My photoshop is broken

hi, i have had a problem for a while now and i am not really sure why.
My problem is using the brush tool in Photoshop, while i am using it, it is fine, there are no problems but when i unclick to stop drawing on my trackpad and try to to scroll using two fingers on my trackpad nothing happens, my artwork doesn't move until i them command click back into the photoshop window, it then goes crazy and does all of the scrolling i tried to do before i command clicked back in.
The same sort of thing is happening with a lot of the other tools, when i use the spot healing brush the area selected stays the dark grey colour until i command click back into photoshop then it will heal the area.
The lasso tool shows the selection but does not start the marching ants until i command click again. The polygon lasso tool lags behind clicks, for example, when i click nothing happens, i then click again and nothing will happen, when i click for the third time the first two dots then connect, when i click again the next dots will connect but will never connect to the last dot until i click i join the shape up and click once more, which then makes the shape disappear.
I am having the same sort of problem with the clone stamp tool, the history brush,  the eraser, the blur, sharpen, smudge, dodge, burn, sponge tools, i guess any tool that has a brush size. and all of the lasso tools. All of the other tools work fine to my knowledge.
I think it has something to do with apples track pad, today i tried using a mouse and it worked fine, i could draw a line and then scroll with the little ball in the apple mouse and it worked fine, but when i drew a line on my trackpad then tried to scroll with the mouse it didn't do anything until i command clicked. i then tried to click with the mouse and use the trackpad to scroll and that also worked fine.
Im currently using photoshop CC 2014 but i also had these issues in photoshop CC and i am pretty sure in photoshop CS6.
I am using a macbook pro retina 15 these are the specs
MacBook Pro   (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
Processor   2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory   8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics   Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
i also had the same problem with my 2012 Macbook pro 15.
i have searched for an answer to this but i can't seem to find anything on the internet, i had uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop,  i have reset all of the tool preferences, and deleted all of photoshops preferences when that didn't do anything.
any help would be very much appreciated
thankyou
Matty

Ok, if other tools also have that problem and it works fine with a mouse, why should Photoshop be broken? It seems related to the trackpad only . Either the pad as hardware or the driver behind it.

  • Scripts need to be updated for use from Bridge to Photoshop. Broken with CC2014

    Nasty news.
One cannot (though Adobe advises!) run the Uninstaller for Photoshop CC.
It removes the Bridge: Tools: Photoshop scripts, i.e. "Image Processor."
I reinstalled the older (CC) version, and the scripts returned—HOWEVER—the scripts STILL don't work.
It launches the CC2014 version, and delivers an error message (attached).

Why isn't stuff like this beta tested, or if it is why do all the beta testers seem to use only 5% of the program?
I found this problem in the first 30 minutes of using CC 2014. I'd happily beta test.
This is really slowing down my print ordering. The image processor is essential for exporting images.
HDR merge is broken from bridge.
    Hoping for a quick solution.
    Thanks,

  • Mobile albums not showing  up in tab - Photoshop Touch BROKEN

When i first installed Photoshop Elements 12, any pictures that i added to my mobile album showed up in my tab version of photoshop touch.
Now although they are going from my PC to my free Revel account, and i can see them in the Revel app on my tab, they are not showing up in my tab version of Phototshop Touch
How do i get this fixed?
It's a big selling point of both programs and it's not working!
    PSE 12.1
    Windows 64bit
    Photoshop Touch on Galaxy 10.1

    Well,
I've upgraded to Photoshop Elements 13 and it still doesn't work.
How do i get in touch with an actual Adobe person to ask them how to get my mobile albums to show up on my mobile devices?

  • PHOTOSHOP CS3 BROKEN AFTER UPGRADE TO 10.5

Anyone else having problems with the marquee tool selections, and other tools, in photoshop CS3 after installing Leopard? The Adobe website says all is well, for Photoshop, yet we are now pretty helpless without being able to make a selection or type in a numeric value for the selection size? Anyone have a workaround or more info as to when or how they plan on solving this one?

    Hi Fleanine,
Just so you know you're not alone, I'm experiencing similar problems.
So far, I havent noticed anything wrong with the Marquee tool, but typing numbers into Rotate or Font Size becomes impossible sometimes.
Just like you, my text box where I type becomes "messy". Either you can't see the numbers, or you can't select them properly or delete them - you are forced to use the drop down list or slider etc.
It doesn't always happen, I might be working for an hour & its OK. Then it starts & I need to re-launch photoshop.
I don't believe this is a fixable issue for us users, it's something that need to come from adode.
Why do I say that? Because I just bought a brand new MBP, installed CS3 & it happened right away.
Also, I've seen the same issue on my iMac at work & on my friends PBG4

  • Encore photoshop button broken

I have both photoshop, and photoshop elements on my computer (someone else uses elements)
The "edit in photoshop" button in encore now launches photoshop elements instead of photoshop.
    how do i fix that??

Glad that it was so easy, and that nothing had mucked up the affinity in the Registry.
This happens when programs that have affinity for particular files are installed. Usually, they do not check to see if another program has already established affinity, and especially in the case of PSD's. The installer setup just goes about its job, and suddenly PSD call PSE, instead of the existing PS.
I had similar, though with worse results, when I installed PrE 4.0, on my laptop with CS2 Production Studio. Adobe had never considered that one might install the Elements program, with PrPro, Encore, etc., installed, and the entire Production Studio had to be Repair Installed.
Some programs, and especially some players and viewers are very bad at stealing file extensions. QT Player was horrible, and would do that for every possible file type, including a bunch that it could not open, like DOC's. At least now, it offers the option to just go in and seize everything in sight, or limit it to just MOV, MP4, and a very others, that are specific to that player. RealMedia was the absolute worst, as it grabbed everything, overwriting every affinity in the Registry. Suddenly no programs would launch, and just about all files tried to open in RealPlayer. That thing was like a bad Trojan, and I would not let a copy within 10 miles of any of my computers. If you install a player, or viewer, just watch it like a hawk, and if issues arise, you know where to fix 'em.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CS5 Broken after 12.0.4 update

    I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. I've updated CS5 successfully to 12.0.4.
However, now a lot of things don't work. The keyboard shortcuts no longer work properly. For example, sometimes when I press "C", it changes the opacity. Other times it does nothing - in fact all keyboard shortcuts stop working. Not sure what is going on.
Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?
    Thanks

Have you recently installed some other new program?  I had this exact problem using CS3 and I had recently installed a new
virus protection program, Xfinity Protection Suite, designed to be a companion to Norton.  That was the only new thing I'd done so after Googling around I found people saying that this program was causing keyboard problems with games and other things.  So I uninstalled it and voila, everything is back to normal.  If that's not the case perhaps System Restore would work?

  • Calling Javascripts with a panel then prevents copy/paste functions in Photoshop CS5

    Hi,
I have a simple panel in Photoshop that calls a Javascript when a button is pressed.
I have a simple script that does some Duplication of layers and a bit of simple image manipulation.
I run the script from the Extended Toolkit and eveything works fine.
I run the same script from the Panel and the script runs fine; but then the copy / Paste functionality of Photoshop is broken.
I have to close the Panel window or run the script from the toolkit to get the functionality back.
EDIT:  I have not narrowed this down to simple interations with the Panel can casue this issue - clicking on icons, switching `Tabs` etc...
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Cheers,
    Pete

    Hi,
I created a simple panel that only had a button that calls an external JavaScript.
Even if I simply click on the panel a few times, move it around etc without executing the script, I can get the copy paste error.  It happens 90% of the time and interestingly it only happens on the currently active document.
The only way to get the functionality back is to close the panel.
It seems to be a focus issue,  but as I'm not calling any script in this case - where could I put the Bridge Talk command?

