My photos have been scattered throughout different folders.

Also the correct file name does not appear on the top line when I display photos.  It's like something just came in and mixed it all up.  It seems to have only happened to recent photos and the older ones I think are ok.  I am using PSE 9.  I recently had to switch external hard drives and reconnect my catalog to the new hard drive.  But that seemed to be OK except for losing most of the tags on my photos.
When I tried to import missing files (because they are still on the harddrive) I get the message that the files already exist.  However they are not showing in the files they are supposed to be in.
I don't know what to do, I have a very large catalog which includes lots of digital scrapbook downloaded files.
Please help!

-all of my photos and downloaded images are on a single external drive
-I tried to do a backup from organizer, but I kept getting errors when I was doing it.  I think some of the files were "corrupted", so I was never able to do a complete backup.  I have almost all of my photos on cd's that I make as I add a new folder.  However, I don't have my scrapbook downloads on cd's, only on the hard drive.  And I have a lot of those files.

-It took me many days and attempts to get it done.  I tried several ways, but I think the final way I got it done was through windows, copying and pasting (while the old drive was working because it was an intermittent problem with that drive).  Then I reconnected through the organizer.
-I just tried to reconnect and chose "all missing files", but didn't see where to "select all", and the message came up as no missing files.
-yes I had them named.  Most of the photos were in folders named by date of entry into pse.  The scrapbook files were named by specific kit names.
I checked in my computer and looked at the hard drive and the photos are in the correct files there (Thank you God!).  My folders are listed by date and then the named ones, alphabetically.  The last few folders are scattered through the recent dates and then trickle down through the alphabetical folders.  And then the alphabetical (scrapbook) folder contents look like they have just been "pushed" down 5 or 6 folders.
I have thought of trying a system restore, or reinstalling PSE9.  But I thought I would start with this forum, so I don't do something unnecessary or make anything worse.
Thanks for any help.

  • "Photos have been found in iPhoto library that were not imported" .. There's no Import Folder to delete

Please read the entire post prior to giving a response.
Our 2011 MBP has had this problem for a while.  15 photos have been found in iPhoto library that were not imported (twice .. every time).  I've seen several posts that all have the same answer .. find the import folder in iPhoto, remove it and all will be fine with the world.  Some say, it's importing folder, some say auto import folder, but all say it's a folder.  Problem is, there is no such folder.  I've looked throughout the computer .. applications, iPhoto, right click to show package contents, searched and searched .. nada.  NO such folder exists.  There are quite a number of files labeled "ImportPanels.nib" and "SelectiveImport.nib" all under "Other".  There are also a number of import.tiff files with various names under "Preview".  But NO folder with IMPORT in the name.
So, how do I get rid of the never ending 15 photos have been found in iPhoto library that were not imported?  Help that doesn't repeat what's already been noted above in other posts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
(BTW .. it has Mavericks installed and everything is currently updated.)

I have no idea where you are looking.  I have nothing even similar to that.  When I go to Finder and click on Applications and then right click iPhoto (not iPhoto Library .. I have nothing with that name) and click on Show Package Contents, I have just one folder "Contents".  That opens to _CodeSignature, _MASReceipt, Frameworks, Library, MacOS, Plugins, Recurces and XPCServices .. no other folder exist.
(I have show .. iMovie, iMovie 9.0.9, iPhoto, iTunes, iWork '09, Keynote, etc ..  No iPhoto Library Folder is listed.)
If I go to Launchpad and right click the iPhoto icon, it opens iPhoto.  You say not the application, but I have no idea were else to find this other than Finder which is only the iPhoto application and the icon in Launchpad and the Dock.
When I click the Library folder, the only folder is Loginterms which opens to iCloud Photos.
There isn't any folder names Auto Import or anything close.  Searches don't help as they only find files, not folder names.
In your picture, it shows iPhoto Library as the header .. mine never shows that, it's always the folder name.
Where is the iPhoto Library Package?

  • Always get this msg when starting iPhoto:4 photos have been found in the...

