My playlists on iTunes are gone

All of my playlists on itunes (computer, MacBook Pro, Mavericks) are gone, but still on my iphone.  How do I get it to sync to the phone and retrieve the playlists from the phone?
Thanks,
Jeff

  • Backed up my songs from itunes onto a hard drive and now my playlists in itunes are gone! How do I retrieve them back to the way it was before?

Help! My husband backed up my songs from itunes onto a hard drive and now my playlists in itunes are gone from my library! How do I retrieve them back to the way it was before?

    Hello Nataroo007,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
There is a file in the iTunes library folder that contains your playlist information is the iTunes Library.xml file.
Try and find the file, usually located in one of these locations depending on your OS:
    Operating System
    Default location of iTunes Folder
    Mac OS X
    /Users/[your username]/Music
    Microsoft Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    \Users\[your username]\Music\
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\
Then you can import this file to your iTunes Library like this:
    1. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
    2. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file
    3. Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.
Note: information in this post comes from article:

  • My iTunes sidebar is open but empty. All lists including playlists and devices are gone.

The sidebar on my iTunes page is suddenly empty. All of the lists of playlists, devices, etc are gone. How can I retreive them?

Have you checked if any library items have been disabled or deselected in the iTunes preferences panels (General, Parental)?
If enableling library items in the Preferences settings does not bring
any of your library items back to the sidebar, you may have a problem with your iTunes library or your itunes preferences file.
Check first, if iTunes is working well when you switch to a different iTunes library. You can create a new iTunes library for testing by quitting iTunes and relaunching it while holding down the alt/options key. Then select a new name for new library and view the sidebar for this new library. Does it look o.k.? YOu can switch back to your regular library the same way.

  • HT204406 A few of my playlists in itunes are not transferring to my iphone 4 when I sinc it to itunes.  I'm also using icloud, help?

Some of my playlists in itunes are not transferrring to my iPhone either by sincing and by icloud.  I turned itunes match on and off several times and still doesn't put missing playlists on my phone.  I didn't have this issue prior to saving to icloud and using itunes match.  Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi oxman78,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Let's give this a go to see if we can isolate the issue futher:
First, connect your device and choose the "Music" tab. Next, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

    THANK YOU !!

go don't connect your ipod until you go into itunes
and make sure to set it up to where it won't

  • New Hard Drive - purchased iTunes are gone

Recently i had to have my hard drive replaced.. the guys from Best Buy's Geek Squad managed to salvage "my documents," which contained my iTunes music folder. When i transferred all the data to my new hard drive, the only music files that were on there were the ones i had transferred directly from cd.. all of my purchased iTunes are GONE.
Is there a way to get them back? I'm missing about 800 songs!! ..and there's NO WAY i'm paying for them all over again.
    Someone PLEASE help!!
    Thanks.
    Nicole.

If you have the My Music Folder, they should be there in your play list. Are you saying that these songs are not there? I thought that all songs get put into this folder. I would suggest looking again under compilations, etc. Secondly, there are some things that can be done to recover these songs from your iPod, but I don't have any experience in this and have no idea how to recommend that. You might try a Google for some help with this. Finally, buy a second HDD to back up your current HDD. It is absolutely critical. Best of luck!

  • I sync my iPad. Now everything is messed up playlists and music are gone. Weird stuff showed up. And now I can't find the option to delete or make new playlists. 6.1.2 is my newest version!! NEED HELP!!

So I don't sync my iPad very often. My dad and I share a computer. And I decided to do it the other day. I am pretty sure I did it all correctly selecting music that I wanted not deleting playlists but it seems to be that they are gone. And music I didn't want has appeared. And now I don't have an option (with this new iOS 6.1.2) to make new playlists or edit music I don't want out.
I know I need help figuring those two things out 1 how to make a play list. There isn't a "add" button anymore in that screen I have a "you have no playlist"with a button underneath that says "go to iTunes Store" why I would need the store for that, I do not know.
Then in the songs, artists, albums sections where you used to be able to hit "edit" button to delete the music you have that you don't want. I don't seem to be able to do anything at all to get rid of the random music I have.
I need help. I know my iPad fairly well but I am not super savvy with it either.

