OK, as always I waited before downloading a new OS and I'm sure glad I did. On the APP store I sorted comments by most critical...and WHOA...what is Apple doing? No support for Logic 9, MS Office? Is Apple only trying to reach the iphone/iTouch crowd? HELP! I was going to buy a new Mac pro & two 27" monitors but until I see some real problem addressing by Apple...I'll keep what I have and see how everything pans out. If you look through ALL the reviews, they are mainly good. I feel that Lion is an excellent upgrade, although not essential.
There have been some issues with MS Office, but right now, it is up to Microsoft to issue a Lion compatible update, which will come in time. Saying this, MS Office has been working fine on my mac, it seems to be an isolated issue.
Logic 9 seems like a strange issue. Again, an update looks to be coming soon, with Lion support.
I do not feel that apple only focusing on the iPhone and iPad user base. There are many features carried along, but the machine can still be used for pro tools and use just as well. It still is a fantastic, reliable, fast, easy to use OS, which I have had very few problems with. Some additions you may not use, but they don't get in the way. You will love the new Exposé, Mission Control, as it is great for pro users who have many windows open at once, and the new spaces. You may however, never use Launchpad, but you don't have to, just drag it away from the dock!
I really reccomend buying a mac with Lion, although if you are worried about bugs, wait a few months for the issues to be ironed out, and updates to be given. Because the update is so very cheap, I really think you can hardly go wrong. Try it out with your current mac, and if you like it, go ahead and buy your new ones.
Lion is fantastic, albeit maybe rushed.

I am looking for an ibook app form my MAC and can only find it for the iphone and the ipad. I like reading on my computer.... so what gives? I enjoy using my iphone but it becomes tedious and I dont need an ipad.

After I connect my iPhone (3GS 5.0.1) to any Ad-hoc wireless Network then walk away out of the reach of my wifi network, my iPhone can't find any wifi Network afterwards, only by turning off the iPhone completely and turning on again.
switching off wifi and on again or going into airplane mode did't help!
This problem happens only with ad-hoc wifi networks not with normal ones.

Sorry, but the 169.x.x.x IP address is internally generated by the iPod (and iPhone) and indicates that a network has been detected but no IP address has been issued. Your friends iPhone was not connected to your ad hoc network either - it connected to the internet through the 3G network.
You should read through the Vista help screens on ad hoc networking for some insight how this works. You should be able to get some ideas there.
In the mean time, $40 or less will buy you a very capable wireless router with four Ethernet ports and will simplify your network tremendously. Having used Windows ICS for a long time, the addition of a router and a real network simplified things so much. -
I backedup my iphone 4 to the cloud before upgrading to an iphone 5. I also backedup my iphone 5 to icloud. I can see both phone's backups side by side on the my screen on icloud. But it will not allow me to restore the iphone 4 backup to my iphone 5. I need contacts from the iphone 4 backup but I do not have that phone anymore and icloud will only let me restore the iphone 5's backups to my iphone 5. Is there anyway to get the contacts from my previous iphone 4 backup?
You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

View only selected calendars on the iPhone
How are specific calendars turned off on the iPhone. It seems that the default is that all calendars are visible. On the Mac it is possible to turn on selected calendars for viewing. Is there a similar function on the iPhone? thanks.
I am having the same problem but the replies don't answer the question. Let me try an explain in a different way.
I have five calenders on my iPhone: Bills, Personal, Work, Dr., and Auto. If I select "All" in the Calendars screen in the Calendars app, the calendar shows all five of my calenders. Occasionally I only want to show four of the five calenders, for example I do not want to show the "Work" calendar, but I want to show the other five. I still want to sync all of the calendars all of the time, I just want to select which one of the five I show did show. -
I know touch id replaces the need to input a code but I would rather only have my fingerprint as the only way to access my iphone. Is this possible? Thanks!

If you have a concern that someone would guess your four-digit code, try turning off Simple Passcode, and choose a complex alphanumeric passcode. Perhaps that would help. -

Selecting and moving mail to files has become a nuisance.
Why is it that when I wish to print an email only what's in the window will print?
Is there any way I can use the old design? When the new one was introduced, one had the option to use the old but now that option seems to have evaporated.

The interface is new and there have been some bugs which is usually normal when something new like this is introduced. I haven't experienced any problems but I only use webmail access for my .Mac account if needed when I'm away from my Mac using another computer with internet access that is not my own which is what webmail access for an email account that can be accessed with an email client on your computer is primarily for.
Is there a reason you do not use an email client such as the Mail.app to access your .Mac account when using your Mac? -
I placed an upgrade order for two phones, an iPhone 6 and 6plus.
I was in the Verizon shopping cart at 11:55 and checked out by 12:01 AM pacific time.
I do have my email confirmation for both phones with ship date 9/19
The iPhone 6 has shipped with tracking number and the charge to my card came through for the price of this phone.
There is no other information available - nothing on the status of the 6 Plus. Customer service doesn't know if this is normal or if my order went through, its really bad.
Any further information would be much appreciated.I was just told by a Verizon sales rep that, when her team got in, when she checked the system at 3:03 (midnight+ 3 minutes) all 6Plus had a back order date of October, and now its going into November even though the pre-order system was showing 9/19 - that all verizon iphone 6 plus had an instant sell out.
She had no additional information on my iPhone 6 plus, not even if there was a chance for it to ship out, when the back order date would be - no further information.
(A different rep I talked to said all iphone 6 plus pre orders had a ship date of October, all of them - I asked what Verizon is going to do when they advertised iphone 6 plus for 9/19 delivery and your telling me they never had any available - at this point he transferred me... *****) -
I've tried everything, and I'm not sure what the problem is. The iTunes program on my macbook recognizes the password, but iTunes on the iPhone apparently doesn't.
After you changed the PW did you go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and sign out and sign back in?

Am I the only one who hates the size of app store pages?
Just upgraded from iOS 5 to 7, getting used to it but overall I like it. However, there's one major problem: what the heck happened to the App Store pages? They used to fill the entire screen, now they're just a little window in the middle with maybe two inches at most to scroll through the description. I like the separation of description and reviews, but why so tiny? It makes no sense.
And just to make even less sense, there's now App Store on the iTunes app as we'll, which has exactly the same layout but at full screen! It's such a pleasure to use, but finding apps is such a pain that it'd rather use App Store. Is there any fix?Most owners of iLife 08 I know use iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 08 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 08 about 10%).
I do find that iMovie 08 is "feature reduced" and not as DVD friendly compared to iMovie 06. iMovie 06 is "timeline based", iMovie 08 is "clip based". The lack of a true timeline in IM08 is hard to get used to for some.
It is true that you can make a DVD using iMovie 08 but I find it to be harder. iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
iMovie 08 is NOT an upgrade of iMovie 06. It is a completely new application. iMovie 08 is better for absolute beginners that don't want to burn a DVD. Most others will like iMovie 06 for its far greater editing power and ease of making DVDs. (Like creating Chapter Markers and Share to iDVD.)
Remember that Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (They want you to have it.)

Activating Facetime and Imessages on your phone requires the ability to send SMS messages and depending upon where you are that might be an international SMS. Check with your carrier to see if your plan supports sending of international SMS messages. If you are having trouble activating Facetime or Imessages turn them both off on your device and reset the device (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost)). Wait for the device to restart and wait a minute and turn Facetime and imessage back on and wait for activation. If that does not fix things read the following articles:
