My old mac crashed and new hard drive has new Pages on it but I cannot open any documents.  Says to save on 09, I had 08 but it crashed when the computer crashed.  Now what?

Open with new Pages and it says my documents are too old, must be opened and saved in 09, but I don't have 09, just fragments of 08 from my crashed hard drive.  What do I do now?

Do you still have your installer DVD?
Reinstall iWork '08 and upgrade it to v3.03:
http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewtopic.php?t=432&mforum=iworktips ntrick
Then open your documents and Export them to Word .doc/x to open in Pages 5.2.
You can also ask Apple to supply you with iWork '09 so you can access your work.
If that is unsuccessful, since Pages 5.2 is a severe downgrade, missing 110 features, get the iWork '09 boxed set from Amazon for $19.99.

There are a few things to try.
First, if this file came to you vial email attachment, it could have been corrupted. Ask her to zip the file and send it again. That sometimes helps.
I suppose there's a chance that the file is already zipped, so see if that's the case and unzip it if so.
If the file name doesn't end with .indd, add it and see if that helps.
If you are double-clicking, try File>Open from within InDesign.
Last (and I know this sounds like a joke, but I've seen it many times), sometimes people attach a Mac Alias or Windows Shortcut instead of the actual file. What is the file size? If it's really small, that might be the reason.
Also, no offense intended if some of this sounds like stuff you have already tried. I don't know what you know, so I'm just spit-balling.

I cannot open any documents in InDesign after downloading Yosemite.  Says I need Java 6.  I have Java 8 and still doesn't open.

It may seem strange indeed, but yes, you have to ALSO install the older version 6 for Apple's system; other applications will use your Java (which I believe is now even 9) and others will use that version 6.

  • After hard drive crash, Pages app brought over, and upgrade to snow leopard installed, Pages would not launch.  Re-downloaded the 3.0.3 update and Pages launched, but will not open any documents or start new document.

After a hard-drive crash, Pages application was brought over from the old hard drive, and upgraded to snow leopard.  However, Pages would not launch.  I do not have the disks and the computer was given to me by my son with iWork 08 installed, so I do not have the ability to re-install using Purchases.  I re-installed the update 3.0.3, which I already had, but thought it worth a try.  That enabled Pages to launch, but it will not open a new or old document.  I can see in preview the document, but it will not open.  Any suggestions besides repurchasing Pages.  I've just put out a lot of money for a new hard drive and retrieval of apps and docs from the old hard drive and would like not to have to put more money in it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

You can not simply drag over Pages, particularly if it was perhaps damaged in a crash.
As it was only Pages '08 it may be time to upgrade to Pages '09 from the App Store. It is not that expensive and will allow you to install it on any Mac sharing the same Apple I.D. and protect you from a repeat of this problem.
There are free alternatives to Pages if you are hard strapped, it depends on what you are using Pages for, it is not the only option by far.

  • Windows 7 home premium crashed and my hard drive is now unreadable!!

Right so i installed windows 7 home premium  in A.H.C.I mode because i was told that mode was better on my acer aspire 5552 laptop after my previous hard drive crashed and i had to reinstall in safe mode eventually i got a new hard drive because the
old one still didnt perform better in AHCI and the new hardrive ran fine for a couple hours. while installing some auto updates it crashed and i tried rebooting but it said no operating system was found or somthing of that nature. i figured i must have just
installed something weird or maybe just a happen chance so i tried re-installing and my laptop said there was a hard drive there but it was labeled 0 unallocated and 0.0mb. I couldnt delete it and i couldnt reformat it to re-install windows. i looked around
and was told i could go into cmos and clean the drive or delete whatever was on it there. it said there was a disk 0 there with 512 b of somthing and it was online but no such luck even after cleaning the drive in cmos the problem showed up the same. deleting
didnt work either the laptop said that function cannot be completed. i then looked into the bios and saw that the hard drive wasnt even there anymore. i tried a third hard drive but this time i switched it back to I.D.E and its been 3 days without a problem
so im assuming the AHCI mode froze my hard drive. now my question is how do i get my other hard drives back and unlocked because i know they still work i can hear them spining and the computer can kind of read them in the cmos

You need to take your computer to a computer repair shop as there are no capabilities in Windows to repair hardware problems and since your computer will not boot, you have a hardware problem.  You new disk may have crashed.  Configuring your hardware
is not in the scope of this forum.  Hardware configuration is the responsibility of the manufacturer, not these forums.
Acer technical support is the ones qualified to advise you about your system.

