iTunes is not designed to do that. However, this user tip from tt2 may help you recover your music from your iPod, although it's not a simple process: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Ignore any references in the tip to iOS devices, the Classic does not use iOS. The tip has a list of software, including the TouchCopy referred to by tbirdvet that may assist you in recovering your music.

My mac crashed last semester (during finals week too!) and I lost all the songs that I had downloaded. I have tried to look around, but is there anybody who would know how to find/ download them again? I'd rather not have to spend all that again.

I got a new iphone 4s which was a replacement for my 4s that got wet abuot 2 months ago. I had the applecare people walk me thru setting up the new phone. I just noticed that almost all of my music is not showing up on my phone. How can I get my music back?
Is your library still present? You can upgrade iTunes, then on left hand side u should see purchased. Music that was purchased can be restored through phone and computer. Go to file & click transfer purchases from your iPhone. You may have to authorize the computer again.

Was trying to move all my files to an external hard drive, and numberious things happensed after that that I won't get into. I ended up haveing to erase and reinstall my itunes to try to get my music back onto it. Ended up losing it all and wasting around 8 hours. No i know i have to reload my hundreds of cd back onto mu ipod. ( will takes weeks, i swear i hate my ipod) but how do i get my purchased music back?

My I phone was connected to my desktop to upload pictures, magically I tune activated and synced all my phone data and notes. I don't have Itune account.
This happened because you had not disabled automatic syncing in iTunes (so your phone synced when you connected it to your computer). If you haven't synced again since this happened you may be able to restore your phone to the backup created at the beginning of the sync process to recover your data. (If you have synced again the backup is already overwritten and your data is lost). To do this do the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences. On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Now connect your phone and import your photos if you haven't already done so (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083).
Now open iTunes and right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and select Transfer Purchases (to transfer any recent purchases to your iTunes library prior to restore from backup).
Right-click on the name of your phone again and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing. -

You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer. You should get the option to merge the data when you sync. -

I guess i dont understand the pupose of itunes and its worth. I thought it backed up all my photos and music, but apparently not. My computer crashed and I lost all of my music. I have music still on my Ipod touch but a lot of it was originally burned from CD's onto my computer. Is there any way to transfer this music back to a new computer or will I need to re-burn each individual CD again to get this onto the new computer?

If you do not have a back, you can select first track on list in song view, from menu > edit > select all. Next ctrl+click and select download from pop up. You may wish to do this in small batches as it will take some time to download.

Any music purchased through the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free as long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you used for the original purchase. Any other music you had in iTunes should be easily accessible in your system back up or from the CDs you ripped from originally.

Our exchange server crashed and we lost all contact and calendar data. We found an app to get the contacts off of people's phone to import but can't find the same for calendar. How do I get my calendar info off my phone and in to new exchange server?
You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server,that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.
