My PS CS5 does not read Raw Files

I have two Macs and on my MacBook Pro it has never read my raw files from my canon camera (.cr2) so I always edited those on the iMac.
Now after an update I can only edit raw images on my iMac (.nef) and I can't edit any raw images on my macbook pro at all.
What do I do?
I looked through some online tutorials and I checked for updates and it says the program is updated.
Any help would be so appreciated.
Nikki

    emac77,
Support for Canon 5D MIII RAW files was announced in ACR 7.1 (Adobe Camera Raw 7.1).
The current stable release is ACR 7.2 while ACR 7.3 is still a Release Candidate (Beta).
Starting ACR 7.2, Adobe stopped supplying a manual download link which was available till 7.1. Adobe Application Manager (AAM) is the only way for you to update to ACR 7.2.
However, here is a direct download link that AAM connects to for the download that you can use to grab the .zip or .dmg (Mac) file. Download and install. See if you're able to open your files then.

The E-M1 was first supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and CC. It is not compatible with CS5 or lower and never will be.
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all the Raw E-M1 files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5

But you can download DNG converter 8.6 or newer and create digital negative (DNG) copies that will be compatible with Photoshop CS5. • Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the  Canon Sureshot S95

Have just bought the new Canon Sureshot S95
after contacting Adobe support I am told Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the
    Canon Sureshot S95.
Come on Adobe.....please provide an update asap.

    (1) Well Boss I did what you said and used Canon DPP to convert to TIFFs. Choices are 8-bit TIFF or 16-bit TIFF - I chose 16-bit because part (90% part) of the reason for wanting to work in RAW is to keep the bit depth of teh original. On my EOS 40D it is supposedly 14 bits, which gives great scope to play with the levels & curves without seeing poster effects. If I choose 16 bit TIFF then each S95 image becomes a 70MB file, parallel to my JPEG and RAW.  Hardly a satisfactory solution.
(I realise, however, that I don't actually know the bit depth of the S95 RAW file - anybody? ).
    (2) SUGGESTION-  even if you are adding S95 support to the next update (which I dearly hope), be kinder to those with new cameras in general and allow LR to import JPEGs if it cannot import the RAWs (overriding if necessary the 'ignore JPEG' preference setting).  I am sure users with that preference would still prefer a JPEG than no picture at all!
Since I discovered this compatibility problem, I switched the camera to record RAW+JPEG*. To my great irritation LR3 ignores the JPEGs even though it cannot load the RAWs.  So if I want to import from one supported camera (EOS40D) and one unsupported camera (S95) I have to keep going into preferences to switch on and off the 'ignore JPEG' function.

  • I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC transfer program. CS5 started up on the new computer OK, but now does not recognize raw files. Should I uninstall and reinstall again?

I transferred CS5 to a new computer using PC mover ultimate. CS5 appeared to start up normally, I had to insert the serial number from my original CD. However, now the program does not recognize CR files and Adobe bridge is not working properly.  I get messages that CS5 needs to be updated, but the updates fail. What should I do? Should I uninstall CS5 on the new computer, uninstall CS5 on the old computer using the original CD, and then reinstall CS5 using the CD on the new computer?

Transferring programs does not work well with Adobe applications.  You should install them.
As far as having the program on different machines goes, you are allowed to have two activated installations so if it is working on the original machine there is no reason to remove it unless you need the space.

  • Photoshop CS4 will not read Raw files from Nikon D60. [was: No automatic updates for my PS CS 4  on windows (for reading .Nef files)?]

    Hi
I have been using PS CS4 for several years.
Yesterday, I went to PS CS4 help and selected "updates", but I get the message "There are not updates available at this time; Please note that some updates for the following products cannot be determined at this time: Adobe Updater".
I need the updates because I just purchased a Nikon D60 and my Photoshop does not read the .NEF files produced by the camera.
    any idea, please?
    thanks

    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
Do you really mean the Nikon D60 which shipped in 2008? Was it purchased secondhand?
The Nikon D60 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.
Photoshop CS4 ships with Camera Raw 5.0 so it can read D60 NEF files out of the box. No updates required.
If you do mean the D60 then something else must be going on. e.g. are you using Nikon software to transfer files from camera to computer?

  • Preview in OSX 10.7.5 does not recognize RAW files from Canon EOS 6D

What must I do so that I can see downloaded RAW photos from my new Canon 6D in "Preview" in my iMac's OSX 10.7.5?  Preview does show photos from my earlier Canons fine.  My older version of Aperture can open the 6D's files, as can, of course, Photoshop.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Preview does not support RAW - only Aperture, a newer iPhoto version, and third party software will handle it. Does your Canon come with the Digital Photo Professional software from Canon? That should be compatible with RAW as well.
Mountain Lion appears to have more compatibilities:

  • Switching to a MAC which does not read media files on Storm

I recently obtained a MacBook Pro and want to use my Blackberry Storm for music and pictures as I have done with my PC.
Unfortunately the Mac does not read my media card.  It does recognize the Storm but will not show any music files or photos.
    What to do?

