My pixel grid appears to be off.

The grid I have set up in photoshop seems to be misaligned. When I click the lower right quadrant of a square it colors the square on the lower right diagonal of it. If try to color it clicking the right half of it, the pixel next to it becomes colored. Clicking the left half of the pixel colors the correct one though. It seems like the grid isn't aligned properly. How do I fix this?
Thanks
Also, I just switched my grid subdivisions from 1 to 4 and the problem was gone, but none the less, why is it that with gridlines every 1 pixel and subdivision of 1 that the alignment of it is off?

Were you viewing the image at Actual Pixel Size (Ctrl Alt 0 or Cmd Opt 0) ?  If you were zoomed out, then there are bound to be discrepancies.
How does your grid sizing tally with the image size in both linear and pixel dimensions?  If these are not multiples of each other (i.e. 10 grid divisions = 103 pixels) then, here again, you will have misalignment.

  • In After Effects when I use the Color Finesse 3, A grid appears in the display window. How do I turn that off?

When I click on Affects, then Synthetic Aperture, then SA Color Finesse 3 in the Creative Cloud a grid appears over the video in the display window, and I am un sure how to take that off?

Color Finesse 3 LE is included with After Effects and is installed automatically when After Effects is installed. The only reason to upgrade to the paid version is if you want to use Color Finesse in Premiere Pro as well as in After Effects.
Since it's a college computer, do you have the ability to install/uninstall software? Many colleges lock down the computers to limit such access. You'll need full access, including an admin password, to use the following steps. If you're not allowed the necessary access, you can pass the following along to whoever does computer administration.
To remove the trial version, delete the entire "Synthetic Aperture" folder found in:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore
(Note that this is the Library folder at the base of your boot drive, not the one in your home folder.)
Next, re-enable the bundled version of Color Finesse by going to the following folder:
    /Applications/Adobe/Adobe After Effects CC/Support Files/Plug-ins/Effects/Synthetic Aperture
Now, within that "Synthetic Aperture" folder you'll find a plug-in with parentheses around the name:
    (SA Color Finesse 3 AE64)
Remove the parentheses from the filename so AE will see it. Do NOT remove the parentheses from the "(CF3 Support)" folder or AE will launch very, very slowly, and Color Finesse won't work right.
Finally, within the "(CF3 Support)" folder, locate the "(SA Color Finesse 3 UI)" application and remove the parentheses.
Launch AE, apply Color Finesse to a layer, enter a name, and you should be good to go with no grid lines.

  • Pixel Grid - not appearing

On my mac I have a pixel grid when I zoom in over 500%, but on my PC (both using CS5) I dont have the option of pixel grid under view>show.
Does this have something to do with the video card in my PC & selecting 'open GL' under edit.preferences?
    Thanks

Up-to-date acording to Windows? go to nvidia.com and make sure that you really have the latest driver available. If it is then try installing some older drivers. Also, if you have the 64bit version of Windows XP then better to just give up as that operating system isn't supported.

  • Design View: Toggle on/off background pixel grid (with axis value markers) for assistance in creating parallax scrolling experiences

Maybe I haven't used the tool enough to be comfortable, but...
Adding a toggle for a background pixel grid with x and y axis pixel values to assist in determining key positions during preview might be a good feature. As I become more comfortable with the Muse product, I find myself wanting to add a background pixel graphic (temporarily) so when I preview the comp, I can identify exact pixel positions.

    Alyssa,
Have you tried putting this rule back as it was originally:
/* Submenu that is showing with class designation MenuBarSubmenuVisible, we set left to auto so it comes onto the screen below its parent menu item */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
        left: auto; /*was 9px*/
        color: #EF9CCF;
        background-color: #FFF;
That is, changing your 9px back to auto.
And giving  us a link (as you did) is much better than printing out the code for us! Thanks!

  • Line weight changes when using Align to Pixel grid

When I select Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform Panel, I see line weight changes occur. I try to change the line weight in the either the Stroke or Appearance panel and it will not change, no layers locked, any ideas how to change the line weight?

