My patience is growing thin...

so i've been having kernel panics since i've had my MBP- the 10.4.7 update cured them for a while, now in the last 2 days they've reappearred, had 3 today!! Tired safe booting, disk repairing multiple times. I had an extra 1G RAM installed by Apple in store should I check that? It shows up in system profiler and in the panic.log. I cannot thin what else is casuing it besides too many rosetta-based apps running? Please throw out all your suggestions...I am very impressed with the performance of my MBP except I don't want it panicing on me all the time.

It may be the RAM too, but it was brand new? I thought it might be something big like the logic board/Airport.
It could be either. New RAM can still be out of spec and cause kernel panics. My guess is it's the Airport-related kernel panic problem that affects a small but significant percentage of MacBook Pros.
Today I'll use my ethernet connection for a few hours and see what happens.
That's definitely a good test. Try doing that for several hours, if possible, so you can provide a good report to Apple when you talk to them. Try using Ethernet and downloading large files, even several at a time.
After that, go back on Airport and do the same. I found that my MacBook Pro would kernel panic pretty quickly if I downloaded many of the files around 100MB on Apple's downloads page, all at once. (Don't install them, of course. Just download them and throw them away afterwards.)
If you consistently get kernel panics on Airport and don't get any when using Ethernet, you can present this information to Apple and they'll know what to do. If this turns out to be your problem, they'll arrange for a logic board repair. (It might take a little prompting from you, though. It helps to be an informed customer.   ;-))
So if I took it to the store they could replace the logic board/airport card in a day? a few days?
There are no guarantees, but my logic board replacement took three business days, including the day they had DHL pick it up on my porch and the day it was returned to my door. Repairs usually take three to five business days total, but sometimes testing can make it take longer, or availability of replacement parts can delay the repair. The more information you provide to the support people you talk to, the better your chances of a quick and painless repair. (I keep logs of what I've tested, for how long, the results of the tests, and my calls to AppleCare.)

  • Late 2008-09 MacBook Pro Broken Hinge

This machine has been about as babied as a machine can be yet this week the hinge has started breaking in a corner until it's broken completey. It's so obvious that there is some glue failure. You can see it. It's like brittle ""Gorilla Glue". I took it in this monring to an Apple authorized dealer who quoted me about $600-700 for the repair, then I called Apple support and they basically said the same thing. I have aready had almost every internal drive, cable and board replaced, some TWICE due to defects (thankfully I was still under AC. My patience has grown thin.
On known design flaw issues like this, and it IS known, is there any recourse to get Apple to repair this? We have 6 Apple laptops in my family and we use them exclusively in our business, but this is leaving a really bad taste in my mouth (along with having to buy new powercords every freaking six months because the insulation breaks around the wiring).
Did I mention my patience is growing thin? My love for Apple is rapidly waning.

I have gone through the exact same problem and Apple wants me to pay MORE money for their defect...
my patience is not wearing thin... it is gone...
i bought it refurb, and as soon as i got it the track pad was messed up so i took it to an authorized seller/repair place in my town and nope... their repair was useless. i took it back again and Apple finally approved a total replacement.
so... fast forward to several months ago and the display begins creaking and making cracking sounds as i close it and getting very tight. then it finally separates from the back lid... and it got so bad i could see the insides of the display and the cheap-looking glue inside.
well, Apple wants a minimum of $310 but will probably ask for more (as i have seen estimates up in the $600 range)... but considering i spent almost $1,800 for it, and in less than 2 years it has a defect that should obviously be a recall/replacement.
all anyone has to do is go to google and type "macbook pro hinge" and they will get pages and pages... and pages of results of people all dealing with the same issue.
i've had apple's since the Apple //e, and normally Apple has the best customer service, but asking customers to pay for THEIR defective product is a huge slap in the face.
frustrated and not a happy apple customer...
my anxiety waiting for them to give me the final bill has been increasing over time... this should be comped 100%

I had to laugh when reading your post. I wasn’t laughing at you, and clearly not laughing with you. However, I do empathize and after my first experience of cashing in on my “Pro” Care investment, question whether the move to Mac was a wise one.
I have decided to continue with Apple products in hope that they are simply going through growing pains; and will recognize they are failing in certain customer service areas and will endeavor to improve. However, my patience is growing thin.
Thanks for the post, it was well done.

  • CST - escalated support role replacing 1st level only when needed?

    Hi,
I'm setting up a CST system with one 1st level CSR and 2 in the escalated role.
Per the CST doc in the KB here: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/customer-service-ticketing.html, you can't have the same person in both levels. But I want to set it up so that the person in level two can uncheck herself from that level and check herself as available in level 1 when the designated CSR is away.
    Will this cause problems?

  • Itunes 9.2 Fails to Install

Why is it that everytime that i install itunes 9.2 it falils at moving items into place I downloaded it manually off apple and still does not work and i also tryed on how to fully remove itunes but that did not work either
    Message was edited by: shadowkiller

I don't know if I should start a whole new thread, but essentially I am having the same problem. Yesterday, iTunes 9.2 began to hang while loading, and it kept bringing the whole system down. I ran disk utility, tried starting the Mac in safe mode - nothing worked. So I trashed iTunes, downloaded the standalone installer, and it just will not work. It gets about halfway through the Activation phase, and then says that the installation failed.
I've also tried unintalling iTunes completely via instructions from Apple. I've run Disk Warrior and rebuilt the desktop several times. I've trashed the installer and downloaded a fresh copy. Nothing I've tried seems to work. I've made sure that iTunes Helper process isn't running, and that it's not in my startup items. My patience is growing kind of thin. Other than wiping everything out and starting from scratch, I don't know of any other fix. I would really hate to have to start from scratch. I would really appreciate some guidance to get this problem fixed. It's extremely frustrating.

  • ITunes 9.2 Installer Won't Complete Activation Phase - Can't Install

Sorry for starting a whole new thread if I didn't need to. I am having a very similar problem as at least another user in the forum. Yesterday, iTunes 9.2 - which had been working fine - began to hang while loading, and it kept bringing the whole system down. I ran disk utility, tried starting the Mac in safe mode - nothing worked. So I trashed iTunes, downloaded the standalone installer, and it just will not work. It gets about halfway through the Activation phase, and then says that the installation failed.