  • [Bug?] How to use the Tab key in forms

    Ahoy!
The latest release of Photoshop has "broken" the native behavior of the Tab key in html panels. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a new API I need to incorporate.
    Expected behavior:
    1. Focus into text field in a form
    2. Hit the Tab key
    3. The next field is focused.
    Actual behavior
    1. Focus into text field in a form
    2. Hit the Tab key
    3. Photoshop hides the application UI (Photoshop hotkey tab behavior).
Anyone happen to know if there's something that can be done about this?

Bug is very annoying for our users when they try to input their usernames and passwords to login (often) and also when they're filling out a large form with four fields in it.
Hope it is fixed soon or a work around provided.

  • Changed Calibration Settings, Big Problems Now with sRGB

I use Lightroom 1.3.1 on a PC with Windows. I've been using Lightroom for about a year for the same workflow (creating images for web primarily). I use a Canon 5D.
Today I changed the Camera Calibration Settings in the Develop module. I downloaded the "CAL ACR Calibrated" Settings and imported them. I may have downloaded settings for the 30D if that matters. With the new calibration settings, my reds looked MUCH better and I was very pleased.
Then I went to Library module. In that module the colors were washed out as before. Hmmm. Anyway, I exported to Photoshop using ProPhoto RGB (as always). The photos looked fine in Photoshop with the same great colors.
THEN I tried to convert the photos to sRGB. The nice reds went back to the washed out, orangish color they were before. I tried all the different conversion options with the same result. My work flow hasn't changed otherwise, and I have never had this problem. (My Photoshop color settings should be correct and my monitor is profiled, etc). For the record, photos that I exported previously (before making the calibration changes) still look the same and render to sRGB the same as always.
Can anyone please help!? Is this a bug in Lightroom?

    >he more I think my issue is related to the difference between my monitor's color gamut and sRGB
It is definitely possible but would be very suprising as your monitor is supposed to be wider than sRGB in red. What happens when you take the saturated sRGB red image in Photoshop and soft proof for your monitor profile? You should NOT check preserve RGB numbers. Now also check "Show gamut warning." If sRGB red is really outside your monitor's gamut, the image should turn solid gray. Even if the red is outside the gamut the shift in color should be small though and you should not get the described huge shift to orange, which makes me think the calibrator must be off a bit.
    >The point people were making in that forum discussion is that most web browsers (like Firefox notably) don't render using sRGB at all, but they send ALL the color information in the image to the monitor. That means some images may appear much more saturated in Firefox than they do in color managed environments (like Photoshop or, actually, Safari I think).
The first part is true, but the second part is only true on wide gamut monitors. Your monitor is almost equal to sRGB (according to the manufacturer at least) and Firefox should look almost exactly the same as Photoshop if you use sRGB and have it correctly calibrated. On most people's monitors, colors will be less saturated than what you are seeing as almost every laptop LCD screen out there is narrower in gamut than sRGB.
    >Now I'm suspecting that the reason Lightroom at default settings renders red with an orange cast (as many people report) is because they want to keep output files compatible with sRGB. Otherwise, most people would assume a red color shift means either Lightroom or Photoshop is broken.
I don't think any thought went into that. The rendering Lightroom and ACR use is based on calibration that Thomas Knoll did using reference charts. They are supposed to make ACR render colors as correctly as possible into the reference space (much wider than sRGB) under the reference conditions. No attempt is made to compress the color into sRGB or so. There is unfortunately quite a bit of variation between cameras causing the oranges that people report.
    >The discussion in that forum (can't find the link unfortunately) was basically about how difficult it is for SmugMug to display and print photos in a consistent way given the lack of a real standard, because more and more people buy monitors that display more than the sRGB gamut, and browsers don't display sRGB by default.
As always smugmug (and I love them BTW) is trying to solve the wrong problem. You cannot fix people's screens and browsers. If people do not calibrate their monitor and do not use color managed browsers (i.e. Safari and Firefox 3.0 beta) there is nothing you can do to help them but tell them to ... calibrate their monitors and to use color managed browsers. If people buy wide gamut monitor and do not calibrate and color manage they are asking for trouble. Luckily they are still out of reach for most consumers.
    >- see if there are updates for the monitor and/or video card
    - see if there is an update for the Eye-One device
    - try creating a new profile from scratch just to see
    - if all else fails, buy a new calibrator
    - if that fails, then try switching to my older monitor...hope not
These are great steps. You definitely should try recreating the profile from scratch. Also, the Huey Pro or Colorvision Spyder calibrators can be had for <$70 if you want to check your calibrator. Both give great results. Your calibrator should do a good job, but it is always possible that you have a dud. Again, your monitor should give a response very close to sRGB in unmanaged apps, making images appear the same or very close in managed and unmanaged apps if the screen is calibrated.

