My osx machine cant see my new hd

Got a G4 dual processor 466mhz, i have put OSX server 10.4.7 on it and have just put an additional HD in a 300gig, the system is only seeing 128gig on initialising.
any idea
cheers
Cottie

The disk controller on older Macs can only see 128GB You could put in a modern PCI controller card, or put the disk in a FireWire case. The newer cases do not have the disk size limit. There is also a modified disk driver available to get around the size limit, but it has limitations.

  • Cant see my new data after ejb 3.0 Facade.create()

    I am adding an address using EJB 3.0 Facade.create() method. On a separate page I call another EJB 3.0 customer.getAddressCollection() method, but the collection of addresses still has the old list. It does not have the new address in there. If I log out and back in it still does not show the new address. Only when I start another session can I see the new address.
    I am using Sun App Server version 9.0.
    Is there some App Server setting or some "flush" or "commit" method I am overlooking?
    Here is the relevant code:
    // update the database using the Facade EJB
            addressFacade.create(address);
            customerMaintenanceMessage = "finished adding address";
            request.setAttribute("activity","mainPage");
            request.setAttribute("customerMaintenanceMessage",customerMaintenanceMessage);
            RequestDispatcher disp = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/CustomerMaintenance");
            disp.forward(request, response);
    //forward to the addressList page:
            Customer thisCustomer = customerFacade.find(customerId);
                List<Address> addresses = (List)thisCustomer.getAddressCollection();
                request.setAttribute("addresses",addresses);
                disp = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/AddressList.jsp");
            disp.forward(request, response);
    // Address List display JSP
            List<Address> addresses = (List) request.getAttribute("addresses");
            for (Address address : addresses){
                    //display the address...
            }

    I was able to get a working solution I added the following code right below the addressFacade.create(address) line in the update the database section:
         customer.getAddressCollection().add(newAddress);
         customerFacade.edit(customer);
    Essentially, I had to update the address, the customer addressCollection, AND update the customer entity.
    I think this is cumbersome, but maybe it is the price paid for the simplicity of EJB 3.0.

  • Time machine cant see old backups with New Macbook

    Hello, I recently migrated from an iMac to a MacBookPro6. I plugged in my externals hard drive into my Macbook and was accessing old backups from my iMac without a problem. THEN I used the hard drive to backup with time machine and now I cannot access any of my iMac files. I no longer have permissions. I no longer have the iMac. Is there any way to access these old files or retrieve permissions with my new Macbook?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks ClayG, thanks Rodrigo
    I work at a university so will take Clay's suggestion to my IT guy (he suggested I post here). Im sure it will make more sense to him than me:)
    To answer your querey, yes I can use the hard drive with my new computer, that wasnt the issue, it was only retreiving the old files.
    Thanks again to both of you for taking the time

  • How does one SUCCESSFULLY transfer Time-Machine backup to a new (larger) hard disk drive using OSX 10.5.8

    I have read a number of articles about how to transfer a complete Time-Machine backup to a new (larger) hard disk-drive.  Some of these articles are specifically for OSX10.6 users, which are not applicable to me since I am operating with OSX 10.5.8.
    However, I have tried several times to use the Disk Utility 'Restore' function, dragging my old time-machine volume into the 'Source:' box and my new volume into the 'Destination:' box.  This works, of sorts, BUT the newly created volume on the new larger hard disk-drive remains the same size as the original volume on the old Time-Machine HDD, with no apparent way of increasing the new volume's size.  So I am not really any better off:
    E.g. the total capacity of my new HDD is stated by 'Disk Utility' to be 465.8 GB, of which I'm told 228.2 GB is used for the Backups.backdb folder, but only 4.6 GB of free space is actually available.  Yet under the 'Partition' tab of 'Disk Utility' it tells me that there is still 236.4 GB of available space.
    Does anyone know how to resolve this issue without upgrading to OSX 10.6?

