My only hard drive in the PC displays as, Sixth IDE Master..Why? It works Slow 2

I currently have only 1 thats connected to the PC
For some odd reason when I start the PC the screen tells me its the Sixth IDE Master drive
and my CDRW and DVDRW roms display as Primary IDE Master and Slave
The CDRW and DVDRW are connected to IDE1 in the motherboard
and my Hard drive is connected to IDE2 as the Master drive and IDE3 slot is empty
So my question is.. How can I make it display as Secondary IDE Master?
I changed the option in BIOS from IDE to RAID.. I'm not sure what RAID does.. but when I see the RAID screen when the computer starts up it shows my hard drive as non-Raid, maybe I have to install drives for the HD? I have noticed my HD runs way slower than when I connected it to IDE1, the reason it's not connected to IDE1 but IDE2 is because my cd-roms have to be connected there, IDE1 is the closest to them and I don't have a long enough IDE cable to reach them from IDE2 since that slot is all the way down on the mobo..
I'm running a 3.4gh P4 PC with 1gb ram on an MSI 925X Neo mobo
Any more info you guys need?

IDE1 will give you Primary Master and Slave.
IDE2 belongs to the embedded VIA6410 IDE/RAID controller. You need to have its driver installed then only you can get the fullspeed of it, otherwise it will run slow.
2ndary IDE master belongs to the SATA ports. There are 4 ports of SATA and SATA doesn't hav eMaster and Slave. So it will take out 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th IDE. So... VIA6410 becomes 6th IDE
Everything else is OK. I suggest you put your main HDD, the one with OS installed at IDE1. And your not-so-frequently-accessed drives like the optical drives, put on IDE2/IDE3 on VIA6410. This will help speeding up everything.

  • Can i connect thunderbolt duo hard drive to the mini display port of a late 2008 macbook pro which do not have thunderbolt port, but have mini display port.

hi, i have a late 2008 15 inch macbook pro, which have a mini display port.
I noticed that thunderbolt and mini display port looks a like. So, my question is :
can i connect thunderbolt duo hard drive to the mini display port of a late 2008 macbook pro which do not have thunderbolt port, but have mini display port.
    thank you

    ken94538,
no, you’d need a Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter or Thunderbolt-to-USB adapter to be able to access your Thunderbolt hard drive from your 2008 MacBook Pro.

  • Bridge cs6 export - only hard drive option is present. I want ftp and social network module

I want to export my images right from the bridge. Uploading them to different social sites and ftps is a bit of a hassle and it is easy to forget something in the process. It would be so much better if I could just drag files to desired locations/presets.
I've seen something like that in the blogs (but with lower version of CS) where people have facebook and other options. But I can see only hard drive module.
Is it possible? If so - why don't I have this option? What can I do?

If you don’t see the four modules, click the flyout menu and choose “Manage Modules.”
Make sure all four are checked. If you don’t see the four listed, click the little gear, and from ITS flyout menu, choose “Check for Updates.” When you’re through, click the small “Done” button at the bottom to return to the Export Panel main window.
You can start using the export modules directly, but every time you use them you’ll have to go through a long export process. Use presets to streamline this operation, by saving all the work for re-use. You can create multiple presets; for example, you might have several presets for Facebook depending on whether you want to send the images to your wall, or a specific album. We’ll step through the Facebook setup first.
In the Export Panel, highlight “Facebook” and click on the “+” icon at the bottom to Add a new Preset.
The “Add Preset” dialog appears, and the first thing you will need to do is authenticate with Facebook. Note that you will need to authenticate every time you create a new preset, even with the same service, but you won’t need to authenticate when you actually export your images. Click on “Sign In.”
Two things happen: Your browser will be launched, and you’ll see the authentication page from Facebook. You’ll need to enter your credentials, and you can check “Keep me logged in to Adobe Bridge Export Panel.”
    Etc. etc.
You can follow the rest of the instructions here:

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

  • How do you connect a usb printer and usb external hard drive to the airport extreme, as it only has one usb port?

I'm thinking about upgrading my old 802.11g router for a new airport extreme. Can it connect to a usb printer and external hard drive at the same time and acutally work. It only has one usb port on the back.
    thank you!

To add multiple USB printers and/or HDDs, you just first need to connect a USB hub (powered prefereably) to the AirPort's USB port, and then, add the USB devices to the hub.

  • Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?

Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?  I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive.  I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future.  So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options?  If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices.  But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop).  I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined!  (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices.  I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question?  Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future?  Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops!  And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?
    Thanks everybody!

The modules are proprietary. They are installed in a slot secured with a tiny screw.
macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop.

  • Can the hard drive from the Time Capsule be used as USB drive only?

My Time Capsule "router" kept losing the wireless capabilty, so I purchased an Airport Express (with the dual-band router).
I'd like to salvage the Time Capsule hard-drive portion and connect it to a USB port.
But when I plug-in the Time Capsule, the light blinks yellow suggesting some configuration problem.
When connecting to a USB port, my iMac will not detect a new device.
Can the Time Capsule hard-drive be used separately from the router?

