My own WIFI issues

New iPod touch: works on network in the Apple store.
I take it home and, after a bit of fiddling, was able to get WIFI access here. I went out for dinner, and when I came home the issues started: first, it wouldn't recognize a correct password. Next, I could connect, but couldn't get on the internet -- the 'loading' icon would keep spinning and time out.
I am on a MacBook pro, older model. How likely is the issue that I am using my MacBook itself as the router? (IE: I'm not using Airport Express base-station, and so forth?) I live in an apartment, and have the iTouch very close to the computer. Having 'interference robustness' on worked for me in the afternoon, but not now.
Thanks for your help.

I have been talking with a lot of ppl in my area who have comcast and same equipment who get 105 hardline and wifi. I'm open for any suggestions I have literally tried everything I can find and techs think. I just didn't want a gateway unit or even to rent something old or crappy compared to what I have. Sorry about the book its been a long 3 almost 4 months. i have not heard orf an X1 Gateway....  do you mean an Arris TG862G ?   Gateway devices are terrible for Wifi speeds/range....   your best bet, if you did order a TG862G is to put that device in BRIDGE mode and use your R6300 as your router....  it's what I did.

  • Still: Macbook Air 2013 Wifi Issues On Wake-Up (And Partial Solution)

I just got my new MBA 13" Mid 2013 last week (updated to Mavericks), and have been having issues with the wifi for a couple days now. Specifically, when I wake my MBA in the morning, it will have disconnected from my home wifi and will not reconnect again. It can see the wifi (and it did ask the WPA2 password after I deleted the network in preferences), but it will not connect due to a "Connection timeout".
I didn't have these issues with my old MBP 13' Early 2011 (also running Mavericks). Also, this only started after I had fully set up my MBA and replaced my MBP, that is, connected it to the external display, hard drive, etc.
Now, it turns out what I have to do is disconnect my external hard drive and reconnect to the network. What kind of architecture makes something like this even possible? And it's not just me, https://discussions.apple.com/message/23423481#23423481 had the same problem: needing to remove a USB device in order to be able to reconnect to his wifi.
This reminds me that with my old MBP, I had an issue where copying large data volumes to external drives via USB would render the wifi connection unusable. So apparently there is something about Macbook architecture that links USB and wifi.
But why does this only occur after a full night of the MBA sleeping? I guess it would have to drop the wifi for energy saving, which it doesn't do right away whenever it goes to sleep?
In any way, this is extremely frustrating. What is the deal with USB and wifi in Macbooks? I really hope Apple can fix this via a software solution, but to be honest, I don't trust them to anymore. I guess for them this is "working as intended".
    Cheers
    Nate
PS: Please, do not post any links to "troubleshooting steps I may find helpful". I do not, because they were not.

It turns out the MBA doesn't even have to go to sleep for this to happen.
Today i received a new HDD for my time machine backups, so some data transfer was necessary. I made a 600GB backup from my Mac and an external hdd I use for media files, then i started copying another 500 Gb from one external drive to another (USB to USB).
Now in the middle of this transfer (which is rather slow to begin with at around 46 MB/s) my wifi connection just went out. My iPhone, iPad and Windows PC can still connect to my router, but the Mac tells me to "move closer" to it.
It's interesting that my Mac can no longer see any other wifis besides my own, so I guess it's wifi range is somehow impeded by these USB transfers? How does that even work?
At around 50% the data transfer had come to a complete halt, so I interrupted the process. Two seconds after I had ejected AND unplugged both external drives, the MBA could "see again". All visible wifis were listed again and I could connect without problem.
Is there anyone with a similar experience? Is this a hardware defect or an architectural problem? Why have I had these USB/wifi-issues on two Macbook models spaced lmost three years apart?

  • Wifi issue w/ HP Pavilion DV6

I've owned an HP Pavilion DV6 1030us for a couple of months now.  Wifi issues didn't start showing up until a week after I purchased my laptop.  I found out that there's a problem with the motherboard and sent in my laptop to HP for a repair, but when it came back a week later, it was still in the same condition as it was when I sent it.  HP sent back a paper that confirmed that they had "repaired" my laptop, but all the problems I've had are still present.
Anyways, I'm just curious as to what I should do at this point... my warranty hasn't expired yet, so should I sent it back in for repair?  I don't want to wait another week if everything is still going to be the same... school has already started... so any suggestions?
EDIT: Sorry this is in the wrong section...

  • I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s

I have an AirPort Extreme running the latest software. I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G, my girlfriend's iPhone 4. The only devices that will connect to the network are our MacBook Pros and iPads, (1 and 2). I have reset the airport to default settings, I've restored my iPhone, I've even disabled the password. I am still unable to join my open airport extreme wifi network. PLEASE HELP!