    Chouettecacahuete wrote:

Just try this, with snap to pixel grid on, create 10 pixel long straight horizontal 1pt line with the pen or line tool. You won't be able to change the stroke weight to other than whole numbers. But if you rotate the line with only 0.01 degrees by typing this for rotation in the Transform panel, then you can change the stroke weight to 1.25 for example. When creating artworks for for screen display always verify the result with View > Pixel Preview turned on.

As I said, Photoshop doesn't have  snap to pixel grid feature like Illustrator. You can easily create fuzzy lines in Photoshop if you are not drawing them precisely in the middle of the pixels. To check what I'm talking about try this In Photoshop, create a new document with a very small pixel dimensions like 20 x 20 pixels and zoom to the maximum 3200% to see clearly the result. Fill the image with light gray color so you can see the pixels when View > Show Pixel grid is on. Then with black color try drawing a straight line with any tool that creates pixels like a hard brush or the line tool used in pixel mode, and try using constraints like holding Shift while dragging. You will see that unless you draw the lines exactly in the middle of the pixels it will be fuzzy and not clean. The only way to ensure not fuzzy lines in Photoshop is to turn  off the anti-aliasing. You do this by unchecking the anti-alias for tools that have this option and instead of burshes use the pencil tool (which is brush without anti-aliasing). And Illustrator works the same too if you turn off Anti-aliased Artwork in its general section of the preferences and view the result with View > Pixel Preview, you don't need to have the Align to Pixel Grid on, the aliased result will be the same like in Photoshop.

  • How can I permanently disable the pixel grid for all images forever?

I keep turning this off with View -> Show -> Pixel grid and it keeps coming back every time I zoom in on a new image.
Is there a registry setting I can change to permanently disable this feature? Or any other way?

Perhaps a Prefs Reset will fix this. Hold down ctrl-alt-shift and start Photoshop.

  • Pixel Grid...

Curious if anyone uses this feature.  When I first saw it, it sort of freaked me out.  Didn't find out what it was until I saw it explained on a video being described as the pixel grid.  Then I realized 'O, what an interesting feature.  Maybe now people will realize 100% isn't really at a pixel level."
As for it's functionality, I find it seriously off putting and it actually made me stay away from zooming in so much which I like to do some times.  I found it gets in the way of seeing the pixels.  So I just switched it off.
Anyone else have similiar feelings towards this feature?  Is there anyway it can be made to not be so prominant visually?

I switch it off for most things, but there are some things for which it's invaluable.  Helping in the creation of icons is one I can think of.
There's no sin in switching it off for most of your work, then using it when you need it.

  • PS CS4 grid appearing at 600% zoom

I've noticed something odd happening once I zoom into an image >= 600%. If you look at the attached images, I have a document with a black background (for an example). Once I zoom to 600%, I see a faint grid (even when grid is turned off "no-grid.jpg"). If I turn the grid on at this point, you will see what happens with "with-grid.jpg".This also seems to happen with basically any background color except white. If I have a white background, even zooming to 3200%, I do not see the querk as descibed above.
In my preferences under guides, grids, and slices, I have a gridline every 1 pixel with 1 subdivision (just like I've always had in previous PS versions). Does anyone know what's going on here?

Well, I understand about seeing pixels better because I've always used "show grid" when I want to edit at the pixel level. What I'm noticing now is pixel grid seems to properly outline the pixel, but show grid (even though I have the preferences set to show a gridline every 1 pixel) seems to outline the pixel incorrectly. This is why when I "show grid" along with "pixel grid" at the same time, I'm seeing that misaligned grid (screenshot in my original post). So the error is coming from "show grid". If you can take a look at the attached psd, I have 3 layers of a screenshot. You will see "show grid" places a gridline not quite 1 pixel in width. I'm sure the other layers are self explanatory.
EDIT: apparently this stupid forum will not allow me to upload a .psd file (even though it's not listed in the exclusion list next to the browse button). You can download it at http://www.shan-dysigns.com/photoshop/pixel-grid.psd

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Pixel Grid is not visible

I am using Adobe Illustrator CC version 17.0.1 x64 on Windows 8.1.
In Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid I have the Show Pixel Grid option checked but when zoomed in over 600% the pixel grid does not appear. Am I missing something?

