My "other" data is over 4 GB!

I have 4 GB of "other" data and I have been trying to figure out how to get rid of it and nothing is helping. I have deleted unused apps, cleared my cookies and data on safari, etc. I only have 1 GB left and it is getting one my nerves.
I have iOS 7.0.6 but I will be updating to 7.1 soon.(Saturday)

  • I have an iphone 4s, and it is telling me that my  "other: data is over 2 gb

i am having a problem with the other data section in my phone. its over 2 gigs, and no matter what i do, it stays that way. i've synced the device, restored the device, and all the other little tips that i found here on the forums. so, should i set it up as a new phone as the next step after restoring it once again? will that have me lose all my saved data?

Backup, then restore should sort you out. A certain amount of "other" is normal. I currently have just under 1Gb on my iPhone and a little over 2Gb on my iPad. It's not absolutely clear what goes into other, but it could include data associated with apps, email, contacts, your camera roll etc. Having restored your iPhone you could try deleting all media and all apps that don't have any data you care about. If you can export the data associated with an app and back it up independently then do so (NOT GarageBand projects if you have a PC as they cannot currently be restored) then you can remove that app too. This should get your device as lean as possible. You could then repeat the backup restore cycle before replacing your other apps and media which would hopefully result in less other being used.

  • "other" data increasing

    Hello :-)
I just erased my iPod touch to start fresh. I connected it to iTunes to finish the set up, then when it finished syncing, I noticed the "other" data went up. I synced it again to see what would happen. It went up 10MB. If I keep pressing sync after it finishes it continues to increase. I waited a few minutes, then pressed sync again and it went up by 200MB. There isn't anything on my iPod yet. Why is it doing this? This is the second time I reset it, the first time I reset it, I put 1GB of music and 1GB of apps on there, and the "other" data was over 2GB! I just synced it again and it went up by 400MB!!! It's now over 1GB on "other". I don't understand what is happening. I'm running iOS 5.1.1 ... Okay now it's on 2.5GB "other".

No it's not jailbroken I would never do that. :-( It's almost 3GB now. I can't restore it using iOS 5.1.1 IPSW I downloaded because it won't let me, I must have to go to iOS 6, but I'm waiting for the next update because there are a lot of bugs apparently.

  • How can I delete over 3GB of "other" data?

So my iPhone 5 is a 16GB (or 13.3GB I believe, thanks apple) and it says I've used 3.37GB of this mysterious "other" data.
I have been going through and reading other people's responces to similar questions, and it seems like the main conclusion is to back up my iPhone, either to iCloud or my computer, and restore it as new. I've been trying to do everything but this, because I don't want to lose the data like my contacts and notes, but I cannot back up my phone because I have used too much space to back up, and I'm not going to buy extra space just to back up my phone to delete this data. Clearly one of Apple's problems they have yet to fix, unless they are doing this to make you buy more space and they can get more money. Regardless, we all get over that flaw in their products.
Another popular responce I was getting was to go to Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies and Data and proceeding through with that. Of course, wanting to get my "other" data back down to the regular amount (under 1GB) I did clear the cookies and data, as well as cleared my history (which is right above the Clear Cookies and Data option), however I am still stuck with over 3GB of other.
In responce to almost all of these posts was something about your apps. I have three apps on my phone, and I had deleted them off my phone to try and free up space. Honestly, I don't even think I got half of a GB back from deleting the apps. I understand that my phone is now made up of photos and corrupt files. But how do these corrupt files even get created? If I can somehow stop them from being created in the future, believe me, I will do so.
I have gone and deleted my text messages and emails, since people say that the space is taken up mostly by SMS and MMS messaging, and I think that got me almost 1GB of space. I did this last night, before I plugged my phone into the computer and checked the "other" amount on iTunes. Is there an alternative to restoring my phone as new to delete this data? Can someone please tell me if there is, because I'm just getting fed up with having to constantly delete things off of my phone to open up more space.

You should be importing pictures from the camera roll to your computer on a regular basis. Even if you don't want to keep them, at the end of the import, most photo managers give you the option to delete the photos from the camera.
If you're using a PC running Windows, just plug the phone in. Open Windows Explorer. You should see the phone there, and under that, the DCIM folder where the photos are stored.
Transfer them if you want to keep them or just delete them.
There is no easy way to mass delete them on the phone itself.

