My old Pd

New PDF viewer doesn't work. The udate to the latest PDF viewer is terrible. PDF's now take significantly longer to preview, many times I won't be able to preview the entire document (only 1 out of 3 pages will load), I can't print them or it takes significantly more time to print them, I don't have access to the same tools that I used to (rotate page, save, etc.). I use this on a daily basis but I can't figure out how to get pack to my previous settings. I disable the PDF viewer add-on but that didn't work. Help - I like firefox but I may have to switch to Explorer.

I am on Mac up to Firefox 18 I used this plug-on: http://code.google.com/p/firefox-mac-pdf/
I had to change though the maximum version number inside the xpi file so that it is still usable, but I have found this plugin way superior to anything else. Since Firefox 18 I cannot use it -- even though I set the max version number above 100:) When I try to install my tweaked version, Firefox just reports that it is not compatible without any further information.
Unfortunately, the new built-in viewer is not a good solution for me as it has all kind of font rendering problems, especially when it comes to printing (I am mostly reading and printing math).
Any help would be much appreciated or, sadly, I will need to forget about using Firefox. I wasted quite a few sheets of papers printing gibberish as I keep forgetting that printing just does not work from the browser.
Thanks,
Csaba

  • Have Old Hard drive and want to move old data onto new hard drive in imac.

I am trying to get my files off of an old hard drive. I have it hooked up through a sata drive. I am able to access all the programs but for whatever reason I am unable to access any of the files, i.e- 1,00's of pictures, videos, music, and documents. Is there something else I need to do in order to get the files, or is it possible that all the programs could still be on it but the files are just missing? In the current Sata it only has two plugs but on my hard drive it looks like there is another place to plug something in.

    Hello again Shadow,
The way I do this is to:
    1) Install your new hard drive into your iBook
    2) Get your iBook reassembeled
    3) Place your old hard drive in your firewire enclosure
    4) Insert your install DVD into your iBook and restart with the C key held down. When the installer launches, select your language in the first pane, click 'continue' and in the upper dropdown menu in the next page select Utilities > Disk Utility. After DU is open, select your hard drive from the list of volumes on the left (the very top one), and then click the 'Partition' tab to the right. Then select 1 partition (normal) and make sure that you have 'Mac OS Extended (journled)' selected in the lower section. Then click 'partition'
5)Quit disc utility, which brings you back to the installer. continue with your installation of OS X. In one of the first steps you will see a button on the lower left which says 'options' click on that and make sure that the option 'Installs OS X for the first time' is selected. It will normally be selected by default with a new drive.
    6) After the installation, the Migration Assistant will ask if you would like to transfer your information from another mac. click yes then follow the instructions. but instead of using another mac, connect a firewire cable from your enclosure with your old hard drive installed. The installer will think that this is another mac and will transfer all of your account information and user files (everything!)from your old drive to your iBook's new drive. Just diconnect when it says to and complete the installation sequence.
    You're done!
Check back again if anything is unclear.

  • How do I install all my old programs and data from an old system folder after I have reinstalled the same OSX system after a crash?

The system is OSX10.5.8 Leopard on a 2009 imac. A new system was installed from the installation disks and the original system saved to a folder.
I need to use my Adobe programs, rescue my email, i-tunes and iphoto data.  The disk utility indicates that my Time Machine back-up disk is damaged and I don't want to take a risk of having Time Machine erase my hard drive and try to reinstall the exact system existing at the time of the crash.  There was over 650 gb of stored files that I was copying and removing from the drive at the time it crashed. The total size of the original system file is still about 650 Gb.
I would prefer to go back in Time Machine and only rescue the programs as most of the files have been copied to external hard drives, but I can't access the back-up hard drive from the new version of the Time Machine.  Or by I don't want the Time Mchine to start copying the new operating system which would include all the data in the old system file. Time Machine was working fine at the time of the crash.