Nothing I've tried seems to work. I've made sure that iTunes Helper process isn't running, and that it's not in my startup items. I even reinstalled OS 10.6.4 using the combo installer. My patience is growing kind of thin. Other than wiping everything out and starting from scratch, I don't know of any other fix. I would really hate to have to start from scratch. I would really appreciate some guidance to get this problem fixed. It's extremely frustrating.

Have exactly the same issue, old laptop stolen, bought new laptop,
imported account from time machine, library is invisible, at the botom of each section it tells you the number of films, tracks pod csts etc but there is no content.
If you look in the iTunes folder content is there... however there seems to be no upgrade file so maybe the iTunes library was not upgraded and iTUnes thinks it was....

  • Worst experience ever...I can't even.

First, let me say that I am writing this review on New Year's Eve, at 8AM. This isn't what I WANT to be doing right now, but I am so upset and frustrated that this is the only way I can think of to vent and to warn others against this experience. I don't say it lightly: this is the worst experience with customer service and tech support I have EVER had- it sounds silly, but I'm on the verge of tears; that's how frustrated I am. Nobody expects great tech support or customer service (such a thing is usually a surprise), but this was a travesty. So, here's what happened, and I'll try to be objective:
ALSO please note: While wireless capability may not be a big deal for most people, it is important for me because I don't have the option of using an ethernet cable in my home. I only have wifi.
    THE INITIAL PROBLEM:
I have a Lenovo Y510P. It was a gift for my birthday, which is on the 26th of December. This is a brand new computer, ordered directly from Lenovo. Since I got it, after orienting myself with Windows 8, I realized the Wifi kept disconnecting. The computer said it was connected to wifi, there was no "limited connectivity", but the internet was not working. Initially, it wasn't so bad, but progressively got worse (disconnecting every 5 minutes). I assumed it was a problem with the wireless router in my home, since it has been known to be faulty, and there had been a power outage a few days ago. Now I am in Colorado on vacation with my family, and I was noticing the same problem, which nobody else was having. First I looked up the problem on Google, to avoid having to spend time on the phone. This seemed to be a common problem, although there didn't seem to be definitive fixes for it. I tried one of them, and it seemed to work until the next day, when the problem arose again. Time to call tech support.
    DAY ONE:
I called tech support and was connected fairly quickly with a representative. I explained my problem, "Hi there. I have a Lenovo Y510P ideapad laptop, I just bought it, and it seems like the wireless isn't working. It keeps disconnecting after a few minutes. I've tried such-and-such which worked for a day, but now it has started again. When I run the windows troubleshooting, it seems to "fix" the problem for a few minutes."
To which he replied, "Oh, Okay, Mam. I sense you are having problems with your wireless connection, is that correct?"
A little taken aback by the scripted response, ".....Yes....you sense correctly...."
"Oh, yes, this is a very common problem with this device. It has a very simple fix but first can I have your name and number and serial number of your device?"
I gave him the name and number, but couldn't locate the serial number. Turns out on my device, there's no sticker on the bottom of the computer: finding the serial number requires removing the battery. At first, he didn't seem to believe me that there was no sticker. After about 10 minutes of convincing, and entertaining his attempt to locate the serial number by entering some command prompts (it didn't work) he said something along the lines of "That's okay, I'll just create a profile for this problem without the serial number, and just make sure you search for it for next time."
Fine. It was nice he didn't make me shut the computer off just for that. On to the solution.
I was told to go into the settings for my Intel wireless card (sorry for the lazy terminology here). Apparently, this thing has a setting where it "turns off" in order to save power, which was supposedly the root of my problem. I simply had to "uncheck" this option, and voila!
I was very happy: I spent 20 minutes on the phone, a fairly good time for customer/tech support. My wireless was working for the rest of the day. Nice feeling.
    DAY TWO:
Shame on me for believing it would be that easy. I turn on the computer, wireless works fine for a bit (maybe 20 minutes), then craps out again. Same problem. I double-check to make sure the settings I changed yesterday hadn't reverted. I call tech support again.
This guy was not as nice about the lack of serial number. Whatever. He said he had to "check to make sure I had warranty, because how can I help you if I don't know you have warranty?" I understand they need the serial number, I should have gotten it in advance, but still his attitude was a bit off-putting. I laughingly said "Well, you can trust me? I've given you all the other information, surely there's a record of it?" He didn't laugh. Oops. He then instructed me to shut down the computer, under the guise that it would fix the problem...then slyly added "...And by the way, Mam, since we are shutting down your computer perhaps now you could check and see the serial number please?"
"Ha! I figured you would say that" (I was born at night, but not last night). Fine. Nice job, tech man. We got that done. Turned the computer on. The wireless was working. He tried to pass it off as the problem being fixed, but I urged him to stay on the line, "I know it's working now but that's just the problem- I guarantee you it will shut off and I'm going to have to call back." Sure enough, it goes out again. (now, in my memory I spoke to at least 4 Tech people that day. As I review this, it occurs to me that I may be mushing two people into one, here. So it's possible I spoke to this first guy, hung up, had to call back and was connected with someone else, and it was HE whom I urged to stay on the line with me)
This is where my memory gets foggy, because I was on the phone nearly all day with these people, entertaining their various "solutions" as they tried to figure out what was going on. It was clear that the first guy I spoke to was reading from a script or following a book or something, because more than once he would stop in the middle of giving directions and say "Hold on just one moment while I check this to make sure it's correct..."
