My phone is in recovery mode. I need to get it out without restoring my phone. Im soooo frustrated I don't want to loose all of my data.

I need help before I through my phone out the window. I tried updating my phone and have had nothing but problems. It is now in recovery mode and iTunes is telling me I need to restore it back to the factory setup. I do not want to restore my phone, I am going to loose all of my data if I do this. How can I get my phone out of recovery mode? I have already tried holding how the power and home buttons, letting one go at a time and contenting to hold them down for a number of seconds blah blah blah blah blah. It doesn't work, I don't know what to do.

If the phone is in recovery mode, the data is already gone. You'll need to restore your information from your most recent back up.

I was going to say restore it... then you posted mentioning it got dropped in water.
Get it replaced or buy a new phone. You might be able to dry it out by placing it in a bag of uncooked rice or silica gel for a few days to a week, but it will most likely suffere permanent damage.

If not successful try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

It does not magically appear in a new place.  It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

I am connecting my iPhone to iTunes and all it is letting me do is restore my phone which I don't want to loose all my photos

There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
If you want to copy the photos off your phone (and they weren't originally to your phone from a computer) then on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard, and on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • When i put my iphone on charge or try to turn it on it says connect to itunes when i do that it says that my phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored!

Someone please help me, i really dont want to restore my iphone as i have really important things on it, the phone has not been backed up in a long while..
i dont know how this happend but i was trying to update tmy iphone like 2 days ago but the update didnt end up completing due to the battery percentage being below 50, anyways i ignored the update and thought id do it later, yesterday i got notifications saying that the phone will continue the update and restart in a few minutes or something along those lines i had the option to click restart later or something like that so i clicked on that, later on my phone died and i put it on charge, as it was turning on the apple logo came up with the dowload bar underneath it, you know when you update or restore your phone and it loads, it was like that, it was taking forever, like it took so long that i removed my phone from the charger and it just froze for a bit then turned off, when i tried turning it on again it told me to connect to itunes so i did and now its telling me that my phone is recovery mode and it needs to be restored!! Is there any way i could fix this problem without restoring my phone?
    Thank you

    Hey saandyy,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.

Plug it into iTunes and restore it with your backup.  You should have a backup in iTunes or iCloud.

  • I tried to restore and update my phone and now it is stuck in recovery mode. how do i get it out?

I can't get my phone out of recovery mode. Even if I restart it, all it says is that it needs to be plugged into iTunes. But when I do that, it tries to restore it again and it fails. How do I fix this?

i have this problem too! have you fixed yours yet?

  • I am willing to buy an iPhone 5c and its in recovery mode. Can I get it out off this? Its at a great price but I dont want to waste my money.

Is it possible to get my iPhone 5c out of recovery mode?

If the iPhone is in recovery mode simply due to a software issue (ie: a failed iOS update), it's very easy to get it out of recovery mode. It just needs to be restored.
If the owner is selling it and the only problem he/she mentions is that it's in recovery mode, it's very likely there are some other issues also. It could have a hardware problem that the owner is not revealing or is unaware of. It may also have been jailbroken and this can permanently brick the phone.
Best not purchase it as the odds of you ending up with a very colorful paperweight are high.

  • I put my iPad into Recovery Mode and can't get it out of it?

This probably sounds really silly but i forgot my password for my iPad ( don't the the generation but i think it is the first one that came out with a camera & ios7 (i think)) and put it in recovery mode. i do not know my apple id for the iPad (i have 2 apple accounts) my macbook is on a different account to my iPad and won't connect so i cant
get it out of recovery mode. i no longer have any other devices that has the iTunes account on either.
any ideas on how i can get it out of recovery mode or connect to iTunes would really help and please don't suggest go to the apple store, its a pain to get to and a pain to get a time i can go .
    Many Thanks In Advance x

Place your device into recovery mode as described here.  You may have to try this more than once to succeed.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
The version of iOS you had before attempting recovery mode does not matter.  Once the recovery successfully completes, you will have the current version (iOS 8.1.3).  You need the current version of iTunes (12.1) on your computer to perform the recovery.  Even if it goes smoothly, the recovery will take a while because it will include a download of iOS 8.1.3 to your computer (and then to your iPad).

Open iTunes. plug in your iPhone to the usb-port while holding the home button pressed. Your bricked phone should now show up in iTunes.
