My Passport (WD) Not Working
I have a My Passport WD that I bought at the Apple Store and it has been working great for a few months now but today it isn't. I plug it into my computer and wait it lights up and buzzes but isn't showing up on my computer/desktop. (so therefore time capsule isn't working anymore and I can't back up my computer) I don't know what to do. I've tried everything from rebooting my computer to plugging it into a different computer to changing settings, etc. HELP
Everything that you are telling us indicates that you have a defective WD hard drive. Please contact the WD support folks to let them know that you need a replacement.

Windows 7 Prof. decryption on an external hard drive (WD My Passport) DOES NOT WORK
I cannot decrypt files and subfolders of a top folder on a WD My Passport hard drive using the "advanced attributes" of folder "properties". (The "advanced attributes" of folder "properties" works
on the internal hard drive.)
I can decrypt a file individually on the WD My Passport hard drive using "advanced attributes" of folder "properties". However when I try to use "apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option, the
decryption DOES NOT WORK on files and subfolders. (The system does not generate any error message just runs through the items and leaves files and subfolders in an encrypted state.)
Is there another way to decrypt files and subfolders of a top folder?I am having this same issue... it seems all my files have been encrypted and I am the original owner of them! Have you found a solution to this problem?

Usb WD passport 250gb not working of late
Several months ago I purchased a Western Digital WD Passport portable hard drive for my macbook (1st generation). It operated flawlessly until about two months ago, when it would not mount or be recognized. I plug it into my USB port and the lights come on and the hard drive spins, but nothing happens on screen and the disk utility does not see it. I tried on a brand new macbook today and same problem.
You tried in on a different MacBook with the same results? It's likely to be a bad HD (even though it's spinning). If it were me I'd contact Western Digital and see what they say. I had one of their drives go bad on me and they handled it great.
It seems like since HD's capacity is getting larger and larger their failure rate is getting larger and larger too. -

I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Passport not working with Fido SIM
I received yesterday my new BB Passport (directly from BlacBerry). I was excited, however it is frustrating now. My passport is not detecting Fido mobile network. I did lots of troubleshooting with Fido on the phone but nothing worked. I tried the SIM on an IPhone 5 and it worked. Clearly, the problem is the Blackberry device. Now since I bought it directly from BB; only BB can fix the problem. However, no phone support is available from BB. I have to ship back to them. It is frustrating. The WiFi interface is working fine
ASSo, I just got off a long call with blackberry at this phone number: 877-644-8405.
I was also provided another phone number by that agent which is more specific to the passport: 877-255-2377
They have confirmed for me that this issue is the fault of blackberry, not fido.
They have confirmed that they are currently 'working on it' with 'no estimated time of completion'
So, that isn't really a good deal. Its to the point where I have to look at porting my number to a different provider whose sim card is actually recognized without issues by the bb passport. Needless to say, this is a huge hassle for me on a phone that I purchased outright for $700.
The good news is that when the issue is resolved, blackberry withh use a push notification to send the updated firmware for the device, and this will resolve the issue. So, if you can live without your phone until the fix is completed, then you're golden. -
Headphones not working at all on Passport
The headphones worked when I first got my Passport (the headphones that come with it). However, after about 2 months, the headphones stopped working, seemingly for no reason.
I tried some Apple iPod headphones, and they're not working, either.
It's really irritating trying to use the Passport in the office, when I have to have the phone up to my ear constantly, or use speakerphone (which is irritating to the other end of the conversation).
I've got numerous problems with the Passport that I didn't have with the Z10. Expect more bug postings in the forums. There are a number of factors here...
The operating software in the phone is not detecting the earphone connection.
The jack that is used for the earphone became defective.
The earphone being tried is either defective or not compatible to the phone.
As for the earphone, try a universal type rated to work with BlackBerry, or another original BlackBerry earphone. You can verify your earphone by trying it on another phone that you know is working okay.
Before determining if the earphone jack itself has become defective the only way to know if it is a software issue will be a task. Re-install the operating system. I realize this is drastic, but it can clear a lot of problems.
Use the BlackBerry Link software to make a full backup of the phone. Then using the Link software you can re-install the operating system. After re-installing and before re-loading from the backup image; test the earphone connection to see if it works.
If the earphone connection still does not work you would have to send the phone to BlackBerry service to have it fixed. There is no point to restore your backup image to the phone if you are going to send it for service.
They most likely will have to change the circuit board that drives the earphone. The fault can be either the jack itself or the circuits that drive the signal to the jack. If the phone is still under warranty there should not be any cost to service it. When you get the phone back from service you can then restore the backup image to it.
NOTE:
If the phone is defective it would be a proper process to have it serviced. Personally, my preference is to use BlueTooth. This is wireless and makes no stress on the phone's hardware. Sometimes the earphone wire gets abruptly or strongly pulled on at an angle and the user does not notice this. If the wire is pulled at an angle very hard and the wire does not tare it is possible to damage the jack. This is not very common but does happen at times. With using BlueTooth this cannot happen since it is wireless.

