  • Unlocked old iPhone 3GS for use with pay as you go sim in the UK on vacation. O2 sim works while ph plugged in.  Unplugged, works short time and crashes.  Sometimes won't even re-boot.  Software on phone up to date as far as 3GS goes.

I brought an old IPhone 3GS to the UK on vacation for use with sim card.  I had the phone unlocked with approval and instructions from ATT.  Store in the UK recommended O2 pay as you go sim which works as long as the phone remains plugged into the wall.  Once unplugged, it will work for a short time and then always crashes.  Sometimes it will re-boot and crash again and sometimes it will not re-boot at all.  One store told me to sync with itunes which I did on my Mac Book.  I don't know if the sim is defective or if the software of the 3GS is just not compatible with the sim when on the battery.  I have updated the software on the phone as far as it will go.  Any suggestions?  Maybe the phone is too old to use with the latest pay as you go sim cards.  I am disappointed that this phone has not been reliable as a pay as you go and I have had to purchase a UK phone here in order to have a reliable phone.

There is nothing you can do. You bought an illegally unlocked phone off Ebay. A lot of sellers there will tell you it is unlocked but the first time you try to update the operating system it will put the lock back on to the carrier the phone was originally locked to. Sorry but unless the carrier it was locked to will unlock the phone I am afraid you have a very expensive paper weight now. You should have bought it from a reputable dealer instead of ebay.

  • I am moving from London to NYC for a year, will i be able to use my iPhone over there and insert a pay as you go sim?

I wondered if anyone can advise me on whether its possible to use my iPhone in NYC by getting a pay as you go sim in the US? Do companies offer pay as you go sims over there as i wont have a credit rating.
    Thanks!

The only supported GSM carrier in the US is AT&T. They will not permit the use of pre-paid SIM cards in the iPhone.
You can sign up for monthly post paid service with them and use it just fine (assuming your existing phone is legitimately unlocked).
You can get pre-paid service with T-Mobile or any number of other regional GSM carriers, but not all features of the phone may work properly (or at all).

  • When i restore my backup from computer why do my minutes texts and data gets removed from my pay as you go sim card

when i restore my backup from computer why do my minutes texts and data gets removed from my pay as you go sim card?

As long as it's unlocked it will work with any SIM, incl. EE SIMs.
If you buy abroad you need to ensure it is compatible with UK mobile frequencies, on which I cannot advise.

  • I have just changed my sim from vodaphone to tmobile and my new sim wont work it is coming up emergency calls only, the iphone is not a vodaphone phone and as i am awhere it is a unlocked handet, can anyone give me advice pls

You will have to ask Vodafone to do it for you.
Here is a link to their online form http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/UnlockCodeRequestForm/

  • I've just bought an iPhone with a vodafone pay as you go sim. There should be a 12digit pack number for me to activate the sim and the credit. Does anyone know where i can find the code?

I have just bought an iPhone with vodafone pay as you go sim. It was meant to come with a freedom freebie credit allowance. However I need a 12digit code to activate this. There is no code on my receipt. Where would I find this?

I bought this online through the apple store. I have no one to contact but to ask the community!

  • Nokia c3 wifi problem with asda pay as you go sim

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
Bought a brand new nokia c3 on vodafone pay as you go today because I knew that  I would be able to use my Asda pay as you go sim with no problems.
Put my Asda sim straight in and everything seems to be in order except when  I try to browse the internet through my home wifi it keeps saying I need to subscribe to packet data first. No browser opens up at all.
I use the same sim with my n95 and browse through wifi with no problems.
    Am I missing something obvious?

Is your original contract SIM also an Orange SIM? If not, it could be that your premicell is SIM-locked to the original network. If this is the case you'll need to contact the operator with which you have the current contract and ask them for the network unlock code.
I'm not entirely convinced of the 3G vs. 2G argument because I have hade several really old phones (Philips fizz and Xenium 9@9, Alcatel BE4 to name but 3) that dodn't even do GPRS, only CSD, but which did accept my Orange USIM no problem.

