My Powermac G4 AGP won't connect to a network through an airport card.

I have a powermac G4 AGP that won't connect to any networks via airport wireless card.  An error message pops up on the screen after trying to connect.  Displayed is "There was an error when trying to connect to the preferred network." Can anyone help me with this?

Hi Scott,
What Encryption do those Networks use... Open, WEP, WPA, WPA2?
The Original 802.11b Airport card cannot do WPA2, most will do WPA with a Firmware update, it should do WEP or Open networks.
Do any of those Routers support 802.11b/g, or just 802.11n?

  • Remote Desktop Connection won't connect to ip address through my airport extreme?

I can't seem to get my RDC to connect through my airport extreme. I know it must be a setting on my airport extreme, but can't figure it out.
When I hardwire the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer it connects fine, and when I set up a hot spot through my iphone, it also works fine every time as well.
I've made sure to add "Windows Remote Desktop" through the port setting in Network settings on the Airport. Can someone please help me??
    Many thanks in advance...

Hello Jedid4n. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Do you have the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) configured as the remote base station in a WDS with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) configured as the main base station? In order for the AX's Ethernet port to be enabled, the AX would have to be set up as either a remote or relay in a WDS.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Cannot connect to the internet through my Airport Card, while in Windows 7

Alright, so I wasn't sure how best to give a topic heading for this, but i think thats the jist of it. Basically I have Windows 7 on  hard drive and am able to boot up my Macbook Pro (Early January 2011). Everything seems to run the right way, however I am unable to figure out what is causing the Windows 7 to either not recognize or not connect to my wireless network in my house. It is passworded and everything, however nothing I tried would work and allow access to the internet to my Windows 7.
I've read over some things online, and tried to figure out if there was some driver or something that I was missing that needed to be there, however I couldn't seem to find any answer to the problem. When I go to configure the network connecting and such, I get a message saying that apparently the hardware or something is missing, however I am unsure how or where I can go to get the info or not.
I'm guessing that using Bootcamp to install Windows 7 is probably the actual way I'm meant to do this, however I'm trying not to have to partition the computer, though I fear I may have to. Basically what I've done is booted up my computer from the Windows 7 install disc, and used it, like you would a Mac OS disc, to reformat my internal hard drive into working with Windows 7. This is probably an unorthodox method, but my dad had looked up that I couldn't install Windows 7 onto my external disk, and that this would be the alternative to have a more 'native' Windows running, rather than having to use Bootcamp.
My questions to you guys out there, are:
Should I reformat/reinstall Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, and simply use bootcamp and its utilities and such to run Windows 7 through my computer? OR is there something I'm missing that I needed to download to allow Windows 7 to recognize my Airport Card, or whatever is needed to access the Internet.

  • Hp C4580 printer won't connect to wireless network, but see network is available.

I've sat through quite a few of the threads here with regard to photsmart C4580 printer not connecting to wireless network.
My issues started with a cartridge issue, which I resolved with a new cartridge, but only after trying out different solution offered on HP forum.
Now printer won't connect to my network which it has been connected to for over 2 years with no issues. The wireless network is working perfectly fine and I even printed out a HP photosmart C4500 series connectivity status and in this report printer can see the network I need to connect to.
I've tried downloading various programs from Scan doctor to complete install of all HP programs and even tried installing printer from Windows 7 "add a printer", but none can see this printer.
lastly I was hoping trying to locate IP address for printer which looks like it may help, but report says IP Address "not applicable".
I believe printer, wireless network and PC are working correctly, this there a way to switch printer to online so it can be seen.
    Help would be great.

  • My iMac won't connect to my network

My iMac won't connect to the internet anymore. I can only get internet connection through someone elses network.
It connected okay to my network when I first plugged it in. Everything was coming up roses and such. I'm thinking though it might have something to do with my pc. I gave my mom my pc and cleaned off everything. After re-installing the drivers, programs, and re-installing the wireless info on the pc, my mac won't connect to the network
There is a password for connecting to the network a wep 128. But my mac keeps telling me the password is wrong. And the only way to connect to the interent for me is via the Dlink connection.
We have a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G)
My mom has windows XP with wireless capability
My mac has the airport extreme already in the computer
I'm sure the problem is something really simple and minor and that I will kick myself for not figuring it out. :S
But any help would be great
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The only other connection I get is through a unsecured dlink.
I tried using network assistant to get on the linksys network but when I put in the password for it I keep getting a message that says invalid.