WD Passport HD (60GB) Not Working
I bought one of the small Western Digital Passport Portable Hard Drives, I think it is 60GB. It is USB powered and does not mount at all from one of my USB drives, and it mounts about half of the time on the other USB drive. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems with one of these things or if you had any suggestions or possible explanations. Thanks a lot.
Actually, these drives are a bit different in their power management. They require more power than the older USB drives. If you read the fine print in the packaging you will find that you may need to get a special cable that has a splitter built in so that you can plug the drive into two USB ports simultaneously. I found the drive not to be worth the effort. I still use a Firewire portable in a case that is 4 years old from MCE.
I have a MBP 17 inch and the Passport was ok with that unit, but it would not work on the older G4 powerbook 17. I know simpletech has a similar looking drive to the Passport. I am not sure if they have the same problem with the USB power.
One other thing you can do with the Passport is to buy an external power adapter and plug it in. WD has this as an accessory. It does defeat the idea of really being mobile though.
Good luck. -

Mailto not working in FF 5 & 6
Mialto: would not work in FF 5, then it updated to FF 6 and still no worky? Boo hoo! Trying to send to Gmail by the way. Oh yeah and why won't my Google toolbar work too?
If you can figure out how to upload your newest DNG to Dropbox I may be able to help you analyze what is wrong, otherwise, I can only guess from what you've said. A partial substitute for uploading the DNG would be to post a screenshot of what it looks like as you did, originally so at least a judgment can be made about whether it is shot correctly or not.
The DNG you linked from Dropbox gives me a reasonable error message, yet it seemed to give you something else. This is what I don't understand, unless you're using the older CCPP app, rather than the slightly newer one, so first, make sure you've downloaded the 2010 version of the software and the 2011 version of the plug-in that interfaces with the software, in case what you've installed from the disk is the original version.
One of these links appears to be just the plug-in and one has both the software and the plug-in as separate items. I assume the plug-in is the same for both but I'm including both links just in case one is newer. Since the one that is just the plug-in mentions Windows 8, I assume it is the most up-to-date.
ColorChecker Passport Adobe® Lightroom® Plug-In N/A
X-Rite ColorChecker Passport – X-Rite Photo – X-Rite Passport
Secondly, if you still have them try profiling the original NEFs instead of the DNGs.
Thirdly, if you must make DNGs, it can matter what the Compatibility Level is and try an older one, since the CCPP software hasn't been updated in several years. This doesn't seem to matter for some cameras but it does for others. -

USB working, not working, working?
Hello,
i own a 2008 Mac Pro and have some problems with my USB Ports. I tried to find information on the internet but i was not able to solve the problem. I did everything from smc Reset to Parameter Ram Reset, Installing a New System, Reinstalling the Combo Update but nothing worked at long sight.
The trouble is, that some external USB Devices do not work on some of my USB Ports at my MAC Pro. Yesterday for example my original Apple Keyboard which was attached to the USB Hub at my DELL Screen stopped working while other devices still did their work. I plugged off all devices and tried different USB Ports and got the Keyboard to work on another port but afterwards my mouse did not work any more. The same problem occurs with my external WD passport USB Drive, my Iomega REV Drive and any other device. Some USB Ports work, some do not work. Some only work when they want to. The external WD USB drive used to be plugged into the front USB ports, where it worked perfectly until some months ago. I had to use another USB Port to get it to work but it also stopped working with the HDD some time later. Both of the Ports still work with my Ipod or Iphone but not with the HDD or other devices. I also tried to use a powered USB Hub which did not solve the problem on long sight. After setting a brand new leopard system, the WD HDD worked on one of the front usb ports but stopped doing so some time later.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I am really desperate and annoyed ... i do not understand why this expensive machine does not work as it should.
Thanks and best regards,
tmI have an IMac (intel) and I am having the same problem. Since i updated the bluetooth firmware my bluetooth and usb ports do not work. Any clue?

