My PowerBookG4 doesn't wake up to receive faxes

Fax modem configured and working - sending and receiving all fine
Energy saver settings set to "wake when the modem detects a ring"
Except it doesn't!.... the phoneline goes ring ring ring - the laptop goes "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"
Anyone else have this problem or got any ideas? Seems v wasteful to leave the laptop on 24/7 just to receive faxes.
Any help appreciated
Robert

Weak battery?
Apple keyboard or third party? All firmware up to date?

  • A brand new Mac Pro doesn't wake up from sleep

I got a new Mac Pro.
It has an external SATA controller and a video card with NVIDIA Quadro 4000 chipset on it.
It has a Snow Leopard installed.
The problem it has is that it doesn't wake up once it goes to sleep, either by choosing "Sleep" menu item or by using "Energy Saving" setting.
I notice some people mention a keyboard doesn't respond while his trackpad does. In my case, nothing works.
I don't know if it is due to keyboard or a magic mouse. I tried to connect another wired mouse to the enclosure of the Mac Pro directly, but it did't cause Mac Pro wake up.
By searching on Google, many people seem to have this problem, whether they have Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and so on.
Personally, I have a 17" PPC iMac, 13" MacBook with Core Duo 2, and have used MacBook Pro 17", but they didn't have this problem.
I tried to reset the SMC, but it didn't help.
Do anyone know what cause this problem and how to solve it?
Is there any patch for this?
    Thank you.

Does it sound like it's waking up but the monitor just doesn't display anything?
I ask because if so, I'm experiencing the same problem.  I have a Quad-Core Mac Pro (no external devices) and if it goes to sleep I have difficulty getting it to display anything on the monitor after waking it up.  Now, I just recently hooked up an additional monitor (VGA) for dual display, and the funny thing is, that monitor will wake, but my main monitor won't.
Sometimes I get this error after boot-up too, where the computer will get to the login screen, but my main monitor is receiving no signal ("at least according to my monitor").
If that's the same issue, then I'll post any success I find for you!
    Best,
    J

  • IPhone 3G doesn't wake up during call/sms

    hello everybody
my iPhone doesn't ring and doesn't wake up when call or sms are incoming, still sleeping.
After awaking it immediatelly shows missing calls or receives sms.
But it still online, if i call on my iPhone from another phones i hear calls, like mi mobile receives that but nobody answer.
I resetted iPhone, restored on 2.1 firmware and set it as new device - didn't help.
    Have you any advices?
    Thanks

The last few days my screen would go black when I got a call. No way to answer it. So I reinstalled 2.2 yesterday. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I must say this is one flakey phone. Was still getting dropped calls by the tons. Great computer, terrible phone. I saw in the NY Post some guy was suing Apple because of all his lost calls. I must say I don't blame him. I had a Verizon phone before this and never got dropped calls. I actually had AT&T many years ago, maybe 10 and the service was just as bad then. Frankly it seems even worse now.

  • My MacBook Pro sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep mode

Dear users, my MacBook Pro (model 5,1 - 15" Late 2008) is behaving oddly since I upgraded to OSX Lion. Sometimes, after going into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up. When I hit a key (space or enter), I see the login screen, but it's not possible to type my keyword. The only thing active is "the spinning beach ball of death", so I have to manually shut down my Mac and start over. This problem (and also other problems) did not happen in Snow Leopard. The only thing that changed in my Mac is the OS; other programs remain the same. I already tried reseting PRAM and SMC, and fixing disk errors. Thanks for your attention.

try running a hardware test and see if you get an error code: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh35727.html

  • Macbook Air Haswell-doesn't wake up

As mentioned in the title, literally, my Macbook Air doesn't wake up occasionally.
Sometimes (3 or 4 times out of 3-50) when i close the lid of my notebook and open, nothing appears but  the black screen appears and only the light of the keyboard glows. No input(including trackpad and the keyboard) helps get out of the black screen and the only thing i should do is to turn the power of and turn it on again.
It seems that some users using Macbook Air Haswell and some Macbook Pro models.  And some explains it happens because of chrome browser. I purchased this notebook about a week ago and I can get a new one by contacting Apple Store. Should I get a new one and see if it happens? or should i just restore my notebook and see if it happens again? It's quite confusing and frustrating.

As Linc says, use the phone support, but you may find that Apple tell you a fix is in the pipeline.
There appears to be a glitch with current MBA's where, if it goes to sleep and you try to wake it immediately, it can freeze (search this forum for MBA won't wake from sleep, MBA crash to black screen and similar for loads of info - for example this massive thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5118135?start=0&tstart=0). Your description of what happens matches this picture exactly. Until Apple come up with a fix, you can either switch off sleep or resist the temptation to wake the MBA too quickly after it goes into sleep mode.
Some of us (including me) found this unsatisfactory - particularly as Apple are taking a lot longer to find a solution than they originally claimed - and got a refund. In my case I put the money towards a retina MBP.
As for the Chrome issue, I do not and have never used Chrome but was plagued by the problem nevertheless.
By all means get a replacement using the 14 day exchange, but you may well find that the new MBA does the same (this is what I did within the first 14 days and the replacement was no different).  If you decide the problem is unacceptable, you could consider a refund - then the choice is yours whether to wait, jump ship to a PC or get a different Mac.