I kept hearing, "Okay, it should be fixed"- I made them stay on the line to double-check, and sure enough within 2 to 5 minutes it would no longer work.
At some point in the middle of it all, he asked me what version of Windows I had, to which I said "Windows 8.1" He  said something like "Well that might be your problem since Windows 8.1 is fairly new our drivers sometimes have problems with Windows 8.1, we are still working out all the bugs however in the future these should be fixed, etc. So perhaps we will have to go back to Windows 8, since that is usually the solution to these problems"
"Well, I mean, this device came with 8.1 installed on it."
He seemed surprised. "No, Mam, that is very odd. These devices only come installed with Windows 8, since we know this is a common problem, they come pre-installed with Windows 8. It shouldn't have Windows 8.1."
"Well, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it did..."
"Where did you purchase your device?"
"...From Lenovo. Directly from your website."
"Ah, I see. Yes. Well, I see, this is very odd you see because as I said we do not ship these devices with Windows 8.1 they only come pre-installed with Windows 8 because as I explained there are some problems with Windows 8.1 which we are....blahblahblahblah"
"But it came with....nevermind...." I dropped it. It's true, I could be mistaken. No use arguing and making a fool of myself.
There was a lot of uninstalling and re-installing drivers and software and all that stuff. At one point, he even remotely accessed my computer with some program I had to download. There was a lot of him moving the mouse in circles and clicking on things I had already done, ugh, whatever. I keep telling myself it's okay, as long as it gets done.
Then he tells me there's only one more solution: OneKey Recovery. I have to run this OneKey Recovery, and that should revert the system back to how it was when I first opened it up. All my customization, any programs or files I had, will be deleted. But this should fix the problem because it will make the computer go back to Windows 8 and then they will be able to locate the exact drivers that are causing this issue. This should work, he assures me. But if not, they can either repair the device which could take a very long time and be very tedious (their words, not mine), or they can send me a brand new device and everything should work great!!! (they really seemed to want to send me a new device at this point).
I was reluctant, especially after  having spent a couple hours making my computer work the way I want it on the first day, being told I would have to lose all that was a hard pill to swallow. I'm a curious person, so I asked this:
"Okay. So, hypothetically, let's say I was incorrect. This computer came installed with Windows 8 on it. And now it has Windows 8.1. But I haven't installed any updates until that one time just today when you were on the phone with me, and we both established that the computer was running on 8.1 before the updates. So, my question is, how did my computer that supposedly came with Windows 8 on it, get Windows 8.1 on it? How did that happen?"
"......I don't know, Mam." The FIRST honest answer all day.
"Okay. Well, look, you've been helpful I know you've done your best but I would appreciate it if you would put me on with a supervisor, or someone who might be able to answer that question for me. Because that answer doesn't really convince me that this recovery thing will be of any help."
He connects me with a supervisor. I explain everything. Then I say again, "...So, my question is: How did 8.1 get on my computer, and how do we know that this OneKey Recovery will put it back to 8. I mean, I'm looking at the system restore menu, and it only shows two items: one that took place today, and one that took place when I opened the computer on the 26th...there were no updates between them- wouldn't it show up on here?"
Supervisor answers, with the same surprised reaction at the fact that I'm pretty sure my computer came with Windows 8.1. Something like, "Well, yes, mam I understand. That is correct that these computers only come pre-installed with Windows 8 but you see there are some updates that would not show up on this list because some updates are installed in the background, you would not know these are happening which is why when you first open a new computer they can seem to be working slow because there is a lot of stuff happening in the background. If you run OneKey Recovery this will put your computer back to the way it was originally, and it will have Windows 8 on it."
"Okay, but if that's the case, then how do I make sure these updates don't happen again? If they're going on in the background, how do I stop them from happening?"
"Well I'm going to give you instructions for OneKey Recovery. And you will have to change the settings immediately after starting the computer to block automatic updates. Your computer will not download any updates at all so quickly once your computer starts up you must make sure to disable that feature to allow automatic updates."
All right. I know a little bit about computers, but not a lot. Hopefully, these guys do know a lot. And despite my reluctance, I tell myself that this supervisor gave me at least an answer, that seemed like it made sense, so who am I to tell him he's wrong? Especially when I'm not 100% sure my computer came with Windows 8.1.  I relent.
    "All right....all right, fine."
"Great. Here are your instructions for running the OneKey Recovery, and now after 24 hours we will monitor the computer and see if it is working. As we said before if not, we will be able to send you a new device, however I am certain this should fix your problem."
We hang up the phone. I run OneKey recovery.
    DAY TWO...PART TWO:
I have run OneKey Recovery and, as instructed, disabled any updating, or anything that even looks like it might allow Windows to sneakily update stuff. I'm certain I have done this correctly because as I mentioned, I'm no tech genius, but I can do that much right. As soon as I launch the computer, I check something that has been bothering me, something in System Information....
    Item
    OS Name
    Value
    Microsoft Windows 8.1
Deep breath. I connect to wireless, I open youtube up, and play a random documentary. It works for a record 30 minutes.
    My patience has worn thin.