  • Iphone won't connect to wifi network

iPhone won't connect to a wifi network - just get a message saying it won't connect to the network (it doesn't give me a message that I've got the password wrong). Other devices do join the network OK
What should I do to try t resolve it?

    Hi,
I bought my iPhone 4s yesterday and I'm having the same problem, my laptop, my old HTC Legend and my work macbook all connect to my wifi no problems.  My iPhone won't.
I've read through everything I can find on here, and on Sky help and have tried:
    Resetting router
    Resetting network settings on iphone
Using MAC address access control on the router
    Changing channels on the router
    Switching everything off and on
Someone suggested doing 'forget network' on the iphone, but I can't find this option
Turning off 3G and mobile data and trying to connect
Checking password is correct (it is)
Kind of at a loss now as to what I can do, I've emailed Sky and waiting for their advice, but should I take it back to the shop to exchange it?  Everything else I have connects just fine, no problem.
It just says "unable to join network"
    Anyone help?
    Thanks

  • My mac book won't connect to any networks.

My mac book 7,1 won't connect to any networks (wireless connection) . It says "ALERT NO INTERNET CONNECTION" . The configuration IPv4 is on: Using DHCP. So, I don't understand why it's telling me this, and how i can fix it.

What do the Apple OS X network diagnostics report:
     > System Preferences > Network > Assist Me... > Diagnostics ...
    about your network connection?
Do the networking problems here also effect connections via a wired network?
Have you tried a different wireless network?   Does connecting at a library, café or Apple store work?
I'm going to assume that you're not running OS X Server 10.6 on this MacBook — that would be unusual — and that you're probably running the client version of OS X 10.6, and are here in this forum because you saw the 10.6 in the forum title.  If I'm wrong here, there can potentially be other triggers for the network outage.  OS X Server management is rather different from whe OS X that Apple installs on a MacBook.

  • IMac G3 won't connect to wireless network

We recently bought an Airport wireless card and adaptor, we fitted it into the G3 today and it won't connect to the network. After we type in the password this message appears " There was an error joining the AirPort network", when we go into system profile under "Wireless Card Locale". It says USA, we live in the UK could this be a problem? We bought the card via eBay from china.
And if it helps the G3 is running OS X 10.3.2, we have an Airport Express base station and our other macs connect to it ok.

Yes, it very well could. Different regions/countries have different rules regarding which radio frequencies are available for unlicensed use, such as wireless products. If you have a card for the US, and you're in the UK, they very well could be trying to use different frequency ranges and thus unable to connect.
Of course another, simpler, possibility is that you selected the wrong kind of wireless encryption. You should be using at least WPA, WEP is about the same as no encryption at all. I don't recall if 10.3 was ever updated to support WPA2 or not. If it does, once you get things all sorted out, if your router also supports WPA2, that'd be your best bet.
For the future, you might want to avoid buying things off ebay like that. I know that it's not exactly like you can just pop round to the nearest electronics store and pick up one of these things, but you're going to have to accept the possibility that you were sold the wrong part and that money is now gone. You're probably lucky the part wasn't some cheap counterfeit knockoff that caused some kind of internal damage when connected. There's a lot of enterprising ebay sellers in China who like to go dumpster diving at big manufacturing plants. Finding parts that were discarded for failing QA testing, and selling them on ebay to people who only care about finding the lowest possible price.

  • How on earth could I be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when it is not connected to anything?

I'm not entirely displeased with the situation but I cannot see how I could be connecting to the Internet through my airport express when the Airport is not connected to anything.
    Weird huh?
I have a separate non- Airport wireless network connected to the Internet.  I had previously set-up the Airport to link with this network but disconnected it (by resetting it) as music streaming was unlistenable due to frequent drop out.  I now just have the Airport Express as a standalone wireless network only connecting to the stereo to stream music from devices.
My devices are only connected to the Airport network with cellular data off. Yet I can still connect to the Internet AND listen to streaming music (without drop-out no less).
I don't want to fix it but I would like to know how the frag it could happen so i don't screw it up accidentally.