Is there a "New" button at the top right of the Playlists section of Music?
There is no Edit button to delete music, swipe sideways on the song to reveal the delete button. Tap and hold on the artwork in Artists and albums to reveal the (X) button to delete. Or connect the iPad back up to iTunes on the computer and check your sync settings for music to ensure you are syncing the right content.

  • Playlists on iTunes are not syncing correctly with iPhone on iOS 7-only 48 of 134 songs on one playlist are appearing (all songs are checked and I've tried this both hardwire and wireless)...help!

So, I could use help from people who know mre about this than I do. I did a sync last night between iTunes on my Mac (latest version of iTunes) and my iPhone 5 running iOS 7. For some reason, about 90 songs in one of my playlists have disappeared.
The songs are all checked in the playlist in iTunes
The songs were all on the iPhone playlist prior to the sync
I've tried a sync again both by hardwire and wifi
I added a song to the playlist on iTunes and the song appeared in the iPhone playlist, but none of the other 90+ songs came back
I haven't checked my other playlists to see what is there and what isn't (I have lots of music, so this would take days to verify).
I've thought about managing my music manually, but I would have to rebuild everything from scratch on the phone which would take days and I'd never get everything back to the right place.
In as much as I'm otherwise liking iOS 7, the new iTunes app for iOS 7 has been a real pain. This is what's really put me over the edge on it!
If you all have any suggestions that could help, I'd really appreciate it! The playlist I'm referencing most specifically is my most-used playlist and I'd love to have it right.
    Thanks!

  • My playlists on iTunes are different from my iPhone 5s

My playlists on iTunes [version 12.1 for Windows (64-bit)]  are completely different  (names, order, contents) from the playlists on my iPhone 5s (IOS 8.1.3). How can I "transfer"  the lists organized in iTunes to the iPhone?  Formerly, I didn´t have problems to synchronize them.

I am having the same problems with my iphone as well. I deleted the software and reinstalled it and for the life of me it would not load my apps that i have recently purchased.
My suggestion to you is to try and run a dianostic test from iTunes with your iPhone connected to the computer. it might help.

  • 2 Issues: asked to authorize computer that is already authorized.  Library and playlist on itunes is gone.  Is there a way to move items from my ipod onto itunes?

When I want to add an application itunes continually has me sign in, it then tells me this computer is already authorized, then the process starts all over again and no applications get transferred due to this.
I recently deleted files to free space on my laptop.  Turns out I must have deleted what itunes was linked to.  Is there a way to get my playlist from my ipod onto itunes or do I need to find all those CDs again and upload them?

    - You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For non-iTunes purchased music you need a third-party progam like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
On the iPOo and the computer are those signed into the iTunes accunt that purchased the apps?
One computer go to iTues>Store sign out of existing account and sign into the one you want.  For the iPod go to Settings>Store

  • All my music files that were in iTunes are gone!

Just opened iTunes for the first time in a few days and everything in my music library is gone.  I have hundreds of songs, talks, etc. stored there, a collection going back ten years.  I am using a MacBook Pro running the latest version of Mavericks, 10.9.2.  Something updated yesterday or the day before and it didn't tell me what it was.  Looking at the history of updates all I see is a security update in the past couple of days.  Did that do something to my Music library?
This is pretty serious as I can't replace some of the things that I had stored there.  I'm afraid to sync by iPhone or my iPad because the content they have will be wiped out.  I hope they are still stored on my computer.  I'll go look for the library now,  but wanted to get this out there in case there is a simple fix.
I read the past day of two of posts here and don't see anyone else with this problem.
    Need some help please.

Well where is your library located now if not in the iTunes folder?  See the links below on what your iTunes folder should look like and put it back together:
