My photos edited in Photoshop or distorted after editing in iPhoto

ADOBE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIFIC!  I'VE BEEN ON HOLD TWICE FOR 1.5 HOURS.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I NEED TECH SUPPORT - AND NOT ONE PERSON IS THERE TO HELP.  SERVICE IS THE WORSE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE.

Regarding Adobe customer service and tech support, Adobe only supports the current version of Photoshop, which is CS6.
These forums are user to user forums.  We're all users here.
That being said, as an avid Mac user since 1984, I can categorically assure you that Apple's iPhoto does not play nice with Adobe applications.
Curt's remark about iPhoto hiding your actual images in "libraries" is right on target.  If you can see the file icon without opening the application package (please refer to Apple's documentation for instructions of how to Open a Package by Control-clicking [or right-clicking with a two-button mouse] on the application package icon in the Finder) you are not looking at your original or full-resolution file.  You're just looking at the low-resolution JPEG preview embedded in the file for display purposes.  Attempting to edit or manipulate that image in Photoshop would be futile.
Beside the suggestion to upgrade Photoshop, I can only offer you my personal opinion that, from the point of view of an Adobe Photoshop user and Macintosh fan, iPhoto is an unmitigated piece of cr@p, plain and simple.

How can I add "Edit with Photoshop CS5" to the Edit With options?

I think it has something to do with the order in which the PSE and PS are installed on your machine.
For me, I can see option for editing in photoshop both in edit menu and from the action bar. I probably had Photoshop installed on my system before PSE

  • "Edit in Photoshop" not working after 3.3 update...

It seems as though after updating to version 3.3, my "edit in photoshop" functionality has stopped working.  When I choose this option, Photoshop will open, but Lightroom does not bring up a dialog for exporting the photo, nor do I see a progress bar in lightroom for exporting of the photo as I used to.
I can (and have) create a user preset for exporting to accomplish the same functionality, but has anyone else experienced this problem?  is there a quick fix?

Sorry, I did not get it before that PS opens but no image.
Well, LR 3.3 and CS3 are not fully compatible indofar as CS3 cannot open a RAW image that has been rendered with the new ACR of LR3.
It was still possible under LR 3.2 - I've done it nuemerous times, but was told on this forum that this was only due to a "bug" that had been "fixed" in LR 3.3.
I now have CS5 but still have CS3 installed.
When I try to open a RAW image from LR 3.3 with CS3 all what happens is that LR renders a TIFF (my specification for Additional External Editor) but CS3 does not open.
So, maybe you have to bite the bullet and upgrade to CS5.
Or, export your Raw Image as a psd and then open it from CS3.

  • Lightroom 5.5 will not "Edit in Photoshop CC 2014" after update

OK, seems like something is broken with the new updates. In Lightroom I can no longer "Edit photo in Photoshop." I have the proper program designated in LR preferences. I select a photo, select Edit in Photoshop CC 2014, PS launches but the photo never appears....

  • Why don't PS Elements 12 edited photos properly save in version sets after editing?

This is a problem that never occurred in PS Elements 11. But if I edite a photo that is currently in Organizer with PS Element Editor and save it after editing, it only gets properly included in Organizer and made part of the version set about 20% of the time. The rest of the time the edited file gets saved in the same folder as the original but has not been added to Organizer. The appropriate check boxes in the Save As screen are checked. But 4 out of 5 times it behaves as if the boxes are not checked.  I have done several photos in sequence and used the same exact keystrokes and only one or two will be included in the version set. I then have to go "Get" the version and bring it into Organizer and tell the program to Stack the two photos. It is a pain to do it that way. Does anybody have a clue why it is not working as it is suppose to?

Known bug in converted catalogs. It works correctly if you create a new catalog or a workaround for converted catalogs is to kill the ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe process in Task Manager.

  • Edit in Photoshop and retain LR edits in LR 3

Every time I select Edit in Photoshop CS5 I loose my Lightroom 3 edits. How do I retain my Lightroom 3 edits like I used to be able to in LR2
    Jim

    Hello Jonathon,
Thank you for the reply. It appears that the edits made in lightroom are being passed to photoshop the way LR 2x would act when selecting "Edit with Lightroom adjustments". I just do not get any options. Photoshop is opened and the image is passed to Photoshop as a DNG.
I have checked all the Lightroom preferences and cannot see anything that is configurable that could cause this behavior. I checked my LR 3 in Vista and LR 3 in Windows 7 and they act identically.
The original problem of not keeping the adjustments corrected itself when I removed the beta version of Photoshop CS5.

