My Original MacBook is falling apart

My Original macbook is fall apart the (Top Case the part with the keyboard) that part is falling apart,
1. Stains on the top case
2. Crack near the button on the trackpad
3. and now the Left arrow key is about ready to fall off.
So I going to take it to one of the Apple Stores- and if they do not fix for free of charge then I think about getting the new MacBook that they just annouced today.
Who thinks that is a good idea?

I took my Original Macbook to a Apple store and I just mention the crack and the loose key. And they said that they would replace the top case for no charge. I went to the Fair Oaks mall (Apple Store that just opened up in April of this year) and they said that the cracks are covered if out of warrenty. And I ask how often do they see cracks in the top case and they say it is normal. So I have brand new on Top Case and it only took them 10 minutes to put the new top case on and it is defentially stronger plastic so it might last a little big longer now. So they did not keep my Macbook for couple days just went and told them about it and then 10 minutes later I had a new top case.

  • Macbook battery falling apart/buldging

I have one of the black 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo Macbooks.   In the last few days the battery on it has started to fall apart.  It's 'buldging' and the top is literally 'blowing' (peeling) right off of it.  The machine is out of warranty/applecare but this seems like a product defect.  Would apple do anything about this, or am I stuck having to replace the battery?

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.

  • Macbook Chasis Falling Apart!

My Macbook BLACK chasis is falling apart. The edges start breaking apart. Does this happen to all of you?

    Hi markis_83
    Welcome to Apple discussions
Unfortunately, some macbooks have been affected by these issues, but provided it's still in warranty Apple will fix it free of charge. In my own case, the lower case of my MB started cracking and it was replaced free of charge.
Contact Apple Care today and get your MB fixed.

  • MacBook is falling apart.

So I have this (slightly) old, a bit beaten-up MacBook. Over time it has become more and more damaged, and for a while I have stopped using it, I still use it I mean, but it's just becoming worse.
I don't have AppleCare, and the warranty is definitely expired on this thing.
Every day it seems like more and more falls off of it (this morning I opened it up to get the latest feed from Safari on it) but the WiFi kaput'd on me, wouldn't see any wireless networks.
The display is completely fried. Not just are there cracks in the LCD, but the cable between the inverter and the graphics card appears to be destroyed. (Though, I can still use an external display and it works fine). Strangely too, the display has this 'in-theater' effect, where everything is completely blank on the top and bottom of the screen, It's seemingly narrowed down, weirdly. (Without ext. display!) Basically, All I see is a black screen unless A: I put the screen under (or in) direct sunlight. B: I use a really bright flashlight - this would get annoying. If I do this, I constantly have to play 'find the cursor'. Arghh!
Since it's already been dissassembled and re-assembled trying to replace the screen AND inverter board, I've just given up and left it as it is. This morning another someone large (small, but to me pretty significant) chunk of plastic came out of my MacBook again, while setting aside another laptop off of it. I hate to say it (don't take this too hard, guys.) I actually use my MacBooks screen as a stand for stuff, including my other laptops. Sometimes I put drinks on it, since it's already a useless display. (Hey, I find MacBooks to be really sturdy! Even the Pro ones!)
My question is, is there a way to possibly bring this thing back to life? It boots up fine, so it's usable, the Wifi is kind of sad, though. It must be when putting it back together disrupted the Wifi,or something about the Wifi cable is 'stuck' somewhere (I read about this happening to old PowerMacs, and even some Mac Pro's I believe) and that the solution is to take it apart again, and fix it myself. -_- The Wifi signal is really low, but it doesn't bother me- only the intermediate disconnects do. The cd drive is fully operational, just sometimes really loud. (I guess this is normal).
If I can possibly afford the fix, (And I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this) what would the price range possibly be from? $20 for a cable? $50? $100-300? I'm hoping it won't be any more over $30 just for a simple cable, I really need to my travel MacBook in operation, I won't have an external display everywhere!
I'm hoping somebody can give me some heads up on this. Thanks!
Note: For some strange reason, my spell checker is not working in Chrome. It never seems to, only in Firefox. Sorry about any inconvenient typos or grammar errors! I'm not very dependant on perfection.
    Cheers
Also; This MacBook was from about 2009-2010, is it OK if I use the MagSafe charger with it? This wasn't it's original charger, but it works, it just heats up the computer a bit though. In regular ranges, as far as I know, and the ventilation is good (the fan turns on, good).

    That won't help.
The only people who can give you an estimate are Apple, and they haven't seen it yet, 2009 MBP's came with the Magsafe adaptor when new and many of your problems are software issues.
Take it to an Apple Store.

  • My MacBook is falling apart!

I bought my MacBook back in august (2007).
Recently, about a month ago, a small crack appeared at the top of my laptop, just above the magnetic area. I tried not to touch it at ALL, but now its completely chipped off.
Now, a week and a bit ago, ANOTHER crack has appeared, but bigger and by the touchpad at the bottom of the laptop, again next to the magnetic bit.
Is this happening to anyone else?
I've been taking pretty good care of my laptop (as my parents would probably KILL me if I messed it up) but I don't know what to do now =(

Bring it back to the store where you bought your machine and get the case replaced. Please search this forum, there are posts about cracks developing on their macbooks. I have not experienced any crack with my macbook (black), I am extremely cautious. I am using the Speck clear case for protection.

  • MacBook Pro falling apart?