I would say you still have something of the previous setup.
To be sure you don't mess up, save the configuration.. go to the top menu area of the airport utility and export configuration.. which will land on your computer.
Now you can recover at anytime to the current setup.
How it works.. that is magical ..
Open the airport utility.. edit.. and take a screenshot and post it of the following pages..
    Internet wireless network
THen we can tell you how it is working.

  • How can I know which clients are connected to my network through express and which are connected through extreme?

I have an airport express extending, through wireless, a network provided by an airport extreme. How can I know which clients are connected to my network through express and which are connected through extreme?
Here you can see both routers:
I would expect to some clients connected to the express, other than the extreme. And that's all I see: only the airport extreme appears as client of the airport express.
Below, one can see the summary of the config for both routers.
    Would somebody explain it?
    Thanks,

  • G4 (MDD) with AirPort Can't See/Won't Connect to Wireless Networks

Hi all. I've seen topics/threads that get close to my question/problem, but not quite.
    I inherited a PowerMac G4 (MDD)/Dual 1 GHz/1.5 GB DDR SDRAM/running 10.3.9.
I purchased a used original AirPort card from eBay, opened up the machine, and plugged it in. When I went to update the software (from a CD), my machine told me that it was up to date (though one HD is running OS9 and one running OSX -- so the software wouldn't install because the HD running OSX said it was up-to-date and the HD running 9 said it was impossible). The machine recognizes the card/shows it gray in the toolbar/says it has Firmware Version 8.70 in the System Profile.
My problem is that the AirPort can't see any wireless networks 99% of the time, even though 3 (including mine) are in range all the time. I've seen my network only flicker into possibility a few times, and even though I've disabled all security measures on the wireless router (Linksys Wireless-G, Model WRT54G), it simply won't connect. One time in 3 hours it momentarily looked like it was going to connect, then said "out of range," then disappeared completely. It has seen 0 wireless networks for the past hour.
I've read everything far and wide trying to solve this issue and am totally stuck. At first I thought I needed an antenna for the AirPort, but this is an internal card, so that doesn't seem right. I know the AirPort card (and not Extreme) is right because a) I don't have a FW800 port and b) the machine recognizes this card. Finally, I thought it may have had to do with the WPA security on the Linksys, but even with security disabled...nothing.
I'm feeling very frustrated. Any advice?
    Thank you very much.

Thanks, Tom. I did as you suggested, and the Max Signal under the Log is showing a red 12, which is terrible, yes? What, exactly, does this tell me? That this is simply a case of old technology (AirPort b) struggling to communicate with new technology (Linksys g) over a medium distance (Linksys is in next room, through wall)? If plugging straight into the ethernet were an option, I'd just do it. But I can't get my G4 onto the Internet without running cords down the hallway and through my TV room, which is an obvious eyesore.
Is there a chance this AirPort card is only partly functional and I should return it? Or do I need to accept the fact that this G4 needs to either be moved closer to the Linksys router or be plugged in directly?
    Thank you.

  • Safari Won't Connect To Specific Network. Firefox Will!

I have a specific issue with Safari (and Mail.app) on a specific network I try to connect to.
The network is one offered on a train service, and pre-Lion I've been able to connect to it just fine.
All of a sudden my MBP and MBA are able to connect to the network - but if I try and start Safari it just bounces away in the dock.
On the rare occasion that Safari starts it won't connect to any webpages. Mail.app also refuses to work in the same way.
If I use Firefox - I can use the internet as normal (although I still have issues with Mail.app).
The bigger issue occurs when I am off the train and trying to use my laptop on other networks - Safari and Mail continue to refuse to work, even though the laptop tells me I'm connected. I have to restart the entire machine.
I've deleted networks from the SysPrefs, reordered them, tried a Google DNS etc etc. I've Googled the issue like crazy, and even contacted the train operator! - and so far come up with nothing.
Any help would be much apprecieted.

Do you have anti virus software installed or any apps like Little Snitch?
Try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac, try Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