Saying you tried everything isn't helpful. Perhaps describing in detail what you've done would allow people to better assist you.
If you're ever experiencing strange problems connecting to any wifi point you can always try resetting your network settings on your iPhone itself. This solves the majority of wifi problems.
To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear all of your saved wifi hotspots and passwords, and hopefully solve your issue.
Please try this and respond with your results.

  • Yosemite 10.10.1 update did not fix my wifi issue, did it fix yours??

The discussion about wifi issues is nothing new since Yosemite came out.  Today I installed the latest update (10.10.1) which was to help with wifi issues such as your wifi dropping.  I have tried every remedy that has been posted and nothing has worked.  I constantly have to re-connect to my wifi network while on my computer.  I guess I will sit patiently until this is resolved.  I was excited to see the new update but after downloading and installing it, I see that nothing has changed.  I have an iMac (2013) and have never had internet issues until I installed Yosemite.  I hope the update helps you but it didn't help me.

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to create a secure network on my MB air with OS X Yosemite?
    Any ideas?
In the pervious OS version when you create a network on from the WIFI icon on the top of the desktop, there are
    1) network name
    2) channel
    3) type of password
    4) key in password.
Now with OS X yosemite, there is only
    1) network name
    2) channel
When the network is created there is not IP.
I am trying to use "airserver" a third party app to help project my iPad air to my MB air.
I am trying to do this when I am conducting the class and I would like to record my lesson.
    Please advise.
My way of getting around this is to use Airport Express and create my own network that link MB air and iPad air.
But i do not want to look like a gadget guys and bring so many hardware to class... haha...
    Hope someone have an alternative.
    Cheers,
    Andy

  • IPad WiFi Issues are an Apple Problem

It seems clear many are having WiFi issues. While there are some suggestions involving changes to routers, these in general are at best temporary work arounds.
    1. Not everyone has any ability to change things about the router they connect with.
    2. The iPad is supposed to be state of the art gear. Given that, it should be able to work at least as well as a year old laptop in the same location. If it can’t, then it had a problem Apple needs to address.
    3. Not every user is a techie, so the long term solution is that Apple needs to fix the iPad to work correctly out of the box. It CANNOT require users to fiddle with routers and firmware concepts.
The best thing Apple can do now is to first admit there appears an issue here and say they plan to address it ASAP.
    Ed

I understand completely and sympathise with your frustration, however this is certainly atypical of Apple.
Bear in mind these forums are the equivalent of a hospital, and as such its full of sick people who come here to get well. Just because most people here are sick, doesn't mean everyone else outside is sick as well.
    Yes there are problems but your solutions/suggestions which overall are correct (its Apple to solve) I think you have too simplistic an approach viz;
    1. Apple cannot stick to Open Standards if routers are not kept up to date - thats not an Apple problem. the world moves on and there is no reason why the 'bleeding edge' should be held back by dead wood or out of date firmware.
    2. Agree wholeheartedy, and bear in mind the hospital analogy - 300,000 units sold on the first day and NOT 30,000 or even 3,000 people here with problems. most problems are 'how do I...'
    3. We will have to disagree here - sometimes users just have to accept they need to do things and learn. If they cannot understand how wireless works, its not entirely the manufacturers problem to teach them how to set one up.
I don't really disagree much with most of what you say, but speeches are not going to accomplish much, if anything . It just distracts us helpers from solving issues.
I do agree there is a wireless issue and I have my own views on what the problem is but jumping on a thread and shouting won't solve it so I keep it to myself.
    Thats all.

  • I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5

I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

  • Getting Kicked off of My Own WiFi Network

I've been having trouble for awhile now that I will be kicked off of my own wifi network. It will then not recognize the password (which is saved to app, 1Password) for several minutes, saying its incorrect, before finally reconnecting. I don't know what the issue is and why this is happening but I'd like to fix it. It's causing me to use data on my cell phone and have trouble working on my laptop.  Here is all of the technical information I can think to provide: MacBook Pro 2011, running Yosemite 10.10.4iPhone 6, running iOS 8.4iPad 3, running iOS 8.4Apple Airport Express, version 7.6.4 Actiontec Router MI424WRI Using a WPA2 Encrytption25/25 Mpbs Internet If anyone can help offer insight to the problem I'd appreciate it. Any questions that I need to provide more info, let me know. Thank you for your help.

The AirPort is hardwired. I have a cable running from it to the Actiontec. I use the AirPort for a few reasons: • I live in a duplex and the FiOS had to be installed in the basement (which I don't have access to).• The FiOS is wired up thru the floor and behind my TV, so I've had trouble keeping a signal without the AirPort.  The AirPort does have a different password, but it is also saved to 1Password, so the system should have no trouble with finding it. I've also configured the IP. I just don't get why it randomly, intermittently will disconnect. It's mainly at night too.  As far as I thought, I have to have the wifi on for the Actiontec. It's wired to my TV thru the HDMI for the FiOS connection.

  • Mountain Lion and Lion wifi issues

Don't start on me about there being multiple threads on that subject already.  I was told by a very respected member of these forums to start my own thread on the issue.
Dropping wifi started with Lion and for the last 10 months with ML.  I've been in touch with Apple, they called me after reading my old post and had me run test for them with no help.  I've done completely clean installs on newly reformatted hard drive and using a USB drive to install ML.  It won't connect to wifi to finish install half the time so other software isn't the issue.
I've tried just about every fix posted.  A lot of them with Apple on the phone.  I've replaced my router knowing that wouldn't fix it because I take my Mac with me and it drops wifi on any router or network.
I have 2 Macs and only one has ever had this issue.
You don't have to believe I've tried everything, that I've had Apple call me or that I even have the issue.
I've been asked to post the names of the engineers that have contacted me.  Why would you need to know that in order to believe me, especially if you admit to not knowing any.
All I want to know is there a fix?  Yes/No
Remember it doesn't want to connect on a clean install.
    P.S.:
For all those looking for reason's not to help me, my dog is yawning in the picture not growling.  Yes I've gotten mad on other threads but how many times can you be called a liar just because their fixes didn't work for me or I won't post engineers names.

    Thanks for that list.
Out of all you posted I tried everything with Apple on the phone.
I'm the only one who uses this Mac and I constantly check my settings incase something was changed on it's own because of some app.  But I'll lock it after retrying everything over again.
I'll be glad to get it down to once every few days again. I haven't complaned about it in a long time because I could live with that.  That's where I was before it went back to dropping constantly. Lets face it once a day would be great.  I've had to reboot just trying to reply.
I've started taking some live on line courses so it's not just an announce to me.  It started again before I started classes.
The 10.8.3 update made it worse.  But not enough to go back to 10.8.2.
My mail program is affected the worst.  When wifi drops and Mail is running I always have to force quit.  I know that's an affect no the cause.
I do have another Genius Bar appointment for that and a couple of other issues.  The first time they denied there were any wifi issues until I gave them the names of the engineers that called me with their email addresses and phone numbers.  I've since lost their phone numbers but still have their email addresses.  I know one was a CA area code and the Main one was from TX.  I have emailed them this week but still no reply.
Like I said once it went down to dropping every few days I didn't care any more.
I'll keep you up to date.

  • Any fix for wifi issues with ios8?

Just submitting another questions asking for help with IOS8 wifi issues. Nobody from Apple has commented or acknowledged any issues with wifi, so we, the users, are left to fend for ourselves.
My specific issue is that 5GHz Wireless N seems to have incredibly short range, and 2.4GHZ Wireless N cuts out after about 3 seconds of use. I have tried all of the fixes described in every post I can find. I've deleted network settings, I've completely wiped the phone and started from scratch, I've done everything possible.
Now that wifi doesn't work with IOS8 I can no longer use my iPhone 5 with AirPlay our any of my other devices in my home. The fact that Apple has refused to say anything about the problem, and the fact that they are blocking users from rolling back shows a level of arrogance that's absolutely amazing. Thankfully this is all happening before I bought an iPhone6, which I'm now seriously considering avoiding if this experience is any indication of Apple's commitment to quality.
Are there any other tricks out there to get 2.4Ghz working? I know that we, the poor users of Apple products, are on our own, so I'm hoping that someone can help.

I got iPhone 6 IOS8 [ not updated ] for a few months now worked fine until now WiFi not working  in my home tried reset , turning off phone , nothing worked , Got it to work by unplugging the router WiFi Box unit for a few seconds  ! works like a charm now , Super fast

  • When will the wifi issue be resolved for iphone5 ?!?!

OK, i tried to read through & understand all the posts in the '5 page thread regarding WIFI issues for iphone5' but as alot of it doesn't relate to me I'm going to take a stab and see if anyone can help before i sell this **** phone on craigslist and go with a Samsung.
My partner and I have been surfing a wifi connection from our apartment building for a year now (at the start we had our own with a good router and all but it actually didn't even work as well) And it works great! ....well considering it's free, it's pretty **** good. >> Up until a few days ago my 1 month old iphone5 doesn't pick up the WiFi (boyfriend's samsung does no problem, same with our macbook). Now had i not read all the other issues about the wifi for iphone5, iOS 6, etc I would just go sign up for my own internet and pay the fees like a good citizen but now I'm not convinced that will even solve the problem.
Is there anything I can do to resolve this? I've already tried:
    >Reset Network Settings
    >Restore Settings
    >Restore iphone
Or do i give up on Apple and switch over to a Samsung like my boyfriend?
    Thanks,

Question, have you been stealing somebody elses internet or does your apartment complex provide a communal network for residents?
In terms of wifi there should have been sufficient steps provided in the numerous threads you read but I'll gladly provide you with an article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Other then that you could take the iPhone into Apple to have it evaluated.

  • I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint.  I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues.  Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?

I am aware that Sprint has network issues. I have learned that Apple does have reception issues with the 4s.  The 5 series has more antenna area and a different protocol. I have owned at least 6 iPhones personally and over 30 as a company.  The 4s is junk. Apple's attitude toward customer service is much more of a problem than Sprint's network.  Apple sent me your non-answer to my questions instead of anything real. I asked about the iPhone, not about Sprint.

  • IOS 8 WIFI ISSUES  5ghz airplay related! the real workaround here

Ever since upgrading to IOS 8, including IOS 8.01, 8.02 and 8.1 I had the wellknown Wifi issue. wifi speeds dropping from 120mbps to about 2mbps @ 5ghz in within a minute after connecting to the wifinetwork. often i couldn't even surf at all. but the wifi signal was always strong. With every update i was hoping for a solution from Apple but it never came. Tried everything that can be found on the internet. Resetting the network settings. Disabling "wifi networking" under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. Reinstalling my Ipad from scratch Used different routers and different setups. Automatic ip's and fixed ip's and different dns servers just to be sure. Nothing worked. The only workaround is switching to a 2.4Ghz network. So i was doing some tests and found THE solution, but i don't like it all. One of the biggest changes in IOS 8 is the ability to use airplay without a network. by using a wifi connection in combination with bluetooth. And here lies the problem. I disconnected al my Airplaydevices from my network. Denon AV-amplifier AVR2113, Pioneer wireless speaker XW SMA3 and an airport express. Et voila... My Ipad is back to normal. fast... no very fast internet connection and stable as ****. Just like iOS 7 was. Working with it for a couple of hours now without any trouble at all. But do i connect one Airplay device to the network the wifi is not stable anymore and extremely slow again on my ipad air. My Macbook running mac os x mavericks doesn't have these issues, neither does my iphone 5S. and they are also on the same 5ghz network. So I can create and recreate the issue and create a work around... Apple please come with a solution that makes me able to use airplay an ipad (on ios8) on a 5ghz network! like in iOS 7!!!!

I'm just going to throw something different into the mix.  Could it just be that different Wi-Fi networks may use different ISPs and each ISP will have it's own configuration settings?
For example, if you have an iPhone on Cellular Network 1 and send an email, it'll use the SMTP server for that network. If you're using your home Wi-Fi you'll have the SMTP server for your ISP in your iPhone's settings, and that's what your iPhone will use when sending an email from home. But if you're accessing a different Wi-Fi network somewhere and it's using a different ISP, then it'll have a different SMTP server. So, sending an email for example won't work unless you turn off Wi-Fi and force your iPhone to use your Cellular Network instead (because it'll have the SMTP server for that network).
Now, the example above is specific to email, but I'm just trying to think outside the square a little compared to the other responses here.
Hope this helps you progress to a solution.
    Joe.

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

  • WiFi issues with iPhone 4S & ios 6 update

    Okay here is my issue...
I've been reading alot of issues that people have with connecting to WiFi with their new iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or other devices but I have no trouble connecting to WiFi at all. My problem is that WiFi wont 'work'. The WiFi I'm hooked up to at home doesn't let me do basically anything that requires internet.
I can get on the Facebook app fine and my newsfeed loads but I can't see Facebook notifications, upload photos or videos, read inboxes, look at photos, its very slow etc.
I can't get into the App Store or iTunes at all. It says it 'Cannot Connect to iTunes Store' when I try.
I can't upload photos onto Instagram
Currently I'm into the Simpsons Tapped Out game and I can't go onto it at all.
And there are a few other minor issues I am having.
All these things I can do with my Telstra 3G network however and it ***** because I want to use and do all these things but I have to use my 3G and I've just recently gone over my data monthly usage and been charged extra which I'm not happy about.
So is anyone else having these issues or is it just me and I'm stuffed? I'd REALLY love some help.
I've been lost with what to do because as some are having WiFi issues as well, mine isnt the same and it's hard to find answers or just other discussions.
    Please Help!
    Thankyou.

I am having the same issue since updating to iOS 6.  It has been noticeable on my iPhone 4S and a little less noticeable on my iPad 3 but I think it is happening on the iPad too.  Very annoying problem.  One way to get it to work better is to re-boot your phone.  It will work for awhile then and then eventually not be working anymore and you will need to re-boot again.
Just to be clear with everyone - the iPhone looks like it is connected to the wireless, it gets an IP address but can't transmit any data.  Device:  iPhone 4S, OS:  iOS6