I call Lenovo Tech Support, and a woman answers. "Hello etc, etc. how can I help you?" My brother walks in the room and has just asked me a question, "Yes" I say to him, then back to the phone "Hi there-"
"HELLO??" Yikes. "....Uh. Yes, Hi there, could I be transferred to your supervisor please?" I wanted to go straight to a supervisor this time. No more messing around.
She was reluctant, and rude. In-your-face rude, not subtle. But to be fair, I was in a bad mood, so perhaps I just heard it that way. She asked if she could have my name, I gave it to her, albeit grudgingly, along with my number. She asked my reason for calling.
"Look, could you please just transfer me to your supervisor? I understand you have to ask these questions, but I have been on the phone with tech support all day, and I hope you can understand that I  I'd rather just...bypass...this whole thing."
    "Bypass what whole thing?"
"....The whole thing where I explain the issues I'm having to you, then have you not have answers I need, then transfer me to your supervisor, and then have to explain everything to him that I've just explained to you."
"...Hm. Well, okay, I'm going to go look for my supervisor to find him, so I'm going to put you on hold."
I wait impatiently for 18 minutes with music playing in my ear before I think she has just put me on hold because I was short with and, admittedly perhaps a bit rude to her. I hang up. Let's try this again. I am in the middle of calling back when my phone rings- it is tech support calling me back. This time it is a supervisor. Okay, fair enough, mean tech girl.
I give my information and make sure this is indeed a supervisor.
"Look. I really apologize that you have to deal with me, but please understand I have been on the phone for, quite literally, hours- I mean, at least 3 hours probably, with tech support trying to figure out this issue. (I go on to explain the problem I have with the wireless, ending with the OneKey Recovery and explaining the confusion with Windows 8 vs. Windows 8.1). So, you see, now I have two problems that are bothering me. One is that this problem still has not been fixed, and the second is that for some reason your people are telling me that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that Windows 8.1 could have been on my computer, when in fact now we have just seen that indeed, it DID come with my computer. And I just- I just want to know WHERE this information is coming from and WHY there seems to be just, no solution at all to a problem that, with a Google search, one can find is NOT a problem that I alone am having!"
Kudos for this guy for keeping a fairly level head. He looks something up, then he tells me this:
"Uh, well, mam, I'm looking right here at your information, and your product, and it is showing that indeed your system has Windows 8.1"
"...What? No- no, but- Right, I mean it has 8.1 but you're saying...what?"
"My system is telling me that your product comes pre-installed with Windows 8.1"
    "You're sure?"
    "Yes."
"...So WHY then, have I been told by TWO tech support agents, one of whom was supposedly a supervisor, that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that I could have Windows 8.1 on my computer!?! When you were able to see this information, seemingly almost immediately!? I mean- I mean can you SEE who the people were that I was on the phone with because- they- I mean they TOLD me..."
"Mam I understand your frustration, we will take care of this matter but I believe there are some devices indeed that do not come with Windows 8.1 pre-installed and earlier versions of your model, however with a quick search I was able to see that your specific product does in fact come with 8.1 pre-installed on it. Why they were not able to see this information I do not know but if that is the case that you were given incorrect information we will take care of that."
"Well, it IS the case- it IS the case, so I really- yes, I mean, obviously they gave out wrong information that seems like it is very easy to find so that's- that's just- disappointing and YES, please DO inform them."
I guess I'm really showing off my crazy in this post, but I'll tell myself it's for the greater good.
We go back and forth and I'm told again that the only option is to send  a new computer, which will not have this issue. I'm upset, and a little frantic perhaps, so I give him a bit of a hard time.
"Well, look. You tell me this is your only solution, but here's the thing, not only have I been jumping through hoops all day to try and figure out a problems, including being given incorrect information, but now you're telling me, as I've been told by other agents, that your only option is to send me a new device which you SAY will not have the same problem, but here's the thing: My device IS NEW. I got it FOUR DAYS ago. It doesn't get any newer than this- so you sending me a new device in the HOPES that it doesn't have the same "defect" Isn't really a solution! Because you can't guarantee that it won't have this problem, you're just hoping it won't, but if it DOES all you're doing is stalling until the next time I call. So my problem is that you have NO SOLUTION to this problem, which, as I've said, isn't a problem that is unique to me!"
"Yes mam I understand your frustration but as I explained that is the only option, to send you a new device because we have exhausted all our options for fixing the problem that you have with your wireless. As I have said you can send in your device for repairs which will just mean they will change the wireless card which should also fix your problem but as I said this could take much longer and instead we can send you a brand new device which is much better and this device should not have this problem."
I essentially repeat myself, since two can play at that game.
He replies "I understand your concerns but as I said this is the only option we have available, so I can transfer you to our post sales department who is in charge of handling these matters and they will be able to address your concerns as I am only tech support."
    Okay, fine, pawn me off.
With relief, he gives me the number for the sales department, which I found a little suspicious since he said he was going to transfer me, but went out of his way to give me the number, "just in case we get disconnected". Less than a minute goes by as he is supposedly transferring me, when the phone hangs up. Now I know I seem paranoid, but I really think he did this on purpose. He didn't want to deal with me, so he gave me the sales number and hung up on me. To be fair, I was tired and annoyed, but if you read on you will see why I became increasingly suspicious.

