My phone is frozen.  What do I do?

My phone is froze and won't turn on or off.  Screen black except for "working" symbol which isn't moving.

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart, usually takes less than 10 seconds of holding both buttons.
If this does not work. Connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons.

My phone has started to freeze, when I pull the menu bar down, when I am in apps, just any time. when it freezes, the buttons do not work. The battery dies within an hour of being off the charger. I do not know what to do, or why it has started to do this. please help.

    Hello taylordoveriphone4,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning performance issues:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • I tried to update my iphone to ios 7.2.1 and now my phone is frozen what do i do!?

    HELP

    Reset the iPhone.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If you can unlock your iPhone now, tap Settings > General > About then scroll to: Version
If it still says the 7.1.1, then the update was not applied.
Use Recovery Mode. You can restore from a backup > iOS: Unable to update or restore

    Hey dougpm,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues updating your iPhone to iOS 7. If you have not already done so, you may want to restart or reset the iPhone:

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you'll want to restore your iPhone with iTunes:

  • My laptop died in the middle of updating my iPhone 4 and now my phone is frozen. What do I do?

My laptop died in the middle of updating my iPhone 4 and now my phone is frozen. What do I do?

First try forcing it to shut down: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds.
If you don't get anywhere, restoring it is the next step:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector)release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.

I upgraded my phone to ios 5 and had to restore it; now it is frozen. what do I do?

If your iPhone is frozen you must do a hard reboot,
Press-hold the Home button (big circle below the screen) and the Sleep/Wake button (on top of the iPhone) simultaneously.
Continue holding both buttons until the iPhone shuts off and begins to restart
Let go when you see the Apple Logo

My I phone is frozen with the apple stuck on the screen.  What doo I do?

  • My phone has frozen after its battery was completely finished. what to do?

my iphone 3gs was out of battery completely.
when i tried to recharge it it didnt recharge and now it is completely frozen.
    what can i do?

If the battery was discharged and that caused the phone to turn off, it may take up to 30 minutes or more for the phone to respond once it is plugged into the charger.
I suggest using the charger that came with the phone and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Then wait 30 minutes. After thirty minutes, and with the phone still plugged into the charger reset your phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the phone restart.
If the phone restarts, leave it on the charger until it is fully charged.
If the phone does not restart then check to make sure the lightning or dock connector port is free of any lint or other debris. You might also try a different cable and different charger. If none of these work its time to have you phone checked out by an Apple technician. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • My phone is frozen and it just has the apple logo on it what do i do

my phone is frozen on the apple logo.. how do i unfrozen it

Connect to Wall Charger and Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. Usually takes less than 20 seconds of holding both buttons.
If still problem, try reset again. If you decide to Restore Firmware with iTunes, then with iTunes open on computer connect iPhone to computer. Then hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the Firmware.

    Hi Careesa,
Your iPhone is in recovery mode-- you need to connect it to your computer and, most likely, iTunes will ask you to restore it. If you recently backed up this shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Whether you can use your phone in this way is entirely the responsibility of your phone company/carrier.  You need to contact them to see if you can add tethering to your phone plan.  Be warned though that it could get rather expensive, so if you don't really need it, then do without, but in any instance, you need to contact your phone carrier.
