You could follow the instructions in the support document that you linked from. There is a section regarding the passcode and the inability to use it or enter it. However, you may encounter more issues since you cannot use the screen.

I need to turn off 'find my iPhone' so that I am able to restore my phone but my screen is not working. I logged into my iCloud but was not able to turn it from here. How do I do this?!

My iPhone 4 screen stopped working. The phone is still on but the screen is not working at all, it is juts black. I was told restoring my phone might solve this problem so i plugged it into iTunes. From your iCloud account, you can go to Find My Phone and remove the iPhone from your devices list which will release it, or you could do a remote erase of the iPhone from iCloud.

The pictures have already synced, but I need my password to do a full backup. Unfortunately, I can't type in my password. Is there any way around it? If I take my phone to the apple store, will they be able to help me? I am not willing to replace the screen just to do this, however, so that is out of the question.

Someone else may have a workaround, but, as far as I know, if you cannot interact with the screen on the iPhone, there is no way to unlock it so you can get to your contacts.
Were you saving them to iCloud by chance? If so, you can restore them to your new phone.

PLug it into yrou computer to sync/back it up.
Is it set to back up to iCloud now?
Or do you have wifi backup enabled in iTunes?
Plug it in while on wifi and it will automatically back up.

Frequently my 5800 touch screen is not working. Some times I am unable to use the screen. It's just hung. The call, menu and disconnect buttons only work during this time. Can any please let me know what might be the problem.?

Dear all,
I had the same issue with my nokia 5800, finally I found very interesting thing, I have been doing everything to bring my phone back to original condition where simply I can touch and access the phone.
Actually the issue was with the thin plastic piece which was put on the touch screen for its protection. I was struggling to touch and access the phone but i coudnt for almost 2 weeks, it was directing me to bottom left corner touch buttons of the phone and automatically opens and activate functional which I didn't want.
Solution was, I simply removed the thin plastic layer from the phone , Now it works fine.

I can not enter my passcode nor turn my phone off to back up my phone. I am getting a new iPhone and i need to back my current one right now, but iTunes is not letting me due to my passcode. Since my screen is not working, how can I back up my account without having to use my screen?

Do as the User's Guide suggests and restore the device.
If the device has been used as designed, contact would be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service and pictures taken with the device would regularly be copied off to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have not been using the device as designed, the data is likely lost and you've learned a valuable lesson about backing up your data.

Basic troubleshooting steps outline in the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. Try each of these in order until the problem is resolved. If you've been through all these steps and the trouble persists, you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation. Be sure to make an appointment first at the Genius Bar so you won't have a long wait.

I am seeing if I can get another battery even though I do not believe that is the issue. It keeps giving me vdd_under which I believe is under voltage, maybe it is just a faulty battery? It charges up like normal and functions normal (when plugged in, or above 90%) but it gives under voltage warnings and shuts down when in heavy use (using camera or going back and forth to imessage). When just sitting idle it doesn't seem to turn off until that 55-60% mark. It may just be a faulty battery because I feel I installed all of the other cables correctly when replacing the screen, and I don't think those connections should affect the battery anyway except for maybe the logic board cable (the 2nd cable to be unplugged after the battery cable) I guess I could clean that out as well with isopropyl just in case.
Any other suggestions would be helpful... and I will get back to you if a new battery helps. Thanks!

If your iPhone screen is broken or damaged so that it is not possible to enter anything, then you will not be able to unlock it if you have set a passcode and you will not be able to communicate with it in any way.
At this point you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians check it out and see what can be done. If you are in the US, some Apple stores here are now able to replace the screen on an iPhone 5-series device. Otherwise they do an out-of-warranty replacement for $269 if the failure is due to damage.

Depends on the damage. The battery came loose in my iPhone. When Apple opened the phone to redo the glue they discovered the speakers were also loose. Apple replaced the phone.
If the glue was properly bonded or had some other flaw Apple will replace the device if the device is still under warranty.

my screen will not work, ive restared it numerous times and i have also restored it and it still wont work, what should i do?

i am having this same problem. i have a iphone edge running 2.2.1 the screen has a crack but this has never been a problem. After getting frustrated with the phone i left it alone for a few months. I went back to it and restored it many times and got it working. however this only lasted for a few days im am now back to a unresponsive screen now nothing i can do is working. i have dealt with the apple store before and would prefer not to again. any help fixing this would great i bought the phone in nov, 2008 and it has worked great till now.
