If all you want right now is your music, you can turn off the option to sync apps, that should help.
With your iPhone plugged in, open iTunes, and go to the page with details about your phone (on the left side of iTunes, it should be under the Devices header). When you are there, go to the top, click on the "Apps" tab (next to "Info"), then uncheck the box that says sync apps.

I literally just had this problem and restarting the actual ipod fixed it. Holding down the sleep button at the top until the red slider appears will make all the difference once you turn it back on. Some of the other discussions on this topic were able to helpe me.

Yes, you can sync your iPhone just as you did your Touch and get the same songs, apps, video, etc.

Since last upgrade I can't sync because the iPhoto library is not available

I upgraded Yosemite, iTunes and iOS. Now neither my iPhone or my iPad will sync. The sync gets halfway through and then fails because "the iPhoto library is not available". I've tried reloading Photos but when I look in the photo section in iTunes all I get is a spinning cursor. How can I get iTunes to recognise that Photos is the place to sync the photo library from? Alternatively, can I skip syncing photos and make the rest of the sync happen?

I think I've worked out how to fix this. I closed iTunes and ran Photos with the Option/Alt key depressed and told it to use the old iPhoto library as the System photo library. This caused Photos to reimport all the old photos into a new Photos library called Photos Library 2.
When I then ran iTunes and connected my iPad, I got a message saying that the photo source had changed and nothing would be synced until I selected the correct option. This did not happen the previous time I ran Photos and imported the old iPhoto library. I'm now syncing using the second Photos library and it all appears to be working.
I suspect that I closed my laptop down during the original conversion of the iPhoto library (thinking it had finished) and this interrupted the process. This time I let it carry on working for four hours before opening iTunes and I suspect that is what made the difference. Of course, I've lost all the photos I added in the last ten days, but I may be able to retrieve them from my backups.

How is your iPod configured to sync music? In other words, what options and configurations do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs in iTunes?

Try to reset sync history.
If you have a Windows machine, press the ALT key to bring up file, edit, view, etc. Click edit and go to preferences. Click the tab titled "devices" and then at the bottom it will say "reset sync history."
If you have a Mac it's a bit more complicated. You can find the instructions here:

If this is your first time syncing then try a different USB port.
Make sure there are no third party software conflicting your connection. (Anti-virus software, etc)
Make sure your lightning USB cable is in working condition.
Restart your computer.

Can't sync becaus can't frind drive???

After installing the 3.1.2 update, when ever I try to sync my iphone 3gs to itunes 9.0.1.8 it tells me that it can't sync because the disk could not be read from or written too... i have even gone thru rebuilding my pc and installing a fresh itunes. I iphone was restored to factory, what gives? Any ideas???

I am having the same problems ever since iTunes 9.0.1.8 came out. I have been on the phone with 3 different apple support people and 2 trips to the apple store and no one has been able to help me. None of the apple help works. I have reinstalled iTunes at least 5 times and I have reset my iPhone 4 times. If anyone can help with an idea that is not from apple I would greatly appreciate it.

I received the same error message after I had recently updated iTunes to 10.5.1 and I had wirelessly updated 13 apps. I had to go into iTunes and select Apps, on the bottom right it said I needed to update 13 apps. I updated the apps via iTunes and then synced again without an issue.

First message I get when I connect the iphone is

Then it tries to backup but I get

When I click check for updates it says I have the latest version (5.0)

This iphone was on a developper account but it is not anymore (removed from developper account).