No, the disk was backed up with time machine a few hours prior to the crash.  I was unable to open the computer when I tried to restart it- got a grey screen with the spinning disk- after a few minutes the screen would go black and would reboot continuously, but not load any images or programs. I started the computer from the 10.5.4 installation disks and checked both the time machine external hard drive and the Imac internal drive with the disk utilities. Both showed as damaged --the internal drive and permissions were repaired, but the external drive (time machine back-up)  was damaged and not repairable by disk utilities. I don't believe that the external drive for Time Machine was connected to the computer at the time of the crash as I was copying files to a different hard drive drive. And I was not having any problems with the TM back-up drive prior to the crash.
I accessed the Imac internal disk by firewire (as a target disk) and copied as many data files as I had room for on my external hard drives available.  And I deleted quite a few files from the imac internal drive (mostly just jpegs, duplicate tifs, etc--nothing that was used by i-photos, i-tunes or the Mail program).
Then I installed a new OSX10.5.4 system from the installation disk and the old system was moved to a folder on the hard drive.  I previousy had had the option to reinstall the complete system from Time Machine when I connected that drive and booted with the installation disks with the C key depressed.  But it didn't seem like a good option because I was unsure of the condition of that external disk and whether it would be able to reinstall my data correctly, once it had erased my internal hard drive.
I'm considering buying some new external hard drives and backing up the present system to time Machine (so I'll still have my old data in the old system folder).  And then I would try using the old Time Machine back-up to try to reinstall the sytem previous to the crash.  That back-up would reinstall about 700gb of data and operating software and programs which sounds like a lengthy back-up.  Since I have never used Time Machine to do a full reinstallation (I've only used it for individual files), I'm reluctant to do anything rash.
I'm a professional designer (with a deadline) but I can still use my Illustrator and Photoshop by opening them from the old system folder and saving the files to an external drive.  So it's not neccessary to do anything hasty except to delete some of the excess art and document files that were causing the computer to run slowly and the  Adobe programs to crash when I tried to save my work. I have quite a few books on tape in the i-tumes folder which is probably talking up tons of space but I don't where the i-tunes files live.
    Thanks for any help. Peggy

  • When I sync my iPod to my MacBook through iTunes new events do not show up and old events are not deleted. I am using Snow Leopard  and not iSync.

I am using Snow Leopard on a MacBook. I have an iPod touch 3G. I do not use iSync it Mobile Me. When I sync my iPod through iTunes new events on my iPod do not show up on my Mac and old events do not delete. I have read help instructions that include deleting the data on the iPod. The iPod has the correct data and the Mac does not so I have not followed those instructions. I need help as the only reason I bought the Mac was to be able to sync, back up, view and print my calendar. Currently it is useless. If only Apple could have learned from the elegance of the Palm software.

  • New Applescript version breaks old code

    Hi there,
First off, I'm not an Applescripter, but I have one script I wrote a few years back (with help from kind people on the net) to generate and save tiny applications which, when called from within an Adobe Flash executable, would open the required file using the Mac OS native application associated with them (i.e a doc file wouldbe opened by Word if installed, TextEdit if not...)
It used to run fine on my old Powerbook G4 on an old version of AppleScript, but times change and, one whizzy Intel processor later, I'm trying to get the same script running on OS 10.8 with AppleScipt 2.5.1, with varied results.
Basically, what the script should do is read a comma delimited file in the same folder as the script, called 'fileNames.csv' which contains the names of all the files that I want the tiny apps to open. Each item will then have its own file created by the AppleScript, named after each item, which get saved in an pre-existing folder in the same directory as the script and fileNames.csv file, called 'fscommand'.
The example of the fileNames.csv file I'm having issues with:
    yr2_unit_1_tn.doc,yr2_unit_2_tn.doc,yr2_unit_3_tn.doc ... etc up until  yr2_unit_20_tn.doc
The script always used to work fine, but the new version of AppleScript seems to have broken it. When I run it now, it creates all the .app files up until 'yr2_unit_11_tn.doc.app' but then stalls in 'Running...' mode in the AppleScipts editor, and refuses to save apps for the final nine files in the .csv file.
It still runs ok from an older AppleScript editor (2.2.1) but this only saves PowerPC applications, which won't run on Intel Macs. And this would be me running away from the problem, rather than attempting to solve it ;-)
I'm thinking it's a filename issue, as it always seems to break when attempting to save "yr2_unit_11_tn.doc.app" when "yr2_unit_1_tn.doc.app" already exists in the 'fscommand' folder. If I create a new 'fileNames.csv' file which only contains ten entries from 'yr2_unit_11_tn.doc' to  'yr2_unit_20_tn.doc', and run the script to an empty 'fscommand' folder, it processes all the files fine. It just won't do all twenty entries from 1 to 20.
Here's the script. I know I'm doing something really stupid here, but as a rock bottom novice AppleScripter, I can't see the error, or why it would work in one version of AppleScript and not another. I can post a link to the zipped files if this is any help in solving it. Thanks in advance for any help! :-)

  • Does the later 2009 MacBook support the Apple DVI to Video Adapter (s-video). I want to connect it to an old tv which does not support HDMI. Any suggestions?

I have a late 2009 MacBook which I want to connect to an old LG tv. The tv does not support HDMI it only has the (red, while, and yellow) ports. Sorry I dunno the exact name for it.
So I was thinking of using the Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter (s-video), link below...
    http://store.apple.com/Catalog/dk/Images/M9319_screen.jpg
But I'm afraid that the MacBook might not support the adapter.
Can anyone give me a solution for this? Is there an alternative way of doing this? I'm kinda new to apple display adapters.

The Late 2009 model 6,1 has a Mini DisplayPort not the Mini-DVI. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When the System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
Composite is the name for the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs. If you want to use the Composite input on your TV there’s no Mini DisplayPort to Composite. You’ll have to get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_19?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field -keywords=mini+displayport+to+vga&sprefix=mini+Displayport+to and a VGA Adapter to TV S-Video RCA Out Cable for PC Video. http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-Cable-Video/dp/B000Y7T5UU/ref=sr_1_7?s =electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316369974&sr=1-7
Only the Yellow plug or the S-Video plug for video will work. For sound you'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate input plugs on your TV  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=macboo k+audio+cable&sprefix=macbook+audio+cable&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amacbook+audio+cable

i have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

  • I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.
    THANK YOU!!

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • TS1369 I fractured the screen on my iPhone 4, 2+ years old and the latest when bought so I bought a new phone but I can not get my previous purchases to download to itunes that were there 2 weeks ago. Changed apple id once and now it shows up when downloa

I bought a brand new iPhone 4 as soon as it came out which was 2010 I think.  No problems until two weeks ago.  I fractured the screen on it so I am slowly losiong some functions like charge, touch screen ability and need to activate my new iPhone but I am having trouble with iTunes showing my full song library. I have 554 plus songs but some that will not update or download,. Two weeks ago is when this all began.  I used to have a different apple ID but changed it after a few months for security reasons.  Now when I try to observe my itunes library it only shows the most recent songs I have purchased,35.  Not all, and there are still songs that it states it can not download because my computer is not authorized, I authorize it and it says it is already authorized.  Then it gives me the old apple ID from years ago and I change it back to my new one, but this only causes it to do it over and over.  I called apple and they said all kinds of mean things that my son or husband had been using my ID or account, of which is impossible because all purchases have to be password protected and I get warnings if anyone attempts to access.  Also, their ID's are not my old one.  Their libraries have none of my music. I do not home share but I thought that iTunes says you can use the music for households if you homeshare so I do not know why the person was so abusive but I am frustrated. So, any ideas?  I was instructed to install icloud and did and it seems to me to be the culprit so I bought the stupid iCloud sharing manage,$25 yearly so that it automatically downloads your full library but no luck, still only shows the purchases I recently made with my gift card.  This was suggested by the apple care expert.  Can not update my phone until backed up, can not change phones until updated and backed up.

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer

  • Follow up on an old thread about memory utilization

This thread was active a few months ago, unfortunately its taken me until now
for me to have enough spare time to craft a response.

