My PC recently crashed and wiped out all my info including my music..

My PC recently crashed and wiped out all my info including my music, i still have it all on my ipod. is there anyway possible i can restore the songs on my ipod back into my computer eventhough my itunes library is empty? i read something about turning my ipod into a disk drive.. someone please help me!!

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software
PodUtil Software
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
PodPlus Software (Windows)
TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
1 - Open iTunes
2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

Yes, I got that. My question was "are you using the same iTunes account to access music purchased from the Store?" I think your answer is "yes".

iTunes is not designed to do that. However, this user tip from tt2 may help you recover your music from your iPod, although it's not a simple process: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Ignore any references in the tip to iOS devices, the Classic does not use iOS. The tip has a list of software, including the TouchCopy referred to by tbirdvet that may assist you in recovering your music.

  • My daughter created a new itunes and wiped out all my aps, music, etc.

A new account was created on my itunes and all of my downloads, aps, music, everything is gone....HELP!!!

    Vicki,
Give her copies of the song files on a USB drive and let her add them to her iTunes library on her new computer.

  • OMG you updated Firefox last night and wiped out ALL my docs, photos, tabs, downloads, history EVERYTHING. Need BIG HELP ASAP. Tkx. 4/16/13

My computer shut itself down overnight. The only clue I have is Firefox announcing that it's now all updated. BUT my entire computer has been stripped. In addition to loss of tabs, bookmarks, history, there are no docs, no photos, no downloads, missing software, the entire tree of folders is *gone* including the docs I was working on for a.m. client meetings. Nothing in the trash folder.
Firefox has messed with its own settings before but today it seems to have viciously reset my computer to nearly naked.
I realize that you understand how serious this is. Surely it has happened to others. Please, please have a fast and effective solution. Thank you.

Firefox can't Reset your computer's profile. what most likely happened is you are having a problem with your computer, and it got started up in a default profile (and Firefox probably didn't update last night, it may have given that message because Firefox's profile was gone too).
Do you get a message like "Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system" in the bottom right hand corner when you start your computer? If so, contact a reputable local computer repair company, they can assist with recovering your data.

  • Just did the on line update for 3g phone and wiped out all my songs. I have the songs still on my laptop but now phone won't sync

How can I get my phone to sync and put the songs back? I also made back up discs but it won't sync.

Thanks but I solved the problem...it was really simple. Out of 160GB I had only used 34GB, so I knew I had space. What happened was in the process of downloading songs I also downloaded a few episodes of United States of Tara, which was taking a long time to download so even though it said I had 1019 songs the 26 undownloaded were on iCloud, not on my computer. So I paused the downloading of my episodes so my songs could finish downloading. Now my iPod and computer are in sync.
I don't know how this works so I'll give the points anyway, for being the only one who attempted to solve my problem.

  • My ipod mini just updated and wiped out all 742 songs off ipod

how can i recover my songs after update wiped them off my ipod mini?

Resync them from your iTunes library.  If the songs on the iPod were not in your current iTunes library (or backed up elsewhere), they are probably gone.

  • Help: Word 2004/Mac wiped out all my customized commands, etc.!

I opened Word 2004 for Mac (Version 11.2) on my G4 15" Powerbook this morning and discovered that it had reverted to its factory install settings and wiped out all my preferences, toolbar customizations, and (many, many) customized keyboard commands.
Neither my Entourage settings nor my Styles have been affected, so the problem seems to be with preferences, toolbar, and keyboard settings only, and not with Office 2004 for Mac or Mac OS 10.3.9. This seems to have happened spontaneously, because everything was working normally when I shut down my computer last night.
I have a copy of my most recent keyboard settings, though not toolbars and preferences, but restoring everything will be extremely time-consuming, and since I'm on a deadline, I'm very ticked off! Can anyone tell me (1) Why this happened, (2) If there's any way to restore all my stuff without doing it all from scratch?; (3) How to prevent this happening again?
Oh, and one more aggravating thing: (4) The Word "Help" window is now so big that the lower right corner no longer shows on the screen of my laptop, and even when I click the green button to minimize the screen, I can't get at that corner to reduce the size of the window. Anyone know how to make the Help window (much) smaller?
Many thanks for any suggestions or information!

Hi, Turtlewiz. Always remember, each time Word kicks you in the teeth, that it's not a bug, it's a feature! Word may temporarily have forgotten that it knows what you want much better than you do, and allowed you to choose some settings and create some customizations yourself. Now that Word has regained its senses, all that silliness is over and you're back at its mercy again. In other words, the situation is normal, as most Word users can attest.
The remedy is to use a different word processor — one that lets you be in charge, instead of dictating the terms of your capitulation at the most inopportune of times.

  • Hotsync wrong and wiped out computer info

    Hi there,
I just lost my Centro phone today.  I had my old Treo 650, so I decided to hotsync it to at least give me my calendar and old numbers. The problem is that I didn't have the override settings correct and wiped out all of my information on my desktop.  Is there a way I can restore my desktop settings, so when I get a new phone it will all be back?
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Did you sync your Treo to the same user name as the centro?
Open the Palm Desktop program. On the top-right, you should see your user name listed. If you have more than one user name (one from your Treo and one from your centro), click on the user name associated with your centro and check if all the info is there.
I hope you are able to get all your info!

have verizon iphone 3g; recent upgrade of operating system.  suddenly calendar has wiped out all entries and am unable to add new ones.

Please define "tried to add the Image"?
OS Installer Packages do not point to "images". They point to the complete set of source files including the directory structure from the media.
Is there a specific reason you are using OS Installer packages though? In general, there is no reason to use them anymore (unless you are actually still deploying XP).

My laptop recently crashed and is unsalvageable with my itunes library on it.  My ipod still has all of my music still on it.
Is there a way that I can put the songs on my ipod onto itunes on my new computer without loosing them or having to buy them all over again?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I updated my software on my ipad, and it wiped out all my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  My planner is my life and I am feeling totally lost!!!!!

Please Help!!  When I updated my Ipad2 it wiped out all of my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  I have looked in Icloud and itunes and am not finding the calendar there, as it comes on the ipad and is not an app.

Were you syncing calendar events over the air with your iCloud account or syncing calendar events direct with a supported calendar app on your computer via the iTunes sync process?
If your planner is your life, not a good idea to depend on one device for your calendar events. They should be available on your computer as well along with the data included with your computer's backup.

  • How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.
