My podcasts show up as music in my iPod

When my iPod (5th generation) is synched with iTunes, all my podcasts are correctly sorted separately both in my library and iPod. But when I eject and browse through my Ipod, my podcasts show up both under 'podcasts' and under 'music'. How do I organise them so they are not filed under music?

I have a similar question although I'm looking for the opposite outcome. I want to know how tracks are identified as either a podcast, audiobook or music as well. I want to take episodes of podcasts and take them out of the podcast category and put them into the music or audiobooks category instead. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for both of us!

  • Video Podcasts show up as Music

    Here is my problem:
I downloaded a couple video podcasts from iTMS and copied them to my ipod. They play fine in iTunes, but on my ipod they dont show up anywhere in the video section, only in the music section. When I 'get info' within iTunes they both show as 'Movie' in the Movie Kind field. I am using iTunes version 6.0.2.23 (Windows), Cd Driver 2.0.43, Cd Driver DLL 2.0.3.2, Ipod Video 30G, Version 1.0.
    Now for some additional info...
When I am transfering the video to the ipod, I am doing this manually because I use both my home and work machines with my ipod.
Here are some things I have tried:
I first attempted to download the video podcasts using iTMS on my work machine with the result being that the videos showing up under my music and not showing up under video anywhere.
I downloaded a video (not using iTMS) on my work machine and then imported it into the library and then manually copied it to my ipod and it worked just fine.
I attempted to 'Convert The Selection For Ipod' within iTunes (again work machine) for the iTMS downloaded video podcasts and it tells me that the files were not converted because they are already in the correct format. I am wondering if the problem is somehow related to the fact that these files have been downloaded through the podcast subscription? I cant see any reason why, but just throwing some things out there.
I attempted to download the video podcasts using iTMS on my home machine with the same results. As a last effort at this time, I tried the transfer again, and left it to transfer overnight.
Using a different computer (not work or home) I rebuilt Windows XP Pro from scratch. The only thing installed was service pack 2, then installed the same version of iTunes (6.0.2.23) and had a slightly different experience. One of the podcasts in questions did the exact same thing, that is showing up under music and no video playing. The other podcast however ended up showing up and played fine. Now my problem is I dont know if the new machine transferred it correctly or if it was transferred correctly from my home machine the night before (I overlooked checking it before attempting the transfer on the new machine.) I have since then attempted to transfer the problem file on the new machine and it failed again.
Now, has anyone managed to experience and resolve this issue? I know that I should update the ipod to 1.1 and try again, but since I have read about all of the problems with video on the new version I am a little hesitant to do that. Anyone have any suggestions on what ot try next, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade the ipod?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

OK, tried some new things, here is the latest update:
I went ahead and bit the bullet, upgraded to 1.1. Deleted the video files from the music section of the ipod and then attempted to manually transfer the files. Still, the same symptoms occured.
Next step, performed a restore on the ipod (using the latest updater (thus retaining version 1.1), then set the ipod to sync with itunes on the work machine. Videos uploaded fine, show up in the Videos section and even play as videos on the ipod! Now we are getting somewhere.
Once I arrived home, I plugged the ipod into my home machine, told it yes, that I wanted to delete the content and attach the ipod to itunes on my home machine. Once all my music downloaded to the ipod, I subscribed to the video podcasts, they downloaded, then I synced the ipod, and they show up in the video section and play as videos. Everything seems to work fine!
My next step will be to disable auto sync and manually add some video podcasts to the ipod and see if it will function then. I will update the thread once that is complete.

  • Video podcast shows up as music podcast

when i downloaded the video podcast off itunes music store,on the itune it shows up as video but in my ipod it wont show up as a video but shows up as musics as in i cant see anything but i can still hear sounds.Does anyone knwo how i can get the podcast to show up as video? and where i can find it?

Is it showing up under Videos-->video podcasts?
If you access it through the music section of the iPod (music-->podcasts), it will not play the video.
If you are accessing it through videos-->video podcasts and it still only plays audio, try this.
    Go to videos-->video settings-->TV Out-->off

  • Podcasts show up as music and not podcasts

All of my podcasts synch to my iPhone as music and do not show up under podcasts. They do show up as podcasts in my iTunes. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone know a solution to this?

After selecting the orange “iPod” button on the bottom right of the iPhone screen then follow the directions from page 66 of the iPhone User’s Guide (below) to replace one of the Browse Buttons with the Podcasts icon.
Changing the Browse Buttons at the Bottom of the Screen
You can replace the Playlists, Artist, Songs, or Videos browse buttons at the bottom of the screen with ones you use more. For example, if you listen to podcasts a lot and don’t watch many videos, you can replace the Videos button with Podcasts.
Tap More and tap Edit, then drag a button to the bottom of the screen, over the button you want to replace.
If you like, drag the buttons at the bottom of the screen left or right to rearrange them.
    When you finish, tap Done.
Tap More at any time to access the browse buttons you replaced.

  • Itunes library doesn't show all the music on the ipod

Hello, My daughter's ipod version 6.1.6 shows that there should be 800 songs on her device. We plugged into the pc and the itunes menu showed this but when you go to the ipod itself and access the information that is on the ipod in the About section on the device it shows that it has only 197 songs on it. so what do i do to get the 800 back onto the ipod. thanks for the help

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device

  • Itunes not showing I have music on my iPod Touch 5th Gen.