  • Pressing forward slash (deselect active photo) instead of backslash (before and after edits)

In the Develop module, when editing, I sometimes make the mistake of pressing the wrong slash key and end up with the message No Photo Selected instead of the 'before' view that I wanted. If I have similar pictures, I find it hard to recover from this - when I go back to the Library module to try to track down my picture, it's been deselected, of course.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance - Helen

As soon as you realize you have pressed the wrong key you can press Cmd/Cntrl + Z.
This will undo what you just did, which is press the wrong key.

  • How to edit and save a file ( after edit in CS6 in LR)   to keep it in LR collection  where it was?

I understood that I could select a file from a LR collection, start editing it in LR then pass it to CS6 (I chose the option to make a copy and keep the LR changes) , makes the changes in CS6 and save it from CS6 (Saved it as a PSD file) .Afterwards I can see 2 files (one being the original file, the other the PSD file saved  in CS6  in the original folder of the file, which is fine  ) but the file seems to have disappeared from the LR collection. I am new to LR.

When you edit in CS6, do you do a "Save" or "Save As..."? You need to do a Save and not a "Save As..." You also can't change the file type from whatever it was when Lightroom created the file.
Works for me when I do it that way.

  • Photoshop CS faults after upgrade to iPhoto 6

This may be off topic, but I am not finding relevant info elsewhere. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.
An artist friend upgraded to iPhoto 6 recently. Since then she has problems with EPS files created in Photoshop CS when saving them as jpg. She uses an iMac G5 running osx 10.4.8.
The file appears to save but when viewed in Preview or sent in an email, the image background is all black and the drawing lines are odd colors, all muted.

Can you describe the process by which the file is converted from eps to a jpg with PS and then saved? What color mode was it in to start and at the completion. Is she embedding a color profile in the jpg when it's saved? Will it open in Safari OK?
I use PS but not with esp files so if you can walk me thru it I'll see what I can do.
    Do you Twango?

  • Can't move photos from SD card to Trash after download into iPhoto

The past few times I've tried to delete photos downloaded via a card reader from my SD card to iPhoto, I have been unable to do so.
I receive the message: "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. Error code -61."
This problem only started with the last four or five photo downloads I've made.
    Any suggestions? Thanx.

Try reformatting your card with your camera. That will clear the card and probably fix the issue as well.
And is a better workflow since it eliminates the possibility of losing photos due to a computer glitch and renews the format of your card every time

  • Lightroom shows "no photo selected" after editing jpg in Photoshop

I am running Lightroom 5.3 and Photoshop 14.2.1x64 on Windows 7, 64-bit, 16gb RAM, plenty of free disk space (90gb on drive C).  I am in Lightroom and have selected a subset of the library (using a key word clicking on the keyword's "right arrow" next to its count in the key word list).  I then view a photo in the loupe view and right click, selecting "Edit in Photoshop CC" and checking "Edit a Copy".  This takes me to Photoshop, where I edit the photo and save both as a .psd file and re-save the jpg copy, overwriting the copy that Lightroom made.  When I go back to Lightroom (by reactivating the window), the copy flashes momentarily and then disappears from the window, replaced by the message "no photo selected" in the loupe view.  When I go back to grid mode, I am back to the first photo in the selected group of photos and I then have to scroll through and find the photo I just edited (the jpg copy is still in Lightroom).
This problem did not occur when I first installed and used Lightroom.  Rather, Lightroom would continue to display the edited jpg photo in loupe view when I returned to Lightroom from Photoshop.  Now, however, it never does.  Is there some Lightroom setting I accidentally changed?  What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.
    Jon

