My PC no longer recognises my HP lasaerjet 5100tn printer.

Hi Windows 7 64-bit, HP laserjet 5100tn - parallel port to USB connection. I disconnected everything from my PC and hid it for security during  a recent holiday. When re-connecting I probably did not put things back in the same USB slots but everything worked (including my HP Photosmart C6280 printer) except my 5100 printer - the PC did not recognise there was something in the slot.  There is usually an icon in 'Devices and Printers' for this printer and another 2 marked copy1 and copy 2.  Copy 2 was missing after reconnection post holiday.  I tried different USB for the 5100 slots and one of them created a 'copy 2' icon and I was able to use the printer briefly.  But now it doesn't matter which slot I put it into, the PC does not recognise it and there are jobs stacked up - which I have now deleted.  Thinking I would need to return to basics I deleted all the 5100 icons in Devices and Printers and put the driver installation disc in - it messages: cannot continue set up severe error.  I tried installing various universal drivers from HP website and get as far as it saying an icon has been installed in Devices and Printers - but there isn't one.  The printer will print a test sheet from its on-board menu.  I do not have a 2nd PC to try the printer on.  Windows 'add a device' does not find the printer.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my PC to regognise my 5100?  Many thanks Ian P-K

  • IPod no longer recognised

Hoping someone can help me as I can't find any relevant information...
My flatmate recently got a 5th generation iPod which she has registered on my Toshiba laptop. Since this has happened iTunes and the laptop no longer recognises my poor old 2nd gen! It will still charge but that's it.
Any way to fix it?? I've tried to restart both devices, the latest version of itunes is installed, not sure what else to do.

  • External disk no longer recognised on Time Capsule

I have a 500GB Time Capsule connected to my broadband router by an ethernet cable. My Mac Pro is connected to the TC by ethernet and WiFi and I also have a MacBook which uses WiFi to connect to the TC. I have a USB hub connected to the TC with a Canon printer and Iomega external disk attached.
This all worked fine until a week ago when I updated the TC firmware from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2. I had problems with WiFi not working so went back to 7.4.2. I then updated the Airport Utility to 5.5.2 and tried the 7.5.2 firmware on the TC and now the WiFi works with no problem.
But - the external Iomega disk is no longer recognised. I cannot see it via the Airport Utility and it doesn't show up under Shared using Finder.
I have connected the disk directly to my Mac Pro and it shows up and Disk utility gives it a clean bill of health. I've tried connecting the disk directly to the TC (not going through the USB hub). Still no go.
I've tried rebooting the Mac Pro, turning off the TC - nothing seems to work.
Anyone have any thoughts on why this is not working?

I have a fix for this problem but it entails restoring version 5.5.1 of Airport Utility, then returning to the 7.4.2 version of the TC firmware.
All working now! I guess I'll stay with the old utility and firmware until Apple fixes this.

  • IPod classic (20gb) no longer recognised on laptop.

Hi. My iPod classic 20gb is no longer recognised on my laptop and consequently can't download from iTunes etc. I've tried trouble shooting tips with no joy. My origninal cable is not great but still able to charge using it most of the time. I have tried with my iPhone cable but with no response. Does the iPod classic (20gb) need a specific cable? Thanks for any help.

    Hello Wraggs,
I had the same problem with the same model iPod.  At first my laptop would not recognize the device; after a while it also stopped taking a charge at all.
First see that you're using a cable of at least 1 amp output.  (Many are only .5a.)  Even though my iPod has been repaired (see below), I still have to use the 1a to get it to charge and connect.
If that doesn't fix the connectivity problem, it's probably the same issue as mine - some of the 40-some connector pins in the iPod's port were apparently bent and not making proper contact with the charger pins.  (Lesson learned: I'm now very careful to plug it in perfectly straight.)  Had to call in the big guns for that one: I found a parts-only, identical model iPod on eBay (ensuring from the seller that the charging port actually worked), had a geek-inclined relative swap out the non-working battery and hard drive for my own, and have had no problems since.  That method is iffy and depends on you or a friend being able to mess with it, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new iPod.
Hope either of these tips help.