    First, how did you prepare your new drive?  See:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.  If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    If you plan to partition this new drive then be sure you create a larger partition for TM than your old volume.
    Next, clone your old TM volume:
    Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • I cant see any purchase history on my account after updating the software and installing itunes on a new PC.  Why have they been wiped from my account?

    My laptop died on me and I have just got a new one.  I installed itunes and updated my phone software, but now all the Apps are missing and i cant see them in my account as purchased to re-download.
    There is no purchase history when i view my account information, can anyone explain what has happened?

    If you have more than one account, you have to log in to the one that was used to purchase those apps.

  • Does time machine see a new comp the same way as a comp with new logic b

    I've been dealing with this a number of days. my computer got a new hard drive and a new logic board as well as lcd display. I can reformat and start backing up my computer, but i can't access my backups on my time machine. From posts i see there is an issue with having a logic board replaced and time machine thinks its a new computer so you have to use the terminal to type commands to get it to work with your computer again. (which i have tried unsuccessfully to do.) But on the forum I see that its not an issue for getting a new computer for you to access your time machine and migrate your information over. What is the difference if both are seen as a new machine by time machine? I have mainly some photos i would like to get off my back up. Thank goodness I have some of them backed up on dvds but there are still many on my back up that I can't get to . Thanks.

    Vivienne,
    Obviously, you have the Mac up and running again, but you are using a fresh User Account. Correct? One that is missing all of your old data (Music/Pictures/Email/Contacts, etc...)?
    What happens if you do the following:
    *Using Time Machine After Initial Launch of New Mac*
    If you have already created a User Account on the new Mac using a DIFFERENT Username and Password from the old Mac, then do the following:
    Attach the hard disk containing the previous Macs' Time Machine backups to the new computer.
    Go to Applications --> Utilities --> and launch Migration Assistant.
    At the welcome dialogue click "Continue." You may be required to enter your Admin password.
    For Migration Method choose "From a Time Machine backup or other disk".
    Select the hard disk containing the previous Time Machine backups. (Give Migration Assistant some time as it scans the disk for eligible data to migrate.)
    Now select which User Accounts you would like to migrate over.
    However, if you have already created a User Account on the new Mac using the SAME Username and Password as the old Mac, then you will need to do this:
    Create a new User Admin Account on the new Mac with a completely unique name.
    Backup any important files that have been created using the first User Account on the new Mac.
    Now, delete the first User Account you created on the new Mac - The one that is identical to the old Mac.
    Finally, use Migration Assistant as described above to move the old User Account data over from the Time Machine backups.
    *Full Backup After Restore*
    Bear in mind that in all cases Time Machine will perform a full backup after a full restore. This is normal. Time Machine will resume incremental backups after the full backup has completed. To view previous backups, Control-click or right-click the Time Machine icon in your Dock or Option-click the Time Machine menu extra and Choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks," then select your previous backup volume. You will enter Time Machine and be able to browse your previous back ups and restore files. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1338)

  • HT201250 If I wish to see the contents of my I photo in a time machine back up I am getting a 'cant see because its in a Time Machine back up so how can I be sure that I can delete some photos from my mac

    I have used Time machine back up and as I wish to delets photos on my I mac I want to confirm that I have backed up ok. However when I go into Time Machine and attempt to open I photo I get the message ' cant see becasue its in a time machine back up'.
    How do I get to see whats in the back up... any of them

    Time Machine is backup, not an archive. You should not use it to keep permanent copies of things you have deleted from your main disk. Once the original is gone, the Time Machine copy will not last forever. If you want to keep a permanent copy of a photo "offline", you must make a copy of it somewhere.

  • I cant see sinhala fonts in newer version of firefox.i have this problem since i upgrade new vesion

    like i explained in question,before i upgrade newer version of firefox.i can read sinhala(sri lankan language) words.but after i cant see.but if i use windows internet explorer i have no problems.........plz help because firefox is my favourite.