  • Can I use my old MAC MINI as a hard drive, or do I need to transfer all the data to a new Mini?

I would like to get the new MAC MINI, but I was wondering whether I could somehow just keep my old mac mini as a storage drive and continue to use its DVD drive since the new mini doesn't have one.  Has anyone out there done this?  If not, what is the best way to transfer data from one mini to another?

  • HT201250 I just had a new hard drive installed in my iMac.  Migration manager cannot see my external Time Machine hard drive to restore the files and applications.  The drive is operational in Finder

I cannot seem to migrate the full time machine backup from an external hard drive back to the new hard drive.  Finder sees the drive and files.  When I use Migration managers, it only sees the computer hard drive after I select the time machine option to restore the files.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
With what OS X version did you make the backup? If it was the same as the version you are using now, you don't have to use Migration Assistant to restore the backup. Instead, there's a safer and better method, but you will lose all the changes you have made since the last time you made the backup.
Just hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery. Then, select the option to restore a Time Machine backup, and follow its steps. Also, you will be able to select the backup you want to restore

  • Why doesn't my new hard drive come with Pages and Numbers?

I just got a new hard drive installed in my Mac Book Pro.  It doesn't have Numbers and Pages as an included app.  How do I get those w/o having to pay the $40 app fee?

If you previously downloaded them from the Mac App Store or associated them with an Apple ID, log into the Mac App Store with that Apple ID and download them from the Purchases tab.
If you got them on an iWork DVD or with a Mac that originally shipped with 10.6.8 or earlier, install them from DVD.
If you got them with a Mac that originally shipped with 10.7 or newer but didn’t associate them with an Apple ID, click here.

  • How can I find out which mac format my external hard drive has

I have a PD LaCie drive.  I had formatted it about a month ago, but now reading several posts, it appears that the best format is mac OS extended (journaled).  I am not sure if that is the one that I had originally chosen.  How do I find out which format my external hard drive has?
    Thanks.

Select it on the desktop or in the Finder's sidebar and choose Get Info from the File menu. If it doesn't show up in either location, check the settings in the General and Sidebar tabs of the Finder's preferences.

  • New hard drive, or new laptop?

I've got a 2006 MacBook. It's slowing down, humming, has some panoc kernals. Is it better to get a new MacBook Pro, or just get a new, bigger SSD?

nvnv0  - Lion may be OK for some people.   You can't stop everyone from running Lion.  I've just updated to 10.7.3 and the bugs I had with 10.7.1 are gone.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
But I agree, only get a new computer if you are ready for Lion, as you may not be able to downgrade. The bottom of the following tip tells you if you'll be able to at minimum run Snow Leopard.   If not, and you aren't ready for Lion, try to get an older computer:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
    See my* http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
If you are forced to decide on a newer computer.   A new hard drive for a 2006 machine is fine, so long as the hard drive is rated for 1.5 Gbps data path.  If it isn't it may not work with your machine.

  • I had Microsoft Office installed in my Macbook Air by one of the technicians in the store, it was working fine the first week but after that it started popping a notice saying it cannot verify my suscription online and now I cannot open any documents?

