My Project will not Publish

I was working with Captivate v.1 and upgraded to v. 4.  Now I can publish some projects but others will not.  When I click the Publish button nothing happens.  I do not get an error message.  I have tried changing folders, and names and tried to publish as an .exe file and a .swf file and still nothing.
I am currently working on 3 projects with this problem and a deadline looming.  I REALLY don't want to trash them and start over.
Help!

Hi there
You might try the following:
1. Turn off compression - Sometimes that will help.
2. If that doesn't work, try closing Captivate and performing a search and destroy of the settings file.
?:\Documents and Settings\??\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\captivate_v40.dat
?=Drive letter
??=Your logged in user name
Rename or delete the file and restart Captivate.
3. If all else fails, try creating a new blank project sized identically to the original. Then copy all the slides from the original and paste into the new. Then try to publish.
Cheers... Rick

  • Converted CP3 projects will not publish correctly in CP4

We recently started using CP4 and have no problems with projects created in CP4.  However, we are experiencing problems with CP3 Projects which are converted to CP4.
When we publish to SCORM 1.2, we do not get a zip file though it is selected.  We get only 4 files created - the main htm file, the full screen htm, the swf and the standard.js.  I have checked and rchecked our settings and can find nothing amiss.
I have searched all over and can find nothing referring to this problem.
Has anybody run across this problem?  We would Really appreciate any help with this.
    Thanks,
    Ron

You may want to search the forum for other posts related to the manifest and such SCORM files not being published. I've not seen the published results not be .zipped when they're selected to be, so that's odd, but it may be related to the same manifest/SCORM issue (SCORM settings not correct so .zip file setting ignored?).
First, try unchecking the .zip option, Save As a new file, open the new file, check the .zip option, publish.
Second, you must have scored interactions in the CP lesson for the SCORM items to be published. Check your Advanced Interaction panel. Are there scored interactions listed?
Third, you have all the proper settings in the Publish > Quiz section? SCORM and such choices?
If everything exists as it should, two other options I can think of:
    1. Try to copy all slides out of the lesson and paste them into a new, blank one. That may help reset whatever problems CP is having.
    2. Search these boards, or await someone else, for some preferences or such file that can be deleted. I don't recall specifics but there's some file that holds various CP settings that seems to get corrupted...

  • Missing render file/project will not render

I'm new to using FCE - just got my iMac with FCE pre-installed a few weeks ago - and have run into a big problem with current project. When I open the program, it tells me one render file is offline and I can reconnect or continue. I have no idea where the file could possibly have gone, so I select 'continue'. But now the project will not render. I have four sequences open in the project file, and have tried everything - locking and unlocking tracks, selecting various combinations of render both, render all, render selection, rendering only audio or video, etc. All the appropriate render selections are checked in every option. But still, the project won't render any of the sequences; the render box comes up for a split second and goes away faster than the eye can follow. I've tried setting the scratch disk; that didn't help. I tried saving the project, closing and opening the project, etc. Nothing helps. It just won't render. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem?

When I say it won't render, I literally mean nothing happens when I hit the render command. I see the red timeline render bars. However, I see them only when I go to export the video as something else - a mov, dv stream, etc. In the project while working, there's nothing indicating render is required.
To try and solve this problem of the missing audio clip, I opened a new project and imported the .mov file I was working with initially, which theoretically should have all its parts intact. I made the necessary modifications to the file (essentially starting all over) and then attempted to render. It still won't render. Nothing happens at all when I click any of the render options, even after I've made modifications to the video that would clearly require render - changing the aspect ratio and applying a widescreen video filter. So the program should recognize the changes and render, but nothing happens, whether I choose render from the menu or hit the keyboard shortcut.
I'm a little hesitant to try scrapping the preferences as suggested above, but I am totally perplexed.

  • Any version of Flash (cs3-cs5) will not publish my file..

    Hi all,
this is the first time i encounter this problem.. I had the problem where a file would not open correctly which was also addressed at this forum. But this one is different. this file was created (from what i remember) in Flash 8, then opened/saved in all possible flash versions for updates in time.
While it will open just fine, it will not publish. The publish window with the percentage will open up for a split second, then it will close with no messages whatsoever, no actionscript errors, nothing. F12, the same thing again. No possible settings could solve this. I am willing to send the file for testing of course, have tried to publish using Flash cs4 and Flash cs5. I thought of going back to Flash 8 by opening the file and saving to a previous version but as soon as i open the file in Flash cs3 (while the file has been saved as cs3) it will not open the file with an error message that i cannot remember right now.
So the problem might lie in how Flash cs3 saved the file, but it will open just fine in cs4 and cs5 so the file is not corrupt in any means..
    any ideas?
    George
p.s. I tried deleting EVERYTHING off the stage and the library and yet it wont publish.. tried copying all frames on another empty file, couldnt publish either...

  • Contribute CS3 will not publish Flash Player

A few months ago the company I work for bought Contribute CS3
to edit our website. The homepage of our website contains a Flash
Player file. When I edit and publish this homepage Contribute will
not publish the Flash Player file this section just shows up blank
stating movie not loaded when I bring up our website. The same
thing happens even when I do a 'send for review' before I actually
publish the page. I have administrator rights through Contribute to
edit this website therefore I am confused as to why Contribute will
not publish this Flash Player file. I have also tired to reinsert
the Flash file while editing in Contribute and still the file will
not publish. Would anyone know why this would happen?
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 5 will not publish a new gallery to SmugMug.

Lightroom 5 will not publish a new gallery to SmugMug. It will allow me to add new pictures to an existing gallery, but I get the message "Failed to create an album on SmugMug. Please try again or contact support." I have never previously had a problem like this, Lightroom has always worked seemlessly with SmugMug. The latest version of the SmugMug plug in is installed. Any help would be appreciated as I do have some galleries to put up and this is killing my workflow. Thank you.

You need to check in Finder using get info (command-I). Make sure that the destination that you have set in Lightroom has write permissions for you. Also double check that the destination is really in the right place and not trying to write into a root folder on your main hard drive or some such.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
Has the program ever opened to the Expert workspace or the Quick workspace?
Some of the typical drill questions:
    1. Does the problem exist with and with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled? Do you have any other security programs
    on your computer?
    2. Are you running the program as Administrator in a home computer in contrast to a school or company network?
    3. Are you using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    4. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements?
    5. What video card/graphics card does your computer use and is the driver version up to date according to the
web site of the manufacturer of the card?
How far do you get...Welcome Screen, Video Editor, New Project or elsewhere? Any error messages?
Let us start here and then decide what next.

  • IWeb 09 will not publish

I just upgraded from iWeb 1.1.2 to iWeb 09. I then made a number of changes to my website. I have attempted to publish the site dozens of times since I made the changes. The site will not publish. The publishing process seems to be correct. I get the "site has been published message, but when I visit the site the changes are not there.
Has anyone out there had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jack

Versions of iWeb previous to '08 use a domain.sites file and published to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb.
iWeb '08 converted the file format to domain.sites2 which was not successful for a lot of us. I ended up rebuilding all my sites. This version also dropped the iWeb folder on your iDisk and publishes to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites as does iWeb '09.
Also .Mac was changed to MobileMe for some reason.
You will note these differences in the two URLs.
I have never tried to convert a site made in '06 to '09 without going through '08.
As I pointed out, the conversion is not perfect and you should deleted and redo the sections that don't publish correctly.
If I was in your situation, I would start afresh on a new, blank domain file and copy the content that you want to keep over from the published version of your old site to the new domain file..

  • Captivate 6 project will not preview or publish in Captivate 7

I have a project created in Captivate 6 that will not preview or publish in Captivate 7. I can make edits to it and save in Captivate 7 though. Does anyone know what may be occurring here?

Preview from this slide does nothing, and does not show an error message.
When I try to publish to SWF I get this message:

  • Flash file will not publish SWF

I am a novice when it comes to flash so please bare with me on this one.
I have recently taken over a project started by another person who has been let go due to lack of performance and other issues.
He has created a FLA file and an .exe file. But I am have been asked to place the movie on to the internet.
The FLA file that I have will not let me publish an SWF file to be uploaded to the internet, in fact it will not let me publish anything.
I have changed the publish setting but when I go to publish it the SWF file is not created.
I just want this file in SWF format and for it to autoplay when the website is loaded.
Let me know what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for your Help in advanced
    Travis
    Extra Information:
I have used a exe to swf converter to convert the EXE file that was already made into a SWF file for the internet.
This does make an swf file but the file is not editable and will not autoplay once it is uploaded.

