My PB sounds like an electric razor AND won't start up

Tell me my drive didn't die. Happily FCPing away, double clicked a filter to check the settings and the comp froze. 9:59:59am EST to be exact. Held down the power button to turn off comp, thinking that the culprit was an erratic fw drive that must've froze while writing data. Upon restart can't get a restart. Just a grinding noise, an Apple for a bit (2-4 minutes) and then the circle with the line through it icon. Comp started with install disc 1, but realized that was the wrong one. Now she won't restart at all to even allow me to eject that disc and put 2 in to run some test. I'm ready to go cop diskwarrior but am trying to see if that "noise" is telling me "don't even bother, you need a new drive" or worse. Any clue about the noise and what she's telling me? Thanx
My PB is a 11/04 purchase from Apple, out of warranty.

7 gillion programs on her, oy vey!

Ok, did that and was able to start her up. Unfortunately the noise is gone BUT it seems she took my drive with her. No icon for my hard drive. Is this a job for diskwarrior? Or do I need to go cop a new drive? Thanx for you help.

You can use a download instead of the disk as an alternative: Adobe - Download free trial version Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 | Adobe you can license with your serial
Please test the disk in another windows machine to check if it's caused by the drive or the disk. If you tested with 2 drives please start a support case, i assume Adobe will only provide downloads at this point. They are the same as the trials. If you still need a disk you can burn the trial to a disk as a backup disk. Good luck!

I have tried with a wired USB keyboard and mouse using a single screen. Powered up with option pressed. No change.
Reset SMC no change

Run the Apple hardware test to see what it tells you. Run the extended test when prompted, which can take awhile.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Has any of this been tried?

If you are using different ID's for iTunes, then unfortunately you can't share an iTunes Match subscription.

I have had the phone for 2 years and the last time I had used it to record a video was in July of this year. The sound came out crisp and clear. Now when ever I play back videos the audio is muffled and at a lower volume than it should sound like. I have the volume set all the way up when I record and my hands are not covering the microphone and/or near to affect the audio playback.

This is not a complicated problem. And you can easilly solve it. Here is the way about how to recover music from iPod.
Connect your iPod to your computer to restore custom ringtones and ringtones saved to the computer. Click the "iPod" button in iTunes, or select your iPod in the sidebar if you enabled the option to show the sidebar. Select the "Tones" tab, check the box for each ringtone you want to transfer to your iPhone, and then click "Sync." Sometimes a 3 party tool such as Data Recovery may help you in a easy way.

MBP shuts down and won't start up

I had my MBP for 2 months and it just started to act weird. For no reason, it randomly shuts down with no warning (just like if you would disconnect the battery) and won't even start up again (I had half of the start up sound then nothing). After a couple of more tries, it should startup again but soon things will go bad... Any idea what is going on ?

Sounds like a bad battery and/or problem with the PMU (power management unit) and/or memory.
"Half the start up sound" is a bad sign as it means it's failing the normal start up tests (I'd guess a Memory problem)
Reset the PMU and run the Hardware tests from Install DVD1 (hold down d at startup) and see what it reports.

XI Pro stopped working and won't start

I used XI Pro on my desktop for a year. It worked perfect. Now, when I click on the icon it looks like it's loading but nothing happens.

On Windows (I just don't know how on a MAC), go to Control Panel>Programs & Features. Select Acrobat and run a repair. After the repair, open Acrobat and run Help>updates to be sure you are current.

- Download the apps to your computer and sysnc
- Reset all settings

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
