My playlist Shuffle doesn't work

Awhile back I created a playlist on ITunes and after entering a bunch of songs, I clicked on the Names tab to put the songs in order so I could print the list. Now, the playlist will no longer Shuffle the songs when I click on Control and Shuffle. Can anyone tell me how to undo what I did so I can shuffle songs in the playlists again? Thanks.

I noticed the same thing, although when I push the forward button, it picks a song randomly. I don't know if after that it plays in order again, but it does get you a different song (if it did and you shuffled to the last song, I wonder if it would end the playlist and break the run rhythm?)
It will probably be a future bug fix if it is a problem. Until then, just hit that forward button and you will be on your way.

  • Album shuffle doesn't work

For some reason, selecting shuffle by album doesn't work for me. In fact, all of the three shuffle by options seem have the same effect; shuffling by song.
whats going on? shuffle worked fine in 4.9. what did apple do to mess up a perfectly working shuffle feature? Am I missing something, or are other people having this problem?
On a similar note, I'd like to be able to select what type of shuffle I want by playlist, so I don't need to go into preferences to switch that when I change playlists.

Album shuffle is currently only working if you have the smart shuffle slider exactly in the middle (ie, "random"). If you move the smart shuffle slider in either direction it causes album shuffle to instead become "song shuffle".
So, place the slider back in the middle and it should work just like it did in 4.9.

  • Shuffle doesn't work for one playlist

    I followed this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61574
and made sure I have the right settings, but it still doesn't shuffle one of the playlists. All the rest of the playlists seem to shuffle, but this one always shows only in alphabetical order, no matter what I do. This has been frustrating me for quite sometime, and I finally decided to post here, and I appreciate any help. I have the latest firmware as per the updater.

  • Shake to shuffle doesn't work within Playlists

I have just bought the new 8gb Nano, and i love it. But one thing is driving me mad. When i am playing songs within a playlist and then shake to shuffle, it goes back to my entire library of songs.
    My questions are therefore:
Why doesn't it shuffle the playlist, when i shake?
    Is this a bug?
Do Apple intend to do anything about this?

Use this link. They can't reply back to you but it says on the website that they read every comment:

  • Shuffle doesn't work anymore in iTunes 6

For some reason, the shuffle button no longer does anything in my version of iTunes.
I have a smart playlist and when I play it, iTunes will only play song by song through the list. How do I get it to shuffle it again?
This used to work and I don't know what has changed to cause this problem.

    DOH!!!
Figured out the issue... I just went and monkeyed around with the preferences and found that somehow it got set to shuffle albums as opposed to songs.
I set it back to songs and it is now following the behavior I anticipated...
I am curious how the preference got adjusted...

  • Party shuffle and general shuffle doesn't work

I don't quite understand. I select a playlist to shuffle within party shuffle to listen to while I program software at work. Often, I will hear the same song over again within an hour. This playlist has 659 songs with an average length of about 4-5 minutes. I've messed with the "Smart Shuffle" settings after Steve Jobs reassured consumers that iTunes is random but still no luck. I can't imagine how I hear the same song within an hour when there is over 48 hours of potentially non-repeating music. Has anyone had luck with getting true randomness from iTunes?
    Thanks!

    Jeremy--
What you're seeing is random behavior. In truth, you should sometimes even hear the same song back to back, if iTunes is truly mathematically random. To get the behavior you are looking for, you need to actually make it less random.
The easiest way to do what you want is to make a Smart playlist. Set it so that its rule is "Last Played is not in the last 30 days" (or whatever time period you like). Make sure "Live Updating" is checked.
Now, use that playlist as the source for your party shuffle. Once a song is played, it won't play again for 30 days.

  • TS1369 My 6th Generation IPod Shuffle doesn't work at all

I've had this IPod for 3 years now. I noticed it wasn't charging when I tried to charge it on my IHome and on my computer. Before this happened, a bug somehow was crawling amongst my IHome and I accidently put my IPod on it. I doubt this caused the problem, but i think it's worth mentioning. I tried connecting it to the computer using the 3 IPod USB connectors my family has, in all the ports. the screen doesn't light up at all. My IPod Touch works with this computer, but not my Shuffle. Is there anything I could do? My warranty is out, obviously.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPOD Shuffle doesn't work on home computer but is fine at my work machine.

I have a 1st GEN shuffle and set it up on my computer at home. Everything worked fine. One day, I took it into work and started using/charging it there. Now, when I plug it into my home computer, I get an error message indicating that my "shuffle may be corrupt"? I've tried to restore it at home but that doesn't seem to work. Even with the iTUNES and software updates. When I restroed it on my work machine, everything went fine. My shuffle now seems to have it's heart attached to my work machine and doesn't want anything to do with my home one. Am I totally screwed now? I bought it 11.20.2005 and I was kinda hoping for a longer life than this. Any ideas?

Your posting was the first of the hundreds that I read that was almost exactly like mine (even the date I received my shuffle).
How did you get Apple to replace? I really liked it when it worked - not looking to replace it at all!
Thanks for posting - really helped!!

  • Album Shuffle Doesn't Work Properly When Albums Have The Same Name

I'm using the latest versions of iTunes 7.0.2 and 5.5G iPod v1.2.1, but this problem has existed in (as far as I know) all iPods to date. It certainly still continues to occur on the latest iPod.
Example of the problem: I have many Albums by different Artists. I listen to them on my iPod by using "Album Shuffle" which plays the contents of an album in sequential order, but successive albums in random order. This is good when it works. However, iTunes and iPod have a problem when more than 1 album has the same name. So, let's say you have 3 albums by 3 different groups (Band A, B, and C), all called "Greatest Hits". The expected behaviour is that "Greatest Hits by Band A will play tracks 1-10, then another random album, and then sometime later, the album "Greatest Hits" by Band C will play tracks 1-15. That would be good, but this does not happen. Here's what actually happens:
    Some Album / Band X / Track 14
    Some Album / Band X / Track 15
    Some Album / Band X / Track 16
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 3
... (until all "Greatest Hits" tracks by Bands A, B, and C have finished)
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 1
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 2
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 3
As you can see, the iPod treats all 3 "Greatest Hits" as one humungous album. Now, until version 7, even iTunes appeared to be pretty confused about this, but with the latest version added the "Album Artist" tag (which I've applied correctly to all tracks in my Library), so that it can identify albums as separate entities properly, even if they have the same name. (This was necessary for Cover Flow to work.) Sadly, this logic has not made it to the iPod, and we still have the crazy playback situation above.
Since the first day I bought my first iPod back in 2002, I've always used Album Shuffle, and this has always been a problem. I was surprised to find that even the latest iPod still hasn't fixed this, even though iTunes seems to have. Apple, please could you fix this?
    iPod 5.5G, iTunes 7.0.2   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

BTW, I'm not looking for workarounds that involve renaming albums. What if I have 158 "Greatest Hits" albums?

  • Shuffle doesn't work correctly on PS4 app

On PlayStation 4 when I use shuffle on playlists which have songs from multiple artists it only plays one artist at a time. For example I have a Rock-playlist containing Disco Ensemble, Billy Talent and Offspring. When I hit play, it starts playing Disco Ensemble's first album in order of the tracks. When I hit shuffle it shuffles the tracks but won't mix the bands. For some reason it plays all the Disco Ensemble's tracks first (in shuffled order) until it runs out of their tracks, and only then moves on to Billy Talent. Then it plays all the Billy Talent tracks (in shuffled order) and only after that moves on to play Offspring. So it is not possible to listen to one track from one band and the next from another one without manually choosing them.

so bring your phone in for evaluation. Am I missing something?

  • Genius playlist creation doesn't work

When I go to any title, press and hold the play/pause button and select "Start Genius", AppleTV always tells me that Genius is not available for this track. But Genius works fine for the same tracks on my iPod nano and from within iTunes.
    Ideas?

OK, I solved my own problem. Restored AppleTV to factory settings (i.e. software version 1.0), upgraded to version 2.2 and re-synced all my content. Genius playlist creation now works like it should.
I've been an AppleTV customer since version 1.0 came out and have never restored the AppleTV since. It's likely that something got corrupted during one of those upgrades and that the problem would never have occured with a newer, out-of-the-box AppleTV.
    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

  • IPod Shuffle doesn't work outdoors

I bought my shuffle about 4 months ago, ever since the weather got cold (like anywhere below 5 degrees C), the player has gotten very flakey - it stops playing, somtimes with a pop, sometimes with a very LOUD screeching noise.
    Indoors it works 100% fine.
I tried something the other day (it was about 5 degrees): I was out walking and my player stopped. I found that if I held it in my hand, it played fine. As soon as I put it in my pocket, or around my neck, or if I held it loosely in my hand, it stopped playing within seconds.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a defective product of if this is just iPod shuffles are. Anyone?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I too have this trouble. I noticed my 1GB shuffle acting flaky in the car and it didn't last 3 minutes when I went jogging tonight (-7 °C, °19 F). It would just stop of skip around.
The strange part is that in the car it was probably about 10-15 °C (50-60 °F) and the shuffle still was not playing consistently. I thought the thing was broken but when I tested it indoors it played just fine!
So, I conclude that Apple's temperature ratings are just wrong. Mine won't work if it's less than 10 °C (50 °F) or so.
Next time I jog I'll have to put the iPod on my inside layer of clothes... hopefully I won't sweat on it too much!

  • Shuffle doesn't work (nano 5G)

    Hi!
My iPod won't play random songs any more (it did until yesterday). Now, when I choose "shuffle songs" in the main menu or "shuffle" in an album or playlist, nothing happens. When I go to "settings" -> "shuffle" and choose "songs" and then choose a song from an album or playlist, it plays the one song I've chosen, and then it stops.
I tried resetting it to the original settings - nothing changed. Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks for your attention, I'll be grateful for your suggestions.
    * nano 5G
    * software version 1.0.2
    * iTunes 10.6.0.40

If you head to Settings on your Nano what are the Shuffle and Repeat options currently set to?
If nothing else, it's likely time for you to schedule an appointment at your local Apple Store/Genius Bar to see if there is anything they can do to help.

  • Party Shuffle doesn't work as intended

    Hi,
my brother's iTunes does not work as intended. His Party Shuffle lists songs in order of artists and their albums = it does not shuffle! Pressing the 'Shuffle' button does not change the order at all. Changing the shuffle logic slider in preferences does not affect at all. Rebooting or repairing permissions does not work.
I have 2 iMacs with iTunes working great so I think I've tried everything. Is this a MacBook bug? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -MacBook Intel (summer 2006)
    -Latest iTunes
    -repaired permissions

I would suggest taking the Shuffle back to where you bought it from, if it is within the time frame given for exchanges. If you bought it at the Apple Store online, schedule a repair for the iPod at http://depot.info.Apple.com then choose the iPod service.

  • Stop music shuffling doesn't work

    Hello,
Every day I put my iPhone on the charger and I play soothing songs by my bed. Than in the morning I pick up my phone and I don't use iTunes or listen to music at all. In the evening, I come home and I put my phone on the charger stand again and it plays different albums and different songs. I make sure that phone doesn't say shuffle. How ever it keeps doing the same thing. When I had ios6 it was perfect. It continued playing from where it left off the day before. Is anyone having problems with this too? This is my one of many problems I have with ios7. Please help.
    Thank you
