My phone is saying no service once in a while, and always goes searching

I am using Iphone 3gs - 16GB, had it for 2 months bought it on ebay. It was working fine, without any probles suddenly for past two weeks it started this problem.
My phone is locked on o2 network, I use giffgaff sim and it was working fine...till it gave me the problem.
Iphone software version : 4.3.5
Problem noted, it just randomly Says searching ... and network is not displayed and sometimes it displays No Service.
What I have tried -
I turn on the airplane mode and off again - it doesn't seems to work as it says searching and than no service.
I tried, resetting the network settings and I have done the complete reset as well - by connecting to the itunes and clicking restore.
I have thought the problem might be on the sim and I have tried on other phones such as nokia n95 etc, they work fine no problems. I have also tried switching the giffgaff to o2 sim. It still show the same thing...searching and no service. So, I concluded it doesn't have any problem with the sim.
When this happens, I cannot make or receive calls that is obivious.
But, this work - > General > Settings > Network > Enable 3G ( I turned this option to off). Than it searches and displays O2-UK E with full bar. By, doing this I will be able to make calls and sometimes use internet. The signal bar randomly show bars although I am always on the same location at home. (At my home it always show full signal, ).
I have included some pictures take using the screenshot!
Above pictures were taken on the same day, same location at my home.
Can some one please help me with this problem, thanks!

Acording to Giffgaff's website, your iPhone needs to be unlocked to use their service.
How was your iPhone 3GS unlocked? If you jailbroke it, that might be what caused this problem, see -> Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues.
From your description, it sounds like you've covered the bases for the iPhone troubleshooting. Im not quite sure if you've restored the iPhone and set it up as a new device or not, but that may resolve the issue.
Ultimately, I think you're going to have to ask the question on the Giffgaff community, and giving them a call might not be a bad idea either.

Music wont play on my phone it says its there but its greyed out and wont play what do i do? Ive already re downloaded the music but its not playing on my iphone.

Ok i think i have found out how to do it. Unplug your i phone, go to settings and then reset then reset all data and settings. This will warn you that it is going to erase eveything on your phone.
DO NOT BACK UP BEFORE HAND
then restart your phone and restore back up from when you donwloaded the new IOS5. This should sort out your problem :-)

  • HP Pavilion dv6-3133nr overheats once in a while and shuts down

My fiancee has a laptop that overheats once in a while and shuts down. She says when she turns it back on, it gives an error saying "There's a thermal temperature of 90". Anyone have any idea how to resolve this? She says it doesn't happen when she's running alot of things, it just seems to happen sometimes. I have yet to see it happen or the error message.

Thank you. I will see if this works.

  • My iPod 4th generation screen shakes back and forth every once in a while and the touch screen stops working. Then I have to hit the sleep button on and off to make it work

My iPod touch 4th generation screen shakes back and forth every once in a while and won't let me use the touch screen. I have restored it at least 5 times to factory setting and it is still happening. The only way to stop it is to hit the sleep button off and then on again. It happens about once every 5 minutes. Please help.

If you successfully (completed all steps without errors) restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that points to a hardware problem. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • I have bought a second hand 3gs on O2 which was working fine and since restoring it (which put ios5 on) it now keeps saying no sim and has searching in the top left corner which then says no service once itunes asks for a sim to be inserted to activate?

I bought an iphone 3gs on o2 which was working fine till i restored it (which put ios5 on to it) now it wont activate, it keeps saying on itunes no sim inserted and on the iphone it has searching then says no service! Any ideas what i can do as cant get any further!

Some SIM cards were affected by iOS updates. Either contact O2 to get a replacement SIM or pop into a local phone shop and pick up a replacement SIM.
Once you have your new SIM, O2 have a swap my SIM page on their web site here:
    http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/
Follow the instructions on the O2 page and you should be up and running.
O2 do say it can take up to 24 hrs for SIM to be active, but I found it usually only takes half an hour or so before the new SIM is active.
    Hope this helps.

  • Have just arrived in New Zealand, and have connected to local wi fi network with go signal strength, but phone keeps saying no service?  Any idea what to do?

Have just arrived in New Zealand, have connected through local wi fi network, have good signal strength, but phone says no service, cant send texts out! any ideas?

Text messages are sent via the cellular network, not wi-fi. Only iMessages are sent via wi-fi. Unless you have roaming turned on for the phone, or you have an unlocked phone that you installed a local SIM, you would continue to see No Service. That reflects your cellular carrier service. Connecting to wi-fi has no bearing on your cellular service, which is what displays on the status bar of the phone near the signal bars (circles/dots).

  • My phone keeps saying no service how can i fix this?

my iphone keeps saying i have no service in an area where i always have service, what could be wrong?

It's the phone, well possibly the firmware on the phone.ots of people have this issue. I have O2 send three sim cards, run network diagnostics, send an engineer to check the nearest three mobile masts and everything was deemed to be running very well.
The only option I am left with, and O2 strongly recommended this, was to phone Apple Care and arrangement an appointment at the nearest Apple Store. After just three minutes on the phone the Apple employee had arrangement a phone replacement and he said the staff will not bother even asking questions apart from requesting identification which is pretty good... But worrying all the same. They were really quick to offer a replacement, I wonder if they are aware of a faulty batch or something.
I have your issue and I know how frustrating it can be, four bar 3G one minute and No Service the next. Have you had the equally annoying late SMS text arrivals yet?

  • Dropped phone - now says 'no service'

    Help!
I dropped my last the other evening and had to dismantle the phone (took boack covers off) to release a jammed on/off button. Now however, I've lost all reception - it's permanently saying 'No service.'
Any idea what it may be? I dropped phone from low-level, can't imagine it's done that much damage?
    Mont

It's apparently not reading your sim card. Power off the phone, remove and replace the sim card. Turn phone back on and see if you have service.

  • I was updating my iphone in itunes, then it said the update went wrong and now does not recognize the phone. Says that it is an unknown iphone and I must restore the phone. How can I get it back without deleting all of my stuff?

I was updating my phone in itunes and the "update went wrong" and now the phone is not recognized by itunes. I unattatched the phone and it wont turn on or off, just shows a picture of the itunes symbol and a usb cord. In itunes it says that it is an unknown iphone and is in recovery mode so I need to restore the phone. If I restore the phone I loose all my pictures, which I dont want to do...and my contacts. Is there any way around this, so I can get my phone back to normal without wiping it all out? Thanks

    To be more clear:
Was you phone hacked/jailbroken BEFORE you hooked it up?

  • I have voxer, and my phone keeps saying when I am trying to hold and speak, that voxer cannot record audio without a microphone, please connect a headset and try again.

I have downloaded voxer on my phone, it was working yesterday and today, I put my phone on my docking station and used voxer a few times while it was on there.  When I took it off and tried to send a new message my phone keeps saying when I am trying to record a new message, Voxer can't record audio with out a microphone, please connect a headset and try again?
does anyone know how to change it back so it will work again?
    thanks for your help

Try resetting your phone by pressing and holding the Home button and the power button unti the silver apple appears. If that doesn't work, contact the developer of the app.

  • Some contacts have disappeared from my phone contacts. They are still in the phone because if someone calls me their name appears and if i search in text for contacts they are still there - but if i search in phone contacts they are not there, Help

Some contacts have disappeared from my phone. Not all just random ones. They are still in the phone because if someone (who has disappeared from my phone contacts calls me their name appears and if i search in text messages for contacts they are still there - but if i search in phone contacts they are not there, Help!

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • Centro rings once, pauses 25 seconds and then goes to voicemail.

Subject pretty much says it all.  When someone calls my Sprint Centro they hear one ring, followed by 20-25 seconds of silence, and then voicemail.
Spent hours on the phone with Sprint trying to figure this one out and no luck.  Even did a hard reset of my phone which didn't help.  Sprint temporarily did an ESN swap back to my old flip phone and it works great.  So the issue is definately Centro related.
Anyone ever heard of this happening?
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

Nope can't say I have heard this before, but I will say just because it was working on your flip phone and isn't on your Centro doesn't mean its not a carrier issue. Your account could be working properly for standard phones but not have the proper provisioning for the Smartphone, to really tell if it is a device issue you should either have Sprint reprovision your account or have someone (possibly a friend) who has a smartphone that is working transfer do a esn swap and see if their account works fine on the phone.

  • My phone keeps saying "No Service", why?

I just got it today and did all i need to do. Since I'm using my old sim, i apparently had to call my carrier and tell them my IMEI # and stuff. I just did a while ago, told them the correct IMEI #, and they said they activated it or something. But the "No service" thing is still right there. I told them about that and they said that Apple gave me a wrong SIM or something, but I don't know if they'll do that since I bought it from the aunthentic one. I tried restarting it and restoring, but it wouldn't work. Help anyone?
Also, I think I'll go to the Apple store ASAP, should I still make an appointment or can I just walk in?

Best to make an appointment... But if you just got the Phone... Walk in...