I ALWAYS get this message when I start iPhoto:
4 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported.
Would you like to import them?
If I click 'NO' it then says:
The photos have been placed in the folder /Users/HomeOffice/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_22.
(22 being the number of folders I now have - not visible in iPhoto - that contain these mysterious pictures)
If I click 'YES' it then creates a 'Recovered Photos' Album - visible in iPhoto.
The thing is, it does this EVERY time and there are no photos to be seen when I try to look at them to see what they are/delete them...
So, what can I do to get rid of these files from my system and stop the endless cycle of 'Recovered Photos' folder creation when there seems to be nothing there??
    Any help is MOST appreciated.
    Thanks

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
    Regards

  • "6 photos have been found...not imported"

From the first day that I had my iMac 27", 18 months ago, iPhoto has alerted me "6 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported"
Whether I say I want them imported, or that I don't, nothing seems to happen. I get the dialog every time I open iPhoto.
If I say No, then I am told "The photos have been placed in the folder /Users/bruce/Pictures/iPhoto Library recovered Photos_x" where 'x' is a number.
When I check the folder, it is empty.
I currently have 67 such empty folders, and while it is simple to delete them - as I have been doing regularly, it seems weird to have to.
Does anyone have any idea how I can establish which 6 files - it is always 6 - are causing this iPhoto blip?

Another thread says "Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed."
This does show a heap of stuff.
Problem now is that my library is critical to me, and I don't want to chance messing it up, although I have Time Machine permanently on, though have never used it to restore.
So I'll probably stick with what I've been doing.

  • Photos Have Been Found in the iPhot Library...

After a family vacation, I accidentally connected one camera device while my iPhone was also uploading. Now, every time I open iPhoto, I get a pop-up that says, "3 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported. Would you like to import them?"
Regardless of whether I click "Yes" or "No" it gives me a second pop-up that says, "The photos have been placed in the folder /Users/[Name]/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos." It does this twice, no matter what I choose, and I end up with two "iPhoto Library Recovered Photos" folders in my Pictures folder.
The un-imported files are locked (though I can unlock each of them in the Get Info screen) Unix Executable Files. Due to the date of creation and size info, I know that they are (or, at least, are artifacts of) video files, and the actual videos have been imported into iPhoto.
I tried the advice I have seen around here to remove the folders and relaunch iPhoto, but the pop-ups come back, and the folders just keep piling up.
I don't want to keep deleting these folders every time I look at pics. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Quit iPhoto and to to the iPhoto library (by default in your pictures folder) - right click (control click) on it and select show package contents - find the folder named import (on importing) and drag it to the desktop - DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES - launch iPhoto and you will be fine.
Open the import(ing) folder and if there is nothing in it that you need move it to the trash and empty the trash

Whenever I try to open iPhoto, a message comes up saying that 148 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that have not been imported. It asks me if I want to import them and I say NO but then it places them in a recovered photo folder. I keep deleting the empty recovered photo files but it just keeps asking me every time I go to open iPhoto! I'd love to just get rid of the "found" photos (I can't open them anyway!)
How do I get rid of them so that I can just open iPhoto straight up without this?
    Linda

Open your iPhoto Library package with the Finder.
look for a folder titled Import or Importing and move it to the Desktop. Launch iPhoto to see if the message goes away.  If there is no message  check the contents of the Import folder to see if you want to keep any of those image files (usually they have not been imported into iPhoto). If you want to keep them then drag the folder into the open iPhoto window to import.

  • Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes. Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod. Only podcasts are affected.

I have not seen this precise issue addressed anywhere. I don’t know if it’s an iTunes or an iPod problem:
    - Some, but not all, podcasts existing on the iPod no longer appear in iTunes;
this, after normal behavior for more than a year since purchase of the iPod.
    - Different podcasts have been affected at different times, after changes in the state of the iPod.
    - Only podcasts are affected.
    - This concerns an iPod nano 6th gen. and iTunes 11.0.2 (26) on System 10.6.8
    - The only change to iTunes, the Mac, or the iPod is that just before this condition began
I’d begun syncing an iPhone via iTunes.
I sync manually (“manually manage music and videos”). The first time this happened, I wanted to delete seventeen podcast episodes (all belonging to one podcast) existing on the iPod — but they didn’t show up in iTunes. I tried re-downloading them and re-syncing, to see if the new versions would somehow “re-link” to iTunes. They didn’t. Only one — new — episode appeared in iTunes.
I ultimately reset the iPod and manually resynced all the podcasts I currently had on iTunes. That worked, though I had to painstakingly add in all the other content deleted by the reset.
So: after that reset and manual sync, all podcasts and episodes on the iPod were visible to iTunes and I was able to delete the podcast and its — now 18 — episodes I’d wanted to get rid of to begin with. But the next time I connected the iPod, only 8 podcast episodes out of 21 episodes total existing on the iPod were visible to iTunes. These are different podcasts; I’d deleted the original “invisible” ones.
By “visible,” I mean in the “Podcasts” list view under “[name]’s iPod” in the iTunes sidebar. If I select “[name]’s” iPod in the iTunes sidebar and the “Podcasts” tab, all podcasts and episodes are visible, though greyed out because I’m set to sync manually. It’s unclear to me if these are the podcasts on the iPod or those currently in iTunes, as they are currently the same. If I switch to syncing automatically, all content on the iPod will be lost again, so I’m not up to trying it at the moment.
As I said,  this involves only podcasts. All other content on the iPod does appear in iTunes.