Did you select tracks that iTunes does not play?
also says it is for iTunes 4.1 rather than v10
Actually it states, " iTunes 4.1 or better".
iTunes 10 is better (more recent) than iTunes 4.1 and it works fine.

  • Lightroom 4 does not import RAW files from D610

I've just purchased Nikon D610, and my Lightroom 4 is not importing RAW files anymore. What is the problem?

The current version of LR 5 is 5.7 so I’d guess LR 6 will be out at some point later this year, in the next few months.  If money’s no object then upgrade to LR 5, now and to LR 6 in a few months.  If you’ll be very upset to learn you’ve paid $80 to upgrade and then need to pay another upgrade fee for LR 6 then maybe wait and do the DNG thing for a few months, and then upgrade from LR4 to LR6.
The other concern is whether your OS is new enough.  I’d suggest you download the latest LR 5.7.1 update and run that in trial mode for a few weeks—you have 30 days, to make sure your computer can handle it, before spending the money and finding out you need a new computer, first.
The other thing to consider is the $10/month Photography Plan subscription which gets you the most up-to-date versions of Lightroom and Photoshop as long as you keep paying.  Since you have your old LR4 serial number, you can decide to cancel the subscription after a year and use the LR4 serial number to buy the LR 6 upgrade, then.  This assumes that LR 6 will be available as a serial-number-licensed product, still.
The latest LR 5.7.1 update is here:

I guess all the updates for PSE 9 from this link:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh>
Alternatively, you could use the update features of the Element itself that will download everything for you automatically and al;so install them for you.

  • Running CS5 on a Macbook Pro. Will not read raw files for a new Canon T5i camera. Can update the current RAW?

Running CS5 on a Madbook Pro. Will not open RAW image files from a new Canon TRi camera. Can I update to latest RAW processor with current CS5, or must I update to CS6 on the MacBook?
    Jack

ACR 7.4 is the one that will read T5i raw files and it is CS6 specific. You can upgrade for $200 Standard or $400 Extended in you need 3D support.
You can also see if converting your T5i files to .dng format will do just as well.

  • LR 5.7 not reading RAW files

I have a Mac OSX 10.10.3 and a new Canon 7D II.  I upgraded to LR 5.7 because I read that my camera was supported by this update.  However, when I try to upload my photos I get a message stating that the software can't read the RAW files.  I tried uploading the DNG converter and the Camera RAW 9.0 but nothing is working.  I've read the LR forums and the FAQ's and can't find an answer.  Has anyone else had this problem?

the canon 7d mark II needs cr 8.7 or better which comes with lr 5.7
check your cr version in lr.
p.s. the latest and last version of lr 5 is 5.7.1.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 not reading Raw files

I have an old version Elemnts 8 running on Mac OS 10.6.8 that I have used mosty for jpg  files in the past. I now have a new Nikon D7000 and am shooting in Raw only PSE 8 will not recognise my raw files, I have been on numerous plugins to try to update PSE and see if I can get the right plugin to interface with the D7000, not much information out there to help me. I just installed  Camera Raw 6.2 as it appeares to be the most untodate that can still be installed in PSE 8 but my Raw files are still a blank icons and PSE will not recognise them. I rang the Adobe Tech people and they would love to help if I put some money into their pocket.. I don't see why I should when it is obviously a fault of their software that it wont read Raw, other wise they wouldn't  have so many update plugins out there to try to fix the problem.    has anybody been able to find a solution to this, and can you help me.

a fault of their software that it wont read Raw, other wise they wouldn't  have so many update plugins out there to try to fix the problem.
Just FYI, every single camera model has a unique raw format, so every time there's a new camera release, adobe must update the raw plug-in with the information necessary for that format, and they need the necesary info from the camera maker to do that. Raw isn't a generic format, unfortunately, and adobe also makes other changes to the raw converter from time to time, so there's a limit to how long you can continue to get new versions with your older software. (In CS, they deliberately cut you off when a new CS version is released, but in PSE it's true compatibility that mostly determines when the upgrades stop. Your version of Bridge was also part of CS4 so it got stopped when CS5 came out.  )
Another option would be to use the software that came with the camera to do your raw conversions, save as Tiff and edit those in PSE.

  • Camera raw does not recognize raw files from new camera

Tried downloading and installing Bridge update, to no effect. Working with Macbook Pro, OS X 10.9.4. Adobe Bridge version 4.0.5.11. Camera is Fujifilm X-E2, and is mentioned in the Camera Raw list as a file type Camera Raw should recognize.

    You're wrong, reno1950.
That camera was first supported by ACR 8.3, which needs at least Photoshop CS6 to run.
Since you say you're on Bridge 4.0.5.11, you must be on Photoshop CS5.
You have two choices:  either upgrade to CS6 for $200, or look for, download, install and run the Adobe DNG Converter version 8.6 on the folder(s) containing the raw files from your Fuji camera to raw DNGs that you can then open in your version of Adobe Camera Raw.
Note that neither Bridge nor Photoshop can open raw files nor raw DNGs, only Adobe Camera Raw can.