  • Unlocked iphone 4 - can i use pay as you go sims abroad?

    hi
if i was to buy the iphone 4 from apple, as they come unlocked from there, would i be able to buy a pay as you go sim in america and use it in it, as i will be spending the summer there, and then buy another pay as you go sim and then use that instead in switzerland?

The ones sold unlocked in the uk can be used in any carrier worldwide, so I would say yes

  • I have pay as you go sim, how can I register my sim ?

I have EE pay as you go sim.how can I register my phone number ?

    You have three options available.
Speak to the upgrades and retentions department.
    Go into a EE store.
Go through a third party, like Carphone Warehouse for example.
If you know which PAYM SIM you would like, going into store would be the easiest option. You will be given a new PAYM SIM and your number will be moved from PAYG to PAYM within 24 hours. However, the only downside to this is; you can not cancel if you change your mind.
However, you can cancel within 14 days if you change your mind and you have upgraded over the phone. You will have to wait for the SIM to be delivered through the post.

  • I live in the uk , can I use a pay as you go sim in my iPhone 4S in United States

I live in the uk and have an iPhone 4S, can I use a pay as you go sim in the United States ?

    Yep.
But, the US is not like Europe...your choices are very limited, as in only one real choice: T-Mobile.

  • Best Pay As You Go sim UK

For when my iphone arrives I got o2 to send me there rext and web micro sim, which for a £10 top up gives me 300 texts, 500mb of data and the £10 left for calls. What I was wondering is, does anyone know of any pay as you go sim cards (preferably where you only have to top up £10) that will give me more data/texts?

I think this is the best deal. I would say wait until Monday when THREE may have a deal, which may be better perhaps 1gb of internet, and similar texts or more. Plus free 3 to 3 calls.
Orange has similar deal to yours but 250mb internet but with magic number and orange wednesdays!

EE don't supply vanilla PAYG SIMs these days. As soon as you get them & before you top up text STOP PACK to 150. You may have to pay for just 1 month of Pack.

  • Can I use my unlocked iphone on a pay as you go SIM card?

I recently bought an iPhone 5 unlocked on the apple store UK. I am wondering if I can use a pay as you go SIM card with a top up card. I don't want to pay anything monthly. I just want to be able to top it up. Can I use pay as you go if it is unlocked?

If the carrier you wish to use has a pay-as-you-go iPhone plan, then yes, you can. It's a matter for the carrier and not something to do with the iPhone itself, as long as it's truly unlocked.
    Regards.

  • I bought an factory unlocked iphone 3gs at the apple store today and just ordered a sim card activation kit and a 30 dollar minute card for it. the sim will work in the unlocked iphone am i correct?

i bought an factory unlocked iphone 3gs at the apple store today and just ordered a sim card activation kit and a 30 dollar minute card for it. the sim will work in the unlocked iphone am i correct? and i can use messaging on it right?

If T-Mobile in the US, while your phone will activate/work, you won't have FaceTime, MMS or 3G. T-Mobile, in the US, is not a supported iPhone carrier, thus all features of the iPhone may not be available. T-Mobile's 3G network, in the US, is not compatible with the iPhone.

  • Pay as you go sim card data not working while roaming

Hi. I just boughan A1 abroadband sim card and it has a very cool offer : paying 0.59 euros per 1 mb in over 50 countries in the world.
Up to now fine. The only problem is when I put it into my UNLOCED iPhone 4 it connects to the cellular data network. I can see 3g or E next to my roaming carrier. The problem is when I try to actually use the internet I get a popout message saying that I do not have a data subsription and the data network could not be activated. Of course I do not have a data subsription it is a pay as you go card ! I've contacted the carrier and they told me there is nothing wrong with their network and I was told to contact apple since they might ahave a problem with the hardware settings. Help anyone ?

Not having problems with their network tells you nothing that is of any help.
Call them and ask: "Does your A1 Roaming SIM work with an Apple iPhone 4 (or substitute whatever model you have) running iOS 4.3.3.? Have you tested it?" If they say no then it is possible this SIM won't work with your iPhone. Return it and get your money back.
