My podcast feed stopped being updated in iTunes

The same podcast feed that I've been using for three years recently stopped working in iTunes, though it's still working correctly in other tests that I've run. The feed corresponds to a blog, and my blogreader shows the updated content correctly (including the podcast attachment). Yet it won't update in iTunes.
I use Feedburner and its Smartcast settings to format correctly for iTunes. As I mentioned, this is the same setup I've used for almost 100 podcast episodes spanning almost three years. I don't believe anything there has changed.
Other steps I've tried...
1. Subscribing to the feed directly using the Advanced menu, entering the feed directly. The subscription works (so does subscribing through the iTunes Podcast Directory).
2. Pinging the podcast in iTunes. That also worked, as I received a successful response ("Podcast Ping Received")
3. Running my feed through www.feedvalidator.org. This also worked, but with a message that may be helpful:
Congratulations!
[Valid RSS] This is a valid RSS feed.
Recommendations
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
* line 2, column 4336: description should not contain relative URL references: img/mp3.jpg (17 occurrences)
... italic;">-Mark</span></a></description><thr:total xmlns:t ...
^
* line 2, column 11586: itunes:summary should not contain HTML: & (16 occurrences)
... 0 minutes. I think you'll like it. -Mark</itunes:summary><itunes:keyword ...
^
* line 2, column 27026: itunes:subtitle should not contain HTML: &
... mes. It always helps to know those thing</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author ...

The things you've listed shouldn't prevent the podcast episodes from showing (though you shouldn't put HTML in the descriptions and summary because iTunes doesn't render it, it just dislays the HTML which looks messy).
FeedValidator can flag a file as valid even though it contains errors which affect iTunes: for example a missing <enclosure> tag tends not to be picked up, though without it iTunes won't see the episode.
Do you feel like posting the URL of your feed file? (Please include the http://.)

  • My podcast feed won't update on iTunes. Why? And what can I do to fix?

I do a weekly podcast and hasn't updated since Sept 21st for whatever reason. Even though the rss feed shows the new episode with the enclosure link, it's not updated on iTunes. I use libsyn.com to upload the audio files and then use the enclosure links they supply me with to put on a small blog post in blogger. I then send the blogger RSS feed to send to iTunes, which has worked for 31 episodes... until now, when I've tried to upload episode 32.
The blogger feed I use in feedburner is: http://muaythaiguypodcast.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?=rss
The feedburner feed I send to iTunes is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/lfqKK
I tried changing the feedburner feed, but that didn't do anything. I'm also in the process of redesigning my website using wordpress, and have thought about using powerpress to keep the podcast updated. Would that be a good idea?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

You have sent iTunes to the wrong feed URL. There is a feed at the URL you quote, but your iTunes Store page, which is at
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/muay-thai-guy-podcast/id636798781
is looking for a feed at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/lfqKK
There is no file at that address. So now you have painted yourself into a corner. I would guess that you aren't able to get a feed up at that Feedburner address? If you can, then you need to add the 'new-feed-url' tag to (or the original feed) as described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
If you are unable to do that your only option (other than abandoning the podcast page and re-submitting as entirely new podcast) is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to change the Store to the correct URL - give them the URL of the Store page and both feed URLs. I can't guarantee they will do this, but it's quite possible and would solve your problem.
If you do have to resubmit, you will have to change the title slightly or you will be told the feed has already been submitted.

  • BBC Global News Podcast No Longer Being Updated in iTunes

BBC Global News podcasts have not been uploaded to Apple's iTunes server since 11 October.  Neither Apple nor BBC have explained why.
Current episodes have continued to be available by RSS and on the BBC server at http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/globalnews

Another great app to get the BBC Global News and a variety of others is Stitcher Radio for Podcasts by Stitcher, Inc, https://appsto.re/us/H99kr.i

  • Why isn't my podcast author value being updated in the iTunes store

I have three podcast feeds and recently updated the value in the author tag from "The MetalsPeakers" to "MetalsPeak.com". For some reason, that update is only showing up for one of the three feeds when I look them up in the iTunes store.
    Here are the three feeds:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/MetalsPeakInterviews
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/MetalsPeakPodcast
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/Metalspeak-Reviews
The first two still show "The MetalsPeakers" but the last one shows "MetalsPeak.com". I'm assuming this is coming from the author tag, but could be wrong. At any rate, I don't have "The MetalsPeakers" in any of these feeds anymore so does that mean it was cahced or something in the store? Is there someway to reset it?
    Thanks!

