My pc no longer recognizes my ipod.  What can I do

My pc will no longer recognize my ipod touch.  I looked in my computer not there.  ITunes does not see it either.  However, when I unplug it from my pc I get the usual sound of hardwear being disconnected.  Any ideas on how to get my pc to see my IPod?

Try putting it on Recovery mode then restore it..
Press or Hold the power and home keys 10 seconds.
Screen goes black, now release the power button
Make sure you do not release the Home key until
your iTunes says "We have detected an itouch
in recovery mode."
After this its simple all you
got to do is a simple restore using your iTunes

  • Windows 7 64bit no longer recognizes my iPod as of iTunes 10

So as of 3 iTunes updates ago, which would be iTunes 10, my computer with windows 7 64bit no longer recognizes my iPod clickwheel, telling me the device has malfunctioned.. which it hasn't it works just fine with my windows XP pro machine. I tried updating the ipod's drivers and that didn't work, since the drivers are up to date for it.

Looks like the USB Driver is gone. Windows doesn't seem to recognize the iPod touch.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.

My computer no longer recognizes my iPod Touch. And the iPod Touch does not recognize that it is connected to a computer.  It has worked great for many days until today.
I’ve tried two different Apple cables.
I’ve tried different USB ports on the computer.
I have rebooted both the Mac and the iPod.
I’ve wiggled the cables and checked for dust in the connectors.
The iPod charges using this same cable connected to wall wart.  That’s a good sign.
Both the Mac and iPod seem to work fine separate from each other.  They just won’t talk anymore.

    iPod Touch 32GB, version 3.1.3 (7E18), model PB533LL

I found this possible solution on another support thread, so I tried it.
    turn off iPod
hold Sleep and Home buttons to start it.
When Apple appears, let go of Sleep button, but keep holding Home button.
When screen goes blank, let go of Home button.
Connect cable and check iTunes to see if it has conencted.
This did not work for me.
I then turned off the iPod, restarted the Mac, and restarted the iPod normally.
I connected them with the cable, and it works like normal.  :-)

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I just updated an iPhone 4 from iOS 7 to iOS 7.1 and my computer/iTunes no longer recognizes the device; what gives? How do I get iTunes to show the device?

With iOS 7, the "call Decline" button is only available when the phone is awake. To decline a call when the phone is asleep, simply tap the On/Off button.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks, my computer no longer recognizes my ipod.

After upgrading to Mavericks, my computer no longer recognizes my ipod. Screen lights up when it's plugged in, but it doesn't get to the "connected" state and it doesn't show up on my computer, in the /Volumes folder or in iTunes. This has only started happening after I upgraded to Mavericks.

I should also note, that I have restarted my computer and ipod multiple times and have attempted restarting the SMC on my mac, as per
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    all with no luck.
Also, I have updated to the most recent version of iTunes and have checked that the USB ports are being read correctly through the System Profiler. I have also plugged the ipod into the same ports that worked with my keyboard and mouse, with no different results.

  • My daughter lost her iPod, what can I do to find it?

My daughter lost her iPod, what can I do to find it if someone turns it in?

Change her iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.