  • IPAD1 is no longer recognised by my MAc. Itunes freezes when I restart everything. My  iphone 4 works fine. How do i fix this?

My IPAD1 is no longer recognised by Itunes on my Mac deskop. I have follewed the steps recommended by Apple Support aand sometimes after shutting everything down & restarting Itunes briefly recognises my ipad before freezing. Thereafter it sometimes recognises an Ipad is connected but says it cannot identify it. THe message readds "An iPad has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPad, then try again."  Dsiconneceting & reconnecting achives nothing. However the Ipad does receive a charge from the Mac
This started after updating some Apps, and the next sync advised me that there had been issues syncing Apps. Then this problem started.
How an I reconnect my IPAD so Itunes recognisese it?. THere is no problem syncing my Iphone4s

    - Look at the dock connector on the iPad. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and cracked or broken plastic.
    - Reset the iPad. Nothing is lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod touch generation 5. Disabled, no luck restoring and is no longer recognised.

Kids disabled it, I have tried restoring but it made me download an update first by which point it decided my Ipod was no longer recognised by my computer and still won't recognise it. I tried turning it off, then connected the usb, held down the power button for 3 seconds, then at the same time held the home button for whoever many seconds, then let go of the power button and continued holding the home button for whoever long it told me too in the info I managed to find online. Any other advice please?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. Try a couple of times since timing is critical. The iPod will be erased.

  • My itunes no longer recognises my ipod nano and won't sync.  Any advice?

My ipod nano is no longer recognised by itunes and won't sync.  Itunes is on a Window 8 computer and while windows sees the device, itunes won't?  Any advice?

    Hi caro101,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano not being recognized in iTunes.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)

  • Zen Xtra no longer recognised by sys

    Player: Zen Xtra (30GB)
    firmware version: .20.08
I installed the software for my zen from the cd, then I upgraded my software from the CD versions to the following versions, and my player is no longer recognised.
These are the files I installed:
    Media Source - CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe
    Jukebox driver - JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE
    Zen Plugin - CMS_PJB3_PCApp_LB_2_00_9.exe
I've connected the same player to other computers and have no problems, and my USB ports all work fine with my USB keyboard and mouse.
The only thing I can think of is that i've run windows update (this is a new PC), and might that have installed some conflicting files/drivers?
    Any ideas?

    Chet wrote:
I'd plugged in the USB cable to my Zen Xtra before plugging it into the PC. I heard a crackling noise after which the PC would not recognised the Zen. Got a message about unknown USB device.
Plugged a thumbdri've in after that, and got the same message so I thought the USB ports were ruined or something. But after a while, the thumbdri've is ok, but PC still would not recognise my Zen.
The Zen also freezes when the USB cable is plugged in. I had to do a soft reset by poking a straightened paper clip into the reset hole.
    What do I do now?
Does the Zen Xtra work fine when NOT connected to the PC?
Also, if you have another USB cable, you might want to try it.

  • I have a new hard drive and itunes and my computer (windows XP) no longer recognise my ipod. I also had the problem with the registry keys not being present but this has now been fixed. However i can no longer link my ipod up with itunes.

When I first tried itunes with my new hard drive there was the problem with the registry keys but something also flagged up about needing a signed driver. Is this anything to do with why Itunes and my computer no longer recognises when my ipod is linked up? Whatever i try under 'devices' my ipod is never available to sync up. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this has not worked. I didn't have quicktime to begin with so I don't know if that makes a difference? After following the instructions, I get the "registry keys missing" problem appear again (which I've subsequently fixed again) and then when I connected the ipod I got the following message - 'Device driver software was not successfully installed'.
I've tried windows update but this doesn't do anything as '...the service is not running'.
    Any suggestions?

