My power mac would not start it flashing the glob signal

I was trying to start my power mac this morning but it keep flashing the globe signal on a gray screen, I cannot use my mac
can some one know how to fix it?

That results from the Startup Disk preference having somehow been set to NetBoot volume, as discussed in this Aple KBase article -
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25439?viewlocale=en_US
The solution is to wait it out until it finally boots normally - this can take several minutes. Then correct the setting in Startup Disk (in System Preferences).

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • Power mac will not start

my brother just bought the new 27inch imac and was going to migrate from his power mac. his power mac is now dead. it will not start at all. any ideas

I decided to get a hard drive enclosure. I chose the Mercury Elite Pro...highly recommended in my Mac magazines.
The ones from OWC are easy to put drives in, even for a beginner. Easy to understand instructions and they back up their merchandise 100%, no questions asked. Now if a drive goes bad, I can put a new one in the enclosure in minutes (or put a bigger one in). Mine works great!
But make sure you get an enclosure that uses the PowerMac drive. Since you did not tell us what model he has we can not advise as to which one he needs.
Once the Migration is over, he can reformat the drive to GUID (for Intel) and use it as a backup drive....always needed! DALE

  • Power Mac G5 not starting up properly

When I power on my G5, I get the apple screen and the swirl below that it is loading....then monitor screen suddenly goes to black & "no signal" displayed on the screen.  Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix?  Thanks.

Good morning!  Here's where I am now.
    1. Did safe boot>finder>disk utility>.calculate image checksum (CRC-32)> select disk 149.1 GB ST3160815AS>Verify disk permissions......result: permissions verification complete--looking at details log, shows several instances of "Permissions differ on: System/library/coreservices/front row.app, System/library/Private F Frameworks/backrow/framework; or.../Private Frameworks/BackRow.framework; or.../Private Frameworks/DotMacSyncManage; or...Extensions/iousbmassStorageClass.kex;or.../SystemProfiler/SPDisplaysReport er.spre...  Also log shows ACL found but not expected on Applications/Utilities.....also on Applications....and also on Library.  I didn't understand any of it, so don't know if this is meaningful.
    2. Then did Repair Permissions.....result: Permissions repair complete.
    3. Verify Disk....result: Volume appears to be OK .  At this point, Repair Disk button was not available.
    4. System Preferences>Other row.....shows Apple Qmaster.  Could not find any of the other items you mentioned...private/var/run/startupitems, etc...They were not listed in the Systems Preferences folder, so don't know where else to look.
    5. Other info:  the monitor is a 24" Soyo I have been using with a Windows PC, and it is connected to the G5 through the DVI port using an Apple DVI-VGA adapter.  From the "About this Mac" folder. the graphics card is ATI Radeon 9600 XT, and the Monitor Resolution is listed as 1280x1024@60Hz.  There is a heading of "Display Connector:" which lists Status; No Display Connected.  Then, in System Preferences>Displays, shows VGA Display, and lists resolutions, with 1280x1024 highlighted.
    6. Did a restart....Same results as previously, Apple grey screen with swirl for about 15 secs., then black screen and no signal.
Thanks BDAqua, and Arigatoo Gozaimasu, Japamac.  I'm not ready to give up yet, so any other suggestions are appreciated.

    Couple of more ideas...
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
See which one your G5 has...

  • TS1440 Flashing circle prohibition sign, Mac will not start. Help!

    Hi there,
I need some guidance can some techie please help me!
My Mac book pro, 10.6 will not start, a flashing prohibition sign and a folder with a question mark appears on my screen.
I have shut down and tried thePRAM start up but nothing. I have snow leopard disk, should I re install. Will I lose all my data?
I recently updated iTunes and  a day later my computer crashed. Any help would be appreciated.
    Love,
    Kind stranger

If your machine was upgraded to OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountian Lion, then DO NOT PROCEED!
The 10.6 disks cannot be used for 10.7 or 10.8, if that's the case, then let me know as a different method is involved.
On the second screen booted from the 10.6 disk, under Utilities menu is Disk Utility.
Select your entire internal boot drive on the left, it should have a name and a size.
Click First Aid > Repair Disk and Repair Permissions.
If the drive doesn't appear on the left, it may mean it's dead or there is a broken connection between the drive and the computer.
If Disk Utility says "can't repair, backup and erase and install" then the drive works, it's that it can't repair the file structure, likely because of a failed sector on the drive (may be natural or caused by shock or failing drive)
However you don't have to erase if it says to do so, if the drive works mechanically the data can be recovered.
The drive may work fine if removed from the machine as well if it's not showing up on the left in Disk Utility.
If the drive doesn't work, then the data can be recovered if it wasn't Filevaulted, but the platter dissection required is expensive.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?
If the drive is repaired, do it again.
After the drive is repaired, Quit Disk Utiltiy and select Reset Password from the Utilties menu.
Don't change the password if your just repairing user permissions, instead select the drive at top and the account your having issues with.
See an area labeled Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the button.
After that, quit and your in the OS X install screen, select the boot volume and click Install, this will overwrite OS X 10.6 with a fresh copy.
Quit and restart, then when you log in hit Apple Menu > Software Update until clear, you should be on 10.6.8
Some third party programs may not work, you will have to reinstall them from original sources and make sure they are compliant with 10.6.8

