My PowerPC mini just went NUTS

It started when I tried to play something on iTunes, (nothing foreign, iTunes downlaoded content), then iTunes like reset itself and said it had created a "damaged" database. Luckily, all my stuff was on a external hard drive, so I didn't lose it. Then my internet stopped working...and I had to go into Network settings and set it all back up. Then (this is extremely weird) I have two icons on the desktop (one a .pdf and one an .imovie file) that have no icon, but the words, and when you click on them they dissappear. Last but not least, Microsoft Office stopped working and said "MS Word cannot load the shared libraries."
I'm scared to do anything. HELP!

MAC MINI just went Mute today.

MAC MINI just went to mute, have been connected to a TV for 2 years via HDMI with no issues. I can switch to internal/Headphones with no issue. Thank you for the help. Yes the HDMI is there but no control. I swapped the cable around and checked the tv. Funny thing We used external speakers this morning for a movie and afterwards i unplugged them from the headphone jack and the sound came thru the tv again but the sound icon is still gray but I can control the output to the tv? Not sure what that means but it is working now. Maybe the headphone jack was stuck.

Another mini just went dead

I have been reading a few threads about iPod mini's that went dead. That's because I have the same problem with mine and clearly it doesn't seem to be that exceptional. I have my mini about 14 months now which means it's out of warranty. I'm not using it very frequently, only when I'm travelling and once in a while in the gym. Last time I've used it was about 3 weeks ago and everything was normal. I wanted to charge it again for my next trip to the US this week but it just isn't working anymore, apparently it just went dead. My local Apple store said they can't do anything about it and since it's out of warranty, they cannot replace it, which I can understand. They offered me a new mini for a lower price, but I think it's still too much for a replacement only 2 months after warranty. I also don't understand why they didn't tell me about the battery replacement plan, about which I just read on the site. I requested to buy a new nano for a lower price in exchange of the mini, but they refused.
Anyway, it seems there's nothing I can do except complaining here and share this with the rest of you. Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I lost my mini just a few days before my trip, not to mention the money spent on an item that went useless too quickly. But also, this was my very first Apple product, which I liked so much and made me excited about the rest of Apple's stuff. I was planning to buy an iBook, I was looking forward to the next generation iPod (maybe after nano?).
The thing is, I didn't damage it at all, it actually still looks new, and nothing happened with it. It feels very unfair because I cannot put the blame on anyone. However, if this is how Apple products work, I don't think I'll spend another penny on them.

JL4, thanks for mentioning the possibility of resetting my iPod. That's what I did and my mini is working again! I know it makes me look like a complete moron after complaining about it, but just consider: I went to the biggest Apple Centre around and they said it was dead themselves!
And Carl Worlf: I was not in a real huff. I was only very disappointed because it's so unfair that it just stopped working, seemingly without any reason. I always treat my stuff with good care. My mini was perfectly working at one time, the next it didn't respond to anything anymore. Well except then the famous reset method.
Finally, I think it's fair to blame Apple support for a) not mentioning (their own!) battery replacement program (I knew because I found it on the web when returning from the Apple Centre), and b) they apparantly don't know how to reset an iPod.

If there is nothing showing on the iPad's screen, then assuming that its battery isn't empty then have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear and it will boot up - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I tried to upgrade the new version for i pad mini but when downloading it just went off and told me to connect it to i tunes, so i did and now it says i need to restore it. Does that mean I will lose everything in my i pad?

In other words, the upgrade process did not go altogether well and the device has lost all its contents. When you plug it in, they will be restored from the backup.

Hi this morning I tried to send an email with 4 Jpegs photos about 32 meg in size. Hit the send button and it would not send just went round and round for 30 min. Turned off the computer and restartednow I can't access mail on the computer and when in mail mode the quit mail button is greyed out so I can't quit and restart the mail program. My icon shows no mail on the dock yet I know I have 80 plus emails to wade through. Using 2008 MacBook Pro with version 10.6.8. Any help would be appreciated? Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Mac Mini just boots to grey screen - help!