    Subj: Re: memory utilization
As a general rule, I would agree that memory utilzation problems tend to be
developer-induced. I believe that is generally true for most development
environments. However, this developer was having a little trouble finding
out how NOT to induce them. After scouring the documentation for any
references to object destructors, or clearing memory, or garbage collection,
or freeing objects, or anything else we could think of, all we found was how
to clear the rows from an Array object. We did find some reference to
setting the object to NIL, but no indication that this was necessary for the
    memory to be freed.
I believe the documentation, and probably some Tech-Notes, address the issue of
    freeing memory.
Automatic memory management frees a memory object when no references to the
    memory
object exist. Since references are the reason that a memory object lives,
    removing
the references is the only way that memory objects can be freed. This is why the
manuals and Tech-Notes talk about setting references to NIL (I.E. freeing memory
in an automatic system is done by NILing references and not by calling freeing
routines.) This is not an absolute requirement (as you have probably noticed
    that
most things are freed even without setting references to NIL) but it accelerates
the freeing of 'dead' objects and reduces the memory utilization because it
    tends
to carry around less 'dead' objects.
It is my understanding that in this environment, the development tool
(Forte') claims to handle memory utilization and garbage collection for you.
If that is the case, then it is my opinion that it shoud be nearly
impossible for the developer to create memory-leakage problems without going
outside the tool and allocating the memory directly. If that is not the
case, then we should have destructor methods available to us so that we can
handle them correctly. I know when I am finished with an object, and I
would have no problem calling a "destroy" or "cleanup" method. In fact, I
would prefer that to just wondering if Forte' will take care of it for me.
It is actually quite easy to create memory leaks. Here are some examples:
Have a heap attribute in a service object. Keep inserting things into
the heap and never take them out (I.E. forgot to take them out). Since
service objects are always live, everything in the heap is also live.
Have an exception handler that catches exceptions and doesn't do
    anything
with the error manager stack (I.E. it doesn't call task.ErrMgr.Clear).
If the handler is activated repeatedly in the same task, the stack of
exceptions will grow until you run out of memory or the task terminates
(task termination empties the error manager stack.)
It seems to me that this is a weakness in the tool that should be addressed.
Does anyone else have any opinions on this subject?
Actually, the implementation of the advanced features supported by the Forte
    product
results in some complications in areas that can be hard to explain. Memory
    management
happens to be one of the areas most effected. A precise explanation to a
non-deterministic process is not possible, but the following attempts to
    explain the
    source of the non-determinism.
o The ability to call from compiled C++ to interpreted TOOL and back
    to compiled C++.
This single ability causes most of the strange effects mentioned in
    this thread.
For C++ code the location of all variables local to a method is not
    know
    (I.E. C++ compilers can't tell you at run-time what is a variable
    and what
isn't.) We use the pessimistic assumption that anything that looks
    like a
reference to a memory object is a reference to a memory object. For
    interpreted
TOOL code the interpreter has exact knowledge of what is a reference
    and what
isn't. But the TOOL interpreter is itself a C++ method. This means
    that any
any memory objects referenced by the interpreter during the
    execution of TOOL
code could be stored in local variables in the interpreter. The TOOL
    interpreter
runs until the TOOL code returns or the TOOL code calls into C++.
    This means
that many levels of nested TOOL code can be the source of values
    assigned to
local variables in the TOOL interpreter.
This is the complicated reason that answers the question: Why doesn't a
variable that is created and only used in a TOOL method that has
    returned
get freed? It is likely that the variable is referenced by local
    variables
in the TOOL interpreter method. This is also why setting the
    variable to NIL
before returning doesn't seem to help. If the variable in question is a
Array than invoke Clear() on the Array seems to help, because even
    though the
Array is still live the objects referenced by the Array have less
    references.
The other common occurrence of this effect is in a TextData that
    contains a
large string. In this case, invoking SetAllocatedSize(0) can be used
    to NIL
the reference to the memory object that actually holds the sequence of
characters. Compositions of Arrays and TextData's (I.E. a Array of
    TextData's
that all have large TextDatas.) can lead to even more problems.
When the TOOL code is turned into a compiled partition this effect
    is not
noticed because the TOOL interpreter doesn't come into play and
    things execute
the way most people expect. This is one area that we try to improve
upon, but it is complicated by the 15 different platforms, and thus
    C++ compilers,
that we support. Changes that work on some machines behave
    differently on other
machines. At this point in time, it occasionally still requires that
    a TOOL
programmer actively address problems. Obviously we try to reduce
    this need over
    time.
o Automatic memory management for C++ with support for multi-processor
    threads.
Supporting automatic memory management for C++ is something that is
    not a very
common feature. It requires a coding standard that defines what is
    acceptable and
what isn't. Additionally, supporting multi-processor threads adds
    its own set of
complications. Luckily TOOL users are insulated from this because
    the TOOL to C++
code generator knows the coding standard. In the end you are
    impacted by the C++
compiler and possibly the differences that occur between different
    compilers and/or
different processors (I.E. Intel X86 versus Alpha.) We have seen
    applications that
had memory utilization differences of up to 2:1.
There are two primary sources of differences.
The first source is how compilers deal with dead assignments. The
    typical TOOL
fragment that is being memory manager friendly might perform the
    following:
    temp : SomeObject = new;
    ... // Use someObject
    temp = NIL;
    return;
When this is translated to C++ it looks very similar in that temp
    will be assigned the
value NULL. Most compilers are smart enough to notice that 'temp' is
    never used again
because the method is going to return immediately. So they skip
    setting 'temp' to NULL.