Your podcast has not been removed: it is at
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/from-the-word/id129024499
I was able to find it by searching, though it was some way down the results and not on the initial results page: you are competing with a lot of similar podcasts: the way to get to the top is to have a more unique title.

  • Made No Changes, But Podcast Feed Stopped Updated

My podcast feed has not updated for a month or so now and I cannot figure out why.
I use feedburner and have used the same procedure every episode no problem but it just started doing this.
What other info can I provide in order to troubleshoot?
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/FullMetalNerdcast
You'll notice the two most recent episodes don't have the "PLAY NOW" button while the rest of them do...

The latest episode to appear in both the iTunes Store and when subscribing in iTunes is 63. The two subsequent episodes do not have 'enclosure' tags containing the URLs of the media files, as is required by iTunes. Consequently iTunes does not see these episodes as containing media and so does not display them.
You have constructed your feed in FeedForAll, about which I'm afraid I can't advise: there is obviously something you need to do to make these episodes iTunes-compliant.

  • Podcast List view not updated with iTunes 11.3.1.2

Podcast List view not updated with iTunes 11.3.1.2
    Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1 / Intel-i7 2.40 GHz / 8GB RAM / 64-bit
    iTunes 11.3.1.2
After refreshing my Podcast list, some Podcasts with new episodes do not display the "Unplayed" blue dot.
If the podcast "folder" is expanded by clicking the triangle, the new episodes are shown with a "Unplayed" blue dot.
A new episode is shown in the My Podcast view, with the correct number of new episodes.
The new episodes are displayed in the All Unplayed view.
I've tried deleting all episodes and downloading new episodes from the iTunes Store.
I've tried Unsubscribing and deleting the podcast, then Subscribing again from the iTunes Store.
    Neither attempt resolved the issue.
I've seen this issue for a while, and was disappointed to find no change with the iTunes 11.3.1.2 update.

it finally worked; got my Rush 24/7 downloaded, and it finally found my iPhone after switching from the USB 4 port Hub to a dedicated USB 2.0 slot on my laptop.

  • My ipod nano 2nd generation stopped being recognised in itunes. using windows 8, all our other ipods are fine

My ipod nano 2nd gen just stopped being recognised in itunes. I'm using windows 8.1..and not had any problems with ipod touch 5th generation or nano 7th gen.
The ipod charges up as indicated by the battery icon but not being recognised at all in itunes or as a connected device or drive on my PC. was working fine the day before then just stopped. I can still listen to the ipod but obviously not load on new songs as not being recognised.

Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and get it serviced. Sounds like the headphone jack has failed.

  • Not understanding why my podcast isn't being accepted by iTunes

I recently submitted a feed for my new podcast to Apple. Here is the feed:
    http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:109836704/sounds.rss
    They responded:
    Dear podcast owner,
The podcast located at the URL shown below has been blocked or removed from the iTunes directory as a result of technical problems with the feed.
    Name: Calvinist Batman
    Feed URL: http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:109836704/sounds.rss
If you wish to reactivate your podcast in the iTunes directory, please troubleshoot your feed and check the functionality of each episode. To test your podcast, start iTunes, select Subscribe to Podcast from the Advanced menu, and enter your feed URL in the dialog box. If you can successfully subscribe to your podcast and listen to each of the episodes, you can reactivate your podcast by resubmitting the feed using the Submit a Podcast page,https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast.
For more information on troubleshooting feed problems and controlling the appearance of your podcast on iTunes, please see the podcast FAQ at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/faq.html and technical specification at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html.
    Regards,
    The iTunes Store team
Originally it looked like the artwork wasn't to scale so I fixed that and then resubmitted it. But no response from Apple has come back. I have tried almost 15 times and I haven't heard back from them.
Can anyone tell me why my podcast isn't being approved? Please?
    Thanks!
    @calvinistbatman

When you enter the URL of your top media file in a browser it downloads instead of playing within the browser as it should. This means that although it works in the iTunes application, the Store can't play it within its own page.
You need to set each file not to download. eiznem has posted the process:

  • Hi, my podcast feed is not updating.

