My Pages 09 document has circles with a diagonal line through it

My Pages 09 document has circles with a diagonal line through it (like a Do Not symbol) scattered across 14 pages. They appear to be dimmed and I can't select or click on them.  I think they might be related to previous figures or text boxes that I have since deleted.  Any advice about how to remove them?
Thanks
JT

what should i do? computer mac book pro 17 inch not starting up. circle with a line though it.

I would suggest you do the following to see if this solves the prblem.  If not, your hard drive may have failed.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
    Hope this helps

  • IMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, Lion and dead HD? all I get is "Gray Screen w/wirlie gig" but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don't go. Is this a DEAD HD?

I have a iMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, and was running Mac OS X 10.6.8. My 500 GB WD5000AAKS was about 90% full. I had an issue with the admin password, it would not accept any of my known passwords. I ran for a while on the fingerprint reader I had, we have two users on the machine in our home. I tried many attempts to fix this problem without success I came up with a plan. That plan was a new HD, used a 2TB Samsung. plan worked like a charm. Installed a 4 GB Ram Chip and the new Samsung, formatted it, loaded Snow Leopard, and loaded what was on my Time Machine backup all was good.
This was early July, then Lion was available I was happy with what I had, I had 1.450 TB of free space. So, what the heck, lets spring for Lion, that even went well for a not even 2 weeks, enough that I had several Time Machine backups.
Then monitor goes flash, flash then I try a re-boot same gray screen with whirlie gig that I had when the the HD in my MacBook Pro died. Put the old 500 GB WD back in and all was fine, ran for a day. It was OK except back to no password and full. Went down to my local computer shops here in Rayong Thailand and sprung for a New 2 TB WDXXX, put that in, used my Snow Leopard disk to format and load OS X 10.6.8. I though that all was good, the load from Time Machine was slow and the time remaining was changing all the time, took about 3 hrs for about 300 MB that where on the LaCie.
Now I have a password issue, however it asks for a password reset that it will NOT take and I don’t even get that now. All I get is the infamous “Gray Screen w/wirlie gig” but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don’t go. Is this a DEAD HD? I plan to re-install the old 500GB just to systems check and if all is well I will take the “NEW” 2 TB WD back for replacement. I am thinking that I should put the new HD in and format and load Snow Leopard then up date to Lion then do my Time Machine backup. The only problem is does the circle with the diagonal line mean something more? If so how does one recover Lion with no disk if that is what I need to do. Yes, I have tried control “R” on boot, nadda, no response, “mai dee” no good. Ideas, please.

I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard.  It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion.  The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot.  Had the constant spinner on a grey screen..  did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck.  Crashed my system one too many times.  I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac.  I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive.  I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control.  Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh?  I use the hot corners anyhow.  As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow.  I don't like the new Mail either..
As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

  • My ibook does not show the apple icon, just a circle with a diagonal line thru it

My laptop will not turn on.  Just lighted up with a circle and a "no" diagonal across the circle.  And the
constant 'booting in' icon spinning around and around.  Why will it not turn on???

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    Which laptop do you have?
If it's an iBook, you can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
Which version of the OS is installed?
Has the laptop ever started up for you?

  • 10.6.8 software update won't reboot. It replaces the Apple logo with a circle with a diagonal line though it. What's the best course of action from here?

I used software update last night and my iMac didn't restart afterwards. I spun the little "dashed" wheel for a bit and then replaced the Apple Logo with a slashed circle symbol. I"ve tried several fixes without success and would like to know what my best approach might be.
I've tried to boot into single user mode but that failed the same as above. I've tried disk verify and repair permissions using Disk Utility, again without success in fixing the problem.

    com.apple.iokiast.IOUSBMassStorageClass
is a Apple kext file and likely necessary.
What you can do is backup your Users folders to another external drive (not TimeMachine) first so you have your files outside of TM. Disconnect this drive for safety reasons.
Then hold c and boot off the OS X 10.6 installer disk and simply reinstall OS X on top of the installed version, then use the 10.6.8 Combo Update here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
That should replace the troubled kext file with a fresh version.
This shouldn't bother your files or third party programs unless they have kext files or other "hooks" into OS X, if these programs fail, then just reinstall them from fresh sources and/or update to reinstall their missing parts.
Consider cloning your boot drive to a external HFS+ journaled formatted drive with Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • What's with the diagonal line through Finder's video preview thumbnail?

