My PDF's turn into nonsense WordPad documents

My PDF's turn into nonsense WordPad documents. Someone help me!

Well technically I haven't been able to use Create PDF successfully. But
for example - I have an excel spreadsheet on my desktop that I want to
convert into a PDF. As of now I am right clicking, properties, change it to
open with Adobe Reader. This successfully changes it to a PDF format, but
when I try to open it, Adobe pops up and claims that it can't open my
document because it's not a supported file. Ugh!

  • I do not have the ability to edit my .pdf once converted into a word document. Did I purchase the wrong version?

When I covert my pdf into a word document it does not allow me to edit the actual text. I can add random text to the document, not following the format of the document (not aligned, not the same font, etc.). I can add text, but I cannot what is already in a sentence or paragraph.
Did I purchase the wrong version?
    Thanks,
    Cindy.

    Hi cindyjay,
You have the right tool for converting PDF files to Word. For starters, please try triple-clicking in the text block that you want to edit. If that doesn't work, we'll need to take a closer look at how the PDF that you converted was created (did it start out as a scanned document, for example). If it did start as a scanned document, it's important that OCR (optical character recognition) was performed during conversion to convert scanned text to editable text. OCR is on by default when you convert via the ExportPDF website, but can be turned off if you convert via Reader.
If triple-clicking doesn't work, let me know, and then we'll take a closer look at your file.
    Best,
    Sara

  • ID CS3 : the 101 buttons bug - PDF file turning into a form

    Hi there,
I'm just mentionning this issue with a clear title (I had mentioned it in another thread but with a wrong topic name, since I hadn't found out the bug).
When working in inDesign CS3, there's a slight but annoying issue with interactive PDF buttons. As soon as your file reaches 101 buttons, the PDF document exported is considered as a form instead of a standard document (no matter if the buttons are present on the master pages, on the same pages or through the document).
I've managed to find a workaround myself, and I found another one on these forums, but no real solution. Here they are:
    Workaround #1 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/2177707#2177707) :
Instead of creating my controls in the master page (which caused the file to have more than 100 buttons), I created them (only once) in the first page they appeared in. Then, in Acrobat Pro, I just selected them and used the "duplicate" command.
There are two benefits when using this solution:
your PDF document won't turn into a form (which can be a real problem if you don't want to confuse the document users).
your PDF file will be lighter. Indeed, when creating a button in inDesign (even if you create it on the master page) the exported PDF document won't contain X occurences of the same button, but X different buttons (which can incread the size of your document dramaticaly when it reaches a large amount of pages).
Yet, if your document reaches 101 buttons on the solemn content, the bug will trigger anyway.
    Workaround #2 (http://http://forums.adobe.com/message/1322652#1322652) :
After having exported your PDF file, lock it against editing (through the password protection system). Your document will still be considered as a form, but the annoying purple box won't pop any longer when you open the file.
This solution is quite simpler, but it still is a workaround to the issue, not a solution.
Well, I hope those workarounds will help someone, but if someone had a *real* solution to it, that would be great.

Thanx! For me — prototyping — to block editing with password is enough (for now).

  • How is it possible, that a pdf file turns into a psd file while sending with mail

I have send a pdf file as attachment with mail. the file shows correctly as pdf file. but when the file arrived at the addressed location it turned into a psd file. in addition it seems there is a problem sending png and ai files. once those files have arrived through mail I am getting the feedback, that the files are are not scalable, they are fuzzy or completely messed up.
has anyone an idea, where the problem comes from?

  • All my pdf documents have turned into firefox html documents and will not open correctly

All my pdf documents have suddenly become firefox html docs & will not open unless I go into the folder, right click, 'open with', etc. I haven't changed any of my settings. I think firefox did an update yesterday, however, so I'm connecting it with that, possibly...

    Try this:
    # Right click your PDFs, click Properties
    # Go to the General tab
    # In the '''Opens with''' section, click the ''Change'' button
    # Select Adobe Reader (or Foxit Reader/Whatever PDF viewer you use)
    # Click Apply then OK.
    Does it work then?

  • PDF comments turning into code when copied

When copying long comments to paste into another document, the comment (not the copied text) changes to some kind of code—see below. If I close the PDF before saving, it reverts to the original comment. If not, the code remains. This has happened since OS 10.7 and with Acrobat 9, X and XI CC.

    Hi Will,
This is a known issue and a Bug(3830298) has been logged for the same.
Our engineering team is working on the fix.

  • PDF's turning into FDF's -- why???

When users edit PDF's (add stamp, add signature), then save, the documents are sometimes randomly saving as FDF's, instead of remaining PDF's.  Why is this happening and how can we prevent it?  It is very inconsistent happening to some users only every once in awhile and not happening at all to other users.  Can anyone explain this?

