You may need to try this More than Once...  Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps..
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
Restore from Backup  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.

Hi there kburgee! Other can be anything from App Data (information saved from apps like game progress, or passwords) to or old messages that you haven't deleted! The absolute best way to clean up some space is to restore your iPhone.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • When I connect my new iPhone 4s to the computer and iTunes is running, I am advised that a new update is available, but when I download it, I am informed that my phone can not be updated because it has an incompatible hardware

When I connect my new iPhone 4s to the computer, iTunes informs me that there is an update avaialble and I procceed to download only to be told that my phone has incompatible hardware so cannot be updated. Any advice please

Hi, I just re-downloaded the update, but instead of telling it to download and install, I just clicked on download only. This is a 813 mb file and I am on limited broadband usage. I did it this way thinking that I would get a chance to see the exact wording when it tried to install, however, I have no idea how to try and install the file now and when I came to click on the iphone symbol on itunes, the download diassapeared, where to I have no idea. I can't afford to download it again, and besides it takes approximately three hours to download it in any case, so all I can remember is that the error message stated that it couldn't update because the phones hardware was not compatible.

  • Can it harm my Ipod touch if it was connected to my computer and Itunes while I'm installing a new program that makes lights flash on my computer?

I was installing and I'm not sure why but the lights on my caps lock flashed without me touching it. Can that harm my Ipod? If installing a new program affected the usb drive can that harm my Ipod while it's connected?

It should be OK as long as you are not syncing or doing data transfer via US like backing up or restoring

  • Ipod updater 6-28 will cause your computer and itunes not to recognize Nano

Updated my new nano, and wha-la, it did not work. Tried the 5 useless R's. What type of updater is this?!! So beta.
THe following worked and I got the information from a posting by Casper.
Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
    Under storage, select disk management
Find the iPod volume and right-click on it
    Select format
Set the format to FAT32, and leave all the other settings on the default
Make sure "quick format" is not selected
    Start the format.
When the format completes, you should be able to restore with the iPod updater of your choice.
      Windows XP

You do have to be patient with the above procedure, could also try, using hp usb tool do a search on the forum for that method, there is also a dos method though not tryed it, though be careful here you dont want to format the wrong thing. Here are the instructions though They are alittle vague
    1) Put the nano into disk mode
    2) Connect the nano to the computer
    3) start > run > cmd to get to DOS
    4) Once in DOCs, I typed format <drive name>
    5) As stated above, I used FAT32.
    6) Rebooted computer.
    7) Run the updater. The nano was recognizable now
    8) Restore nano using the updater. This put 1.2 on there successfully.
    9) Ran iTunes, and synched all my music again

    Hi Patraposo,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It is difficult to know why devices behave unexpectedly; however there are several articles on the Support site that can help recover your iPhone if the update did not complete.
If your iPhone will not turn on, start with the steps in the "Power/Battery" section of this article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
If you just see the "connect to iTunes" screen, the steps in this article can help:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

If you see another symptom, feel free to reply with more information.
    Best,

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried something like the above then try opening iTunes in safe mode (press and hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases. You may find that iTunes opens normally now.

I am trying to update ipod touch from ios 4.3.2 to ios 6.1.3.  I have it connected to my computer, and the summary in itunes indicates the update is available.  However, when I click "update", it opens Windows Explorer and waits for a file name to open.

I am not at that computer now, but I did check via windows update & with the check updates menu choice in the itunes program  - neither indicated a newer version of itunes is available. (it is a vista computer).
The itunes software on the computer displays my ipod & the current ios (4.3.2), and indicates a newer ios is available (6.1.3). When I choose "update", I am taken to Windows Exploer and prompted to choose a file to open. it is as if the "update" button has the incorrect code attached to it.
The ipod is working, but there are several app I would like to install, but I can't with the current ooperating system.

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • "The software update failed. Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again"

    Hi
I just had my xperia Z3c in repairs, and now I seem to have the death screen or something. When I connect to a wall charger or my MacBook, it starts turning on and off, displaying the message "The software update failed. Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again", even when it's connected to the wall charger, not the Mac. I've tried pushing the volume up + on/off button for 10 seconds, and Sony Bridge for Mac doesn't recognize the device. I was told to let it charge for an hour before turning it on at the store, which I did, but again, it starts flashing that message as soon as I connect it to anything.
    Pleease help me out
    Best regards
    Maria

Connect your phone to a wall charger > press and hold power & volume up for 10 seconds > let it charge for 2 to 3 hours