In this case it should be harmless that the statement was ignored
(see next example for a different variation.) In more
complicated examples that involve loops (especially long
lived event loops) a missed NIL assignment can lead to leaking the
    memory object whose
reference didn't get set to NIL (incidentally this is the type of
    problem that causes
the TOOL interpreter to leak references.)
The second source is a complicated interaction caused by history of
    method invocations.
    Consider the following:
Method A() invokes method B() which invokes method C().
Method C() allocates a temporary TextData, invokes
    SetAllocatedSize(1000000)
does some more work and then returns.
    Method B() returns.
Method A() now invokes method D().
Method D() allocates something that cause the memory manager to look
    for memory objects to free.
Now, even though we have returned out of method C() we have starting
    invoking
methods. This causes us to use re-use portions of the C++ stack used to
maintain the history of method invocation and space for local variables.
There is some probability that the reference to the 'temporary' TextData
will now be visible to the memory manager because it was not overwritten
by the invocation of D() or anything invoked by method D().
This example answers questions of the form: Why does setting a local
    variable to
NIL and returning and then invoking task.Part.Os.RecoverMemory not
    cause the
object referenced by the local variable to be freed?
In most cases these effects cause memory utilization to be slightly
    higher
than expected (in well behaved cases it's less than 5%.) This is a small
price to pay for the advantages of automatic memory management.
An object-oriented programming style supported by automatic memory
    management makes it
easy to extended existing objects or sets of objects by composition.
    For example:
Method A() calls method B() to get the next record from the
    database. Method B()
is used because we always get records, objects, of a certain
    type from
method B() so that we can reuse code.
Method A() enters each row into a hash table so that it can
    implement a cache
of the last N records seen.
Method A() returns the record to its caller.
With manual memory management there would have to be some interface
    that allows
Method A() and/or the caller of A() to free the record. This
    requires
that the programmer have a lot more knowledge about the
    various projects
and classes that make up the application. If freeing doesn'
    happen you
have a memory leak, if you free something while its still
    being used the
results are unpredictable and most often fatal.
With automatic memory management, method A() can 'free' its
    reference by removing
the reference from the hash table. The caller can 'free' its
    reference by
either setting the reference to NIL or getting another
    record and referring
to the new record instead of the old record.
Unfortunately, this convenience and power doesn't come for free. Consider
    the following,
which comes from the Forte' run-time system:
A Window-class object is a very complex beast. It is composed of two
    primary parts:
the UserWindow object which contains the variables declared by the
    user, and the
Window object which contains the object representation of the window
    created in
the window workshop. The UserWindow and the Window reference each
    other. The Window
references the Menu and each Widget placed on the Window directly. A
    compound Window
object, like a Panel, can also have objects place in itself. These
    are typically
called the children. Each of the children also has to know the
    identity of it's
Mom so they refer to there parent object. It should be reasonably
    obvious that
starting from any object that make up the window any other object
    can be found.
This means that if the memory manager finds a reference to any
    object in the Window
it can also find all other objects in the window. Now if a reference
    to any object
in the Window can be found on the program stack, all objects in the
    window can
also be found. Since there are so many objects and the work involved
    in displaying
a window can be very complicated (I.E. the automatic geometry
    management that
layouts the window when it is first opened or resized.) there are
    potentially many
different reference that would cause the same problem. This leads to
    a higher than
normal probability that a reference exists that can cause the whole
    set of Window
    objects to not be freed.
We solved this problem in the following fashion:
Added a new Method called RecycleMemory() on UserWindow.
Documented that when a window is not going to be used again
    that it is
preferably that RecycleMemory() is invoked instead
    of Close().
The RecycleMemory() method basically sets all references
    from parent to
child to NIL and sets all references from child to
    parent to NIL.
Thus all objects are isolated from other objects
    that make up
    the window.
Changed a few methods on UserWindow, like Open(), to check
    if the caller
is trying to open a recycled window and throw an
    exception.
This was feasible because the code to traverse the parent/child
    relationship
ready existed and was being used at close time to perform other
    bookkeeping
operations on each of the Widgets.
    To summarize:
Automatic memory management is less error prone and more productive but
    doesn't come totally for free.
There are things that the programmer can do that assists the memory
    manager:
o Set object reference to NIL when known to be correct (this
    is the
way the memory is deallocated in an automatic system.)
o Use methods like Clear() on Array and SetAllocatedSize()
    on TextData to
that allow these objects to set their internal
    references to NIL
    when known to be correct.
o Use the RecycleMemory() method on windows, especially very
    complicated
    windows.
o Build similar type of methods into your own objects when
    needed.
o If you build highly connected structures that are very
    large in the
number of object involved think that how it might be
    broken
apart gracefully (it defeats some of the purpose of
    automatic
management to go to great lengths to deal with the
    problem.)
o Since program stacks are the source of the 'noise'
    references, try
and do things with less tasks (this was one of the
    reasons that
we implemented event handlers so that a single task
    can control
    many different windows.)
Even after doing all this its easy to still have a problem.
    Internally we have
access to special tools that can help point at the problem so that
    it can be
solved. We are attempting to give users UNSUPPORTED access to these
    tools for
Release 3. This should allow users to more easily diagnose problems.
    It also
tends to enlighten one about how things are structured and/or point out
inconsistencies that are the source of known/unknown bugs.