    I assume that you have installed the fonts.
    For that site you need Sandaru Normal
    *http://groups.google.com/group/sinhalacasting/web/sinhala-support
    You will have to disable downloadable fonts to make Firefox 5 use a locally installed font.<br />
    That will however effect all pages that use downloadable fonts.
    * http://www.google.com/webfonts?subset=latin Google Font Directory
    You can set the pref <b>gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

  • Outlook 2013 and exchange. Cant see new mail in subfolders.

    Hello,
    In our company we have exchange 2010 with sp3 and all clients with windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013. Problem is that clients have problem with new messages in their mailboxes. they cant see new messages in subfolders. In Outlook 2010 everything worked fine,
    and after migration to 2013 this problem started.
    For example:
    There is user mailbox. He have a lot of subfolders. All subfolders is for varies companies. So he created rules, then someone writes from  campany, mail goes to its subfolder. Problem is that then user opens Outlook in the morning, he can't see that
    new mails are arrived to those subfolders. User must open that subfolder and only then, inside that subfolder he can see unread message. But how user can know, that inside is unread mail? :) Sometimes everything works fine, and sometimes user can't see new
    mails. Then he opens OWA, all new mails is marked as unread and there is number near subfolder with unread mail count.
    And this problem repeats to all users. I updated exchange to SP3 update 6. Operating system and Outlook is up to date. Recreation of profile helps for a week or two (Or user do not notice problem), and after that user calls me again with the same problem.
    And this happens not for one user but for all. Sometimes restarting Outlook helps, after restart number with unread mail count appears near subfolder. There is no addins or other changes in Outlook. Search folder is not a solution, because there is a lot of
    subfolders, so it would be a mess.
    Can you advice me? Where can be problem? Is it global for all users who are using exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013?
    Mantas

    I tryed using search folder but this solution didnt helped. Then user opens Outlook he sees unread mail count near subfolder, and sum of unread mails in search
    folder. But somefing happens and new mails does not appear neither in search folder neither near subfolders. But then client opens subfolder there are unread mails. In OWA everytime everything is OK. So user must check in OWA is there new mails and in which
    subfolder, then he opens that subfolder in Outlook, and uhnread mail is here.
    And another thing. Now one of clients have this problem. There is no count of new mails in subfolders, outlook does not show it, but OWA shows. In rules, client created few rules, near rules in action section,
    there is icon, it looks like screwdriver and wrench, i went to propeties of those rules and removed "Stop processing more rules", and this icon disappeared. All rules updated to server, and after that, new messages counts appeared near few subfolders.
    Is it possible that somehow this message count is combined with rules? Ant what does whis screwdriver and wrench icon means?

    Try repairing your drive, and do a clone type backup.
    Check for corruption.
    Might want to create a new user account for testing after you make sure. In Tiger there was a "Finder amnesia" (for want of a better term) before changes showed up. Changes were made, but maybe not written to disk yet or updated by the Finder.
    Depending on your situation, but Leopard by default I think creates a "Downloads" folder in your home account and I always store downloads into a folder, then move them to another with all the updates, patches, installers and such for safe keeping.
    Restarting the Finder should not be necessary and points to other issues. And there is the warning "unsaved changes may be lost" I think.
    So it does sound like an issue with the Desktop and Finder which sounds like a corrupt directory. Hopefully not. One note: Disk Utility does not always find and repair all problems. Definite need for Disk Warrior. I had some issues with the Finder, no problems found by First Aid, but DW did.

  • I lost my phone had everything backed up on icloud.got my new phone,went to retrieve my photos but it duplicated a certain amount therefore used the free 5 gb of data. purchased 16gb then but cant see my old photos or old iphone on icloud account

    I lost my phone had everything backed up on icloud.
    got my new phone,went to retrieve my photos but it duplicated a certain amount therefore used the free 5 gb of data. purchased 16gb then but cant see my old photos or old iphone details  on icloud account. it only shows the certain amount that duplicated but no old phone details or old photos.
    gutted all travelling photos

    If you have a backup of your old phone, the backup should include your camera roll photos.  Restoring the backup should recover them.  This explains how to restore an iCloud backup: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.
