My previous audiobook purchases won't let me download them, they are making me repurchase.

I don't need to check anything. Apple does not hold the copyrights on the audio books they sell and if the holders of those copyrights say you can't re-download then you can't re-download. Your complaint is not with Apple but with the them.
I agree with you that you should be able to re-download those items and that they are simply protecting profits. But the reality is you can't re-download audio books. If you have not backed them up locally the rights holders don't care. They are happy to take your money again. Which is what they want anyway.

I believe that all audiobooks are supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time only download. I've been making my iTunes music purchases on my iPhone for over a year now. I bought a new one so I relied on iCloud to keep my purchases on record. When downloading my songs, I saw that some of them were missing. When I logged into the iTunes store, it said that the albums (yes entire albums are missing) have been "PURCHASED", therefore I can't buy them again. And they don't have that iCloud icon on them to download them (since I have already purchased them). I checked my iTunes account on both my PC and my iPhone and still nothing. So your'e saying it lets you open the app from the app store? If so, that means it's on your phone somewhere take a better look at your homescreens. It will only let you open an app if it's been previously downloaded to the phone.

I have a 2 gen itouch for my son. I went to update it and now I've not only lost everything that was working fine on it, I'm unable to download anything from the app store.

Sadly the ios on the 2nd generation ipod touch is to old to run todays apps. It's ios stops at 4.2.1 and you need at least 4.3 or higher. My advise any apps that are still on it don't uninstall them cause you will never get them back. I have a ipod 2nd gen I got from a co-worker I have only 4 apps that aren't default apps. I use it mainly for videos from my itunes library and music. To have the apps of today you need on the outside a 3rd gen but perferably 4th or better yet the 5th gen. The 3rd gen might be able to have a few of todays apps but you are safer getting a 4th or 5th.

I can play the music on my itunes under my purchased section but when I go to my phone when I have it connected the a lot of the songs won't play on my song or from the itunes under my phone. They have a little icon to the left of them that looks like a repeat icon. It won't let me delete them from there nor play them. When on my phone only it won't play them it just brings up the clip art but will not play. Please can anyone help me.

All that happens is it just flicks through it all and won't play any of it???
As in I select the song and it just flicks back one screen (if I am making sense).....

If you want to use your current ID you will either have to provide a credit card or redeem an iTunes gift card. Otherwise you can create a new ID without a credit card to purchase free apps by following this exactly as written: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534.

Yes. You can set the payment method to "None" once you log into iTunes on your PC/Mac. I have it set up this way.

You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 41 days" and won't let me download the rest of the shows even though I haven't changed accounts and I'm using the same account I purchased the shows with.

It's been months, so you may not care anymore, but you can't download songs from multiple Apple IDs over a 90 days period. Sorry, it's not allowed for legal reasons.