In addition to the preference setting you have to turn on Pixel Preview in the View menu.

  • Pixel grid does not line up with rulers

AICS 5.5 - I'm working in a doc with measurement set to pixels, showing the grid set to increments of 1 pixel. I reset the rulers by double-clicking on the origin. The grid does not align to the ruler pixels. It's about halfway between on the y axis and about 3/5 of the way off on the x axis. When I create objects with the origin and width/height set to even pixels (which makes them fall between the pixel grid lines) and save for web, the edges are antialiased.
How do I make the rulers and pixel grid register with each other? It seems odd this wouldn't be the default.

Aha - it turns out the artboards were not placed precisely on the pixel grid. Their origins were set between whole pixel values. The rulers went with the artboards, so their pixels didn't match the grid pixels.
Should be possible to just move the artboard and get everything lined up again.
Still - I would  think the grid would readjust to the origin of whatever artboard you are currently working on, just as the rulers do. It not doing so is unexpected behavior.

  • Resizing symbol instance messes up pixel grid alignment

Sometimes when I drag a new symbol instance to my artboard and resize it, the instance looses it alignement with the pixel grid.
This happens despite the fact that...
I checked the box for pixel grid alignement when I created the document
the symbol option is set for align to pixel grid
the original shape in the symbol is aligned to pixel grind
the original shape has the align to pixel grid check box in the transform panel checked
So why when I resize the symbol instance does it break the pixel grid alignmnet and result in a blurred 1px stroke?

From you description it seems everything is normal in AI land - for symbols, the decisive factor is still the registration point. If it is off even by a nanometer, AI will resample and that can ahppen with pixel grid on just as well. Of course there may be specific extra conditions in your documents that intensify the problem...

  • Coordinates, Pixel grid or Retina screen error?

    Hi.
I'd appreciate any help on this.
I've had numerous problems crop up with CC, but this one is doing my head in.
There's a box, I've set it to 0,0 coords, but it will not stick to the top of the artboard. I've tried align to pixel grid on and off (It would not move off 0.318px when I had align pixel grid on, which confused me too!). When I turn align to pixel grid off the box stays closer to the top, BUT when I export for web it sticks a white line in at the very top of the artwork.
I'm on a macbook pro, retina.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Aran

    Aran,
If the rectangle has a stroke, try to remove it.

  • Perfectly aligned on pixel grid, but X and Y cord. say different?

Hello, I made this shape perfectly on the pixel grid with 'Snap to Grid', 'Align to Pixel Grid', and 'Show Grid' on. Every anchor is perfectly placed (i.e. not in the middle of a pixel) but for some reason my X and Y cordinates say it's off by half a pixel. When I change the .5 to .0, it unaligns my object. Why is it doing this? There is an example below of what it's doing.

    Erratic Fox,
Your artwork is 12 by 9 pixels, so the Y value of the centre has to end at .5; and the X value is an integer as it should be.
If you set the Transform palette Reference Point to any corner, I am sure you will get integer values only.

  • Death to "Align to Pixel Grid".

Now that we have responsive design and a myriad of different display sizes and resolutions can we please get rid of that pesky "Align to Pixel Grid"?
If I want pixel perfection, I will type values into the transform panel.
    I've had enough of Align to Pixel Grid doing the following;
    1. Distorting small vector symbols.
    2. Misaligning anything with a stroke.
    3. Automatically turning on with symbols despite the fact that I have it off by default and no part of the symbol has it activated.
    4. Making it difficult to align triangles and other non-rectangular shapes
    5. Just generally second-guessing me. I know you're a computer and you can handle like a hundred billion instructions per second but I'm still running the show here!
It's now barely relevant. Surely it's time to kill it.
    Please?

The specific use is web and other screen media design. I am thinking you have another issue such as a corrupt preference file. The reason I think that, is I have not heard of any complaints from anyone else, including myself. Granted, it maybe possible that some of your issues have not been noticed, but seams like they would be.
When creating a new document, using the print preset should also disable the snap to grid.
Try holding down the three shift + ctrl/cmd + alt/opt modifier keys when starting illustrator.