    DAY TWO PART THREE:
I immediately call the sales number ( I was told (855) 253-6686, select  Option 2 then option 3). I'm put on hold. Then an automated system says "There are 17 people ahead of you. Please enter the two-digit month and two-digit day that you would like to be called back"
Huh? That's...weird. I mean- I'm fine holding. I don't...want to be called back....
With reservations, I enter in 1-2-3-0, the current date.
"Please enter the two-digit hour and two-digit minute you would like to be called back."
Now I'm paranoid. I don't want to do this. I don't know what time zone these people are in, and I don't want to enter in something, be called back a month later, and be given the excuse that "Well you entered in such-and-such, so that's when we called you" and have it blamed on a mistake that I made. I want to make sure I do this right. I'm not comfortable with it. I hang up. I call tech support. I am connected with a woman whose name is Sonia.
I give her my information, then I explain to her, "Hi...I know this is a weird request, but please bear with me. If it's possible, I was just hoping you could connect me to your sales department. I've been on the phone with tech support all day and they told me the only solution is to send me a new computer, and then they were transferring me to the department directly but it got disconnected and when I called the number it was asking me for all this information, and I know it sounds silly but I would just feel more comfortable if you could transfer me directly."
Sonia seems very kind, at least, she agrees to do so and says she will stay on the line with me. She's the only tech support person I spoke with who had mastered the art of SOUNDING sincere, and PRETENDING like she legitimately cared, you know, she seemed like a real person not reading off a script.
We're on the line for maybe 2 minutes, she pops back on to let me know she is still here, and she's going to make sure they have someone available and as soon as she is connected with someone, she will transfer the call.
5 minutes go by. She pops back on the line. "Hi there, I just checked on my computer and it seems as though the sales department has already closed."
    "What?"
"yes, I'm showing here that this department closes at such-and-such" (I can't recall the time, but it was something like 5 or 9 or something. Regular business hours.)
    I'm tired. I'm upset.
"I don't- I don't understand. I mean- I called them and they said there were 17 people ahead of me."
"Yeah, I know when I was on the line it was 18. They are open during [normal business hours]."
"That's- Look, I spoke earlier to a supervisor, he SAID he would connect me with them, and then we were disconnected- and- and now you're telling me they are closed. If that's the case I just- I don't understand why I was connected in the first place why he didn't check and NOW I'm beginning to think it was done on purpose, that he saw they were closed and rather than tell me, just hung up to avoid dealing with me because as I'm sure you can tell, I'm very frustrated and I know nobody wants to deal with an angry customer, but really now I'm- that's just- Now I'm really upset and is there anyone- anyone I can speak to, like, for complaints. You can see my case number, I don't know if you can see how many people I've spoken to today, or how long I've been on the phone..."
"Let me double check and see if we have that number for you."
She comes back after a moment and gives me the number for the corporate office and their address, located in North Carolina. I thank her. She again apologizes, and kudos to her for putting the effort in to act like a real apology, and then reminds me "The sales department will be open during [normal business hours] tomorrow, so you can call here in the morning and someone will be able to transfer you or just call them directly- do you have their number?"
We hang up. I call corporate, I leave a message with my name and number, and briefly express my dissatisfaction at the fact that I've been on the phone all day, and been lied to multiple times.
    DAY THREE
I'm ready. I call tech support, and spoke to someone named "Dexter", and asked to be transferred to the post sales department, but before doing so to please check and make sure they are open.
He assures me he will. After a minute or so he comes back on the line, and informs me,
"Yes, actually that department is closed and they will re-open on January the 2nd."
    "Excuse me?"
"They are closed until January 2nd."
"...Well, now we have a problem because I was told just last night that they would be OPEN today, during normal business hours. I mean- I've been on the phone with tech support all day yesterday, and now this is just ridiculous and surely there is SOMEONE I can speak to (I know I sound like a broken record)."
"Yes I'm very sorry to hear that however they will be closed until January 2nd for the New Year. The department is closed."
"Could you please put me on with your supervisor? I know you've done all you can, and I really appreciate it, but I just- I need to speak with someone who can help me out, here, and I don't know that there's anything you will be able to do,"
"Yes, mam you have asked me to transfer you to my supervisor however he has the same information I do and he will tell you the same thing unfortunately that department is closed. I can transfer you and tell my supervisor to escalate this issue."
"I understand that, and- yes, fine, please 'escalate' this issue, although really I don't understand why it hasn't- nevermind. Look, please just transfer me and escalate the issue and thank you."
    He does so.
"Ted" is the supervisor. Apart from the one woman earlier, he's the rudest, however again at this point I was nearly yelling, and I get how frustrating it can be to have to deal with someone as upset as I was, when he personally had nothing to do with that initial frustration.
I angrily explain what has happened, and my upset at the fact that I was told by the tech department that sales would be open today, only to be informed they were closed until the 2nd.
"Well yes mam, they are closed. It is a holiday."
"Yes, I KNOW THAT." I explained I was sorry that he had to deal with an "an angry woman yelling into the phone first thing in the morning" but that "Please understand what I have been through, and that I don't WANT to be on the phone with tech support all day during my vacation, and that I don't WANT to be on the phone first thing in the morning on New Year's Eve, but I'm trying to get things done because Lenovo keeps telling me how this is time sensitive because they won't be able to help me after a certain amount of time despite my warranty being until 2015. But surely there is SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE I can speak to to complain, or to make a record of my complaint, or SOMETHING. Just tell me you can do SOMETHING other than speak off of a script, something to indicate you are a real person who has the ability to sympathize!"
"Well, first of all mam, I'm sorry to interrupt (I was done talking anyway), however I think we are getting off track. First of all let me tell you that I am not speaking off of a script. Now you say it is first thing in the morning, however for me it is not first thing in the morning, it is actually almost midnight and yes as you say it is almost New Years-"
"Where are you located that it's almost midnight!?"
    "I am in the Philippines."
"The-? Look, look it doesn't matter- I DON'T believe I'm getting off topic and as I said, I'm AWARE it is New Year's eve, it doesn't MATTER whether it's first thing in the morning or almost midnight, the point is it is inconvenient for both of us, so I would appreciate just a little bit of HELP on your part."
"As I said I am int he Philippines and we do not have any direct access to the sales department, as I explained to you they are closed for the holiday."
"Yes, I understand THAT, but like I said I don't necessarily need to speak to sales at this point, I'm just...I'm just looking for SOMEONE who can help, or who is involved in customer relations, or SOMETHING."
"Mam, do you have the number for the sales department?"
    "...Yes."
"So why don't you call them yourself?"
"....You told me they were closed, so obviously me calling the number isn't going to do anything to help me at all, if they're closed-"
    "Exactly, Mam, they are closed."
"I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE CLOSED. THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE! You've just instructed me to call a number that you KNOW is closed that you KNOW nobody will pick up- how is that helping me AT ALL!?"
"Well as I explained we do not have any access to any other department. This is the technical department."
"You don't have ANY other numbers? You have NOBODY working ANYWHERE in ALL OF LENOVO that might help?!"
At this point, I know it's futile. I'm banging my head against a wall but I can't believe that he would be this blatantly rude to me, despite my hysteria at this point. I'm really just fishing for ANYTHING. He could have MADE UP a number, and I would have hung up and thanked him, that's how desperate I was.
    "No."
"Fine. FINE!" Then something occurs to me.
"Well, then, I have a question for you, does this number: (919) 294-2500 mean ANYTHING to you? Does it show up ANYWHERE in your records as ANYTHING?"
    "No."
"Well, I was told yesterday by someone that this was the number for the corporate headquarters, or something along those lines, so you're telling me, you're SURE you don't know this number?"
    "Yes."
"Okay, what about this address: 1009 THINKPLACE, Morrisville, NC 27560?"
"Yes mam I believe that is the address for the...Thinkplace...corporate address."
I sigh in frustration, "Fine. Thank you." I angrily and grudgingly add "Happy New Year" and "Thank you." again, then hang up.
    CONCLUSION
I feel upset, I feel ignored, I feel more frustrated with a company than I ever have in my life. Something that was supposed to be a gift to me has turned into a whole ordeal. I'm disgusted.
Sending me a replacement computer or giving my parents (who purchased the computer for me as a gift) a refund is the ABSOLUTE LEAST that Lenovo could do, after all that I have had to put up with.
I understand I sound angry, and that's because I am. My time has been completely wasted, and honestly I'm very suspicious that should I call the sales department there will be SOME excuse given as to why that offer of free replacement with no shipping costs has expired, or is no longer valid, or maybe it is but after I send it in they will find that it was actually due to user mistreatment, etc.
I've spent longer than a sane person probably should have (maybe I'm not sane?) typing in as much detail as I feel necessary my experience. I doubt Lenovo will even try to right this, but if they do manage to, then I will provide updates. Otherwise, I hope if there is anyone out there who has read this far, they will take this as the warning it is meant to be: If you're dealing with Lenovo, you'd better hope your product works. If not, don't waste your time like I have- call sales immediately and just get them to send you a new one from the start.
And finally, this is a call log from my phone. Some of the shorter times were due to disconnections and being called back, etc. especially during the remote session on the computer(time listed is United States Mountain Time zone).