  • My iPhone 4s will not back-up because it is over capacity due to a lg. amt. of "other" data.  I don't have a lot of other data however.  How can I correct this?

My iPhone 4S will not do a back-up because it is over it's capacity due to an excessive amount of "other" data.  However I actually have very little other data.  How can I correct this.  As it is now I can't even take a picture!  Thanks!

Create a manual backup in iTunes, then restore it, restoring to your iTunes backup at the end.  This will usually correct this.  If it doesn't, then the problem is contained in the backup and you'll have to save as much of your data as you can, then restore it as new without using your backupo.

  • What is "Other" data in iTunes for my iPhone?  And why is it over a GB?

In iTunes, my iPhone reports I have 1.6GB of "Other" data. It appeared immediately after I deleted and unsubscribed from a podcast (via iTunes) which had 24 large videos, and then sync'd with my iPhone (which was running out of space).
The podcasts appeared to be removed from my iPhone, however I still had no space and I saw that now I had this 1.6GB of other stuff.
I had a look around for answers on this and the default answer given is "restore your iPhone". So I did a backup and then did a restore to that backup. I don't have an earlier backup (except one that's from last year) and I really don't want to lose my app data and settings.
The restore didn't remove the 1.6GB of data.
So the question is, am I right in assuming the 1.6GB of other data is the left over podcasts that are now corrupt somehow? Or is it something else? i.e. What constitutes "other" data?
Second, any other ideas how to get rid of that other data?
    Thank
    Boz

Other that large is corrupt data. Normally, a restore from backup fixes things.
So, I discovered something new about iTunes today. The "Restore from backup" context menu option that appears when you click your iOS device in the Devices tree on the left of iTunes, is different from the "Restore" button that you get on the Summary tab for your device.
"Restore from backup" just does an restore from backup. Whereas the Restore button does a restore and then restore from backup. Make sense? Hmm.
This distinctly different functionality is not clear to the user, indeed the advice I was given above was to "Restore from backup", which in this instance is not what is needed to clear out the "Other" data.
In summary, to fix my problem I:
    - performed a complete Backup (from iOS Device context menu)
    - performed a Restore (clicked Restore button on Summary tab)
    - after device is reset with latest iOS software, chose latest backup
My other data shrank to 0.2Gb, and as an added bonus another 1.4 GB of other space was freed up from Apps and Video, even though I can't find anything missing, so I suspect there was other non-"Other" data that was cleared out by this procedure.

  • What the advantages of having an BAPI over Other data migrations

What the advantages of having an BAPI over Other data migrations

    Th advantages of BAPI
    1. Simple to use (its just an FM)
    2. Not cumbersome like bdc
where we have to record each and every screen
    sequence.
    3. SAP guarantees the consistency
    of bapi in future releases.
One of the big plusses for BAPIs is that the interface and function are not supposed to change. This is a big plus when you do upgrades or hot packs because the transaction can change (format, required inputs etc) which means you then need to update the call transaction.
Some of the BAPIs are better documented and easier to use than others.
You usually need to perform the BAPI that actually does the COMMIT after you call your BAPI.
The Program coding for calling a BAPI is usually cleaner than setting up the screen flow etc for the Call Transaction.
You don't need to worry about special data circumstances interrupting the normal data flow of the screens and causing errors because of that.
BAPIs probably have better performance since they don't do the screen flow processing.
In general if the BAPI exists for the transaction you want to perform and you can figure out how to use it the BAPI is probably the best way to go.
This is just from my experience working with both BAPI and Call Transaction. I have had some very good successes with BAPIs, but very occasionally found that I could not get the BAPI to perform the update I needed.
Refer the transaction BAPI for detail information.

    what is BAPI?
BAPI stands for Business API(Application Program Interface).
A BAPI is remotely enabled function module
ie it can be invoked from remote programs like standalone JAVA programs, web interface etc..
You can make your function module remotely enabled in attributes of Function module but
A BAPI are standard SAP function modules provided by SAP for remote access.
Also they are part of Businees Objest Repository(BOR).
BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects.
You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository)
which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA.
In this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system
in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call.
Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types.
These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types.
Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs.
Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.
The following standardized BAPIs are provided:
Reading instances of SAP business objects
GetList ( ) With the BAPI GetList you can select a range of object key values,
for example, company codes and material numbers.
The BAPI GetList() is a class method.
GetDetail() With the BAPI GetDetail() the details of an instance of a business object type are retrieved
and returned to the calling program.
The instance is identified via its key.
The BAPI GetDetail() is an instance method.
BAPIs that can create, change or delete instances of a business object type
The following BAPIs of the same object type have to be programmed
so that they can be called several times within one transaction.
For example, if, after sales order 1 has been created, a second sales order 2 is created in the same transaction,
the second BAPI call must not affect the consistency of the sales order 2.
After completing the transaction with a COMMIT WORK, both the orders are saved consistently in the database.
    Create( ) and CreateFromData! ( )
The BAPIs Create() and CreateFromData() create an instance of an SAP business object type,
for example, a purchase order. These BAPIs are class methods.
    Change( )
The BAPI Change() changes an existing instance of an SAP business object type,
for example, a purchase order. The BAPI Change () is an instance method.
Delete( ) and Undelete( ) The BAPI Delete() deletes an instance of an SAP business object type from the database
    or sets a deletion flag.
The BAPI Undelete() removes a deletion flag. These BAPIs are instance methods.
Cancel ( ) Unlike the BAPI Delete(), the BAPI Cancel() cancels an instance of a business object type.
The instance to be cancelled remains in the database and an additional instance is created
and this is the one that is actually canceled. The Cancel() BAPI is an instance method.
    Add<subobject> ( ) and Remove<subobject> ( ) The BAPI Add<subobject> adds a subobject to an existing object inst!
ance and the BAPI and Remove<subobject> removes a subobject from an object instance.
    These BAPIs are instance methods.

Java Connector(JCO) can call not only BAPI's but also the function modules which are remotely enabled..
BAPI's as i said earlier are remotely enabled function modules..
Hence, JCO can call also BAPI's(n not only BAPI's as u mentioned).
Check the following BDC over BAPI
The steps to be followed are :
    1. Find out the relevant BAPI (BAPI_SALESORDER_CHANGE for VA02).
    [for VA01 use BAPI_SALESORDER_CREATEFROMDAT2]
    2. Create a Z program and call the BAPi (same as a Funtion module call).
    2. Now, if you see this BAPi, it has
    -> Importing structures.
eg: SALESDOCUMENT: this will take the Sales order header data as input.
    -> Tables parameters:
eg: ORDER_ITEM_IN: this will take the line item data as input.
    Note :
Only specify fields that should be changed
Select these fields by entering an X in the checkboxes
Enter a U in the UPDATEFLAG field
Always specify key fields when changing the data, including in the checkboxes
The configuration is an exception here. If this needs to be changed, you need to complete it again fully.
Maintain quantities and dates in the schedule line data
    Possible UPDATEFLAGS:
    U = change
    D = delete
    I = add
    Example
    1. Delete the whole order
    2. Delete order items
    3. Change the order
    4. Change the configuration
    Notes
    1. Minimum entry:
You must enter the order number in the SALESDOCUMENT structure.
You must always enter key fields for changes.
You must always specify the update indicator in the ORDER_HEADER_INX.
    2. Commit control:
The BAPI does not run a database Commit, which means that the application must trigger the Commit
so that the changes are read to the database. To do this, use the BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT BAPI.
For further details... refer to the Function Module documentation for the BAPi.

I have an iphone 5s, When i checked for the avialable space it said i had over 3Gb of "Other" files in my iphone. I'v only had my iphone for three days, is it normal to have that much "other" data?

    Around a gig is normal.
Also, if you tend to send/receive a lost of MMS messages, that will cause other to increase.  Especially if you keep those messages.

  • My harddrive data is consumed by over 72% "Other" data.

I've looked intensively at Pondini's tips and used them to check, but nothing is clearing the "Other" data. I have no room - 87.41 out of 120.47 consumed by "Other". Macbook Air, OS X 10.7.5, 120.47 GB. The data that takes up the majority of space on my harddrive is Apps, 7.24 GB; no data store is larger than that, or even close. I have many documents, but not enough to warrent this immense amount of "Other" data. I don't use Time Machine, and I don't have any backup on this computer. I'm concerned something is wrong, at this point.

Applications -> Utilities also contains apps.
Any 3rd party application you have stored somewhere else because you dragged and dropped it from a .dmg you downloaded, is still an app.
Apps are basically directories where the name ends in .app (technically the contents of the .app named directory has to have the guts of a real applications, but Mac OS X uses a directory named .app as the convention for storing an application).
You the  Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal command:
find / -type d -iname '*.app'
to find all the .app files on your Mac
You can use a utility such as OmniDiskSweeper to find where all your storage is being used on your Mac
    <http://www.omnigroup.com/more>
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7402/omnidisksweeper>
DO NOT delete files in your Home Folder -> Library tree as there are things like your iPhone backups, your email messages, your application preferences, etc...
DO NOT delete files outside your home folder, as you may end up deleting something essential to Mac OS X, and turn your Mac into an expensive “Door Stop”.
I will point out that you will find some very large files in private -> var -> vm (these are the Mac OS X virtual memory paging files and where Mac OS X stores the copy of RAM when your Mac is put to sleep).  The page files get deleted on reboot, and the sleep image is just going to be created again when you put your Mac to sleep.
If you think you have found something to delete outside your home folder, it would be best to ask first before deleting.  There are many examples of people deleting files outside their home folder, or renaming files, or changing the ownership or permissions of files, and then their Mac stops running.  Do not be one of those people.  Ask first.

  • Posting of cancelled Invoice after posting date is over

    Hello Experts,
I am stuck up with a situation and as such seek your help.
A invoice was generated and the subsequent accounting document was also cleared. Now after the posting date was over, someone cancelled the invoice by T.code VF11 and as expected it didnt get posted .The document flow showing is as per below :
    Order - open
    Invoice - completed
    Accounting Document - Cleared
    Cancel Invoice - Open
Now, the business and their audit policies do not allow the client to cancel the invoice in back date ( within the posting period).
What are the options do we have to tackle the situation.
    Joy

The issue has been temporarily addressed by changing the posting date.
However, now the client wants us to make an ABAP development so that no user is able to cancel the invoice after posting date is over. Now for that I have the following issues. Can someone please help me out in this.
The basic process details I am following is as per below:
For Transaction Code VF11 (i.e for Cancellation of Invoice) , when the invoice number which is subject to cancellation is provided, the System should search in VBRK table for the following :-
1)The System will at first search whether the entry exists or not. If the Entry is not valid then it should give an message u201C Document xxxxx does not Existu201D.This is in line to the existing practice.
    2) If the Document number is valid then it will go to the billing date field and  will fetch the value from the VBRK table . Then it will match  whether the value fetched (i.e. this Invoice date)  is in present posting period or not. The system can find the posting period from the table V_T001B.
a.If  the  Invoice date lies in the present posting period then the system will allow the cancellation document to be saved. This is in line to the existing process.
b.If the Invoice date lies beyond the present posting period then the system will not allow to save the cancellation of the Invoice with a pop up message of u201C The Document number subject to cancellation do not lie within the present posting periodu201D .
Now We have looked both the tables, from VBRK we will get Doc# and Billing date(FKDAT) but when we select Posting Date from table T001B( Permitted Posting Periods) there is some issue.
    1.  What will be the condition for selecting records from T001B table.Since there is multiple key fields
        RRCTY (Record Type) ,
        BUKRS (Posting Period Variant) ,
        MKOAR (Account Type or Masking)
        BKONT (To Account).
So, to get unique record what will be the value of this key fields. Is there any relationship with VBRK table ?
    2.  Which field I have to consider as Posting Date or Period. Because there are many fields related to Posting period.

  • How do i get rid of the other data on my iphone 4s

I have tried restoring my iphone, but the "other" data returns and continues to take up over 1.5G of my space. I would really like to get rid of the "other" data for good.

"Other" is YOUR DATA. If you get rid of it you will lose your email messages and settings, all of your texts and iMessages, all of your system settings, etc.
"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
    email messages and attachments
    Reminders
    Notes
    Calendar entries
    Contacts
    Text messages
    MMS messages and attachments
    Genius data
    Music cover art
    Operating system settings
    Safari cache
    bookmarks
    Game Center status
    Music catalog

  • TM drive for other data too?

Can I put other data on my Time Machine FW drive as long as I don't poot it in the TM backups folder?

yes, you can. however, i would recommend against it. there are a number of situations when you might want to erase the TM drive and start over. having other data on the drive makes that tricky. It's better to make an extra partition for other data and keep the TM partition for TM only.

  • Mac won't start following change of permissions. I have started In recovery and run repair disk and reset permissions to all disks inc backups. What do I do now to get the mac up and running without loosing thousands of pics and all other data? I

The problems occurred after photoshop elements said I did not have the necessary permissions to save changes to a photo. I then allowed all to permissions to all disks, I have three external hard drives but I cannot restore from any as they all appear to have some kind of problem. I have repaired all disks in recovery mode and verified all inc mac hd. All permissions are repaired and all disks are saying repaired. So where do I go from here to get the mac back on running mavericks without loosing thousands of photos and all other data ?
Do I need to reinstall Mac OS ?
The only options I get to reinstall is mountain lion?.. I have been running the latest mavericks .?.
Do I reinstall and then update?
The external drives are not smart drives so how do I ensure I retain all my files?

your best option is to connect an external drive and reinstall OS X on that external to run the system from. then copy all your files over to the new install for safe keeping. then try doing a reinstall of Mavericks over the top of the current install on the internal drive and test.

  • Time Capsule best to dedicate for backup and usb external for other data or partition TC for dual

I have lots of video and photo and have 2TB drive on my iMAC and want to use TC for backup.
    1) Since alot of video and photo, can plug in via ethernet or "cable/usb" vs. wireless to back up my main iMAC?  Otherwise very slow via wireless and perhaps better to get Seagate Go Flex or WD and go Firewire right?
    2) I do need and like to share other data shared vs. just TC to Time Machine Backup, reading this community input, can I confirm that best practice is to let TC have as much dedicated space as possible for Backup and mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC?
    Here's my use case:
    1) Time Machine tied to TC for the 2TB via wired to main machine iMAC - I only have this 1 iMAC.
    2) Like to share data with iPhone and iPAD some pictures, etc...  so do this with USB port and see data on the shared drive via iPhone and iPAD - no need to backup - just viewing - but need wireless - how does iPhone and iPAD detect this device - do I need app or something to view shared drive stuff?
    3) Like to share and light backup for couple PC Win7 laptops just to get files back and forth or share things between family member - nothing intense - but can PC win7 laptops see the shared drive via IP setup or something like that?
Sorry for multi questions - my first iMAC so still stumbling around to see what works best for me.
    Thanks,

If I understand your question, depending on the signal strength, backing up over Wi-Fi can be rather slow.  An Ethernet connection would be much faster, particularly for the first backup, which will the the largest.  Backing up to a locally-connected disk will be faster still.
    2) I do need and like to share other data shared vs. just TC to Time Machine Backup, reading this community input, can I confirm that best practice is to let TC have as much dedicated space as possible for Backup and mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC?
I'm not sure what you mean by "mix partition to do 500GB per say for data on the TC".  It's not recommended to share the same volume for Time Machine output and other things.
need wireless - how does iPhone and iPAD detect this device - do I need app or something to view shared drive stuff?
If you mean that you need wireless to give an iPhone or iPad access to the Internet, a Time Capsule would do that.  If you want to give those devices access to content on a Time Capsule, that's still an immature technology, although things may improve with iOS 5 or updates beyond that.
    3) Like to share and light backup for couple PC Win7 laptops just to get files back and forth or share things between family member - nothing intense - but can PC win7 laptops see the shared drive via IP setup or something like that?
A WIn7 computer will be able to see files on the drive(s) of a Time Capsule.  I haven't tried that, but instructions are available.
