My phone displays lightning connector logo and arrow pointing to iTunes icon

Just downloaded latest ios7 update (7.0.4) and now phone displays pic of a lightning connector and an arrow pointing to an itunes icon and is frozen. What's up?

Your iPhone is in recovery mode which requires you to then restore the i∏hone to factory settings with iTunes on your computer. During the update did you get any error message that it failed?
Try a reset:
- hold the home button and sleep/wake button down at the same time
- the iPhone will turn off (keep holding) then as soon as you see the Apple logo appear release both buttons
If after a reset the iPhone is still in recovery mode restore the iPhone using iTunes on a computer. If you have a back up you can restore the data back on your iPhone afterwards but if you don't have a back up then your data is gone sorry.

I was attempting to update iphone 4s today, laptop went flat during the last stages. The iphone now only displays USB cord, with an arrow pointing towards iTunes emblem. iTunes will not accept/read the iphone. HELP??

If you have the latest version of iTunes you should not have to download the ipsw file separately as jalp suggests. iTunes will download it automatically.
This error (9) most often means that your antivirus or firewall (or router) is blocking access to Apple's servers. In rare instances it can also mean that the phone was hacked (or "jailbroken") to unlock it. If this is the case you must do a DFU restore, not Recovery Mode, as follows:
    Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall. If you has Kaspersky you may actually have to uninstall it, as it can never be turned completely off.
Connect the USB cable to a USB port directly on your computer, not to a hub. DO NOT connect the other end to the phone
Disconnect all USB devices except for mouse, keyboard and iPhone cable.
    Launch iTunes
On the phone hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time for EXACTLY 10 seconds, then release the SLEEP button but continue holding the HOME button. The screen should be black. If it has an Apple logo this means you held both buttons too long. Release the HOME button and do it again.
While holding the HOME button connect the free end of the cable to the phone.
After a short while iTunes should recognize a phone in "recovery mode" (iTunes doesn't know the difference between DFU and Recovery modes, but the phone does)
Release the HOME button and don't touch the phone or the computer until the process completes or you get an error message. Ignore any displays on the phone.
If the error recurs the phone was probably messed up when it was hacked. This is not a hardware problem, or if it is, it isn't one you can fix.
You can try repeating these steps with a different computer and a different cable. If that fails also the phone is probably not repairable.

  • I just uploaded IOS 8 to Ipad mini and I get cord and arrow pointing to ITUNES?

I just uploaded IOS8 to ipad mini and get the cord and arrow pointed to ITunes (black screen behind) .  I have goggled every website and instruction on how to restore with home buttons and on/off and cable connected to Ipad and computer and continue to get the same picture .  Please can anyone help me?

hi, I have the same exact problem today and mine is also an iPad mini
all I do is connecting my iPad to itunes (make sure you have the latest version) and then a pop-up appears and it gave me two option 'update' and 'restore'
choose the update and let itunes downloading the ios, I don't know if this might happen to you but after sometimes another pop-up appears to say the download failed and I need to restore my ipad, I choose to ignore it (by clicking restore and update > cancel) because on my first attempt I click update and it suddenly re-downloading from zero, and it keeps appearing for every 10 minutes so I just choose the 'eject ipad' option and keep the itunes downloading the ios
once it finished downloading connect the ipad, choose update, the apple logo will appear on your ipad with a stripe below
it takes a long time to update the ios on the ipad but please be patient because it might took a long time
after a depressing 15 hours of downloading and 1 hour of updating I managed to get my ipad back with a new ios and without losing any data (please note that I don't have any backup of my files and using my friends pc to do all the steps above)
good luck and sorry for my bad english

My Iphone5C shows plug and arrow pointing to Itunes symbol but when i plug into computer it says device not recognized

That screen is telling you the iPhone has gone into recovery mode, and you need to use the recovery mode instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 to attach to a computer running iTunes.  Summary of instructions:

  • Tried to update my iphone5 and it went straight to black screen with and arrow pointing to itunes symbol. I don't have a computer and need to use my phone ASAP.

I tried to update my iPhone 5 and it went straight to. Black screen when a power cord and an arrow pointing to itunes. I googled what to do Nd it says to plug it into itunes on your computer but I no longer own a computer. I HAVE to have my phone for work and am not happy In the least with the help I've revived from Apple. I need help ASAP.

There is nothing that you can do except do what the phone is asking you to do and plug it into a computer to update it with iTunes.
I think Apple would have given you the same response too because there is nothing else that you can do - there is no other way to update the phone except by plugging it into a computer and using iTunes.
There is nothing we can do if you don't like the answers you are getting, but there is nothing else to do and it is hardly Apple's fault if you don't own a computer any longer.  Unfortunely you need a computer for this, so there is really no work aounrd.

  • HT4061 I updated my phone this morning and now it is stuck with an iTunes logo and arrow pointing to it and a pic of the power cord - the phone was plugged in when I started the update...now I can't access my phone at all

My phone is plugged in and the screen shows the power cord connector and arrow and the iTunes logo.  I have made sure the plug is in and power on. Touching the screen does nothing. I have turned it off and back on I get an apple pic then back to the iTunes logo pic, arrow and plug....

I installed new update and have had the connect to iTunes all day.  I got home connected to iTunes and it said my phone couldn't be updated it needed restored to factory settings.  I was reluctant to lose everything so I ignored this and clicked update.  After it installed it said to restore again.  Again I ignored it and this time it updated my phone and my phone turned back on with everything there.
So glad I ignored the previous messages asking me to restore! You could try this if you have iTunes and don't want it restored to factory settings.

  • HT1688 My husband did the update on his phone and when it restarted the screen came up with a plug in and arrow pointing to itunes. This has never happened and I'm not sure what it means. It will not come on.

Im not sure how to get his phone to come back on. Ive never seen an iphone do this. He updated to the latest version and it came up with a plug in on the screen with an arrow pointing to an itunes app looking thing. I'm sorry if this is confusing but I'm not really sure how to explain what it looks like.

    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

  • My iPod Touch shows USB and arrow pointing to iTunes

It's a newer generation that I bought a while back, but i tried to system restore so my little brother couldn't access my vital applications that i had installed previously.
Whilst plugged in, it said that a system update and iTunes update was required. However, neither fully finished. Instead, the iPod touch shows the generic USB cord with an arrow pointing toward the iTunes symbol.
Is there anything that i can do without having to pay for it to be fixed???

  • Screen displays usb cable with an arrow to a iTunes icon

My iphone works fine but ipod touch is not recognized by pc.
I have the latest update installed on pc.
How do I reset the ipod touch ?

What the screen shows is the operating condition.
Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer
