My playlist plays scrambled...what to do?

I created a neat playlist, in a certain order, but it plays scrambled on my iPod...I've got to get this fixed asap as I am teaching to music later today! Help!

You probably have the playlist in iTunes sorted using a column that is not the play order column. That's the leftmost, unmarked column.
If you have the playlist sorted in the order you want, you can set the play order of the playlist to be the same by right-clicking the playlist in the list on the left, and choosing Copy to Play Order. Then when you can click the leftmost column in iTunes, the order will stay the same, and that's the order in which the songs will play on the iPod.

  • Smart Playlist plays in what order?

A couple of years ago I made a Smart Playlist that collects everything of the gendre "podcast." This lets me listed to the podcasts continuously, instead of stopping after each one.
I realize that I have no idea what order it's playing the podcasts in. It seems to be random, and when I go into the list in iTunes, sorting by each of the categories doesn't put them in the order they play.
Is there a "shuffle" option being applied to the list?

Adding "Playlist is Music" does not seem to be required on my iPhone or iPad, their playlists match the library that I auto-sync both devices to.
First, right-click on the playlist name in your iTunes library and select "Copy to play order".  That saves the sort order of the playlist, and if you don't do that then the sorting on your device may not be what you expect.
If that does not help some of your smart playlists, then right-click on the playlist name in iTunes and select "Duplicate".  Then get the new playlist sorted how you like and "lock" the sorting as described above, then delete the original playlist (re-name the copy if you'd like) and check/ change your sync settings to make sure the new playlist syncs to your device.

Adding the "Playlist is Music" rule does sort the order correctly but it loses the "live updating" feature on my iPhone which allows the list to be repopulated without syncing back to the PC.
Live Updating on the device has by and large been broken since iOS 3, unless you have a very simple smart playlist.  But if you include certain criteria like "Playlist Is ..." then Live Updating on the device doesn't work (even if the "source" playlist is synced to the device).  There are a few other smart criteria that break LU.

  • Not all my music in my playlist plays on my iPad. Same playlist plays on my iPhone.

Not all my music in my playlist plays on my iPad. Same playlist plays on my iPhone.

This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
    Backup the device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.

  • Can't get smart playlist to do what I want

I'm trying to create a smart playlist for my Mac related videos (MacWorld, Apple etc). This is what my smart playlist looks like:
    Match any rule
    Artist contains MacWorld
    Artist contains ehMac.ca
    Artist contains Apple Inc.
Album is not ILife '08 Sound Effects
    Video Kind is Movie
The playlist still includes audio from MacWorld and audio from the iLife '08 Sound Effects (I imported them into iTunes as an album). How can I get my smart playlist to just display related video?

Problem is that matching ANY rule means if a track in your library matches even ONE SINGLE rule of your Smart Playlist, it will get added. So the last rule doesn't exclude non-videos if one of the previous rules matches an audio file.
I am not at home now to play on iTunes and try to come up more clever, but you could create two playlists, where Smart Playlist #1 is what you have now (either with or without that last rule). And then a new Smart PL where the rules match ALL and the two rules are the last rule in your previous one where it has to be a video AND that last playlist.
But maybe someone can come up with something better. If I think about it, I will look tonight since I can not recall all the various Smart rules available.
Oh wait, just thought of something. One of the rules can be that the type is NOT {xxx} where XXX is the audio file type like MP3, AAC etc. or how ever the rules call them up.

  • Exporting Keynote to  quicktime only 1 song on my playlist plays

When I tried exporting into quicktime only the first song on my playlist played with my presentation. Any ideas?

I just posted this on another similar inquiry. THis may help. I posed a similar question so check the thread "Bottom line...etc." If you follow the guidelines below it should work. The final result is one QT movie with all slides and music. The product was so much nicer than the iPhoto slide shows (although they are OK too. (I don't know about the video in the Keynote might work as described in the initial post here.)
Here is what the final answer was, at least for my situation:
"YESSSS!!! Even after meeting with 4 Geniuses and 1 Creative the answer was still a definite bottom line, "Maybe." Until, I finally realized that the one setting that I was not using correctly was in the Export> QT> Playback. I had been using "Manual" and not using the "Fixed Timing" out of fear that it would change the custom settings that I had on each slide. However, that is not the case. The settings on each slide remain the same even though in this option there are settings for slide duration and build duration. I do not know what those options do but the bottom line is I now can Export to QT and then import to iDVD with both sound and video as one file and they work fine both as an isolated QT file as well as a QT/Slideshow in iDVD. Thanks for the help from all the contributors both recently and quite awhile ago when I first faced this challenge.
    Peace,
    Jim

  • My Top Rated songs, when I synch my iP4S - comes up with an error message saying it can't find all the songs. When I check, library has songs listed but with a "!" bubble next to them. When I click on them they play. What am I doing wrong?