  • I have a hp office jet 6600. It will not wake up to receive e-print.

I just bought a office Jett 6600. It will only recieve E-print when it is awake. The print will not wake up to receive eprint. Not much good if i am traveling. <script id="JSScriptForDynamicControls" type="text/javascript" src="https://www.billeo.com/page/js/amex/insitedominspector.js"></script>

I would make sure printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet. I would also make sure that printer had latest firmware update.

  • After 10.9.3 update monitor doesn't wake up from sleep

I have an LCD connected to the Mac Mini via a mini-DP to DVI adapter and a video projector is connected directly at the HDMI.
The LCD is the "main" screen while the projector is only switched on for watching TV or movies.
My "Computer sleep" is set to "never" and "display sleep" to 15min.
All was working well until I updated to 10.9.3 ...
Now, when the LCD goes to sleep (projector is powered off) it doesn't wake up any more.
The computer is running and it is responding to my key-presses etc. but the monitor remains in a coma.
Powering the monitor off and on again resolves the issue, e.g. the display shows correctly.
This is however only a temporary fix as it refuses to wake up  upon the next sleep...
The monitor itself is fine, it works on other systems flawlessly, e.g. on an older Mini.
    Any ideas?
I have already force-fed it with the combo-udate but that didn't help.

My iphone 3GS does the same thing, not only does it suddenly fail to wake up from sleep. It just crashes and I have to do a hard reset. Today it just turned off when the ipod was playing I was a mile away from it and it was in airplane mode as well. I have restored from backup once and would dearly love to have it downgraded but that doesn't seem to be much of an option. My phone ran like a dream before the upgrade....now I hate to say it but its completely unreliable.
With so many people experiencing the same problem it makes me wonder why there isn't a fix.

  • MacBook Doesn't Wake Up (when External FireWire Drives attached)

Anybody else notice their MacBook not waking up from sleep when Fire Wire drives are attached, specifically through the FW port or the Express Card port.
Granted, the MacBook wakes up 50% of the time in general with nothing attached...kind of a crap shoot.

Hi, I have a macbook air for some time now. It works fine, starts reasonable fast and with one exception I'm pleased with it.If I closed the LID or press the on-off button the system sleeps. When I open the lid the next day (8 -12 hrs later) the system doesn't wake up. The log file which I presume is send to Apple did lead to a patch. I saw on the support site various conversations in respect to this issue with various results.
I see that the problem of James even returned and was not reported to be resolved until now.
In my log I have the following messages, "Sleep failure" of last few days. What should I do to resolve this, or is Apple delivering a patch for this?

  • My Powerbook 12" doesn't wake when I plug AC power

I always use my powerbook with lid closed when I am at home.
The issue is, as title described, when I plug AC power in,
    my powerbook doesn't wake immediatly!
It used to, but now it's not!
The wakeup options in system preferences are only about wake on a modem ring or signal from ethernet, not about the AC power.
How can I turn this feature on?
    Thanks!
    Powerbook G4 12 1.33G   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The command "pmset" could solve this.
Type "man pmset" in terminal for usage of command pmset.

  • Since Lion, primary monitor doesn't wake from long sleeps

Since installing Lion, my iMac doesn't wake properly from sleep when it's been off for a while.
I have two monitors and the second one wakes fine, but the main one - the iMac itself - doesn't return unless I reboot.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Try turning off hibernation mode - run the following in terminal:
    pmset -a hibernatemode 0
You'll likely need to do that from an admin account using sudo.  The reason why this happens, I think, is that you close the lid and sleep the machine while the system is in the middle of doing something (updating the hibernate sleepimage, locking the screen, etc...).  then when you open the lid, the system is still going through the close-down process and the monitor wake call gets lost in the shuffle.  turn off hibernate mode to speed things up, only turn it back on when you need it (like when you're in a situation where you'll need to switch batteries without a power cord).

  • My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and share a HD. when I unplug the ethernet it doesn't wake so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 2 mac books, 2 iPads and 2 time capsules !) How can I fix that?

    Hy ,
My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and I share one of my Hard Drive.
When I unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't wake any more so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 1 printer canon MP620, 2 mac books, 2 iPads, 2 IPhones and 2 time capsules !) ...even when all these devices are "sleeping"
    Any idea?

Sorry - posted this in the wrong forum. Reposted in Mac Pro.

  • Macbook air doesn't wake up after improper shutdown

    Hi guys,
I've had this issue for couple times in the past 8 months.
I've consulted Apple support but doesn't seem helpful at all.
They took my MacBook Air for invenstigation for over a week and returned and concluded no issue found.
Hence I had to consult genius on the forum.
I seldomly had this issue, my MacBook Air 2012 just shuts while it's in use, or while it's asleep, and I couldn't wake it up.
It looked like dead and nothing turned it back on, keyboard nor pwoer button.
I could only to wait for another 10 or 15 minutes, and then press the power button again.
Usuallys it comes back from a restart and return to the login menu.
After I log in, it shows there was an inproper shutdown.
This kinda annoys me as I don't know if there's going to be any potential issue after my warranty expires. (still 4 months left)
After suggestion would be much appreciated.

    Hi all,
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late reply as I was away from Internet access for the past week.
I couldn't reproduce this at will. It happened again this morning.
I was pretty sure I had the power connected, lid closed and connected to my HDMI monitor and USB mouse and keyboard. I left the MacBook Air on when I went to bed, and I had power went sleep after an hour in the energy setting.
When I resumed my computer by pressing keys couple of times (strange, it doesn't wake my computer up with one press) on my USB keyboard, my computer went straight into the login screen. I knew it was shutting down again.
I just did reset SMC but I don't think it helps. I'll monitor it for another week.
I did have the crash log and will send to Apple Support for further investigation.
I'll post it here just in case anyone is interested.

  • Data domain with auto-idle mode doesn't wake up

    Hello,
I have a strange problem with my data domains. I have enabled auto-idle mode with a sleep time of 1 minute. After 1 minute my data domain goes to sleep but the strange thing is that it doesn't wake up when I run a graph. The data domain does start when I query the data domain in Studio.
Is there something that I have to configure in Integrator ETL?
    Thanks!
    Marco Snels

    Hi Marco,
Please see "How idling affects data domain behavior".
Specifically, the info I quote below:
The following statements describe which operations activate (or do not activate) an idle data domain:
Queries from the Conversation Web Service, Configuration Web Service, and Data Ingest Web Service activate an idle data domain and restart the timeout timer.
Queries from Administration and Configuration URL commands also activate and restart the Dgraph processes for the idle data domain (and restart the timer), with the exception ofhttp://<host>:<port>/endeca-server/admin/<data_domain>?op=ping, which does not activate an idle data domain.
Bulk load interaction. The process of loading data through the Bulk Ingest interface starts with theallocateBulkLoadPortoperation from the Manage Web Service, which activates an idle data domain. If a bulk ingest operation is issued and is in progress for the data domain that is set to auto-idle, it is possible that bulk load may take longer than the idling timeout. If the timeout expires while bulk data load is in progress, the Endeca Server refreshes the idling timeout and the data domain does not shut down, so that bulk load can complete successfully.
Theendeca-cmdcommands do not activate an idle data domain with the exception ofendeca-cmd allocate-bulk-load-port, which activates an idle data domain.
When you run a graph, does it issue a Data Ingest Request? If yes, it should get activated.
antoher option is to play with resetting an idle timeout to 10 minutes or more -- if any of the queries (ingest or regular search queries), are longer-running, having an idle timeout that is 10 minutes stabilizes the idling behavior.

  • NEW iBook and doesn´t wake up after sleep mode!

    Hi,
I´ve just started to use my new iBook G4 3 days ago, added my user information, and for a little while the wireless internet connection. Then, I closed the display to put it on sleep mode.....and.............it DOESN´T WAKE UP!!!
The hard disk seems to start up correctly (the fan is on and the disk noise is ok), the Caps Lock on the keyboard is on too, but as soon as I reboot the computer, a strange beep (like a phone tone!) starts up, then the sleep light signal flashes but the screen stays black.
I think that by now I´ve tried the most solutions (as far as I can having the black screen) I´ve read on the troubleshooting page and the recommendations posted in this Discussion chat... The iBook remains partially dead.
    Help!!!

ummm, even when its not plugged in to the power adapter? i find that when my ibook annoyingly doesnt wake from sleep, its usually because i connected/disconnected something while it was sleeping. even plugging in the power adapter seems to affect it. the way i fix it is to put it to sleep again, and then open the lid. its worked every time so far.
oh, and apprantly 'manually' putting the ibook to sleep does the trick (ie from the apple menu)

  • My iMac doesn't wake up when I hit the wireless keyboard

I leave my imac on all the time, I have a wireless bluetooth keyboard and sometimes when I hit the keyboard my imac doesn't wake up. Is this an issue that anyone else has delt with? Is it a keyboard issue or a computer issue?

    Weak battery?
Apple keyboard or third party? All firmware up to date?
