Urgent Help is Needed for Database Installation Problems
How can we resolve the following database problems in Windows XP? Originally, we had Oracle 10.1.0.4.2, and we wanted to upgrade it to Oracle 10.2.0.1. We uninstalled Oracle Home ORAH1_DEV and then got the following problems while installing Oracle 10.2.0.1. -OyA specific ORACLE_HOME holds the binaries for a specific version of Oracle. You don't upgrade by simply installing a newer version of Oracle into the ORACLE_HOME of an older version. If you tried to do that you have probably irreversibly corrupted the original installation.
And there is no URGENT or ASAP here. We are all volunteers with regular jobs. If you have "urgent" support issues you need to open a Service Request with Oracle Support. -

Supported platform for EHP6 installation
Hi guys - Can anyone answer this question. I can not find this info on PAM or SDN. Please help.
We are installing ERP 6.0 EHP6. We know that Oracle supports EHP6 on Linuux REDHAT 6.0 only for development.
We do not want to take a chance just in case there is a delay in support on REDHAT 6.0. Therefore we are planning to install the system on REDHAT 5.7.
Can anyone let me know if ERP6 EHP6 installation is certified on REDHAT 5.7?

Although you donot see RHEL5.7 on PAM, it dosen't mean they donot support it. They want to walk away from supporting RHEL 5.7 on 7.20 kernel. Therefore they recommend to go with RHEL 6.0 and 720 ECT kernel. However there is a SAP note that is not released to public and I can not share the note, it states that by replacing few components of 720 EXT kernel with 720 Kernel, you can implemnt the EHP6 on RHEL 5.7.
Therefore, If you are a ramp-up client for this product and you do not see the supported platform on PAM, I recommend that your coach to contact SAP development team for clarification.

I have seen posting about the installation of EBS R12/i11 saying it does not work with Windows Vista (64 bit). I went ahead and tried it anyway to see what kind of errors I get and to confirm if the errors I get are consistent with other people using Windows Vista. FYI, my installation went as far as 99% complete of step 2 of 5 before it errored out. I checked and noticed that many components of EBS have been installed with status equal zero which is good.
When I got the "TNS-12541: TNS: no listener", I went to Windows services, located the Oracle TNS service that was created by the EBS installation and tried to start it. Then I got this error: "error 1053 the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion". I googled the error message and the resolution is: "To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.". I have tried this but it does not work because my Windows Vista uses a higher version of .Net Framework 1.1. I have done more research but to no avail. However, it is fun as I learn many things about the EBS intallation and Windows Vista.
By the way, these are the steps when I run the rapidwiz on Windows Vista. Click on Start => Click on command prompt => right click on command Prompt => select run as administrator => CD to the path where the rapidwiz reside. Somehow if I use the regular command prompt the installation will die on step 1 of 5 even when I log in as administrator.
In your case you are using Windows 2k3. Make sure your OS is not 64 bit. Whenever you get an error and it does not say much, google it to see the resolution and make sure you read the Installation Guide. Hope this helps. -

regardsThe hardware (memory, cpu, disk) requirements for Oracle varied by version and platform. The requirements were listed in the platform specific installation manuals.
If you want to compile a history or chart of requirement changes you would need to get the mentioned platform specific installation manuals and look there.

Bonjour for Windows installation issue
When running the installer/setup application for Bonjour for Windows on my PC laptop, the installer quits and gives me the error message: "Explorerplugin.dll failed to register."
How do I resolve this problem?I'm having a very frustrating experience installing Bonjour. It seems to start the installation fine and then it stops and say it was interrupted. It gets to the point where it is Publishing Product Information and quits.

is the Bonjour Installer InstallShield-based? if so, perhaps try checking through the following document:

(on the whole, this is much easier to deal with on XP Pro, rather than Home, if it is what is afoot.) -
Oracle 11.2 Database Installation - issues with prerequisite package glibc
Hi All,
I am busy installing Oracle 11g R2. One of the prerequisites for package 'glibc-2.3.4-2.41' is failing because our package version is 'glibc-2.3.4-2.25'.
Could I safely ignore this warning?

probably using a not certified operating system. All certified operating system already ship with the required versions.
I am not saying upgrading the glibc wont work... but you might end up with inconsistent system.

Oracle VM templates for Database 12c & OVM2
Oracle has recently released new VM templates for 12c database:

According the documentation it can be deployed either on Oracle VM version 2 or 3.
I've followed instructions to create a single instance VM (64bit) without a problem.
However I'm having difficulties during the first boot:
PowerOn Failed : Result - failed:<Exception: return=>failed:<Exception: ['xm', 'create', '/OVS/running_pool/1817_CIT-DEV-DB/vm.cfg']=>Error: Boot loader didn't return any data!
We are using Oracle VM version 2. Was anyone successful with installation on VM2 ?
JanI see Oracle's documentation is stating the VM is built on top of Oracle Linux 5 U9 - but in fact the 12c VM is actually using 6 U3
In that case the issue looks similar to this Linux system administrator and Oracle DBA guide: How to startup OL6 as PVM under Oracle VM 2.X
So question for Oracle: Is installation on OVM2 supported as per documentation (and there is a bug in the VM template or in our VM2 installation) or it's a bug in the documentation and only OVM3 is supported ?

Oracle 11g R2 Client Silent Installation Issue (PATH) Windows 7 x86

I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this issue.
I created a Response file using the 'Save Response File' method during an interactive installation on a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 client. (file enclosed)
I have installed it multiple times now with multiple permutations of the command line (got caught out by the old lower case F in responseFile) but now I'm getting the same error each time (a critical error with the PATH according to the installation log). There is nothing wrong with the path length as the installation works fine in GUI mode and passes the Prereq check.

What is the product name for JDeveloper in Metalink3? If I want to submit a ticket for an issue with JDeveloper, what is the proper way to do this? Oracle 10gR2 Grid Management Agents installation issues
I have downloaded the Grid Management Agent from the oracle downloads website and installed on one of my AIX servers but after running through the installation the server does not show up in Grid Control.
Our Grid Control is running on RH4 server.
The platform of host server i am attempting to install the agent on is AIX5.3
I unzipped the following file
AIX_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_3_0.zip
I ran the installer and it all seemed to work ok
I have checked the dbconsole is running,EMCTL STATUS DBCONSOLE
I have checked the agent is running EMCTL STATUS AGENT
I have checked the listener is running LSNRCTL STATUS
I have checked the database is up by CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
I can conect to the http://myserver:1158/em
The local enterprise manager works fine however as i say the server does not appear in my Grid Control console.
I have restarted al the afforementioned listeners, agents etc.
Can anyone give me a pointer as to why after what would appear to be a succesfull install the serevr does not appear in Grid Control console.yingkuan again thanks for the reply
I have read the installation readme and it says i have these installation methods
1 - Methods for mass deployment
2 - Using Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) to install agent
3 - silent installation
4 - NFS Mounted agent installation
I am running the runInstaller method (2) from the list above
Like i say i basically downloaded the following file from Oracle Downloads:
AIX_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_3_0.zip
I FTP'd the file from my PC to the server i wish to be the agent.
I then ran the runInstaller from AIX_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_3_0/aix/agent/install.
However at no point was i asked to insert the OMS server or any other details.
I have read a couple of different readme files and followed what i believe to be the installation instructions. Could you or anyone else possibly throw any light on what i am doing wrong.