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, and while I really like the ability to play video files right from the icon in Finder, the thumbnail icon and subsequent video is split diagonally by a line.  The video quality on the upper left portion looks to be the original, and the part to the lower right looks like it has increased contrast (see attached image—look in face and also the wall on the lower left to see what I'm talking about).
This question has been asked on the iPad forum without a satisfactory answer.  It appears that it may just be a "stylistic" thing with Finder, but I just like to know these things definitively!  Thanks for any input you have!

The effect is a visual effect applied to icons and previews, to give the illusion that you are watching a screen-within-a-screen. It's the same visual effect that's applied to icons in iOS if the developer doesn't specify that it shouldn't (and, in OS X, I believe the developer has the option to do this too when they make a QuickLook plugin for Finder). The effect in only applied to previews, never to opening / viewing the item in an application.

Suddenly I can't move files to trash, whe I try to drag them to it there is a cirle with a diagonal line across. HELP!

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Pictures disappear with a diagonal line

I only work on raw files. Sometimes when I make any change, pictures disappear and you can only see colored points with a diagonal line along the image. When I make another little change my picture newly appears. Is it due to insufficient ram? Thank you.

You can delete the program off your computer, you cant run it.
Contact the developer, perhaps they have made a Intel processor one.
If you need to run this program, if you can reinstall it back into Snow Leopard, you can revert the machine back to 10.6.8 and install it again.

  • Pages: My document has dissapeared?

    Hi Everyone,
I have an iPad Air and use Pages to create documents on it and then sign into icloud.com and edit it on a PC.
The problem: One of my documents has dissapeared from my pages and I'm wondering if theres any way to retrieve it? It doesnt show on either the iPad or iCloud.com.... any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Nathan

Well, you've told us next to nothing (e.g., what application you were running, what version of OS X you are running, whether you closed the app when you saved the document, etc.).
With this very limited information, I would suggest trying Spotlight (magnifying glass in upper right corner of screen).  Type in the name of the document and see what turns up.

  • Iphoto '08 has circle with left slash over its icon

I tried to import or copy (tried both) an image to iphoto to my library, then all of a sudden the fan became extremely loud and the bottom of the laptop heated up quickly. I had to force quit and let the laptop cool off. Today, iphoto has the circle with a left slash over its icon. I dbl click and a message says it can't be launched. I can't figure out how to re-install iphoto as well as what I did to mess it up. Anyone can help me out?? Thanks ahead of time.

Try using Pacifist to extract iPhoto from the iLife disk or your computer's original disks.

  • White circle with a diagonal stripe

    After this last round of updates my two computors (intel and PPC) are playing up. Each computor has an ext hard drive one usb the other fw. The computors use airport to connect. Here's my problem;
I wanted to compile a cd from some of my one hit wonder cd's. When I inserted a cd and tried to drag a file to the ext hd to copy I got the white circle with diagonal preventing me from doing it. It may be a coincidence but I was dragging music files to the ext without a problem before the update. It's not just music files, it's any file.
    I've repaired permissions
    I've logged out/in
I've created a new account, all with no luck.
At this time I don't wish to reinstall, the problem is on two computors!
Can anyone tell what causes the white circle and how to get rid of it?
    Thanks

answers to your questions: yes, yes, yes. The name of the disk in question is very long.
    Malcolm
I think we are getting close.
relaunching the finder by "Option click on its icon in the dock" did nothing to the screen so I relaunched by "cmdoptionesc", it had some good results.
I had no previous problems copying tracks to the ext HD until I inserted a CD with a long name. The name has 56 letters/commas/brackets and including the spaces is 70 things long. I won't use the actual name but it looks like this:
Aaaa Aaaa Aaa Aaaaa Aaaaa Aa Aaaa A Aaaa, Aaa. 1 (A Aaaa Aaaaaa Aaaa)
Once I insert that disc, I can not copy anything. When I remove it, I still can not copy anything. It's like the ext HD/CD are locked!
With no disc inserted and I relaunch the finder after deleting "com.apple.recentitems.plist" I have success and can copy from ext HD to internal HD.
Inserting a CD with a short name I can copy tracks to either internal/ext HD.
Inserting the long name CD brings back the problem.
I didn't think that the mac had a problem with long names?
Can you tell me what to do next?
    Thanks