My trusted mac mini a1176 (intel 1.66GHz) has always worked fine but now it just has a grey screen when it starts. There is no chime, and if I leave it long enough a picture of a file with a ? in it appears.
The events leading up to this could have an effect, I am not sure. The original hard drive had a mac and a PC division. I took this drive out 6 months ago and fitted a larger one. This larger one had a carbon copy of the mac part of the original drive made on it. I did not put the PC division on it. All worked fine since. Today I wanted to boot up the PC partition on the original drive so I put the old drive in a USB enclosure, plugged it in and then in settings chose to boot from the PC part of this drive. This is the last thing useful the mini did. It just went to grey screen on restart. So then unplugged the external drive, still no boot. Since then I have tried.
Pressing differen buttons on restart
Putting leopard instal disk in drive ( this is he os I am using)
Disassemble mini and put he original disk back in
SMC reset
Take out extra ram
Disconnected every other peripheral.
I use a apple wired keyboard
A dell mouse (I have a Bluetooth apple one)
Any suggested next steps would be warmly appreciated? Would the logic board just go like that? It seams a bit of a coincidence!

MacBook just went dead! Please help.

OK I've been using Macs since 1986 and have done techie stuff for many Mac users but this issue has me stumped. I have a MacBook black, 2.0GHz C2D, 120GB drive, 1GB ram, 10.4.11. I bought it new from Amazon this past April. This Mac has been running flawlessly since its purchase accept for a few random not waking from sleep issues. Closing the lid and opening it after a few seconds would wake it up. It has a 10GB Boot Camp partition running XP which I seldom use. I just recently updated to 10.4.11.
The Problem: While in use the machine just went dead, sort of. The screen went black and no sound is heard. I tried to wake it using a number of keyboard moves. When all failed I tried to hold the power key down to shut it off and restart, but nothing happened. The only sign of life is when I mess with the power button there is a flashing green light coming from the small pin hole just to the right of the video camera. There are actually 2 of the pin holes to the left and right of the camera but the flashing only comes from the right one. This happens while plugged in or running from the battery. We usually run it with the power cord plugged in and this was the case when it went dead on us. I know it's not completely dead because of this light activity. There is also some random light activity coming from the small row of lights on the face of the battery. I haven't really noticed what triggers those lights I just noticed they came on randomly when I would look at the bottom of the machine now and then.
Any ideas on what's going on and how to get me running again?

the same thing happened to me and after the multiple tech steps to revive a dead beast....i went to the genius bar at my nearest apple store....the tech agreed it was a faulty motherboard as i was getting NO power to even the keyboard. we also tried a firewire target disk mode to see if i can even access the HD. we took out the HD to verify that the data was still in fact intact. but oddly enough nothing happened. to give some insight i was importing video from my mini DV cam and it didi a semi kernel panic greey screen shut down and never came back up
the funny thing was, i ended up helping other people who were coming in for service while they were working on mine...6 people in all...and when i left, some of the people still waiting were saying where's the genius going? LOL!
i pray they will upgrade my logicboard to the SR chipset one.....i want i want i want an early xmas present!

when i plug my ipod into my pc at home its fine, but when i plug into someones pc my ipod suddenly went dead, i duno what happen, my ipod just went "blank"
ive tried to plug into the usb or even using the adaptor, it wont turn on, it just came the apple logo but "on-off-on-off-on-off", when i holding the ipod its like someting keep spinning inside, but i duno whats that
I tried to reset just like people here said, "press middle button + menu", once again.. nothing happened
oh one more, i hit lightly too (someones advice), mm nothing happened.
now im soo desperate, what should i do except take away my ipod to the store? because in here there is no original apple store.

nah, i tried couple times to hit a lil harder on the floor and press reset but it still didnt work.
this happened yesterday when i tried to plug into different usb in my pc, my ipod looked like this:

when i tried to plug to its adaptor it still came out like that, just still like that, nothing happened, but when i plugged into another electricity somewhere in my house, suddenly it came the apple logo, but this time is little weird, it turns on-off (very fast) when i look to the screen closer, i see a vertical line like broken lcd, whaatt again? its getting worse and worse
yea, it still have warranty.
but i duno where to take and service my ipod in here?
because i bought this when i went to australia long ago.