  • How to sync contacts with Google Voice?

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to the Desktop Software and need a little help.  I have had my bb for over 2 years now, but I have never used the DT software for anything but a full back up do a full reset of my phone.
So he is the situation.  I just signed up for a Google Voice account and replaced my sprint voicemail with the google voicemail.  I want to add all my bb contacts to my gmail/google account but I don't want to do it manually.  To sum things up, here are my questions (the ones that I think would solve my problem, but feel free to let me know if I'm venturing down the wrong path at anytime)
    1) Is there a way to set the DT software to use Gmail/google as the application for Address Book?  Right now I'm just using the Windows 7 Contacts.
    2) If I can't use Gmail directly, is there another application that the DT software can link to that will save all the contacts as CSV files, and then I import them to Gmail that way?  I believe Windows 7 saves them as a .contact file and Gmail says the format is invalid?
    3) How do I add applications to the DT software that are available to sync the organizer data with?  Currently the only options I have are Yahoo, Windows 7 Contacts, ASCII, and a 4th that I don't remember at the moment.
The usb port on my phone is going bad, so I have to do a balancing act it the cable in order to get the computer to even recognize that the phone is connected, so I really would like to get all my contacts into my Gmail account in case I have to get a different type of phone.... My patience is running thin waiting on the new Bold LOL
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hey dcdarrencrosby,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
You will not be able to use the BlackBerry Desktop Software to synchronize your contacts from BB to Google.
However if you have a Gmail account added on the BlackBerry, there is a wireless sync option that can bring your contacts over.

  • Neboot, 10.5.2 image from OSX Tiger Server fails to new macbooks

(I apologize in advance, I looked through several threads but could not find answer
to my situation. I also apologize because I tried to get help at the Bombich forum,
but an admin marked it "solved", when in fact it isn't.
Thus I turn to the Apple faithful for help with this matter.)
Using NetRestore 3.4.3, and I'm imaging MacBook (early 2008) labs,
    with 26 MBs in them.
How I Do it: I get one MB, and using Leopard from OEM, I then patch
up to Leo 10.5.2/QT 7.4.5/Safari 3.1 and I install the elementary apps
necessary ( Kid Pix 3, Kidspiration 2, and Nystrom).
I also install Office 2004, patched up to 11.4.1, and iWorks 08.
I verify the image is correct, and then firewire connect the MB
to my Master machine, a MBP running 10.5.2 and NetRestore 3.4.3.
I then create the NetRestore image from the MB, and then create the NetInstall
nbi for the image. I then copy the items from the MBP to my imaging server,
a PPC iMac running OS X Server 10.4.11, via FW.
I then set the Netboot options in the Server, and reboot the server for good measure.
I then start hooking up the 25 MBs into a Cisco 2950 switch, which the
Server is hooked into. I then boot all machines into NetBoot ( cmd-n)
and image ( slowly) all the machines.
    The Problem:
Once the images have been created on the machines, and after reboot,
I then log into as the local admin, then set the server binding.
Once the binding is complete, I log out, and then verify the binding sticks.
I then log in as a managed user.
This is where the image "breaks". The managed user becomes locked out
of most Universal apps, and apps that should run under Rosetta,
come up with their icons changed to the "ghostbusters circle"
(Circle with line through it), and give the error " This application cannot run
due to it not being supported on this architecture".
However, if I log back in as local admin, the applications act as normal.
Also, if I log in or log out as a managed user, the system often hangs,
either at login or logout, leaving me with just the Leopard space screen,
and will sometimes force me to force quit the
system to get it to respond again.
Contacting Apple, their only suggestion was to start again, but to use SUI
from a Leopard Server Disc, which I didn't have but they were nice enough
to send to me anyway, and create the NetBoot off of that.
I decided however to give NetBoot one more try, and tried it again,
this time making sure I repaired permissions on the original image
(MB) before making the NetBoot image in NR 3.4.3.
I still recieve the same problems afterwards.
I then did a test in which I created both a second local admin account and
a local standard account, and both acted like a managed account:
apps could not be used, "ghostbuster circles" and log in/ log out hangs.
I'm hesitant to use Leopard SIU, because I read all the reports of it's slowness,
but is there something in 10.5.2 that breaks Netbooting?
I've had no problems with Tiger Images in the past, so I'm pretty sure
    i got my steps down.
    Update in my testing :
Today I decided to try and troubleshoot the image again, so this time
I took the existing MacBook I used to make the image from,
and I re-installed the problematic applications again,
as well as delete the secondary admin and the standard user
from my config, as I would add these later after the computers
    have been imaged.
I then ran fix disc permissions on the image drive, and now I am using
Net Restore 3.4.4, to remake the image andwhen done, I will re- create
    the nbi for the netinstall.
I will test out the image shortly to see if it will work.
    ok, follow-up:
after completing my new image and re-creating through NetRestore 3.4.4,
as well as new nbi's, I copied them over FireWire to my OS X Tiger .4.11 Server.
Set Netboot in Server Admin, made the Leopard image the default, restarted
    the server.
Attached a new MacBook IC2D 2.4ghz to my Cisco Switch that the Server is on,
    and attempted NetBoot.
Net Restore came on and began it's duty. 36 mins later, the image was on,
verified, and the machine was rebooting.
Upon reboot, I logged into the MacBook, as the primary admin,
and verified the UniBi apps and the PPC apps would launch correctly.
I then created the Standard account ( Student) on the machine,
and the logged out and then back in as Student to test.
All Privalges for Student were correct, and the UniBi and PPC apps functioned
    correctly.
I then logged out as Student , back in as Primary Admin ( me) and then
went to System Prefs and created the Secondary Admin (Teacher) for
    the machine.
I then logged out as Primary Admin, and then logged in as Secondary
Admin, and verified the UniBi and PPC apps would launch.
I then recieved the "This App is not supported under this architecture"
error with the UniBi and PPC apps under this secondary admin.
I logged out, and then logged back in as Primary Admin (me), and everything
still was working correctly under my account.
I then trashed the Secondary Admin ( Teacher), and created a new secondary admin
    (called simply School).
I then logged out as Primary Admin, logged in as School, and same errors
occur, "This App is not supported under this architecture"
error with the UniBi and PPC apps.
I then called one of the PPC app makers Tech Support to see if they had seen
    anything like this under Leopard.
Of course they hadn't, but after digging around, we decided to try this fix:
Logged in as Primary Admin, I did a get info on the folder of the app
    that was" breaking".
I then added the Secondary Admin to the Get Info panel and gave them
a full ride ( rw) privalges to the folder. I then told the Panel to
push them down ( propagate) to all children within the folder, including the app.
I then closed out of the Panel, logged out as admin, and then logged in
as Secondary admin. I then tested the app, and success, it launched
    perfectly!!!
So at this point, I would say there is something more to the point
problematic with Leopard .5.2 's ability to distinguish privileges
to non Leopard based apps. Apps like the iLife 08 suite, and
iWorks 08 didn't exhibt any of the problems I saw with Unibi
and PPC apps under the secondary admin account; they worked as they should.
At this point, I will add this "fix" to my list of drudgery that I do
in finalization of the machine, like setting binding to the local
OS X Server for Managed Accounts, which is next on my list to test,
as that is also problematic with these Leopard .5.2. installs.
Ok, so in part two to continue with my problems
with 10.5.2 image and using NetRestore 3.4.4:
I took the image out to test in a wide deployment.
So with my same Tiger Server having the image,
and my trusty Cisco 2950 switch,
I set up 8 Macbooks to begin the deployment.
The first four I turned on and got connected to the
Server and they began to Netboot fine.
MacBooks five through 8, I then tried to boot them up
and get them in line to begin netbooting, but after taking up to
10 minutes to connect to the server, they all came up with the following
    error:
"You do not have read privileges to the source image. Please check
the permissions on the image and try again."
The first four were still imaging just fine, the next four would just hang
    at that error message.
So I waited for one to completely finish out of the first four,
and when it did, I tried to netboot one of the second group
of four, and after 10 minutes, it connected and began it's process.
I then tried another in the second group of four, and got the same
    "privileges on image" error.
    So what gives?
Why can I only do four machines at a time? I know the image is
fine and its permissions are ok, because I can do four machines
at a time. It's when I try to do more than that then the problem
    occurs.
Is this a Leopard issue or a Net Restore 3.4.4. issue?
Well, just for grins, I put a PPC eMac onto the CISCO 2950,
and attempted a Netboot from it with the Leopard Universal image,
just to see if it would mount ( the emac is 700 mhz, so it would not
    support Leopard anyway).
It attempted Netboot, but came back with the same
"cannot read the disc image error" as seen on the
    MacBooks.
But the image worked fine on the first four MacBooks,
only when I attempted to NetBoot #5 did it cause the error.
Could trying to put on that fifth Macbook corrupted the image somehow?
    or the NBI?

