My phone won't ring, it only vibrates.

It is not my mute button, the volume is turned up and the settings are correct. It is also not related to use of headphones. Any clue why it isn't working?

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

  • Main speaker stopped working. Phone does not ring, sound only through earpiece/headphone. What to do?

main speaker stopped working. Phone does not ring, sound only through earpiece/headphone. What to do?

I spoke to the reseller today and they aggred to exchanged it. They didn't elaborate on the actual cause but thought that it had to be a hardware issue.
It could either be the issue that Euvix suggested or it could be as simple as the outer speaker is simply not working.
Anesi, did you use the phone before the upgrade? Looking at what you've written I take you didn't so I would go back and get it exchanged.

  • Phone won't ring speaker doesn't work

I just updated to ios7 and now my iphone verizon 4s and now my phone won't ring and the speaker won't work.  Do not disturb is not on and it's not in silent mode????

Have you tried going into settings -> sounds and seeing if they were disabled there?

Help my moms 3gs iphone won't ring. We have tried everything from resetting the phone and checking the side of it. Help us.

A divert is a function that allows you to either forward calls to another phone, or directly to answer phone.  I'm not 100% if those functions are available for AT&T (I'm from the UK).
Can the iPhone 3GS play music fine? Can the volume be adjusted during playback, and is it loud and clear?
It's also worth checking to see if the "ringtone" hasn't been changed.
    Settings > Sounds > Ringtones
Select a different ringtone and it should give you a sample.  Try that and see if the phone rings when you get a call.
Are you close to a local Apple store? It's worth getting some 1-to-1 time with one of their Geniuses.

    Hello stinkeone,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Since you have already verified your settings are configured correctly for ringtones, I'd like you to first reset your iPhone by following the directions in the first article below.  If the issue persists, then please back up your phone, and restore it as new using iTunes.

  • Phone won't turn on, just vibrates when plugged in

Last night, I plugged my phone in before bed.  It showed on the battery icon that it was charging, and the red charge indicator light was on once the display turned off.  However, by the time I woke up, the phone was dead, though still plugged in.  I couldn't get it to do anything, so I tried an old battery that I had.  Put the battery in, the phone turned on and showed a 47% charge.  Knowing that battery was garbage (which is why I got a new one; I just held onto the old one for emergencies), I put the phone on the charger and the battery icon showed charging.  Instantaneously, though (I'm not exaggerating, it was literally instant), the phone dropped to a 1% charge.  I quickly tried to turn the phone off to see if I could even get even a little bit of an efficient charge out of it, and the phone started power cycling.  I tried to stop it, but it turned itself off and on probably 20 times before it finally totally died (kind of reminded me of how sometimes an sick animal will go bat guano bonkers before it kicks it).
Now, when I try to plug the phone in it just pulse-vibrates every 2 or so seconds instead of showing that it's charging.  It will continue to vibrate like that for a minute or two after I take it off the charger before it finally stops.  Won't turn on in any mode, plugged in or not - I do get a flicker of the opening "Samsung Galaxy" screen before it shuts off and goes back to vibrating.  I've tried to let it charge for 30-45 minutes, but no change.  Taken the battery out, smacked it a few times, tried to charge with my computer, tried different cables/chargers, nothing helps.  I have no idea if either battery has any charge at all at this point (though I suspect not).  I haven't damaged my phone at all - no recent/significant drops, no water - but of course I'm just barely barely out of warranty.  Am I toast or is there some way to fix this?

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, since (as I clearly noted in my original question) my phone will not turn on, I can't confirm the phone software, though I've downloaded any and all updates that I've been notified of.  I have no idea if any apps updated immediately prior to the issue happening; it's likely that some update to something downloaded not long before the problem started since I plugged in the phone shortly after I got home for the evening and reconnected to my home WiFi, but I wouldn't have any way to tell you what it might be.  My phone will not boot in safe or recovery mode either, if that helps answer if an app is causing the issue.
I tried to take it to a Verizon store; they told me that they had literally NEVER heard of my issue before and so wouldn't be able to fix it and didn't even attempt to help, just tried to sell me a new phone, so that wasn't super helpful.  Since I had zero problems up to this point with my phone, and because I'm now not eligible for the early upgrade to the Edge program without the early termination fee because I don't have a working phone, it sure would be great to fix the one I have.  If anyone else has any advice, I'd appreciate it!

  • Since last upgrade my phone won't ring when I get a call or text message

Anyway to get phone to ring when I get a call or message. Since the last upgrade it will only ring occasionally

    Hi BrendaQ,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone does not ring when you receive calls or messages, start with these steps:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • Phone won't ring

The ringtone on my phone has suddenly stopped working. It still vibrates, but no ring. The settings seem to be correct and the volume is up high. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hey karenj_50,
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not showing a orange dot.
There is a picture of the switch on page 23 of the iPhone User Guide:

  • Original iPhone using 2.0 and now the phone won't ring

Anyone else have an issue with your 1st gen iPhone not ringing after installing 2.0? I have shut it off (then turned it back on), reset it, reinstalled 2.0 a couple times but the phone still will not ring. Oh and yes the phone is not set to silent using the switch above the volume control.
Second issue is iPod sometimes will not play through speaker, works when after reset.

I am now on my 4th 1st generation iphone. I bought the phone new. I've now had to see the "genious" people more times than I'd care to. They "say" they replace with new phones!!!? The latest issues is that it shuts itself down and will not start without resetting it. Then, once that's done, and I shut it down, it will not start back again. The "genious" on the phone says to restore it to factory.. and again, SAME issue. Buggy is not even close. I bought the bluetooth, and that was 2 "new" iphones, plus 3 new bluetooth headsets. So, here I go again, to the APPLE "genious" bar again.. In total, I've spent more time on this phone, fixing it's numerous issues.. Not to mention... GAS PRICES>>>>>>>> I wonder if they have a reimibursement form for how much gas I've had to use to see these idiots?...Makes me want to return it, and go back to my treo!.... Anyone else haveing these issue, please contact me directly... I'm all about a product working correctly... and spending the money on the first gen. phones, just ticks me off. [email protected]

  • My phone won't ring

Why would my iPhone just stop ringing?

    Hi Kylee Cosmo,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would check is to make sure the ring/silent switch is not set to silent (muted).

Then, restart and/or reset the iPhone:
