My power/sleep button on my iPhone 5 has been malfunctioning.

Only the left side works. Do you guys think Apple would fix it if I have T-Mobile running on it?

I've had an unresponsive sleep button last year with the iPhone 5 (about 9 months after I bought it outright). Brought it to the Apple store in Sydney and had it replaced for free with no questions asked.
The Apple genius checked to make sure that there was no water damage and checked the IMEI to make sure it was under warranty. Otherwise it would cost money to have it replaced.

    Hi Hamish1P,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like an app you installed is not working. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • My power/sleep button on my iPhone 5 isnt working properly, if at all! HELP!!

My power button on my iPhone 5 isnt working properly, if at all!! Pls help!

    What exactly happened?
would you notice a mechanical issue with the button?
if its a hardware issue and your under the warranty, you could have the device be repaired or replace as long as there is no accidental damage and liquid damage.
you can always do a restore to isolate it from being a software issue
please do back up when doing a restore for your device

I have had my iPhone 5 for approximately 4 months, about a month ago the lock button became unresponsive not only on the right side but the left as well. Is there anyway to get this fixed without going to an Apple Store?

    Possibly not... However...
    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset

    Backing up, Updating and Restoring

  • Broken power/sleep button

I have had my iphone 4 since Oct 2010 and it is still in great condition.  But, within minutes, my power/sleep button stoped working.  It isn't stuck, but is not functioning in any way.  Is there a solution I can tackle by myself or am I out of luck?  Also, I didn't buy it directly from the apple store, I bought it from ATT. (Oct 2010ish?) Is this a fix that needs "major" or "minor" surgery?
    THANK YOU!

You can bring it to a 3rd party repair shop if you wish, but out of warranty exchange via Apple is $149.00.  AT&T does not handle repairs; don't even bother bringing it there.

  • Power/Sleep Button "Lags"

Recently I've been having problems with my Power/Sleep button. Sometimes, the button fails to respond and the only way to fix it so far is to connect it to iTunes and disconnect it.
Now at first I thought it was a software error, so I updated but still the same problem. I also restored numerous times, but no avail.
This is recently happening quite often and very annoying.
    What should I do?

If this is still happening after restoring as "new iPhone" in iTunes, there may be a hardware problem. Your only option is to make an appointment with an Apple store Genius Bar to get it checked out.

  • Power/Sleep button broke

Power/Sleep button broke, is there any way this can be fixed at home? I bought the phone 2nd hand and it still had warranty when I sent it back because of a dead pixel and a wobbly home button they said the warranty had been voided? Which confused me so I can't send it back to Apple, any help would be nice. I have ready through old dicussions but didn't seem to find much help

Apple doesn't fix stuff like this, they replace the phone. Cost for an iPhone 4S is US $199. You can try a third-party repair shop in your area, Google such...should be around US $50 or so.

  • Power/sleep button broken i need to get it into DFU mode.

Hi all i dropped my Iphone 3GS today and sadly the power/sleep button just stopped working but i really need to put it into DFU mode so i can restore the device and update the device i was wondering if there was any other way, also i have no time to go into a apple store as i am it college and work and i can't really afford to repleace this phone, if i coulf get it into DFU mode then i would be fine unto i get a new job
    Thanks in Advance.

Yes i had the phone for 1 and a half years now. and no the sim thing is when i updated to IOS5.0.1 i have read about it and it has happend to quite a few people when there updated to the IOS5 or 5.0.1, 5.1 is meant to fix this issue so i heard.
I tried the sim in a friends phone Iphone 3G, activates fine, I been down to my local orange shop there said there seen a few problems like this and it is due to the IOS5 or 5.0.1 there tried over 20 sims and managed to get one to work i think it is because of the basebind update, but anyway i have took my phone into a local repair shop and there are repairing it for me and wow there have good prices there can repair it for £30 and it be ready first thing in the morning, apple said there can repair it for £80 and it could take upto 3 weeks so i need my phone for tommorow so i took it into the repair shop and it is alot cheaper.
And @stevejobsfan0123 I just looked at your products and i must say wow i did not know one person could own so many apple products .
Thanks for all your help though .

  • Power / sleep button won't work

Using an iPad 2, the power / sleep button stopped working.  Pressing the button won't make it sleep.  Holding the button won't shut it down.  I tried a hard restart (pressing the power and home buttons at the same time) for 10 seconds then one minute, and nothing happend.  So I decided to restore the ipad and backed it up to my MBP in iTunes.  When I clicked the button to Restore a message said some apps weren't transferred, but I don't know how to transfer apps and figured that's what a back up is.  I tried drag/drop of apps but that didn't work.  I looked around for instructions how to transfer the apps but there was nothing but Back Up, so I clicked Restore.
The iPad was Restored, but all the apps were deleted and the power / sleep button still doesn't work, so it won't shut off or sleep.
    Any ideas?

More than likely, you have a hardware problem with the iPad sleep button and there is nothing that you can do about it other than to have the device replaced. That will be covered under the warranty, if the device is under one year old and if the damage was not caused by user abuse. You should probably contact Apple or take the iPad to an Apple store for evaluation.
When the iPad Ian connected to iTunes on the Mac - if you click on the iPad name under the devices heading - and then click on the Apps Tab in the iTunes window on the right - do you see your apps in iTunes? If you see them in the list, sync them back to the iPad.
If you don't see them, if they are gone .... You can download most of your purchased content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. Read more about it here.

  • My iPhone 4 has been dead for 24 hours and it has been charging for 12 hours. I have tried holding the home and lock button down but it still has the black screen, what is wrong with it? It just randomly died on means won't turn back on

My iPhone 4 has been dead for 24 hours and I've been charging it for 12 hours and it still won't turn on. I have tried holding the lock button and home button down, even connected it to computer but nothing's happening, it randomly died on me.

    Hi Lauren,
When troubleshooting power issues, we want to make sure we have followed all steps outlined in the following article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • My Lock button on my iphone 5 has stopped working, and I'm not sure what to do.

My Lock button on my iphone 5 has stopped working, and I'm not sure what to do.

This will be covered by the 1 year Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution. Until then try Settings App > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Device > Lock Screen. This can even turn iPhone OFF. To turn ON, connect to power, charger or USB of computer.

My iPhone 4S has been frozen in the loading screen I don't know how to fix it:( my lock screen button doesn't work

Without a working lock screen button, you'll probably have to wait for the battery to go dead.  Once it doesn't wake up by pressing the home button you can plug it into a charger and it will eventually reboot.