While patiently waiting to see if anyone else is having my same issues,
I tried a Firewire hookup to my 10.4 server directly
of Macbooks 5 and 6, and tried a Netrestore through Firewire to the Macbooks
off the same image in my NetBootSp0's Resources/Disc Image folder,
and it restored fine to both , with only one error, that came up when it
tried to auto-restart, but I suspect that having to do with it
being unable to shut down the 10.4.11 Server more than anything else.
    So:
    1. the Image is valid, I can firewire restore from it at the server level
    no problem.
    2. It did do four MacBooks before saying it was "corrupted" and
    "Could not read the image".
    3. The Machines all boot into the Leopard NetBoot screen just fine
through the Cisco 2950 switch, and get the nbi to bring up, but
at the point it should auto run, it throws up the "corrupted" and
"Could not read the image" errors.
Unfortunately, I am under a deadline to image 540 MacBooks within the
next 30 days, and my patience is wearing thin......

  • Caller display not worked since June 2014

On 26/06/14 I reported a fault (VOL-**********) that the caller display function had stopped working following a thunderstorm in the area. According to the fault status this fault is showing as being corrected and closed on 02/07/14 when in fact the fault still exists. I tested the line using the BT test socket with a new BT2000 phone and this displayed ‘incoming call’ therefore my internal wiring is not part of the problem. I have also dialled the test code *#234# to check if the caller display service is available and confirmed that it is. I then tested the new BT2000 phone on the neighbour’s telephone line and this showed the caller ID for incoming calls, as did my other telephone as well; therefore none of the telephone handsets are at fault. Three times BT have informed me that the fault has been fixed and yet I still have no caller display. Reading through the forums it would appear that other people have encountered similar issues and that the problem is at the exchange, “An Openreach engineer discovered that the RS232 burst transferring the CLI number up the line was too weak and he then went down to the exchange to investigate. He then discovered that the fault lay in the ADSL device which lies between the analogue exchange equipment and the outgoing line”.
I’m surprised to see that BT are taking so long to trace a fault in their system last raised 5/8/2014 (VOL012-**********) and that they haven’t sent an engineer to the property or to the exchange to check the problem.
My patience is wearing thin over this problem with my Caller Display not working as it started in mid June. I’m also becoming less enthusiastic about BT and find it harder to recommend them to others.
My last message from BT, tells me that it should be back to normal on the 8 August. However, it is still not working. Their message that my phone should be back to normal now and if it isn’t report this to BT, is ridiculous. If an engineer had investigated what was causing the fault and found it, then he would have fixed it. However, either an engineer has not investigated the fault or BT is not competent in fixing their own service faults and makes these statements with crossed fingers?