  • 'Save as' not working properly

'Save as' in Photoshop is broken. After 'saving as' I'm then asked to save changes to to the file when I close it, having made no changes whatsoever.

Do the files contain any additonal paths or channels?  Any feature that is not supported by the jpg format will cause PS not to save the original file as a jpg and will ask you if you want to save the original.  It's a safeguard.
Edit, also make sure the file is 8 bit.  You might have 16 bit files.

  • Virus or Charlatan?

So a person in my office recently had a virus on their Windows machine and was forced to reformat his machine as a result.
Today, one of my co-workers claimed that his Mac was "not working right" and he couldn't create a needed postscript file (something which is part of his daily workload). He thinks that it's possible he got the virus from our other co-worker since they had exchanged some art files (jpegs and pst).
So he unplugged his machine and brought it to a local Mac repair company to fix. When our boss called the repair company to ask about pick-up the guy said that it was possible he had contracted the Windows virus because of something regarding Microsoft's OLE being present on both OS's. Also, he claimed that since my co-worker was using an upgrade OS X install (from OS9) that this made him somehow more vulnerable than someone with a clean install of OS X. He claimed that in addition to installing an anti-virus that he was going to need to do some "serious work" to repair Photoshop. I'm assuming he means the repairs are necessary as a result of the virus since my co-worker uses Photoshop for 99% of his work day (art department) so he would have noticed if Photoshop was broken prior to this virus. I'm sorry but I don't know the exact version of OS X he's running but I'm pretty sure it's pre-10.3.
My question is how likely is the story the repair man is giving us?
    Probable or nigh-impossible?
I'm looking for as many opinions on this as I can get and please be as technical or non-technical as you'd like.

The code that is involved with any Microsoft product on the Mac is not the same as on a Windows machine because the processors involved are different as are the compilers. The only type of "virus" that could affect a Microsoft app on both platforms would be one that was embedded in a macro since the macro languages are the same for both platforms. However, they would not affect an Adobe product like Photoshop. Even were a Window's virus embedded in a Word macro, for example, it would not likely have an affect on the hardware or other applications.
Presently there are no known viruses affecting OS X. Whatever problem your co=worker has on his/her Mac, it is unlikely to be a virus or be due to a virus.

  • Need help uninstalling PS CS5

I would appreciate some help here....
A DLL associated with the Bridge was quarantined by my AV so I had to delete it. Now, PS5 does not display in the Installed Programs list in Win 7. Plus
there is no uninstaller file to be found under the Adobe folders. And, of course, Photoshop is broken.
I am desperately looking for a method to properly, cleanly remove PS CS5 so I can do full re-install.  I have spent hours on Google searches to try and find
a doable solution. Can anyone point me to a utility that can (and will) do the job.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim n' Jawga

Sorry, was away for Christmas Day family time.
Photoshop is still installed because I can still open the application; but it does not function.
I considered a re-install but I was concerned that it might do the 2nd install in a new location... as in Adobe(2)....
and leave the remnants of the first install still in place. Do you think it would overwrite the existing folders?

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that.  If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.  You can also download thru the following page if you can find your version:
    Download and Installation Help -
    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install.html
You can have the first installation deactivated to free up the activation and have it available for another machine again as well.  YOu need to contact Adobe Support thru chat for that.  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...