I have the same problem- i see my movies in the ipod section in itunes and they even show as mpeg4 in the 'kind' section but they dont have that small TV icon next to them. if i play these in itunes, they play fine- but try playing them on the ipod and all you hear is the sound and no picture. All videos that i manually transfer work fine in the beginning- its when i hook up the ipod to the comp again and start itunes- they start showing up without the 'tv' icon!! i have to again transfer them from the itunes library to activate them as videos.
    Need Help!!!

  • Photos have been found in the iPhoto Library folder that were not imported

Whenever I start iPhoto, I get an error that says:
5 Photos have been found in the iPhoto Library folder that were not imported. Would you like to import them now?
    http://www.fredmccann.com/error.png
If I say no, the dialog goes away but you get it the next time you start iphoto. If I say yes, then iphoto tries to import something (I don't know what) and hangs. I've let it run for two hours and nothing ever gets imported. What's worse is that every time I try to let it import, it increments the number of pictures it thinks is missing. The first time it said 3 photos. I let it attempt an import and it froze. The next start it claimed there were 4. It's up to 5 now and I've figured out that letting it try to import whatever it thinks is missing is a bad idea.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. This Apple KB document may have the solution to your problem: Unimported photos found in Library when iPhoto is launched.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • HT1386 I have sync an ipad with a new computer and the photos have been transfered into files with no extensions. I can view them on the ipad but canot view and delete from the computer.

I have synced a new computer with the ipad and the photos have been transferred as a file with no exstention. I cannot view them on the computer but can on the ipad.

Well I forget the exact keys, but believe pressing and holding down CTRL before clicking Restore will allow you to browse and find the backup file (may be wrong).
In the end, as far as the iPhone thinks, it is a new computer so it will erase and resync stuff and as long as you loaded everything back into iTunes all should sync back. Main issue is other stuff like the data within the apps, notes, etc that are part of the backup which is why you would want to try to restore from the backup. If you don't mind losing data in apps (eg: do you care you have to relog into some apps and start over, don't care about game scores, etc) then you don't have to worry about the backup. If you have important data in some of those apps then you will need to restore from the backup.

Can anyone assist witth the following query
What determins order photos are transferred, my photos have been numbered and appear in the correct order on the laptop but transfer in a random order in some albums irrespective of title or date taken.
Can i alter any setting to ensure photos will transfer in a logical order to track the history of the events in any particular album folder.

Thanks for this, I have checked the dates in case the camera settings had been lost unfortunatly in this instance all pics are dated in correct order but not transferred in date order, or date modified order, or is the date config based on US date atyle?

  • After restoring from backup on iCloud, my photos have been "downloading" for 2 days with no progress at all.

After restoring from backup on iCloud, my photos have been "downloading" for 2 days with no progress at all.  Everything else seems to by fine, however. I have all my apps, contacts, even my photostream back, but my camera roll has said "downloading 137 of 1,345" for two days.  I really don't want to have to start over as the whole process took almost 3 hours. Help?

Someone mentioned that syncing with ITunes, making sure that photos are being synced - even with an empty folder, fixed the problem.  I tried it and it didn't work for me.  Anyone got any answers that don't include losing the photos or erasing and restoring from backup again?

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Been using g iPhone 6 for few months, just backed up my iPhone 5, restored my pics etc onto 6 but all original photos have been deleted, Is there a way I can get them back?

If you are backing up to your computer, check in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, if there is more than your recent iPhone 6 backup listed. If yes, transfer the photos from your phone to the computer first, then restore from the backup. After that, transfer the recovered photos again to your computer and sync all of the transferred pictures to your phone, using iTunes and the settings in the photo pane.
