My Presario SR1222NX locks up

My Presario desktop locks up about twice a week. The screen freezes, and I get faint beige vertical stripes on it. In other cases, when I power my screen on I get a message that reads "self test, check your PC and signal cable, monitor is working.
In both cases the only solution is to power down my PC and restart, which is frustrating. How do I avoid this problem? I have a Presario SR1222NX desktop and a Compaq FS7555 monitor.

  • Presario CQ5320F mouse locks up on rear USB ports

    I have a Presario CQ5320F desktop running Windows 7 64-bit.
The original mouse started double clicking when I just clicked once so I replaced it.
The new mouse works fine in the front USB ports but on the rear USB ports it works for a few seconds/minutes and then locks up.  I can plug it back in the front port to get it working again.
I've tried updating the driver but I already have the latest.
Anything else to try?  I don't like the mouse cable sticking out of the front of the machine.

Actually a USB mouse with a USB dongle is much nicer. I have a Microsoft Mobile mouse 6000 that works well for me on my laptops.
Have you installed the Microsft Host controller update for your notebook yet?

    Hi @sng4ever2000 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook and issues starting Windows 7. Try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.

    Hey,
Today when i powered my Compaq Presario CQ57 up the CAPS LOCK key could not be turned off.  The CAPS LOCK indicator light remains on.  The computer boots and performs normally with the exception of this one big issue.
Any advice or assIstance would be much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

  • Compaq Presario F767NR caps lock, scroll, touch pad blue light not working

    Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario F767NR. It downgrade it to xp. All my drivers are ok. But caps lock, scroll, touch pad blue light not working though its function is ok.
I think led is ok. I find that for the scroll lock when i press fn+num lk then the blue light works fine.

I have the same problem and I think it started when I downloaded the SP2 for the Windows Vista. So probably it is not a problem of the laptop. I have an HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook PC.

  • Compaq Presario SR5249 SD Card reader locked problem

When inserting  an SD card it all works fine except that it says the card is locked. It is not locked  and even trying to change it in properties it stays locked.
However the card reads corrcetly and is unlocked in an HP printer.
It did work originally in the Compaq but seems to have had a setting changed spomehow.
Has anyone else experienced this problem please?
    This question was solved.

    Hello again @OLDBRP,
If you have tried another SD card in your computer and it still does not work then I think the only way of being sure if this is a hardware issue and not costing you any money would be to backup your personal information and recover your computer back to factory settings. This would rule out software as being an issue as your computer's software is back to how it came out of the factory.
To back up your personal information I recommend you review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows Vista), which will walk you through properly backing up your personal information so you do not loose it.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Once you have successfully backed up your personal information you can follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows Vista), which will walk you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.
If once you have successfully recovered your computer the Card Reader still does not work then it appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Compaq Presario CQ56, Caps Lock Blinks

    I have a Compaq Presairo CQ56-115DX.
I turned it on one day and the caps lock key's led blinks, at 3 second intervals. (Never stops, waited 4 or 5 hours)
I have looked at the page on HP support, I have tried hard reset, reseatingk, and replacing the CPU.
    Still an issue.
When I hard reset, I've tried with and without wifi, hdd and ram installed.

Here is a document on the Blinking lights -
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    they contain a code:
The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up.
If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition.
Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help.
Caps Lock/Num Lock LED Component Tested Error Condition
    LEDs blink 1 time
    CPU
    CPU not functional
    LEDs blink 2 times
    BIOS
    BIOS corruption failure
    LEDs blink 3 times
    Memory
    Module error not functional
    LEDs blink 4 times