Is there a way that I can check my podcast feed in iTunes?
Here's the link that my Blubrry PowerPress plugin created http://desireestafford.com/feed/podcast/
The feed validator shows it as a webpage instead of a feed. How do I correct it?

You're going to have to ensure that it saves the feed with the same filename and URL as before otherwise the Store will lose contact with your feed. As long as it's the same, just re-upload it: subscribers will see the changes pretty well immediately but the Store will take a couple of days or so to update.
To check whether your feed is working you can either click the 'Subscribe' button on your Store page, or choose 'Subscribe to podcast' from the file menu and enter the URL of your feed. Doing this simply enables your iTunes application to read the feed: it has no connection with the Store. Currently of course it's not working because of the problem with the feed.

  • Podcast episodes won't update in iTunes since July - Please help!

I've had a podcast posted in iTunes since May and everything has worked fine up until a month ago. It's showing that the last episode update was on 7/27, when we've posted three new videos since then. Subscribers do receive the new videos, but the "About" page is still missing episodes that were posted over a month ago.
We've changed nothing about the feed format, and all other podcast services are posting info correctly (ie., podcastpup, podcast alley, etc.). I've pinged the feed after every update and contacted tech support with no feedback. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to check when having trouble is to validate your feed with the feed validator at http://www.feedvalidator.org . You have problems with the length of two of your entries. You (or your software) added the phrase " bytes" after the number for the size of the enclosure. Remove the space and the word bytes so there is just a number between the quotes, and try it again. Make sure you update the pubDate for the channel so that the iTunes server will re-process the feed. Good luck, hope this helps. Mike

  • My Wordpress dot Coms podcast feeds are not updating

    Hello All,
Since Saturday the feeds for my three podcasts (hosted by wordpress.com) aren't updating in iTunes....other programs that I download seemed to download in my iTunes program just fine but not the three I own/produce. Was there a glitch this weekend or do I have an issue?
    http://thewritersshow.wordpress.com/feed
    http://thisweekintennispodcast.wordpress.com/feed
    http://phillipnaessens.wordpress.com
Thanks in advance for your help/advice
    Phil

Taking the first episode you list, the media file URL in the feed is
    http://archive.org/download/TheWritersShowcaseWithPhilNaessensMaryAnnBernal/TheW ritersShowcasePodcastE02MaryAnnBernal_mixdown.mp3
    This redirects to
    http://ia801609.us.archive.org/35/items/TheWritersShowcaseWithPhilNaessensMaryAn nBernal/TheWritersShowcasePodcastE02MaryAnnBernal_mixdown.mp3
    which does work.
The URL you gave in your earlier post doesn't, as it leads to an archive.org web page; that page has a link to an MP3 file -
    http://archive.org/download/PNS2042013/PNS2042013.mp3
    This leads to
    http://ia601501.us.archive.org/22/items/PNS2042013/PNS2042013.mp3
which does work, so presumably it's that you should be using.
I would normally be suspicious about something like archive.org but if you use the direct URL it does seem to be working OK: and surprisingly it appears to handle 'byte range requests' (the method used by iPhones which is now mandatory for new podcasts).