Now that you mentioned it, that might be the source of the problem. Something was definitely wrong with my graphics card before the incident happened. You mean that particular batch of graphics cards had some inherent issues, right? I went to the genius bar, and the 'genius' there, without trying to diagnose the problem properly, just adviced me to buy a new mbp! He said Apple will no longer try to fix or touch macs older than 5 yrs. Mine is 5.5 yrs old...

  • My Intel Mac does not start.

My Intel Mac does not start. When I turn it on I hear a loud beep (a sound I never heard before) and then I see the spinning wheel and nothing else. I tried to start from the installation disc, I also try to reset the SMC and the PRAM. Nothing worked. I replaced the RAM cards too. It is a IMac 24"/2  Intel. Model number A1200 2006.

When I turn it on I hear a loud beep
Beeps are an indication the RAM (memory) is failing or has failed.
Power On Self-Test Beep Definition - Part 2
If you feel confident doing this, you can purchase RAM online. Crucial comes highly recommended. You can use their scanner >   Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Crucial Mac System Scanner
And uninstall the bad RAM, then reinstall new >  iMac: How to remove or install memory
Or, take your Mac to an Apple Store.
The beep sound is not permissions related.

  • Because of low battery my iphone 5 got switched off and than its not starting by pressing the power button and in charge the white screen comes for 2 second and goes

Because of low battery my iphone 5 got switched off and than its not starting by pressing the power button or by keeping it on charge. While charging a white screen comes for 2 second and goes away. This process continues till the phone is on charge. Please suggest how can I start my phone.

    Hello Ritugor,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

    Flip4Mac shouldn't have been a problem.
The Windows version of anything won't run on a Mac, the binaries are different. So no "PC Studio".
So the only thing I see is a Mac version of Kies, which allows you to manage your Samsung phone.
The spec call for a 10.5 or later, is very unlikely to work with 10.6.8 or 10.7, as there was some "changes"
Usually holding shift key while booting disables the third party kext files that cause the computer to freeze, which would allow you to remove the offending ones from your System/Library/Extensions folder.
Your remedy would be to hold c boot off the 10.6 installer disk (or hold command r boot if on 10.7) and simply overwrite OS X with a fresh copy (leaves your files and other programs alone), that will bump out the Samsung hacks in OS X itself, then immediatly software update to 10.6.8.
If you need replacement 10.6 grey disks then call Apple with a credit card and your serial number (about this mac >more info)
There is nothing you can do at this point without a fresh version of OSX 10.6, unless you know where all the Samsung hacks are and can remove them from Single User mode (aka root)

I installed Yosemite and my mac will not start, as I can reload the previous system

    Hi c.perez,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be both frustrating and concerning when you cannot turn on your computer. In this situation there are several troubleshooting steps that I would recommend. Please use the attached article as a guide for troubleshooting.

  • My vintage Power Mac will not power on.  The power on button lights up, but dims after releasing the button.  What is the problem?

My vintage Power Mac will not power on.  The power on button glows bright when pressed, but dims to off after releasing the button.  What is the problem?

The battery is the PRAM battery:
Your Mac stores certain settings in a special memory area even if it is turned off (unless there is a battery issue as described below).  On Intel-based Macs, this is stored in memory known as NVRAM; on PowerPC-based Macs, this is stored in memory known as PRAM. Information stored in NVRAM or PRAM may include:
    Speaker volume
    Screen resolution
    Startup disk selection
You may need to reset the NVRAM or PRAM if you experience issues related to these functions. For example, if your Mac starts up from a startup disk other than the one you've specified in Startup Disk preferences, or if a "question mark" icon appears briefly when your Mac starts up, resetting NVRAM or PRAM may help.

Can I purchase a replacement battery at Walmart?
    Likely not.
Order one at OWC for the best price ($20+ at Radio Shack):
NewerTech 3.6VPRAM 3.6v Lithium 1/2 AA PRAM... in stock at OWC
But have not sure what a PSU is or how to test it.
    PSU- Power Supply Unit.
Then the steps that I deswcribed may be a bit advanced for you?
The PSU is the gray box at the top rear of the interior, the box to which the power cord is attached and has the fan blowing hot air out.

Ok Apple users...Is there a way to delete e-mails on my Mac and not have to delete the same e-mails on my iPhone, and iPad...and vise-versa. I have the Cloud, and thought that everything would sync all of the time. If you know of a setting I need to adjust, please let me know.

Are you referring to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com emails? Or some other email providers emails?
If the former, it should do that automatically. If the latter, no. iCloud does not (nor is it supposed to) sync non-Apple provided emails.