I beleive he means to reformat it like a floppy disk.
Go into My Computer, Locate the drive letter associated with your iPod(normally says iPod in it, and shows under removable storage).
Right click on it and choose format - make sure to not have the "quick format" option checked. Then let it format.
If that doesnt work, There are steps somewhere in the 5th gen forum( dont have the link off hand) to try to use the usbstor.sys to update the USB drivers for the Nano/5th gen.

  • On iOS 8 and "old" device for the operating system. О iOS 8 и "Старых" устройствах на этой операционной системе

    USA.
Good day! I like you a fan of the forum users of APPLE. I live in the Russian Federation. Began his acquaintance with this company back in 2010 with the Ipad 2 device was still on ios 5. In January 2014 I made a gift and bought the iPhone 5s on OC IOS 7. I bought it at the official Russian official price that more accurately put Apple in 1100 $. In our country, it is a lot of money. With the money I could live for 3 months. In fact, I became the owner of a top (at the time) from a favorite device of Apple. My iPhone 5s worked perfectly on ios 7. sometimes met friezes light animation, and non-critical bugs, but who is without sin? Favorite company I was willing to forgive it because I see that she is trying to be better and not standing still. Looking WWDC presentation which provided us with iOS 8 you assured me that everything was better, faster, more functional. I was determined that update my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.0 ... APPLE releases new OC iOS 8 ... And I live! Behind the beautiful words that we said at the presentation of the great features of the new iOS hiding "something." And that "something" turned my phone in ... "pumpkin"! Yes! In that same stupid pumpkin! And now I will explain why I think it's pumpkin, not rose.
Sea bugs ... and they are awful and terrible as it does not give me the full extent of my work enjoy iPhone 5s!
    Start from the beginning:
1 Streaming through technology "Air play".
"Air play" ceased to function properly! He was often disconnected from Apple tv and Apple airport express last generation. Apple tv 2g can not receive the signal from my iPhone 5s! And when it's all the same he gets a video playback does not last long, it just breaks and does not connect again! Helps to restart Apple TV and a hard reset by holding the button "HOME" button and "POWER". On the "Apple TV" is worth the latest firmware as these problems are manifested in the previous firmware of the device.
    2 Built-in browser "Safari".
Tab in the "Safari" became constantly updated when I switch to another application or the other tabs! Apparent lack of memory (on iOS 7.1.2 with it all much better. At least when switching tabs does not re-update the previous tab).
Playing online video on non-optimized mobile site in the browser "Safari" really does not work! It is turned on and loaded almost to infinity! Sometimes just a black screen with an icon "Play" to be pressed at least 100 times, and the result is 0!
Scroll pages in the browser have become terribly sharp and smooth! on iOS 7.1.2 everything is fine, nice and smooth and no such bugs! Total confusion and thoughtfulness browser "Safari".
If the video still runs (for me equates to a miracle) then when rewinding the film is generally something strange ... Fast chooses how minutes and seconds I watch a movie (usually just starts playing from the beginning), or does not respond at all ... This is the same magic Apple? Unlikely.
    3 multitasking menu (double-press "HOME").
Call multitasking (by double-clicking "HOME") began working with a delay, with a lag, c jerky animation, and sometimes even without it.
Control Center (which is called swipe upwards) was to slow down! Yes! That retard! Animation jumping shutter control center began play with tangible frame loss! If iPhone 5s under the control of OS iOS 7.1.2 everything happened smoothly, beautifully and dynamically in the iOS 8.0 it looks like on the iPhone 5 running iOS 7.C than strongly connected is not clear! Graphic differences from iOS iOS 7 8 almost equal to 0, and the speed of decline in almost 50%! How ?! Why ?! Why does my iPhone 5s become the iPhone 5 ?! This is an artificial slowing my device to increase the demand on the iPhone 6 or still glitch iOS 8.0 for iPhone 5s? Honey the company Apple, I really hope for the 2nd. Especially this shortfall fps animation curtain markedly if you open multitasking (acquired by double button "HOME") and call the control center and you'll see that the animation is playing choppy and not smooth! On IOS 7.1.2 this is not! Control center jumps smoothly and beautifully! On iOS 8.0 it happens all the time! Even if you turn off your favorite contacts and recent calls (I'm ashamed to say they thought) that appeared in iOS 8 (they are above programs on the multi-tasking) not solve the problem. As well, if you call the control center on the lock screen, then drop FPS will be very noticeable even to the untrained viewer (especially if you take two iPhone 5s one running iOS 7 and 8, the second on iOS and compare them on the forehead). If the Control Center click airdrop (air play) the animation of its appearance again played in spurts and not terribly nice and smoothly (especially noticeable on the lock screen and comparison of the forehead)! In a telephone call has been going absolutely shameless FPS drop a call center management and other activities!