It is likely that they are selecting the submit button and it is saving the data for submission. In Acrobat, the data format that is used is typically a FDF file. You did not mention the versions of either Acrobat or Reader that they are using. Prior to Reader XI, Reader could not save a pdf unless it had reader extensions (but that limits the number of submissions). However, there is not restriction on saving the FDF file and that can be submitted for processing to a web site for processing. As you might note, I have hinted that a lot of information on the form and the computers/OSs are not available to use and so the answer can only be suggestive.

  • PDF is turning into a JPG on my .docx conversion

Is my second time using the PDF Export. The first time worked very well, converting my PDF file (in portuguese - Brazil) into an editable .docx file.
Now I'm trying to do the same thing with a smaller file, and after converting into .docx, I'm getting a image of the whole file (probably JPG) inside my .docx file. Isn't editable!
    What's going on?

    Hi,
It seems that it was working fine earlier.
    The issue seems file specific.
Try using different file or check with different browser and see.

  • Any idea why images in pdf files turn into negatives?

I have noticed that anything saved in a pdf format, shows up as a negative on the ipad. Pictures and colours used in headers, etc. Very strange. Have noticed this in Goodreader as well as in email.
    Thanks.

More information is needed.  How are the PDF's being created?  Where are they coming from?  All the same source or any PDF you open on the iPad?  Have you tried a reset?  Restore?  Other?

  • How do i place a pages template into a pages document?

I have created a poster from the pages template and i want to resize the poster to use as an advertisement in another pages document i have created.
    how do i do this?
    TIA

Print it as a .pdf, drag that into the 2nd document and reduce its size as necessary.
Alternatively you can relayout the poster, which would be normal for an advertisement, omitting some of the irrelevant detail and simplifying it. You can group textboxes, images and shapes then reduce them as a whole. The actual text within the boxes won't shrink, but you can reduce the point size and leading, preferably in named styles, to suit.

  • I have a word document that I have put hyperlinks in and turned into a pdf.  When I email and receiver opens in iPad the document is blank.  When I do a file save as pdf the document appears and the hyperlinks work but the document has much of the content

I have a word document that I have put hyperlinks in and turned into a pdf.  When I email and receiver opens in iPad the document is blank.  When I do a file save as pdf the document appears and the hyperlinks work but the document has much of the content turned into symbols.  What is going wrong?

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

  • Turn pdf docs into a continuous document

I have a continuous document feeder for scanning, but I need to know how to merge the continuous pdf's into one continuous document so I'm not sending 35 separate pdfs to my client.  Can someone tell this green pdf person how to do this?
    thank you!

You can combine the documents in Adobe Acrobat.

  • Adobe Reader 9 pdf printing turns text into symbols

I am trying to print a pdf file, when it starts printing all of the text turns into random symbols, I am trying to print a rebate and this is really frustrating. I saved the online pdf to my HardDrive, then I try to print it after opening with Adobe Reader 9. I have tried printing it as an image, and still the same occurs, my printer is fine, it prints word documents and notepad perfectly, I have all the latest updates, so I do not know why this is happening.

I do realize that not all printers are affected. However, the problem is clearly with Adobe Reader 9. The reason I say this is that the problem does NOT exist with Adobe Reader 8. The problem ONLY occurs with Adobe Reader 9. Furthermore, I am not sure what specific resolution to this printer you are referring to, but there hasn't been a solution presented thus far that is an actual fix for the problem. Originally, I identified that if I selected "Print to Image" the entire multi-page PDF would print as expected. Although, this solution causes the multi-page PDF to print very slowly (for the reasons noted by Mike). Another reader reported that if you install FoxIT PDF Reader, multi-page PDFs print just fine. I have verified that installing FoxIT Reader DOES INDEED allow me to print multi-page PDFs to our FS-C5015N. Again, if it was purely a driver issue, why would a multi-page PDF opened with FoxIT Reader print as expected while the same PDF opened with Adobe Reader 9, not print as expected? There also were a couple other posts about using the generic Kyocera KX driver. This is not an option for us. Finally, there was a post about changing the Post Script driver setings. We do not use the Post Script driver. And just as a side note, we have tried using the Post Script driver to see if this will resolve the multi-page PDF issue, and it does not. With that said, I implore Adobe to once again acknowledge this problem and provide users with a fix. This is a very frustrating problem.

  • Excel tables turn into black boxes when put into PDF

I'm working in Framemaker 8 and when I try to turn the document into a PDF, any excel table in the document turns into a black box.  Is there any way to fix this?!

Add the following to your CSS
    a img { border: none; }
    Also, externalize your CSS.
Put all your CSS rules (currently all rules are pasted separately into the <head> of every webpage) into a single external stylesheet e.g. dubzz.css.
Then delete all the CSS rules in the <head> of every page and link every page to that stylesheet (dubzz.css) and upload everything.
That way, you only have to maintain your CSS rules for the entire website from one tiny file. Then upload and every page will be instantly up to date.