Any suggestions here? I am having the same problem (minus the part about .exe's):
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/465031?tstart=0
Double checked my publish settings, the path is correct. I have tried exporting a movie to my Desktop, does not work. Tried copying content to a new file, same problem. When I publish, the dialog shows up and a SWF even shows up for a second in the Finder, but then disappears.
I really need to work with this file. I have submitted a support ticket to Adobe, and am awaiting their reply (not holding my breath). Please HELP!

  • File will NOT Publish in Captivate 5.5

I have been a long time user of Captivate starting with Captivate 3 and working my way up to using Captivate 5.5 now.  At work, I have been working on a rather large scale project, but today one of my modules (about 279 slides) refuses to publish.  Mind you, I have probably published this thing 2 dozen times over the course of the past two weeks just fine. I do not know what the issue is.  Every time I publish the module it stalls at 70% generating slides and will not move any further.  I literally left it alone for over an hour and it did not budge.  I had two other co workers try on their computers and it did the same thing.  This led me to believe that it was the file (maybe it had somehow corrupted which has happened to me before), so I started chopping it into pieces, copying and pasting it into new modules and trying to publish it that way, but it did the same thing EVERY time.  I can publish any other modules just fine, but not this one and I don't understand why.  Knowing Captivate, unless there is another issue that I just don't know, I think I am literally going to have to recreate these slides from, copying and pasting the individual elements into a new project file with all new slides because something has glitched in the coding behind the scenes.  Please help because I do not want to have to do that for 279 slides!  Thanks!  Specs: Publishing to Zip File Scorm 1.2 Compliant and at Low Quality.

Try going into Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Quality and turn off all compression options, then try publishing again.
If that does not work, you may have something on some slide that is causing the issue. Try hiding groups of 50 slides in the project, one group at a time, publishing after each step, to see if there is one particular group that when hidden allows it to publish.  If you find that group, start hiding groups of slides inside that group until you isolate the problem slide.  Then recreate THAT slide.
If you have hidden ALL slides in the project without being able to publish, then your issue could be corruption in some Advanced Actions in the project.  Copying all slides to a new project shell will strip out all Advanced Actions.  You'll need to recreate them.

  • Audio from Captivate 6 project will not play on iPad

Developing simple iPad test in Captivate 6 but audio will not play on iPad, works fine in browser. Error message from Safari log /ar/St Ad0.mp3 error code = 4 n/w state = 3; another error reads ..assets/js/CPLibrary.js line 15861ar/St Ad0.mp3 gotStuck@0*. Hi,
    Thanks for the post.
Could you please share the following information:
    1. Which server are you using to publish the content on Ipad?
    2. Which IOS Version?
Please share the sample project or the published output with the mp3 file, so that we can investigate further. (Upload the files acrobat.com and send the link to [email protected])

  • Project will not save

I've just started having a problem with Captivate that has
cost me a fair amount of work. It's happened twice now, both times
late in the day after using Captivate all day long, but on numerous
projects. What happens is that suddenly the slide screen goes all
black (although I can see highlights, mouse, etc.). I save the
project and it appears to save just fine, but when I try to close
the program it asks me if I need to save again. Being safe, I click
'yes', and it looks like it saves the project again. However, the
project does not close, and no saved file appears in my folder.
This leaves me essentially trapped, unable to close the
program without losing all my work. Of course, if I click 'no' when
it asks me if I want to save, the program closes. But then I've
lost everything since my last successful save.
(PS- Does Captivate have an autosave feature like most other
programs? I can't find it to set the autosave time.)
    Very frustrating!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    bobby

    Hi Bobby
During the Captivate classes I conduct, I normally advise
participants that if they will be using Captivate intensively
through the day, they should consider closing it down and
restarting it periodically. I advise this because Captivate
maintains an unlimited number of undo levels. I wondered if that
was true one day, so I tested by performing action after action,
then proceeding to use the undo function. I counted to about 288 or
so before accepting that indeed it must be true.
This also seems to reveal something about the application. It
has to be storing that information
somewhere. My educated guess is that it's storing things in
a temporary files location. It might seem logical to surmise that
perhaps this location is becoming too full and not allowing the
save to complete. Note that I'm not claiming this is
the issue here, only speculating about possibilities.
You asked if there was an auto-save feature. Unfortunately,
there is not. There used to be one in Captivate 1. But it never
worked properly. The weird part about it is that during one of the
betas for Captivate 2, it began working. Then it disappeared
altogether and hasn't been seen since.
Hopefully this helped a bit... Rick
