My PSE elements 7.0 on Vista shuts down before loading thumbnails.

I get the Windows error sign that then shuts the organizer down. The thumbnail spinner having stopped working.
I have repaired the catalog, optimized it and reindexed and repaired again.
I have deleted PSA and status.dat
I have deleted thumbnail cache
I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSE.
I have created anew catalogue
I have imported pictures to the new catalogue successfully.
The thumbnails were created. I worked on this catalogue for about one hour. Exited. When I reloaded PSE the same fault occurred immediately.
Windows picture viewer and Photo Gallery work fine with all my catalogue.
The fault module name is EZdH264DecTFilter.dll
What should I try next??

Thanks for the advice. I do suspect the problem is something to do with
video files. But turning of the Active File Monitor sadly has not  fixed the
problem.

So, you can't Install OSX to the external?
Or you can't boot from it when you do?
You're not the only one wondering... I'm reminded of the Goose that laid the Golden Egg story.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Shuts down after loading screen.

When I try to start up the computer it shuts down before I see the log-in screen. It stays on the loading screen for about a minute then shuts off. I tested the hardware, and it checked out fine.

The files are not backed up. I do have both install disk. Everything was running fine, but the day it started I was online a window popped up saying that my application memory was full and required me to force quite programs that weren't being used. I deleted some files, shut her down, and have not been able to log-in to my desktop sense.

  • Application shuts down before it has started

I have a problem with logic on my macbook. When I start it I get a warning sign that says that the application shut down unexpected ( I don't know exactly what the warning sign says in English since it's on Swedish on my compute ).
The things I've done so far is:
    * Repaired the disk and the disk authorities (once again, don't know if that's what it's called in English)
    * I used AppDelete to throw away Logic and then I installed it again, and I still get the same message, that it shuts down before it even opened.
Does anyone know what to do? Please help me!

There are special Apple Discussion forums for Logic Studio and Logic Pro 8. Are you referring to one of these?
Has it worked before or is this the first time you have tried using it?

If Jim's suggestion doesn't work, and Logic still crashes, copy and paste the crash log into a new message here.
If you don't know how, open "Console" in your utilities folder. Click the 'Logs' icon. You'll see an item under ~/Library/Logs named 'CrashReporter' and you'll find the "Logic Pro crash.log'
Find the beginning of the latest log (they're dated) and copy and paste the complete log for that date into your message. Sometimes (but not always) there's a clue in there about a bad plug-in, or a failed attempt to load a particular resource, which might help us suggest a solution.

I recently subscribed to iTunes Match.  iTunes is trying to match and upload songs not purchased from the iTunes store; however, it keeps shutting down before it finishes.

Turn off iTunes Match while holding down the Option key (Shift for Windows) then quit iTunes. Open it after a few seconds, and turn iTM back on.

  • Air shuts down before boot finishes

My MacBook was going really slow and I performed a forced shut down because it kept freezing. When I tried to start up again, it wouldn't boot past the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. I was told hold command, p, r and control while restarting could fix this so I tried. After that, the computer suddenly shut down shortly after getting to the boot screen.
Disk Utility won't work because it shuts down before it loads. Same for safe mode. It works in single-user mode and fsck returned the following:
    disk0s2: I/O error.

    Invalid B-tree node size

The Disk Warrior tech site isn't working right now. You might send them a message asking if you can create a bootable DVD from the WIndows machine. You may be able to, if the file they sent is in the right image format. See this page to access their support db or send them a note: http://www.alsoft.com/Support/techsupportform.html

  • Windows message on PSE 7 says the prgm is shutting down.  I have XP sp 3.

When I open PSE 7 and go to Organizer I get a Windows message saying an error reguires the program to shut down.  I have XP sp 3.  Elements was working ok until about a week ago.  I have been adding scanned images and some are indicated as too large and won't display.  They are jpegs.  I can continue to work in Organizer and ignore the message.  I have tried debugging and sending messages to Microsoft.  How can I resolve the message conflict with Windows?

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • HELP! I can't shut down (and loads more)

So, for quite some time now, my Macbook Pro (Late 2011) running Mavericks has been acting very strangely. I have run Sophos and found no viruses.
It will run fine for maybe an hour, then safari might hang or Mail might. Sometimes I will try and open Mail and it'll crash immediately with no way of opening it. Just now, when trying to open iPhoto, it displays the message "unable to write to iPhoto library, check you have the right permissions". Basically, something goes wrong and applications stop working correctly.
If I look at the log, nothing has been written to it for some time, like half an hour.
I am unable to open any system preferences.
If I try and shut down the computer, the dialog box with "restart, shutdown, cancel" comes up, but does nothing when any is pressed. The only way to shut down is hold down the power button for some time.
When the computer starts back up, it's as if it's in the state that was an hour or maybe a day since before it crashed. For example, there will be a big gap in the browsing history and tabs I had open some hours before but had since closed down will be open.
I have reset the PRam a million times. I have done a completely fresh install and used migration assistant to bring stuff across, but it still carries on.
It seems as if there is something process that happens that half crashes the computer that stops anything be written to preferences but allows me to limp on for a while.
I don't really understand all the things written in the log in console, so I could really do with some help working out what the **** is going on.
    Thanks in advance.

  • PowerBook shuts down before sleeping

I've tried to find similar post on the forum but none of the answers I found worked for my particular case... hence this post !!
I've just bought a brand new battery for my Power Book. This battery is not Apple branded.
The battery seems to work fine as I can use my PB for 3-4 hours without any particular issue.
I've got the low battery warning message but when the battery is nearly empty, my PB doesn't go to sleep and shut down directly.
I've already done twice the calibrating of my new battery, reset the PMU several times, rerun the latest battery updater, checked the power savings settings ...
None of the above seems to have a positive effect as the PB is still shuting down instead of going to sleep when battery is very low.
Does anyone have an idea of what I could do else ?
Is it possible that the issue comes from the battery itself and not the settings of the PB ?
Thanks for any answer that could help me.
    If anyone

Hi, brastoin. Was this one of the $40-60 counterfeit Apple-branded batteries one finds advertised in lots of places online? If so, I suspect the maker just left out some control circuitry to save money, hoping the buyer wouldn't notice or wouldn't mind. You don't always get what you pay for in a Powerbook battery, but if you pay little enough, you always get junk.