Can the hard drive from the Time Capsule be used as a USB drive only?
Sorry, but no. The Time Capsule is a network drive, so it must be connected to a network using an Ethernet or wireless connection. The USB port on the Time Capsule is there only to add additional storage capacity.
Can the Time Capsule hard-drive be used separately from the router
Yes, you would configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode to do this. If you do not need the wireless capability, you can turn the wireless off on the Time Capsule.

If the C key for Install Disc or R Command for OS X Recovery startup commands are not working, try holding the Option key for the Startup Manager.
see > Startup Manager: How to select a startup volume
If that does not work and you using a wireless keyboard, it may have become unpaired and you need to dig up a USB keyboard to invoke the startup commands.

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

Any ideas on what to do next?
    I'm running and iMac 20-inch  early 2009
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

    Step 1
Quit Calendar. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file named "Calendar Cache" selected.
Move the selected file to the Trash. There may be one or two other files in the same folder with names that begin in "Calendar Cache". If so, delete those files too.
    Step 2
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

I'm trying to restore the hard drive to the factory WinXP OS image on a number of 1951-A31 ThinkPad T60.
Found these instructions in the trouble shooting guide:
    1. If possible, save all your files and shut down your operating system.
    2. Turn off your computer for at least 5 seconds.
    3. Turn on your computer. Watch the display carefully. While the message, “To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button” is displayed, press the ThinkVantage button. The Rescue and Recovery workspace opens.
    4. Click Restore your system and follow the instructions on the screen.

    kamszelei, welcome to the forum,
    from a lurker
which version of Think Vantage System Upate do you have installed?
If you have version 3.13.0009 installed please try the following; boot into Windows and run TVSU.  It'll update itself, restart, then update itself again. Hopefully the option to recover to factory content will then be available to you.
Please also check the following registry key; HKLM\Software\Lenovo\TVT Common
If the "System Type" key is 1, change it to 0. If it is already set to 0 don't change anything and let us know
Unfortunately my Thinkvantage update system is saying it cannot connect because it is not running
Here are my questions about ThinkVantage:
How do I get Thinkvantage update to run?
How do I find the version number for Thinkvantage
How do I "boot into Windows and run TVSU
    My other question is this:
Can I simply buy the backup DVDs with the original XP?
    Thanks
    (mod edit: fixed broken link)

You need to have a harddrive installed that contains the original system restore partition, many people delete them because they are redundant and use up space and after a while, most of the content is outdated, meaning it will install 4-5yo system and software that you'd only want to replace or update anyway. I prefer to install from a windows setup disc, but you can buy the restore sets, it's a set of 7 or 8 CDrom, not DVD discs. Lenovo sells them I believe, or if you can find someone willing to copy a set and send them to you, it would save you some money. I can tell you that if I had a several of these to do, I'd much rather use a single windows setup disc, preferably one with the latest service pack and updates, so I'm done after a few mins and one disc, opposed to installing many discs, changing from one to the other, then in the end downloading and installing service pack three, then a few dozen hotfixes, it could turn into hours of work on each unit, but if you want them with all the preloaded software, then that is the only way. • Is it possible to connect an external USB 2.0 hard drive to a Thunderbolt Display?

    Hello,
Is it possible to connect an external USB 2.0 hard drive to a Thunderbolt Display and back up a MacBook Air to the external hard drive using Time Machine?
I intend to connect my MacBook Air to the Thunderbolt Display using a Thunderbolt cable.
I would also like to connect my printer via USB 2.0 to the Thunderbolt Display. Will this also work?
Effectively using the Thunderbolt Display as a USB hub or docking station.

This configuration requires 2 cables to disconnect/reconnect from my MacBook Air.

You can never, never migrate an installed copy of PSE. It's just too complex and you can't get to all the bits and bobs.
First you will have to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
which will not seem to do anything, but is necessary to break the links within PSE so that you can pitch the bits manually. Then you will have to go around, not only to applications, but also to your username>library>preferences and most importantly to the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe, and remove everything you can find. Spotlight will not help with this kind of search, so don't try that.
Then you can install PSE from scratch.

  • Can I use Migration Assistant to migrate from a hard drive on the same computer?

I have a Mac Pro with spaces for four hard drives.
I currently have only one hard drive, with Mac OS X 10.6 on it.
I am getting a new, second hard drive (a Solid State Drive). I want it to be my primary drive, to install Mac OS X 10.6 on that and use that as the startup disk.
I want to leave my original hard drive in the computer as a secondary drive.
I understand that the Migration Assistant can only import settings from another, separate, Mac? Is that true?
Or is it possible to tell Migration Assistant to get the settings from this older hard drive, even though it is on the very same computer?
Thank you in advance for insights, suggestions, advice and ideas!

MA will transfer your current system preferences to the SSD regardless of where they come from.
BTW, you will need a special mounting sled for the SSD. You should find them at OWC.
