HI Eric, thanks for responding, i have done that. it flashes a quick shut off and when i turn it back on nothing. i then tried to hook it up to computer with usb and itunes and it is not reading anything? any clue what could have happened? here is what i did ... earlier, my battery going low, so i decided to plug it in to outlet. when i went back to it, it didnt look like it ever charged and the black screen with apple was on it ..

First I did the update under general like I do every couple months. My phone came up with a screen, at the end of the update, that had a picture of the itunes icon and a picture of the iphone cord like I was supposed to connect to itunes. I did and itunes said that my phone needed to be "restored" to be reusable again, and the only option it gave me was to click the restore button. So I did and it went through a 30 minute restore session. Now my phone just shows the black screen with the apple icon and restarts over and over again. Clicking the buttons does nothing. It has been doing this for hours now. What do I do?

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

I connected my ipad to my laptop in the hopes of dowloading some photos i needed. It invited me to back up my data and update to ios 7.0.6. After 2 hours to download the software it then tried to install it and encountered an error. The ipad is now frozen to a black screen and the apple symbol. i cannot even power it off. I just loaded the 8.1 operating system on my iPad. It has been sitting for about 4 hours with the black screen and white apple with the bar underneath. What should I do?

I started loading 8.1 about 5 hours ago and it is still sitting with the black screen with the progress bar underneath. It shows that it is almost done loading - just has a tiny bit of the progress bar left.

I Don't know if this will work for anyone else but just FYI - after loading 8.1 on my iPad it froze for several hours on the black screen with white Apple and progress bar underneath. It would not do anything. I thought I was doomed. I accidentay left it sitting overnight without plugging it Back into the charger. I meant to but got sidetracked and thought it was plugged in. During the night the battery was totally drained so this morning my iPad was dead. I plugged it into the charger and after a few minutes the battery icon came up showing it was charging. I gave it about 30 minutes and then turned it on and the new operating system came up. It looks like it might be ok now. I can't say I recommend this, but it worked for me.

try hard reset ( hold the sleep and home button together for a few second the iphone will restart and then the an apple logo will appear)
if this didn't work try to restore you iphone and check if there are any updates available

I tried to upate the softwear but now when i go to turn it on it comes with with the gray screen and apple logo but with a bunch of letters and numbers at the top of the screen not letting me log on

I tried ot update the softwear and i clicked accept and it went grey while it said updating items. Once it finished after about 2 minutes it said restart so i pressed restart and the screen whent black, when i went to turn it on again the grey apple screen came up but with all these words and letters in the top let corner. In the middle and top of the screen mixed in with the rest of the letters it says unable to find driver for this platform

I hope you have a backup if you don't want to lose your iPad contents. You have to restore the iPad now using iTunes on your computer. That's what the message on the screen means.

Did you try to reset by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Does it work with headphones plugged in? If yes, did you try to play music in headphone mode, then unplug during playback and start playing music again after that?
If you toggle the volume, can you see the slider moving up or down?

Quit the videos app completely and then restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the videos app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didnt work, try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that still doesn't work, try this. Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in the name of any of your movies in the field at the top. When the movie appears in the search - tap on it and it should start to play. Let it play for a minute or so - hit done - go back to videos app and see if all is OK.