OK this one is quit difficult to describe but I'll try any way.
When you look at the back of your MBP you can see the black hinge part. Well today I looked at it and where the black part meets the bottom of the lid at the back. The black bit is showing cracks, or simply separating.
    Does anybody else have this?

    1) Here you can see the "clips" just sort of sitting there. You can also see the bulging.

  • Original macbook sceen fades out to balck then it sleeps.

So i got the original macbook from when they first shipped out the intel processors. It's a core due 1.8 ghz.
The other day, all of a sudden, the macbook started to shut off it's backlight and the sceen fades then it falls asleep.
Sometime you can see that the OS is working even when the backlight shuts off, but even then, that fades and it goes immediately to sleep.
No matter the case, it always goes to sleep, even during a boot up, what's funny is that it would continue the boot up sequence when i wake it up.
I could tell that it's assleep because of the light in the front and the hard drive also gets parked.
    Please help.
What can i do on my own to fix it, and if it is a hard ware problem, what parts could i buy or how much would it cost to fix on my own or how much would it cost for apple to fix it?
    Thanks a mil.

  • FALLING APART!

My computer is falling apart! on the right hand side by the track pad, a thin portion of the plastic is peeling back! I have friends with the same model, having the same issues! What is going on? Is this covered? I didn't buy the extra warantee.

    Hi,
Just adding my two bits...same thing with my Macbook. Cracks on both sides where your palm rests. It appears to match exactly where the magnet-ridges come down.
I've seen lots of identical issues in other Mac forums. Right now I've got scotch tape preventing further damage...kind of "cheap" looking.
Hoping Apple repairs this without hassle...my MacBook is kept in it's own sleeve insde my case and has never been dropped.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Replacement battery is falling apart!!

I had my battery replaced as apart of the exchange program that took place some time ago. I noticed today that the replacement battery is falling apart. The top plate is lifting off of the battery, on the edge where the 5 power indicator lights are. The rest of the battery looks to be in fine condition, so I don't think the entire battery is in danger, but potentially it could be, if the top plate lifts off anymore. My big question is, my warranty has run out, but since this was the replacement battery that Apple gave me during the battery exchange program, should they replace this for me at no cost? If so, could someone post a link to an email address I can write to, to tell them of this problem & hopefully have it resolved? And for arguments sake, this battery is barely used. I use my laptop as a desktop, which means, I have the battery out about 98% of the time. So this wasn't caused by normal wear & tear. Please let me know what I can do, thanks!

For starters, you should not be running your MacBook with the battery removed. The battery gets very minor charge/discharge cycles while it is plugged in which helps to keep the battery exercised at least somewhat. You should make it a point to calibrate your battery however if you primarily use it plugged in... every few months or so. Your machines performance also drops significantly when run with the battery removed... and unless you are plugged into a UPS, you risk losing anything you may be working on, but haven't saved, if you have a power fluctuation. There are certain conditions during which A/C power does not supply enough current. The battery makes up for that difference. This is why the performance is designed to drop when run without the battery being installed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
There is no email to contact Apple for your problem. You should give Apple a call directly and explain your problem. Only they will be able to let you know if your battery replacement would be covered.

  • Everything is falling apart while in Africa....awesome

So I have had my MacBook since summer of 2006 and up until this August, I have had no problems. Now everything is hitting the fan. In the past two weeks the disc drive stopped reading discs. It will load them into the drive just fine, and there aren't any weird sounds, it just won't read them. Then, a chunk of plastic came off of the palm rest where the ridge on the screen meets the palm rest. It matches up perfectly with the length and depth of this ridge. Is anyone else having this problem? Oh yeah, and when I try to repair my hard drive from Disk Utility, it says there is an "underlying task error" and won't repair it. The only way to fix this problem is to start up from the disk. However, like stated above, the disc drive won't read the start up disk to fix the hard drive. And to top it all off, I am spending the semester in Zambia, where there are no Apple stores. Is there anyone that has any ideas that might possibly help my situation?! I will be sending my laptop in as soon as I set foot on American soil to take full advantage of the AppleCare Protection Plan. Thanks Apple, I love how your stuff seems to fall apart after a year!!!

Do you have AppleCare? Even if there are no Apple Stores (there are none in Slovakia, either) there might be an authorized repair center. You can look it up on the Apple website. As far as the case, it's a known problem, and if you still have AppleCare, you can have it fixed for free.

  • Hard drive failed on original Macbook. No OSX discs came with it. Now what?

I had my hard drive fail on my original Macbook and I didn't get any OSX discs when it came from Apple all those years ago. So do I try and find Tiger, the original OS, or look to upgrade to Leopard? I can't find any answers on what really to do here and I need to get it up and running because it's the first week of school and I don't have a computer (thank goodness for my iphone).
I've looked on Amazon for OSX and found some Leopard. I have 2.0Ghz with 2GB RAM in my Macbook now and will be getting a new hard drive Friday. The Leopards on there run for about $275 new. I was hoping it wouldn't be that much, but I might now have any other options.

Hi I bought 2TB WD my passport for mac but I do not know what I can delete from the original macbook air. Thank you.

That depends on what you have on the MBA...if you have videos, move the videos to the external drive.  If you have a lot of music, create a folder/library for the music and point iTunes there for the music.  If you have a lot of photos for iPhoto, make a new library on the external drive and move our photos over there and then select that library as the default library for iPhoto to use.
Those are the big files and should take a lot of the load off the internal storage.
