My PC can see the macbook files, macbook can't see PC files

I received my macbook pro yesterday and decided to try and network the two so that I could transfer my files from my PC to the mac. The PC is connected to the internet using a linksys router and uses ethernet to connect. The Mac is connected by the airport wirelessly throught the airport. I have followed tutorials and everything telling me how to finally view the PC on my mac. The PC can view the files on the mac once it enters the username and password on the mac. I got the PC to do so by entering the ip address of the mac and the name of the share in addition to enabling sharing on my mac. However, whenever I go to the Finder > Go > Connect to server > and type in the name of the smb://nameofthecomputer/sharename, i'm not able to connect and it asks for a password. The thing is, I dont have a password on my PC. Everything I enter is wrong. I dont konw what username or password it is refering to... I just keep getting a message that says "COULD NOT CONNECT TO THE SERVER BECAUSE THE NAME OR PASSWORD IS NOT CORRECT". I've enabled sharing under the "SHARING" tab in system preferences and i've seleceted "Personal file sharing", and "windows filesharing". If anyone is willing to assist me, I would greatly appreciate any settings or SOME way i could fix this. Linksys wont offer support because they quote"dont support file sharing..." hm... I've called applecare because i'm still under my 90 days and they cant offer to fix anything becase they claim the problem is with windows, and the dell downstairs is 4 years old and tech support is a beast ($$$). I can provide any information you guys need to help me.

Please check the following settings:
If you're trying to connect to a Windows 2003 Server Share:
Go to Server Management tool on the Win 2003 server, unfold 'Advanced management', Click on Computer Management, right click on Shared Folders and click Configure File Server for Macintosh properties. Make sure Authentication is enabled and set to Apple Clear Text or Microsoft.
Secondly you have to go to the Windows Server' control panel (start menu - control panel) then click on Administrative tools - Double click 'Default Domain Controller Security settings' - Unfold 'Local Policies' and select Security Options. Somewhere in that list there is an option called: 'Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign communications (always)' double click on that option and disable it.
Now it should work
