPod to the computer she used to sync with the old iPod. The restore from backup. The apps and music have to be in the iTunes library to be restored to the iPod.

If you mean iTunes libraries or computer user accounts, just create one. To make a new iTunes library on Windows, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose Create Library.