Earlier I plugged my iPod into my computer and an error message occurred saying itunes couldn't read my iPod so I tried to find a solution online and found this site I went through the steps and plugged my ipod in. Now my itunes is saying there is no music yet the status bar still says there is music/files. I really don'y know what to do or where to start.
Edit: I also tried to back up my music with Share Pod to be safe and it is also saying my ipod is empty. My music still works on my iPod it still plays.

    - Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if you have a backup. If you have one restore from that backup
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
Also, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage and backup and see if yoo have an iCloud backup. If so then restore from that backup
iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud
    - Last, try backing up and then restore from backup if you could make one

  • Podcasts show in MUSIC instead of Podcast

Why are the podcasts showing in the music menu rather than the podcast menu?
    Thanks

Yeah I have the same problem. It would be cool if you could put it in the appropriate podcast folder it would find it and add it automatically. Unfortunately this doesn't work, so the only option I've found is to add it to the library which, as you know, just adds it with your music. I can't find a way to add a podcast you had to download not using itunes.
Is there really nobody with an answer to this question?

  • Unocking the music on my iPod in iTunes

Hi all, I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out on this: I've been uploading to my new 80GB Classic through iTunes on my Dell Windows Vista laptop. A few days ago my internet connection died, so I gave my brother, who has a Dell XP desktop, my iPod and a bunch of CDs to upload for me, rather than me having to type all the details out manually on my laptop. I got the iPod back yesterday. My brother couldn't upload the CDs onto my iPod on his computer - there was an authorisation issue with my iPod. I connected the iPod to my own laptop and loaded the CDs, typing the details in but now the music on my iPod is locked in iTunes - the text showing all the music on my iPod is grey rather than black and I can't drag it or right click on it. I can still load music onto my iPod but once it's on I can't manually manage it, I can only synch it automatically. I have an old Nano and that doesn't have the problem, so I presume the issue arises from some authorisation / locking type issue when my iPod was connected to my brother's PC. If anyone has any solutions to how I can unlock iPod music on iTunes I'd be very grateful. Thanks, Dave.

Any iPod that is set for auto-sync will behave this way. In order to make changes, you need to make changes to the songs in your library and then re-sync. Only an iPod that is in "manual mode" (i.e. drag and drop) allows you to edit the content on the iPod itself.

  • Podcasts & Audiobooks show up under Music Songs

Hi. I have my iPod rather organized and I like that. The Podcasts show up under Podcasts and the Audiobooks show up under Audiobooks.
However, now I notice that when I go to Music>Songs both my Podcasts and Audiobooks show up there. I don't like that and I don't want to access them that way. Is there a way I can change the settings so that the Podcasts and Audiobooks don't show up under "songs"?

The Music>Songs folder just lists ALL the audio files on your iPod. That doesn't mean that they'll play along with your other songs though. By default podcasts and audiobooks are usually set to the "Skip when shuffling" option.
So, selecting a song from Music>Songs won't add the podcasts and audiobooks to your Now Playing playlist. Just try it out. Select a podcast from your Music>Songs list. This will add only this podcast with the rest of the other Music files (that's the list in iTunes).
I know it's weird. Here's what you can do. Make a playlist with all music with options to remove podcasts and audiobooks.

  • Podcasts show up on ipod in music folder

how can i keep podcasts from appearing in my music folder on my ipod??
they go into both the podcast folder AND the music floder.
    thx

I have a somewhat similar problem.
In iTunes (on windows xp), I have set up the podcasts tab of my ipod to have the "sync" box unchecked.
This seems to me that it would NOT sync my podcasts which is what I want... music is better anyways.
    However,
When I go into my ipod nano 2nd gen, the podcasts folder is not in music (GOOD SO FAR). When I go to music, sort by genre, and choose "podcast" my podcasts are there and can play... therefore they are taking up space (and not even showing up in the front door).
Anyone else able to re-create this? Any fixes?

  • How do I move the podcasts that show up as music albums to podcasts?

I recently shifted iTunes to a new computer and purchased a new iPod Classic.  Some of my podcasts show up as Podcasts, but others show up as music albums.  How do I reorganize all of my podcasts as podcasts?
    Thanks

Follow these instructions to add it to itunes.
    Open iTunes
        File
    Add File To Library
Select File And Add It To Library Or Just Drag It Into iTunes
And it should add to iTunes. If you need any more info just tell me!

  • Getting song downloaded in a podcast to show up in music library

I subscribe to a podcast thqt downloads one free song per day. These show up in the recently added library, but not the general music library. Any tips on getting them to show up in music library? I have searched around, but have not found an answer.

Almost followed your advice of doing a conversion.
Though it grieved me greatly: I have a 2+ hour
    concert that's a keeper
In another thread, someone (forget as I read
dozens of messages) mentioned that podcasts have
    an invisible tag in them.
I used mp3tag to delete all tags from the file
and then I typed them in by hand. When I did an
import into my library it worked -- and there
    was much rejoycing.
    Note that mp3tag did not display the hidden tag;
it was only able to delete it as part of a "delete
    all tags" operation.
This process could certainly be automated: dump
the tags to a text file and reload them. Rinse.
    Repeat.
    Anyway, hope this helps