I'm using ProPhoto RGB in Photoshop.  I have a test file that shows this issue: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84023411/shadows_test.psd
This is a 16-bit ProPhoto RGB image with just 2 colors.  The top part of the image is filled with RGB 10,10,10 and the bottom half is 0,0,0.  If I open this file in Photoshop and use Apple's DigitalColor Meter utility to read the displayed values of the color of the top, using "Display native values", the result is 18,18,18.  I expect it to be different than 10,10,10 due to the display profile but I would expect the same image viewed in Lightroom's Develop module to also read as 18,18,18 in the top half.  But when I do this (import the PSD into Lightroom and open in Develop) the Meter reads 12,12,12.  If I view the PSD in Loupe mode in Lightroom the Meter reads as expected, 18,18,18.
The difference should also be noticeable to your eye (at least mine) without using any measurements.
The result is that the dark shadows appear crushed when editing in Lightroom Develop mode.
The problem happens on both my 2008 Mac Pro with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU and on my 2013 MacBook Air, although the values read on the Air are different than the Pro due to display profiles.
Normally, of course, I'm editing a RAW file in Lightroom and open that up in Photoshop (cmd+e), but this test seems to show that it happens with non-RAW files.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • Working in DNG - Edit in Photoshop - Rework on DNG

    Hi there,
I'm bit confused by this whole thing about DNG and editing in Photoshop for pixel based editing and so on...
Let's say I have some photos in RAW and I convert them do DNG using Lightroom, then, I do some modifications and update the DNG metadata so I don't have to export the changes to a new DNG file.
Now, there's something I need to edit in my photo, for instance, remove a person that's on my photo and I don't want it, I need Photoshop for that. How should I go in doing this? (not the actual person removal)
I mean, if I click on the photo and then on "Edit in Photoshop" I'm presented with a dialog that only allows me to edit a copy of my DNG file and I leave all the options at their defaults (TIFF, bla bla bla...). A TIF file is created alongside the same directory of the DNG file and Photoshop is opened.
How do I go and edit my file in Photoshop, save the changes and apply those changes made in Photoshop to the DNG file I was working before?
Basically, I want to keep my photos as DNG but the problem is how do I do that if I need to do some pixel based changes. I ask this because Photoshop does not allow me to save files in DNG format. And if I edit the TIF file in Photoshop and save it, back at Lightroom, I'll have 2 files, one in TIF and the other in DNG. The DNG is the original where the TIF is the edited one. However, the TIF file lost all of the original settings, for instance, I had a cropping and if I go to the DNG file I can change the cropping if I think it needs retouching but I can't do that to the TIF.
Does this mean that I should all my pixel based editing before I decide to develop my photo in Lightroom? What if I forgot or what if I only realize I need to do some more pixel based editing after starting developing my photo in Lightroom?
P.S: Sorry for the long post...

But you cannot have it both ways. It doesn't work that way, and it never will. Lightroom editing, as well as ACR editing, is stored as metadata. But once you open the image in Photoshop you are switching over to pixel editing. You are changing the actual pixel data in your image. That is why we cannot save Photoshop changes back to the DNG file or the original raw file. That is also why a new file has to be created. Lightroom just does it at the beginning when it transfers the image to Photoshop.
Everyone has their own workflow, and I'm not suggesting that you follow mine. But I do as much editing as I possibly can in ACR. I don't have Lightroom, but Camera Raw (ACR) works under the same principle. When I have done as much as I can in ACR I save my work as a PSD or TIF image, and that is the file that I use as my master for creating other versions. You just have to rethink your workflow because you cannot save Photoshop changes back to your raw images. It isn't logical, and it is not desirable.

  • Edit in Photoshop not working from Lightroom

Hi, I've just upgraded to CS5 and LR 3.2. From within LR I can Edit in Photoshop Elements but the Edit in Photoshop doesn't work. Just get some screen refresh flashing around, "Loading" displays then nothing. Even with CS5 already up and running. Anyone got any good news for me?
    John

If configuring it as above didn't work, did you by chance, after doing the upgrade, remove an earlier adobe product?  This often happens when people upgrade by installing CS5 and LR, then uninstall CS4, for example.  You need to (easiest way) reinstall CS5 and LR should be able to see it.
There are other threads in the archive about it..
If, of course you haven't uninstalled anything, then there are other remedies in the archives as well (including a registry update method).
    In any event, good luck!
    Cheers!