And yes, for me it is a critical issue! I do not want the transition to iOS 9 my iPhone 5s turned to the iPhone 4 on iOS 7 (vid you all remember this terrible story?)! I want my iPhone 5s worked as smoothly as on iOS 7.1.2! Nor any justification for this inhibition iskuvsstvennoy I can not see! 8 beautiful iOS did not! graphic elements do not appear! So goes the Apple is doing this on purpose ?! We go down the list!
4 minor bugs that just break my brain and kill all the beauty of the use of "the best mobile operating system in the world"!
4.1. When a call comes in when you clicked the icon making a call the phone for about 2-3 seconds, vibrates and plays a melody. On iOS 7.1.2 ringtone and vibration stops as soon as you have accepted the challenge and in your ear does not play your ringtone by "imagine Dragons", cheeks beats you invented vibration in the style of "Tick-tonic."
4.2. When you look at the page on the Internet-phone terribly terribly strongly heated! A pair of piping hot! On iOS 7.1.2 is no such problem! Telephone hot, but not as much as on iOS 8.0!
4.3. Folder on the home screen opens with a delay of 0.5-1 second is the impact on the overall impression of iOS 8.0.
4.4. When you create a set (12 pieces) icons in one folder if dramatically open the folder and make swipe to the left then the following icons in this folder does not have time to boot up and are delayed by 1 second.
4.5. When you create a folder with 1-9 icons do if the above action fails then the animation (the same bug exists in iOS 7.1.2). It is very not nice aesthetically.
4.6. Scroll to your "Settings" felt terribly antsy. Although it is not only in the application "Settings" but also to the entire system and applications in general ...
4.7. Scroll to the Home screen has become less responsive to user actions all movements inogoda occur with jerky animation and some delay to the user.
4.8. Quite often, and without rational reason for going off the sensor device. That is, the screen does not respond to any user action! Helps pressing "HOME" or hard reset by holding the button "HOME" and "POWER".
4.9. Most people on the iPhone 5s lost communication with a mobile operator. Just go on and lost and because of this I have missed calls from their loved ones and friends (would cost you to be glad that I have not missed calls on business issues).
5.0. Many owners of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 uhudzhenie complain about battery life. I honestly did not notice it, but we will not drop this off.
      Outcome.
And now gets quite an interesting question, why? Why does my iPhone 5s began to slow? Why in the absence of graphical improvements are absolutely the same actions were reproduced with the loss of fps, slow down, lag, hover, fly? Why, if put next iPhone 5s on iOS 7.1.2 and exactly the same iPhone 5s on iOS 8.0 and pull the control panel to call multitasking bar, carry out all other actions I have described it on your device running iOS 7.1.2 it will work without any delays, lags, the deterioration in the responsiveness of the interface, reducing fps, and no departures from simple applications written directly by Apple? I see absolutely no any obstacles in the way to make the iPhone 5s to the operating system iOS 8.0 worked with the same smoothness, with the same responsiveness and speed as the iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.2! I do not see what these restrictions are not!
There are many different bugs that I do not even remember now (as I write this text on emotions (positive) as able to roll back your iPhone 5s back to iOS 7.1.2, and he seemed to come alive with new life) and so far I have esteemed company APPLE does not eliminate these improvements do not, I will not go back to iOS 8.0! if the dispensation of these bugs, flaws, intentional degradation of the (almost identical in performance in comparison with the iPhone 6) IPhone 5s will not happen and the company APPLE will continue to apply to consumers of their products as a beta tester I will be forced to organize a petition and file a class action lawsuit in court not only in their own country (which is for the Russian Federation) but also in the United States and in other countries where people are just like me trying to deceive, mislead and force companies to buy new devices APPLE without having expressed any any more substantial explanation except as <iPhone 6 was 25% more powerful on with alignment with the iPhone 5s>!
    P.s.
I hope Apple will still listen to their users and I also hope that it (Apple) still change his mind and will try in the near future to give users not-so-old devices (iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPad mini Retina) and enjoy on all the new features of iOS 8 no lag, locked up, overheating, inhibited animation. Thank you for being there!
    Ru.
Air play".