  • Compaq Presario CQ61, unable to boot laptop

Compaq Presario CQ61 running Windows 7 Home Premium (build 7601) purchased approx 4 years ago.
Computer failed to re-start after a period on standby.  I suspect that it may have failed an automatic reboot following the automatic installation of an update - this is only a guess as I have no access to the computer at the moment, but I had a similar problem recently - on that occasion I managed a 'Safe Mode' start - pressing F8 a number of times gave me access to the appropriate screen.  I subsequently implemented System Restore at a point just prior to a the automatic installation of a Windows critical update, and that seemed to do the trick.
On this occasion the F8 route fails to have any effect on the problem; the 'caps lock' and 'num lock' LED's just blink continuously (i.e. not a limited number of times), the fan starts, but there is no other sign of life.  I have tried a hard re-start, but to no effect.  I have also removed and replaced the memory, but again to no effect.
    Can you advise please.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I'm afraid there is no sign of life in your computer either:
    What excactly happened?
If you tried to reseat the memory, your motherboard might be dead.
Your motherboard is actually very old too, very less motherboards could last 4 years.
Hopefully the motherboard is fine cause you have lights flashing, which thats one thing of what the mother needs to do, check every component and start up the computer. If the lights are just on, then your motherboard is not working, as it is not doing its job.
But, the good news is, the costy part is ok.
I really need to now what actually happened, please be as detailed as you could to help you troubleshoot the problem.
Perhaps, what helps is, taking a video of the start up of the computer of blinking lights.
Sorry because of different timezone I might not be able to help/reply you right away.IF that happens I deeply apologize!

  • Flashing LEDs No Boot Presario CQ40

I have a Compaq Presario CQ40-107AU that will not boot. After pressing the power button, the fan starts running and nothing happens for several seconds. After approximately 20 seconds the LEDs above Scroll Lock and next to Caps Lock blink continously.
I found explinations of the blink codes somewhere online and found that the code was supposed to mean low power from the power adapter. I purchased a new (non-OEM) adapter and have the same issue. I tried a hard reset (removed the battery, disconnected power adapter and held the power button) doing this did not resolve the issue.
I am going to pop the case open tonight and verify all connections and visually inspect the solder and board where the power adapter mates to the notebook and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me. I am unable to find this paticular model listed in any of the support areas on HP's support site.

Hi, i just experience the same symptom (CQ40).  I tried to solve by myself by following the document, but it doesn't mention about continuous blinking at CapsLock & Num Lock.  I also check my output adapter voltage, no wrong about it (18.5V).  Memory card and hardisk drive also fit properly.  Then, i tried to reset my bios by take out the bios battery, still not help.  The pcb condition include pattern and components by visual check all ok, no sign of burn.  Is there any meaning for continuous blinking at CapsLock & NumLock?  Please help me... Thank you.

  • My Compaq Laptop won't lock

I have a compaq presario cq56 and I've had it for around 7 months, my lock button (on the keyboard) has recently stopped working, when I press nothing happens however it used to make my laptop lock, like its supposed to. Furthermore when I closed my laptop it used to lock automatically so when I opened it I had to put in my password but now when I open it I am able to go straight on to my laptop without needing a passcode, I have no idea why this is happening now it hasn't happened before, how do I fix it?

Go to the start menu and search for Power Options.
    Select the Power Options result.
On this window, select choose what closing the lid does.
The settings screen will show what closing the lid will do with power connected and with power disconnected.
What option does it have? It sounds like it is set as do nothing.
As far as the lock key not working, I will need to know the full model name.
NOTE: Do not provide the serial number.

  • Black screen with caps lock blinking

I was using my laptop and it was turned on and after some other work I wanted to use my laptop, the screen was black and caps lock was blinkingI turned it off manualy and it was again doing this. Caps Lock blinks 2 times after a pause of 4 seconds continously.
I tried reset and other things but its not showing anything.

    Hi Nayj424,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your Compaq Presario CQ62-102TX Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore.

  • Black screen presario CQ57

When I turn my Presario CQ57 laptop on the screen remains black. The power is emitting blue light and the F12 is emitting orange but the caps lock button will flash blue two times, pause, then repeat the cycle. I have tried to hard reset the laptop several times yet I can not figure out the problem. I have searched everywhere on this site but can't seem to find an answer anywhere, please help.

    Hi,
Two time blink on the caps locks issue is related to BIOS corruption. Check the below link for more information

  • Keyboard of Presario CQ56-112SA

I bought my Presario CQ56 Notebook about 6 months ago. Recently I am finding that one or other of the keys will not depress. I rang HP and with their help I removed and re-loaded the keyboard driver. This made no difference. HP then suggested that I buy a compressed air canister and fire it around the keyboard. I did this but am still finding that a key, usually not the same one,  will not, or is difficult to, depress. Can anyone tell me what is going wrong with such a new machine and what I should do about it?

Get it fixed while it's under the initial warrenty.  4 months ago my d key stopped working, can of air did nothing for it.  Now, it goes off at random with no one touching, sometimes locking up my computer and forcing it to shut down.
Fix it early...take advantage of the warrenty if you still have it.