Access point not work correctly
Hello everybody, I have a problem in my BlackBerry Passport. I can't turn on "access point" function, this function not work. Does this function work in the future OS updates?
P.S access point give your internet from the mobile network to your WiFiHotspot does work on all versions of BlackBerry 10 OS and all BB10 models. It is, however, controlled by your carrier. If it won't turn on you have one of several possible problems:
1) Your mobile data is off or not working.
2) You need to have Hotspot provisioned on your account by your carrier. -
Finder not working... I'm getting annoyed at Apple.
Hi. Long time Apple Fan, 5 years now, heavy computer user for 15 years.
I recently installed a Brother Fax/Scan/Copy machine on my iMac with Leopard. The software that comes with it gives me the option to scan into PDF in one small step. Easy. I love it. However, the software is weak in that it doesn't clearly show where the pdf's are by default saved. I've solved that problem for the Black and White scans, but for the color scans, because I do them so rarely, I've not taken the time to figure it out.
So last night, I was scanning my Passport because I'm getting a new one soon. In the process, every time a scan completes, it opens the file in preview with the .pdf file and the default file-naming convention of CCI00001.pdf, CCI00002.pdf, and so on sequentially. Well, thinking I could easily find the files later, I just closed the Preview window thinking I'd open them later.
Well, the only way I can find these files is under the 'File>Open Recent' in Preview. Problem is, I've opened a few files with Preview since these scans, so I think, I'll just go to finder and type in the file name. Well, Finder can't find them. The ONLY way I can get to the files is through 'Open Recent' in Preview. However, some of them are no longer recent, so 'poof' they've disappeared. So I thought, well, let me click 'save as' in Preview and that would open the folder they are in. Well, it did, but it opened it in a finder window that is not the usual finder window. I.e., I can't navigate away from the folder that the 'Save as' function in Preview opens. Well, I can, but it doesn't clearly show me where that folder is that it default opened. I use the drop down arrow to open the 'advanced' finder window or whatever, but there is no 'root structure' (for lack of a better comparison that you can find in Windows) the name of the folder happens to coincide with my 'user' folder, but it doesn't have the little 'user' icon that you normally see next to your user folder in finder. It's just a normal blue folder that happens to have the same name as my user folder. So, I thought, why don't I create a new folder with a peculiar name that I can search for in finder- I called it 'Baffle Me' ... keep in mind, this is within Preview, File>Save As...> not changing the directory that it defaults to even though it's the name of my home folder or whatever, and then adding a folder called 'Baffle Me'... I saved in that folder. Logic would conclude that I could do a search within Finder now for a folder called 'Baffle Me' and wala- I'd find the folder where all my .PDF scans are. Nada. I thought, well maybe OSX needs to take time to scan it again- I'll come back tomorrow. So I did. Nada. I'm at a lost here. How can a file be on my computer and Finder not find it??
Can someone tell me how to find these scans? Did they get thrown out because I just closed the Preview window instead of saving them and they were in some sort of 'temp' directory? That doesn't make sense though, because I can still go back in 'File>Open Recent...> in Preview and find them. I'm at a loss here, and I'm really getting annoyed.
Ideas? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Command click on the filename on the preview window and it will give you the path to the file... That is also a live path, so if you click on the folder that the file is in you will be taken to where the file is. Or click on the Sidebar button on the preview window and click on the gear/wheel on the bottom and select sort by path. It will then show the path under the file name...
You should also play with spotlight to see if you can figure out why it was not working for you. I was able to find pdf's by name as well as text within them... It should've found them really easy with the file names.

Click on the hard drive icon in the sidebar and you see the 'root structure'. The mac layout is no different than Windows...