Agreed! This bug with the ringtone delay (№4.1) is really annoying

  • I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which was unknown imported as single tracks. How can I combine these into one album

I've been importing all my old CDs into itunes but one of them which came up as unknown has imported as single tracks named track 1, track 2 etc. It wasn't an obscure CD (Paul Carrack - the journey so far) but not one that's available in the itunes store. I've manually changed the track names but they all appear as single tracks in the "Albums" section. Is there a way to put them all into an album to show up as an album with the other albums. Other "unknown" CDs I imported have imported with the correct track names but just don't have the album artwork so I don't understand why this one is behaving totally different?

If you select the tracks all together in iTunes/ Songs then go to File/Get info you will be asked "Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items?" Go ahead and you can make them into an album, putting in the artist name, etc.

    Hello,
I'm really, really confused and I'd appreciate some advice.  I came here after searching for information on merging two apple IDs so let me start my saying that I understand that I cannot do this.  I get that.  The FAQ says I just need to start using my preferred Apple ID from now on.  How exactly do I do this?  Is it as simple as logging in with the preferred ID next time I purchase something?  If I do that, what would happen to all my purchases under the old Apple ID the next time I sync my devices?
Here is the background to my situation:
I created an Apple ID when I first got an iPod many years ago.  It was my e-mail address at the time.  All my iTunes purchases have been made with that ID.
I bought my first Mac a couple of years ago.  At the same time I purchased a MobileMe subscription.  My MobileMe subscription was later converted to an iCloud account.
I'm no longer with the ISP that provided me with the e-mail address used for my first Apple ID.  My only e-mail account is now my me.com address.
I tried to change my Apple ID to my new e-mail address but it said it couldn't be done because my me.com e-mail is already in use.
All my iTunes receipts go to my old e-mail address that I no longer have access to.  I'd like my receipts to go to my me.com address.
I have a MacBook Pro, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch (all synced through iCloud), I also have an iPod Shuffle.
In order to get my iTunes and App Store receipts to go to my me.com address, I think the FAQs are telling me that I need to start using my me.com address as my preferred Apple ID.  It seems to gives me an option of changing my e-mail address for communications but as soon as it realises that it is a me.com address it says I can't do it.
I'm concerned that if I just make make my next purchase with my me.com ID the next time I sync my devices I'll just have one song on there rather than my entire library.  Can somebody please guide me through this?

You need to retain the ID you are currently using for iTunes in order to retain access to your purchases. You should go to http://appleid.apple.com and log in using the iTunes ID, and add a contact address there - you could get a GMail account (free). You may be able to forward mail on from GMail to your @me.com address, I'm not sure about that.
You can continue to use the ex-MobileMe ID for iCloud - there is no problem about using two IDs in this way.

  • Apparently I have MULTIPLE Apple ID's, many linked to very old computers/emails that I no longer use and I have no clue what they are nor what the passwords could possibly be. I just want to be able to listen to music THAT I OWN!

I am trying to play music on my iTunes that I had burned from either CD's that I had bought & own (in order to preserve the CD from damage and it is all only for my personal use) or purchased through iTunes. Much, but not all of this was done on an old computer, and on old e-mails that no longer exist, and for that matter I have no clue what the passwords could possibly be! The computer that I use now is at least 10 years old, so how am I supposed to remember passwords from that long ago? I am constantly being told to reset my password, but that apparently just seems to compound the issue. One account will not even accept my birthday and my security question which I know with 100% certainty are correct. I JUST WANT ACCESS TO MUSIC I OWN OR HAVE PURCHASED over the past 20+ years, and I don't care what computer I did it on or what e-mail address I used, and forget about trying to recall my password! Apple makes it so difficult to do passwords it's ridiculous! I would need a book to write down every password that I have tried, and apparently not succeeded in using! add to my frustration is that my son put literally TONS of his music onto my computer and used his various Apple ID's and passwords, and it's just a bumble cluck of a mess. AGAIN, I only want access to MY MUSIC!

You're supposed to remember them or make note of them because they are key to a resource in which you have invested financially, just like keeping records for bank accounts you have or keys to your car.  It is just that people haven't woken up to the importance of having a digital legacy too.

  • I have three email accounts on my iPhone.  one account is now constantly downloading old emails as unread.  I am know into the thousands.  How can I stop that

I have three email accounts on my iphone.  one of the accounts is now constantly downloading old emails and marking them as unread. I can I stop this from happening?

iPhone mirrors the content of your accounts. You can turn off that account by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > account > turn off mail. Then access your email account via webmail/website and delete them there. Once you turn on the account again in your iPhone it wont download them all. Otherwise to leave it downloading then mark them all read once downloaded.