  • Help! my ipod stopped being recognized by itunes

I plugged my ipod in (i have a pc). it updated, and had finished updating (stopped saying do not unplug)...
then, out of boredom, i changed the name on my ipod icon in itunes, and then i looked at my ipod and everything was gone, all songs, all everything. so i unplugged it and plugged it back in again and it said this:
"cannot recognize ipod. use ipod updater application to restore ipod to factory settings."
according to the support website, there is nothing wrong with me changing the name on my ipod, and it shouldn't have caused everything to be erased. so, after poking around on the help website, it suggested i reset my ipod, so i did, and that didn't work. i looked up instructions on how to do restore it to the factory settings, and it had me download the software updater, but that didn't do anything, and it still doesn't register.
also, i just looked in the "about" option on my ipod, and it says that somewhere all of my songs are on there, because i have 3.7 free gb, and 18.5 used. which sounds about right, except that all my songs are gone.
    help, please!!!!

oh also. i forgot a few things. first, itunes completely stopped recognizing my ipod, so i can't change my name back to what it used to be.. every time i try to plug it in, the same error message comes up.
and, also, when i said "it had me download the software updater, but that didn't do anything and it still doesn't register" i mean that its still not being recognized by itunes.
when i looked at the link for restoring factory settings, it didn't make sense to me. i couldnt do the first steps because itunes isn't recognzing anything... i downloaded the updater it told me to, but it wouldn't let me do the whole "start" "run" thing, and i'm not really sure how to do that or how its relevant to what i downloaded, so if whoever helps me out on this could either clarify those instructions or give me different ones, i'd appreciate it.
    sorry this is so long-winded.
I just got this last week, i'm kinda sad/annoyed that i'm having problems already.
thanks for any help in advance.

  • Switched from Podpress to Powerpress and now feed is not updating in iTunes - Please help

    Please help...at my wit's end!
A few days ago I switched from using Podpress to Powerpress for my podcast. I followed all instructions and my feed appears to be valid. However, my podcast is not updating in iTunes at all and when I tried to resubscribe, I got an error message that said that there are no playable episodes.
Please, please...someone help. I really don't know what else to do and trying to get support from Apple or Blubrry has been fruitless.
    My feed is: http://www.surrealla.com/feed/podcast/
    Thank you!

    Hi Roger,
Well, I was unable to locate the old feed (I don't even know if it exists in the conventional way, since it was set up by Podpress), and attempted to remove my podcast completely from iTunes in order to start fresh. Unfortunately, it appears as though iTunes no longer does this and instead directs you to add a <block> tag to your feed....and around we go.
So I've pleaded via Express Lane to please, please have someone change my feed to the new http://www.surrealla.com/feed/podcast/ ...that old feed should have never been set up that way in the first place. Argh.
Question: Can I resubmit my podcast to iTunes without deleting the old one? I'd hate to do that...seems tacky...but I have no idea what else to do if the pleading doesn't work.
Thank you again - you've been so helpful!

  • How do I copy across my list of subscribed podcast feeds to another edition of iTunes on a new PC?

I'm in the process of transferring to a new PC. I've installed iTunes but now I want to populate it with the same list of podcast feeds that I have in the old PC. Is there a straightforward way of copying across all my existing feeds or do I have to re-subscribe to each in turn on the new PC?

The best thing is to copy the entire iTunes folder across from the old computer to the new one. This brings over all your media, podcast subscriptions, ratings, playback history etc.  Most important of all it will also preserve the library identity so that any devices you have won't need to be wiped when you change which PC they sync with.

  • IPhone stopped being recognized by iTunes with 10.6 update.

I have followed the instructions on the apple site.   My phone is a 3GS.   My computer is Windows 7 32bit.  Here is what I have done. (3 times)
    Hard Reboot Phone
    Restart Apple Mobile Phone Service
Remove and reinstall all Apple software
I rebooted the computer after the uninstall and after reinstalling iTunes.
The odd thing is that when I plug the iphone in after the reinstall, the driver install fails.   I go out and uninstall the driver with a delete of the existing driver and then plug it back in and it seems to install correctly.   Yet iTunes refuses to recognize it.
I tried calling Apple, but even though they broke it, they will not talk to me to fix it unless I buy a support incident.   Sounds like a good business model.  Break people's products, then charge them to fix your error.  I have wasted a couple of work days on this.
My wife has the 4GS and I don't like it.  If I am forced to change phones because of this, my next phone will not be an iPhone.
    Thanks,
    Scott

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!