  • No longer recognising DV files

I'm using Final Cut Pro 4.5 on Mac OS X 10.4.2. I've got a single Final Cut Pro project with around 12 hours of DV footage. All of the clips are stored on an external LaCie FW800 500GB drive, formatted in FAT32. I have another, identical drive, formatted in HFS+, which I use for my backup.
Recently, the FAT32 drive started having problems, so I checked the drive for errors (under Windows) and most things seemed to be fine. However, one of the 12 folders containing about 12GB of DV clips became scrambled and could no longer be read. All other 11 folders were fine.
No problem, I thought, I'll just copy over the backed up files from the HFS+ drive to the FAT32 drive and start editing again. However, when I did this, Final Cut Pro started up with the very helpful "General Error (34)" whenever I tried opening this project. I narrowed the problem down to the backed up clips that I had. Having looked on the FAT32 drive, all of the DV clips are now listed in the Finder as "UNIX Executable File", with the corresponding black icon. The files will no longer open in FCP or iMovie 5. Quicktime won't open them, complaining that it doesn't recognise the file format.
In addition, ALL the backed up versions of the clips show this problem! While the DV clips on the FAT32 drive for the other 11 folders show up correctly, and will open in any of the above programs, the backed-up versions on the HFS+ drive all show up as "UNIX Executable File" and will not open. This means my backup is currently completely useless!
Is there any way I can recover these files? The files themselves seem intact, and the backup versions were created almost as soon as I'd imported the original clips, so they should be fine. It's just that they're no longer recognised as DV clips, so I'm stuck.
Also, am I causing myself problems by using the FAT32 disk as my primary scratch disk, as well as containing all the DV files?
Finally, is there a way to back these files up so that the file type is retained? I'd like to think that the backed up versions were actually backups!
    Simon.

Right, finally cracked it. Based on my limited knowledge of Mac file structures, I wondered if the problem was caused by using 'rsync' for my original backups. It appears that the problem arose because however I had backed up the files hadn't retained the type and creator codes for the DV clips in question. I downloaded the utility 'FileType', which allowed me to set the file and creator codes for the 'broken' DV clips, set them all to match the good files, and lo and behold my FCP project was working again!
I then copied all the DV clips over to my HFS+ backup disk by hand (very laborious) and started digging about for problems with the backup. It turns out that 'rsync' doesn't support Mac OS X type and creator codes (which also explained why I had a whole range of "._" files floating around - apparently these contain the file/creator codes), which meant that all this information was stripped off when I ran the backup. Hence FCP (and Quicktime) could no longer recognise my DV clips.
I shall now have to find another method of doing my backups. But for now: success!
    Simon.

  • My computer no longer recognises the Airport base station network

I presently have wireless broadband internet access on my iBook (using a Belkin wireless ethernet router connected by an ethernet cable to my airport.)
I also have an Airport Express in another room connected to my stereo for playing all my iTunes songs wirelessly.
The problem arose in that if i wanted to listen to my music I had to switch between networks, meaning i couldn't surf the net and listen to music at the same time.
A few nights ago I tried to 'merge' the networks using Airport set-up assistant (or admin utility, I forget which).
Now, my computer no longer recognises the Airport base station network, just the Express one.
Is there a way of listening to my music and using the internet at the same time, and how do I get my internet working again in the first place!
    Many thanks
    Jono

Rebooted Airport Express and now working

My Iphone 4s no longer recognised by my Sony car stereo (via usb) or by my apple friendly music dock. Any ideas?
Had started acting up just prior to IOS 8.0 then seemed ok a few days into using IOS 8.0 but now back to square one.
Have updated to IOS8.0.2 but still nothing.

maybe try cleaning out the port at the bottom of your iphone by blowing it out with compressed air or maybe by using a soft brush. or maybe gently with a toothpick. but nothing metal. perhaps there's dirt or dust in there that's preventing a connection. similarly make sure the connectors on your docks and cables are clean.