When synching, itcomes up with an error message saying it can't find all the songs. When I check, library has songs listed but with a "!" bubble next to them. When I click on them they play. What am I doing wrong? This happens every time so I click them and it sorts them (boring with 200 odd). How can I prevent this?

Once you successfully add you iTunes library to iTunes Match, you go to Settings>iTunes & App Store on your iOS device and turn on iTunes Match.  Your iTunes Match library will then appear on your iOS device.

  • How can I make a playlist play on my iPod in random order?

I have made a playlist on my computer in iTunes. The songs are now in alphabetical order by song title, and when they play on my iPod they play in that same alphabetical order.
Is there a way that I can make the songs in the playlist play in some other order? Preferably, just a random order?
Or, is there a way that I can arrange them in iTunes that is not in alphabetical order and have them stay in that non-alphabetical order?
    Thanks!

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

  • How do I Force a playlist play order?

I want to make a playlist to play in a particular order, so I can burn a CD for playback with that same order.
I don't see a way to change the order in the BURN list, so is there way to change the playlist play order?
I don't want to force it by changing the track name, because it screws up the sort order (like alphabetic title for instance).

Have you tried dragging the tracks in the playlist into the order you want them in? Open the playlist and click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move, hold down the mouse button and drag the song to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.

  • HT3642 HOW DO I PLAY DIGITAL MOVIES I DOWNLOADED FROM ITUNES ON MY NON APPLE SMART PHONE? I HAVE TRIED TO CLICK COPY AND PASTE & I'VE TRIED TO DRAG AND DROP TO A SD CARD AND IT SHOWS ITS ON THERE BUT IT I WON'T PLAY. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

HOW DO I COPY AND GET IT TO PLAY ON A SMART PHONE FROM A SD CARD? IT SHOWS IT ON THE CARD BUT IT WON'T PLAY. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

You cannot. Those will be DRM locked to Apple authorized products. Since you cannot authorize you non-Apple smart phone in iTunes, you cannot play iTunes DRM locked content on it.

  • Videos on iPhoto no longer play. All was fine as I was organizing photos, but suddenly no more videos would play. What has happened?

Videos on iPhoto no longer play. All was fine as I was organizing photos, but suddenly no more videos would play. What has happened?

Something went wrong. Now for a useful answer...
Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Smart Playlists play 1 song at a time

Ever since updating to iTunes 7, my smart playlists play 1 song at a time. this is not only annoying, but problematic. I travel a long distance to work and have to constantly press play. Is this just an effect of the new software or is there a new option that needs to be checked to get this to work?
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes - all are checked. Here's my prob in detail:
    - I have a smart playlist which includes all unplayed podcasts
    - Before iTunes 7.0 (and I just rec'd the first update - no change), my playlist would continue to play all podcasts until I stopped it.
    - After iTunes 7.0, it will only play 1 at a time, then return to the main iPod screen.

I get an error message for all the Apple tutorial videos:  The file you are trying to play has failed to finish downloading and can no longer play."  What is wrong and how can I fix it?

This means that you have downloadd the file from the internet, and the file did not download completely so the computer can't play it. To fix this, just re-download the file and make sure it finishes.

you may have inadvertantly purchased it from a non us itunes store section of itunes. go to expresslane.apple.com to get a refund and if you want to rent it again, on your computer itunes screen, scroll all the way to the bottom, and make sure the country indicator at the bottom right has the usa flag

  • Audio in PDF slide show doesn't play. What can I do ?

I created a PDF slide show with MP3 audio (from Elements Organizer version 10.0). The PDF doesn't play the audio. What can I do ?

    Hello Andaleeb,
thank you for getting back to me.
The slide show works fine, including sound, from within Organizer. It
also works fine when I export it as a video. Just PDF isn't working.
In the meantime, from various contributions in the forum, I gather that,
unfortunately, the Organizer (just like Lightroom) simply does not
support adding music to PDF slide shows. Apparently, there is a way to
do that using Acrobat Pro (only costs 640 Euros).
You may consider my question answered.
    Regards,
    Thomas

the ones that are greyed out did not get downloaded all of the way. You need to delete or unsync them and redownload or resync them.