I just bought a Macbook Air almost a month now. When I bought it, the technician installed Microsoft Office 365 as they were having a promotion at the time. However after a week of using it, it started popping up a notice saying that it cannot verify Microsoft Office. I still managed to open the word document but as of today, it will not open. I took it to the Mac store last week, and they said that there was nothing wrong with it and they could not figure out any problem.
I don't know what to do and I am in desperate need of help. I cannot open my documents at all and I have my research paper that I need to finish writing. This is very disappointing and extremely stressful for me. If anyone has any suggestions of how this can be fixed, please let me know. I do not want to lose my hard work =(

Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription - based service. You have to pay for it... and keep paying for it... and paying for it... as in 365 days a year... or lose your hard work.
Office Home Premium is a mere $10 a month, but a convenient annual subscription is only $100 a year. This is a substantial discount to Microsoft's Office 365 business products ($150 / employee / year).
Such a deal! Are you not absolutely thrilled?
Here are some slightly more reasonable alternatives, all of which are compatible with their Office equivalents:
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free if you can find it)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
    Numbers ($19.99)
    Pages ($19.99)

  • A year ago I had a new hard drive put in my Macbook pro.  I cannot log onto the computer to change settings as I do not know the password.  The tech said he left it blank, but I have not idea what it is now.  Can this be fixed.  I have been they only owne

I had the replacement hard drive installed and the tech said he left the password open.  My old password does not work.  I can use the computer, but I cannot log in to add new wireless devices or to download programs.  I recently tried to download Adobe Flash player, and I needed to log in but could not. I can downloan security updated from Apple and the machine will shut down and restart, without me needing to enter a password.  I bought this computer from Apple directly in 2007.  Is this a case where I need to send it to them since they can verify that I own it, or can I get help with this online or from a local computer tech?

If you use Lion, boot into your recovery pressing Command and R buttons, press "Utilities" menu, open Terminal and write:
    resetpassword
If you have Snow Leopard, boot into your install DVD pressing C button, click "Utilities" and press Password Reset

  • Accessing old Iphoto library on external hard drive in new iphoto

We recently bought a new macbook pro with iphoto 9.5.1.  Previously, we had a 2008 macbook and had transferred the very large iphoto library onto our Toshiba external harddrive.  After downloading Tuxera NTFS to be able to use the external hard drive on this computer, I tried to open the iphoto library.  It said that the photos needed to be upgraded to be usable on the new iphoto.  So I downloaded the iphoto upgrader.  When running it, it says the iphoto library selected (the one on the external hard drive) does not need to be updated.  When I try to open it through iphoto, it says that it needs to update and starts the process.  Within a minute is says that some of the permissions on the library are incorrect and asks if I want to repair it.  After clicking to repair it, iphoto stops responding and we have to force quit to stop it.  Any ideas on how to access the library?  I have over 20,000 pictures in that library and would like to be able to access them on a regular basis.

fter downloading Tuxera NTFS to be able to use the external hard drive on this computer,
An iPhoto library MUST be on a volume formatted OS X Extended (journaled) in order to be used from there.  So your NTFS server won't work.  You'll need another external hard drive formatted as I described:
There is just no way to make it work on your drive as it is configured now.

  • New MBP - register and then put in new hard drive or new hd first?

    Hello,
I have a new/refurbish 15" Macbook Pro on the way.
I have ordered a Hitachi 7200rpm drive along with more memory from a 3rd party vender.
My question is, what is the order of operations swapping the different HD in a new notebook?
Keep in mind that this is a new machine with no data on it yet so there is no fear of losing anything.
    Is it;
    - Don't start the machine
    - Swap hard drives
    - Start off the install disk
    - Install the OS
    - Register the machine?
*If so, how do you start off the disk in this case? Can you insert a disk without the machine going? How will the disk get in the machine to start off of?
    Or is it:
    - Start the machine
    - Register the machine with Apple
    - Insert the disk
    - Shut down
    - Swap hard drives
    - Restart off the disk
    - Install the OS

It doesn't matter when you register.
Ultimately it comes down to preference. I got my MBP then ordered the hard drive - I set it up and started using it with the existing drive, then used carbon copy cloner to move everything over to the new drive.
I have an external FW hard drive that I did a generic Mac OSX install to so I have a bootable drive - I cloned my internal drive to the external drive, then took out the internal drive, stuck the new larger drive in, booted off my external FW drive and then restored to the new larger internal drive. I did each copy overnight so the time involved really didn't bother me
