My problems with the 3G iPhone (post yours)

Missing features:
Copy & Paste (I read that it's not high up on the priority list for the iPhone developers - huh?)
Ability to take video clips (even my old, free, crappy phone from Verizon does that)
Remote Desktop App. (what good is a VPN without it? I guess for accessing corp. e-mail)
SSH client (no brainer for any admin)
Rotating the screen doesn't work in all applications (it would be nice if you could set the default view for all apps including the home screen)
Flash support in Safari (I hear it's coming but when?)
Turn by turn navigation (I hope we get this soon - it's a waste of a GPS at the moment)
No "Week" view in the calendar (I guess the list view will do but it just seems inconsistent that there is the Day and the Month view but no Week view)
No way to display e-mails on the home screen (in a similar way to the SMS messages)
No way to change the new e-mail ring or configure custom rings for different accounts (My Blackberry 8700 does it)
No IPSEC VPN support for older Cisco platforms (ie PIX501 and PIX506 - Steve J. said they listened to the users on this one - I guess with only one ear though)
Other issues:
Calls get lost. I go to pick up. Looking at the screen the call is connected but there is nothing there - got that 7 or 8 times less than a week. I never get that on the
Blackberry (EDGE on AT&T).
MobileMe - It should allow you to push mail from any account to the iPhone (just like the Blackberry BIS).
There aren't many useful apps in the App. Store - but I guess that's not Apple's fault.
I do love the interface and the phone's got a lot of potential ...if the developers would only truly listen to us!

Make sure that your computer has USB 2.0 ports and that you're not using a hub.
Turn the iPhone completely off, start up iTunes. Plug the USB cable into the 2.0 port on your computer. While holding the Home button down on the iPhone, plug the iPhone into the cable. Keep holding the Home button down until you see the USB symbol. At this point, iTunes should reinstall the software.

  • "There is a problem with the SIM card in your iPhone"

I'm getting this error when I try to activate my new iPhone 4 through iTunes:
"*There is a problem with the SIM card in your iPhone.*
To activate your iPhone with this account, you will need a new, unactivated SIM card. Please use the SIM card that was provided with your new iPhone. If you are using the new SIM card, and are unable to complete activation, you can go to an Apple Retail Store or an AT&T company owned retail store to request an unactivated SIM. If you would prefer to have a replacement SIM card sent to you via overnight mail, please call us at 1-800-MY-APPLE. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."
Now I've already been to AT&T and nothing they could do with the account settings would work, in fact they had never seen the issue before. They gave me a new SIM card and that did nothing as well. Finally they tried out a different SIM tray, and that still didn't work. I have a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. Do you think that the SIM reader inside the iPhone 4 is broken?

I solved a problem I had with activating my iPhone although the error message was different from yours.
I got the message "There is something wrong with your iPhone and it cannot be activated, please bring it to your nearest Apple service".
Via a Chinese forum I found out its the SIM card witch is the problem. If the serial number of the SIM has a "letter" in it it won't work. If only numbers it will work.
I now tried it with 2 SIM cards with letters and got the message over and over again. Than tried with my only numbers SIM card and it activated instantly.

  • There is a problem with the Outlook database.  Your database could not be rebuilt. [-18000]

For home use, I recently changed from Windows PC to MacBook Air.  I have an iPhone 4 which I synched without problem to the PC.  Since I have used Outlook for years on Windows and trusted advisors assured me Microsoft Office on the Mac is the same as Microsoft Office on Windows, I decided to continue using Microsoft Office.  Because I cannot get my Outlook calendar to sync reliably to iCal / iPhone and because I have found a small but meaningful number of features I use daily in Outlook Windows do not work on Outlook Mac, I have never been in so much pain!
The latest problem is Outlook does not complete startup.  I get this error:
There is a problem with the Outlook database.  To use the database, you must rebuild it using the Database Utility.
I run the utility but it never completes successfully.
    Step 1 of 5: Scannning...
    Step 2 of 5: Verifying...
Step 3 of 5: Copying records to new database...
Step 4 of 5: Recovering data...
Your database could not be rebuilt. [-18000]
I have found many articles about this problem but they all seem to assume that you can successfully start Outlook then you rebuild the database to fix data corruption in Outlook.
What if I Outlook never completes startup?

Here are the steps that solved the Outlook data corruption problem.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/your-datab ase-could-not-be-rebuilt/5caff467-3ab2-464a-9fe6-00ad913b5f2e
The question was:  Your database could not be rebuilt
The key is to create a new Outlook Identity, remove the database file, then copy your data records into the new identity and use the Outlook database utility to rebuild the database.
It's a wonderful feeling to see Outlook start up successfully after a few days of downtime!

  • Help ... problem with the sync iPhone with iTunes

I have a upgrade my iPhone 3G from 3.1.2 to iOS 4.1 and itunes to 10 and from that moment when I sync my iphone starts with the backup of the iPhone, then sync contacts, calendar etc. .... when the step 4-5 of 6 tracks from iTunes or sync gives me this error "can not synchronize iphone.impossibile find the required disk" but instead is connected because if I go to iTunes> Devices> iPhone finds me and makes me get into the application settings, music, photos etc. .... thing may be? reading around some say is itunes .... how do I fix this??I apologize if I misspelled but I'm Italian)

Do you mean that you get an error during the backup step during the sync? Temporarily, you can click on the "x" next to the backup message to skip the backup, but you will want to figure out why the backup is failing before you lose valuable data.
The most common cause of a failure during the backup step is a corrupt backup from a previous sync. This can happen if a sync is interrupted, and occasionnally for no apparent reason. If this is the problem the solution is to delete the backup in iTunes Preferences, on the Devices tab. If this does not resolve your problem please let us know what kind of computer and operating system you have.

  • Problem with the original iphone.

i have the original iphone for the past year and half.
i've dropped it many times, but it didn't harm the iphone.
the other day, i dropped it, and it died. it didn't respond to nothing.
until i plugged it to the charger, and to the computer.
than when i pressed the sleep/wake button then it lights up and you can see the apple logo.
but it shuts down again after a minute.
i tried to restart it while it was plugged, so it restarts but goes back to- lighting up and showing the logo.
how can i save my iphone?

Either the battery is not charging properly, or your iPhone is knackered as a result of you dropping it repeatedly. Without seeing it, I would assume it is the latter that has caused the fault. I suggest you take it to an Apple Store or to your network operator and seek some advise as to whether it is repairable or not.

  • Calendar issue with the new iphone 6 plus

I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing a problem with the default iphone calendar for iphone 6 plus?  I have consulted with apple's tech specialist both in store and online and they can't seem to figure out what's wrong.   They have apparently forwarded the issue to the engineers.  As everyone may know, dots appear under the date if you have added an event to the specific calendar date then the elaboration of the specific event appears on the bottom linear view.  What i have been experiencing on my iphone 6 plus is that the dots disappear as i scroll further and further down to future months and when i do scroll back up the dots also randomly disappears with past months/events.  The elaborated event in the linear view is still there, however, when u highlight the date.  Why is that? We've already rebooted my phone, checked all possible settings issue, unsync then resynced it to icloud, resigned to icloud, reset all settings and even changed to a new phone (thinking it was a hardware defect) but the dots were still disappearing even with the new device.  I even turned off icloud on all my devices and just used the usb cord to sync it from imac to iphone! This nightmare is still happening even without icloud! However, it doesn't do that to my iphone 5! All dots with corresponding events appear on all weeks/months on my iphone 5 calendar.
Hopefully, someone is experiencing the same issue with their default calendar on the new iphone 6 plus.    I tried my best to describe the issue, so i hope this made sense.

M glad I'm not the only one experiencing this!  Because when i spoke to apple techs it sounded like mine was an isolated case as they have not heard any complaints about this! I'll post something on this thread once apple techs have figured it out and get back to me! They initially put my icloud account on troubleshooting mode so they can look into it, however, it wasn't an icloud issue....so, they have yet to firgure it out!  I have already sent them screenshots of what my calendar was doing to my phone.

If the login box keeps popping up either your acct is disabled or you are mistyping your pw.
Go here and try out your pw and reset if necessary:

Error 23, 28, 29: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with the white USB Dock Connector cable that shipped with your device, on a known good computer and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value, (00 499901 064000 0), can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software can also cause these errors.

I  have a problem with the synchronisation of my iPhone and iPad with Outlook 2007 on my 64-bit Windows 7  PC. For several years,
I have had no problems with the synchronisation by cord connection and iTunes between these programmes. However, a few months ago I decided to use Mobile Me. However, there were problems with duplication of calendars and then “rogue events” – which could not be deleted – even if deleted on Outlook and on the iPhone (or both at the same time) – they would just reappear after the next synchronisation.  All other synchronisation areas (eg Contacts, Notes etc) work fine.
I have looked for help through the Apple Support Community and tried many things.  I have repaired my Outlook. I have repaired my .pst file in Windows. I have re-installed the latest version of iTunes on my PC. I have re-installed the firmware on my iPhone. I have tried many permutations on my iPhone. I have closed down all Mobile Me functions on the iPhone. I have spent upwards of 24 hours trying to solve this problem.
What am I left with? Outlook works seamlessly on my PC. My iPhone calendar now has no events from  my calendar, but does not synchronise through iTunes. Nor does it send events initiated on the iPhone to the Outlook. I am at the point of abandoning iPhones and iPads altogether.  I need to have a properly synchronising calendar on my phone.  Do you have any suggestions?

In the control panel goto the "Lenovo - Power Manager" and click the battery tab, there is a maintenance button in there that will let you change the charging profile for your battery.   (from memory, so exact wording may be off)
The lower the numbers you use there, the longer the battery *should* last.    These batteries degrade faster at higher charge levels, however storing them at too low of levels is also not good for them... I've read that 40% is optimal, but just not realistic if you use your computer.

I have a problem with the iTunes Store, I have an ipod and an iphone 2. I have a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 2007, entering into iTunes Store on the main screen I get only AppStore, Podcast and iTunes U. In my screen I get only ipad2 Podcast, iTunes U Downloads. My problem is I can not access any application to download music, videos, books, etc..
ITunes will be installed wrong or what should I do to activate these options?

Go to the front page of the Store, and click Change Country.  Make sure it is set to the country where you actually are.
Then you will be able to see everything that is for sale in your country, which, depending where you live, might or might not include music.

  • My iPhone 5 is experiencing problems with the Wifi at home. It shows that it is connected to the wifi but anything that uses wifi doesn't load. The wifi works sometimes however but this is rare. How do I fix this?

My iPhone 5 is experiencing problems with the Wifi at home. It shows that it is connected to the wifi but anything that uses wifi (apps etc) doesn't load content and just looks like it's loading forever but nothing ever comes. However the wifi and wifi/internet dependant apps work sometimes but it's rare. How do I fix this?

    Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
              8.8.8.8
              8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the  Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
    2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

Have you tried signing out of your iTunes & App Store on your device and then back in again - Settings>iTunes & App Store, click on Apple ID, then on Sign Out. Then sign in again and see if it accepts the password.
If that doesn't resolve the issue,  try resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the reset is complete, the Slide to Unlock screen will display. See if the problem is resolved.
    Cheers,