An engineer called yesterday and told me that he had been asked to test the line for a voice fault not a Caller Display fault. However, his testing revealed there is no line fault, CLI signal is strong and he was happy that the new BT2000 phone (bought after the lightning strike) is working properly. (This phone had also been tested on a neighbour’s phone line where it displayed the callers number). He also found that this same BT2000 phone on my line was not displaying the Caller’s number (CLI), but couldn’t offer any reason why.
I conjectured with him that these tests must bring the problem down to a corrupted CLI signal which does not allow the phone to understand the phone number being sent.
When the lightning struck the phone line back in June, it blew the telephone connection in the back of the Sky Box with a flash and bang (telephone cable now removed from the Sky box). It shorted the Openreach Faceplate (now replaced) so that the phones and broadband stopped working and it caused the phone to light up and react as it does when a call comes through.
Now isn’t it possible that the lightning also travelled along the copper wire to the green cabinet just outside the house and damaged something there which is corrupting the CLI signal, but which does not not show up when the voice line is tested? If not, then there must be a problem further back in the infrastructure, possibly in the Exchange, that is causing a corrupted signal to be sent to my phone?
He told me that another team would have to investigate the Caller Display fault as he was instructed to look into a voice issue and as a field engineer he was not able to investigate any problem that might be in the Exchange. I don’t know whether this Exchange Team would be able to investigate a problem in the Cabinet if nothing is found in the Exchange or can that only be done by a field engineer? He told me to contact BT again as he’d done all that he had been instructed to do and they would have to instigate a fault team to further investigate the problem.
When all this is considered we have the basic problem that BT are unable to provide me with a Privacy and Caller Display Service that I have been paying for, because of a fault in their infrastructure. How much longer is it going to take before they correct the problem that’s been going on since June 2014?

  • Panasonic Plasma TV repair - Geek Squad

    Hello community -
Two years ago I splurged, and purchased a beautiful 55" Panasonic plasma TV.  I am frugal, and do not do this often, so I also decided to protect it with a 4 year Black Tie Geek Squad warranty.
Been very pleased with it, up until 20 days ago.  When, it would no longer turn on.  7 blinking red lights, were the "code".  Simple internet search showed a specific faililng component.
I called Geek Squad, who was very helpful and pleasant.  And, arranged an appointment to have it replaced.  Well, now that appointment has been cancelled for the 3rd time due to a parts delay.  It is very obvious, that 1) This is a product defect, based on the # of issues people are having  2) This part will never arrive.
I just spoke with Geek Squad again, asking that they help me with a replacement.  They quoted a 30 day period, until after which they cannot consider it.  Only after 30 days will they "start" the process.
Question for the group ---- have you had this experience too?  Have you found a way to navigate these waters?  And, once I pass 30 days what sort of expectation should I have for actually getting a replacement?
I am normally very reasonable. However, my patience is wearing thin.  And, I am VERY RELUCTANT to ever purchase from Best Buy again.  They were my go-to brick & mortal and on-line store, but I've reconsidered that.
Thanks for your perspective.  If anything, it is healthy to vent.  Because I do not expect a good outcome.

    Hello sledwith,
Thank you for visiting the forum. I'm sorry to hear you are having troubles with your Panasonic TV. I enjoy very much watching TV on our 55" screen so I can certainly understand your frustration at having to wait possibly up to a month for it to be repaired.
Using the information you provided on the forum, I was able to view the service order, and I will be looking into this further to see if I can help. Once I have further details, I will be sending you a private message. To view your private messages, please make sure you are logged into the forum, and click on the envelope in the top right hand corner.
I look forward to continuing to work with you, and I will be in contact as soon as possible. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
    Sincerely,

  • Compatibility of cs6 and cc versions

Just wondering if anyone can help as I've been going around and around on the adobe site trying to work this out and my patience is wearing thin.
I am the owner of a small business with two complete work stations running Design Premium 5.5
I have just purchased a third workstation that will be occupied a few days per week, and was initially thinking I'd upgrade to cs6 on the two machines and purchase a new cs6 edition for the third workstation. Until yesterday's announcement of the subscription focus that is.
I am not terribly interested in going across to subscription for the two workstations that currently have 5.5 on them, particularly because it was a large investment to purchase legitimate copies of the software initially and continue to upgrade them over the years.  It seems like such a waste of money.
So, I was thinking, if I were to set up the new workstation on the subscription (it seems inevitable that we are being pushed towards this), would my files from the upgraded cs6 workstations be compatible with CC, or would there be issues working back and forth between the two?
However, it seems like adobe has me backed into a corner. Originally the $2850 investment to have all workstations running on cs6 seemed like a good idea, but with the subscription announcement yesterday I'm not sure whether I'd be throwing money down the drain so to speak. Are the two versions compatible? Am I just best to throw out my perfectly fine design premium 5.5 editions and start again from scratch with the subscription?
Thanks for any insight or help you can offer.

Adobe plans to continue to support CS6 indefinitely, according to their FAQs:
Can I purchase a perpetual license for Creative Suite 6?
Yes. Adobe will continue to make Creative Suite 6 available as a perpetual software license, and will provide bug fixes and security updates as necessary. All of the CS6 suite editions and individual products continue to be available for purchase by Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) on Adobe.com as well as through select retailers. Volume licensing for these products is also available through Adobe Authorized Resellers worldwide.
For how long will Adobe continue to sell Creative Suite 6?
We plan to sell Creative Suite 6 for use on supported platforms indefinitely.

I am in a very similar situation (2 workstations running CS5.5 and trying to decide to go CS6 or CC). Probably going to see how the marketplace reacts to CC and Adobe responds over the next couple years. Initial signs (inability to access files after subscription lapses, lack of a 'buyout' option) are scaring me off from CC for now, despite the discounts offered by Adobe through August 31.

  • Video /camera flash wont work . screen freezes

ok here goes my rant! Whats the point of having a camera and video it cannot be used in dim light? The light on my playbook does not work ( and to think this was the only picture taking device I took to a very special occasion !)>
Next the screen freezes so often I have to keep restarting it and lose whatever I am working on at the moment.  To add insult to injury I am being told that I have to pay for support to get these hardware issues resolved (yes I googled it and there are hundreds of people with the same issue on their playbook)  This is clearly a design flaw. Now I am a loyal blackberry user and have been for many years but your competitors are looking very good right now RIM you better do something fix these things. I am in the market to purchase again but I will be damned if I am going to purchase from  the same company if I geat messed up again. (ps th bold just plain died black screen, now the torch panel fell off googled it and there are many others with the same issue) Do something RIM I love my blackberry products but my patience is getting thin.

You probably already realize but the pb does not have any flash or light for picture taking.
Now I've read about people using the led light on their phones to light up a scene so you could try that.
